Hubby and I arrived in town for a Depeche Mode show and were excited to find that a great DM cover band, Strangelove, was playing the night before at the Hard Rock Cafe. We found that online ticket sales had stopped, but we called to find that we could buy tickets in the retail area on the first floor, which was great because we avoided all the online fees. Since we arrived early, we went to the second level for a bit to eat and a couple drinks. The menu was basic, regular bar food. I was able to get a chicken bowl, which was pretty good. I had a spin-off on a cosmopolitan, which was ok, but nothing special. My husband had a pretty bad whiskey sour, which he sent back because it wasn't as described on the menu. Our server took it back and brought one that looked more like the way it had been described, but unfortunately it still was barely drinkable.
I thought our server was nice and very attentive. He was in training and I thought he was doing a great job. Of course, being at the Hard Rock Cafe, you are surrounded by a ton of music memorabilia. Our server did a great job getting us in and out quickly so that we would be ready for the show.
We went upstairs for the show, and I actually loved the venue! Party, because it wasn't sold out, it felt very spacious, despite the fact that it is a small venue. There was plenty of space to hang out at the bar or hit the floor in front of the DJ and the band. I liked the fact that there was a great view of the stage from the bar. Drinks were way better and cheaper than the restaurant.
I really loved that, even though it was a bit chilly, the terrace over the Strip was open. First, it allowed the concert venue to remain smoke-free, as the smokers went outside. Also, for us, it gave us a chance to check out the Strip view, and get some fresh air periodically.
I give the restaurant 3 stars, and the concert venue 5 stars, so I settled on 4 stars. I would definitely check out a show there again.
