Harder Day Coffee Company

Early on at this location they had 2 fairly cold barista's and management was not good. Things have definitely changed for the better recently. They have new shop manager and operations person that has focused on customer service. Coffee is great and most of the food is very tasty. I was not a fan of the bagels but the blueberry hand pie and croissants were outstanding. I know it's very early on at this location and I've seen improvements each week.

I went here today for the first time because I live in an apartment nearby. I’ve been to every café in Portland minus a slim few and am a connoisseur of coffee and service. Today I decided to give this Spot a try because I’m within walking distance. I went in today around 3:40 and was greeted by an employee who seemed to not be in a great mood, they not only were not very enthusiastic, but seemed to kind of have a bad attitude in multiple instances, even though I tried to chat and gently ask how they were and be friendly. It seemed as if they were having a harder day lol. I ordered 2 16 ounce orange cardamom lattes which were $8.50 each and the milk, the syrup, or the beans were burned, and this ruined the coffee, on top of this , the barista didn’t seem to be in the mood where they cared about presenting it and the coffee looked underwhelming considering the standard of expensive coffee In Portland. There was no visible foam on top, signaling the pour and mix was a little rushed or careless. I was pretty dissatisfied by the time that I left, there was no stamp or branding on the cup either. It seems that maybe this is a bad day or there’s just low effort here and the coffee is expensive with not really anything else to offer. I would like to come back, but there are plenty of better places to get coffee in the city with better service at a better price. To better days.

The people working here are really friendly and the shop is cute! I had an iced chai that wasn't good, though it could have just been my taste buds that day. I plan to go back and give them another go once they have their full menu up!

Ok - updated review - the charm is ebbing here at Harder Day - James was the only extrovert here and I haven’t seen him after my first visit. Staff is beyond disconnected and openly annoyed… it’s too bad because everything else is excellent. Not friendly - I’ve visited at least 6 times in last two weeks. I’ll be taking a break.

I live pretty close to this location and was really excited to have a proper coffee shop in walking distance to my apartment. I go here with my 9yo and toddler sometimes and my 9yo loves it (his review below). Their iced oat milk lattes are so good, I'm not like an extreme coffee snob just a tiny bit and they very clearly care about quality and have baristas who know what they're doing. They also have a good selection of pastries and sandwiches and even some vegan options. The staff are really nice too! :) This is my 9yos review he wrote himself: I think harder day coffee is a great coffee place, their staff are nice and I love their salted maple bun or something. I really like their oatmilk maple latte and the place that they are located is beautiful. Five out of five.

Oh me oh my. Where do I begin. Every morning I wake up & think about the first sip of an oat milk latte with just a whisper of orange cardamom syrup, specifically made by someone who can only be described as: a hunka-hunka-burnin-love, “Cata” the barista. Sweet young ambiguous fella (?) with the neck tattoo. This establishment is my North Star. The plants do need to be watered though ………

Super small inside. But they had outdoor seating and it's next to a food truck. I think it was a former gas station. Either way, same high quality harder Day Coffee branding.

I work in the neighborhood and have been waiting forever for a coffee shop to open here and this place does not disappoint! Coffee is delicious and if there are any, get the salted maple bun (vegetarian). James is the best! So kind, (and makes the best coffee, don't tell the others :p ). I love seeing how busy they are but it seems like it's too busy to have just one barista working...
