"The Runnin’ Rebels and jai alai-themed sports bar offers dishes such as the Hardway 8 burger with bacon, sunnyside egg, caramelized red onions, aged cheddar, and brandy mayo-ketchup as well as pappardella pasta with chicken, mushroom, and truffle cheese fondue or chargrilled meatloaf. Do try the fried bologna sandwich or Hendertucky hot chicken. "Back in 1977, the UNLV men’s basketball team was riding a high, taking coach Jerry Tarkanian’s Runnin’ Rebels into the NCAA Tournament only to lose by one point to North Carolina in the Final Four. The team, nicknamed the Hardway Eight, may not have been national champions, but they turned Las Vegas into a sports town. Now Henderson has its own ode to the team with Hardway 8, a bar and restaurant from Bryant Jane and Lyle Cervenka, the co-owners of Starboard Tack. Consulting chef Johnny Church, formerly at the Golden Gaming and Aureole, to name a few, created the menu that includes a corned buffalo Reuben, porchetta sandwich, grilled vegetable panini, and a hero with prosciutto, mortadella, and hot copa. Buffalo fried oysters, a charcuterie board, and deep-fried mozzarella make the starters menu, while fish and chips, rabbit sausage bangers and mash, pappardelle pasta, 24-hour braised porchetta, and Tenaya Creek Bonanza Brown beer can chicken make the entrees." - Susan Stapleton
"A year of big changes to Henderson’s Water Street includes the highly anticipated arrival of an upscale bar that pays tribute to local sporting heroes. Revealed back in April of last year, Hardway 8 is now well underway to be up and running by this spring, featuring an interior overseen by downtown Las Vegas’s RADstudio. Filling a substantial 5,500 square feet, the designers have shared the “shelves will display various trophies, and bar top will be made from reclaimed hardwood from UNLV Rebels basketball court.” Inspired by the 1976-’77 UNLV Runnin’ Rebels basketball team, the first Rebel team to make the NCAA Tournament’s Final Four, the concept replaces the long vacant JJ’s Bar, a short distance from the big changes upgrading the Gold Mine Tavern and the huge plans for the neighboring strip that extends to the Henderson Town House Motor Lodge across the street. Described by the logo designer as a sports bar that “could feel classy without looking like your typical classy sportsbar,” Hardway 8 has already added a floor-to-ceiling glass windowed garage door. Fronted by local developer Addison Thom, last year’s initial plans called for upgrades to the existing kitchen and installing bar-top gaming." - Bradley Martin
