We recently hosted our **Build Your Own Spirit Doll Workshop** at Hardywood Richmond and it could not have been a better experience! From start to finish, the communication with Paige and Tyler was excellent—clear, timely, and so supportive both before and after the event. The bartenders were absolutely amazin as well—friendly, attentive, and made everyone feel at home while keeping the energy high. The space itself was the perfect blend of cozy and lively, giving our participants room to create, laugh, and connect. Our community loved it, and we left feeling grateful for the hospitality and professionalism of the whole Hardywood team. Highly recommend Hardywood Richmond not only for their great beer 🍻 but also as a welcoming venue for unique events like ours. I ADORED my experience booking a reservation/event with Hardywood Richmond, from start to finish. Shannon is so so lovely to work with, very responsive, friendly, and customer service focused! The day of was fantastic! Everything was set up great and our bartender was excellent! We all loved sharing that space and it was perfect for what we were hoping for. Thank you Hardywood for making my husbands surprise party a huge success! You all are AMAZING!!

We hosted a welcome party the night before our wedding for 130 of our guests. The barrel room was a perfect venue for a group this size. The event team at Hardywood was responsive and easy to work with. They have good options for food and the dedicated bar makes the event really feel separate from the rest of the brewery. They also made it easy for us to set up a projector for a slideshow. We highly recommend this venue for events of 100+ people in Richmond!

Been a fan of hardywood stouts for years now...I will say that this year's hardywood holiday pack has really stepped it up! The Caliente GBS is now my gf and I's new favorite beer! So many layers to this incredible stout aged 12 months in bourbon barrels! The sweet and decadent flavors up front, and the heat on the back end from the spicy peppers, honey and cinnamon is just a perfect balance of sweet and heat!! I wish they would make this a year round beer! We would be lifetime customers!

We stopped in while on a trip between Delaware and North Carolina. We stopped in because I had heard the Gingerbread Stout was awesome. We were not disappointed. The brewery has great indoor and outdoor space. There are a couple of fire pits outside for could weather. There is a pizza place inside. The pizza is very good if a bit pricey. I had the bourbon barrel, and coffee variants of the GBS. Both were excellent! We will certainly return!

This was a cool experience. My family sat outside, all 7 of us, and listened to live music that was fun and interactive. They have QR Codes at the tables where you can order food and drinks. You do have to go get them yourself inside, and the drink area and food area are separate word to the wise. We didn't get the text alerts that they were ready and had to guess so that process could use some improvement. The pizza was good and I got the pimento cheese tray to share and it was AMAZING. I was honestly not expecting it to be as good as it was. The pickles, red onion, olives, everything was awesome. The strawberry buzz cocktails were also very good. The seating areas could use some umbrellas or shade of some kind, when it got sunny it was a bit uncomfortable.

Really large space with lots of nice places to sit with a delicious beer. We stopped in for.the holiday varieties and weren't disappointed! The beers were excellent and the service was superb. The restrooms were clean. There were lovely fire pits and outdoor spaces as well as a few nice, large rooms to sit inside. There was love entertainment on a Saturday afternoon! Can't recommend it enough. Be careful with parking though- it's kinda tricky.

I am currently not drinking, but I tried their lavender lemonade. It is the best lemonade I have ever had! I think I enjoyed it more than I would have enjoyed a beer, anyway!

Hardywood is a great place to hang out. After checking into a nearby Airbnb, we drove to Hardywood. There's a spacious outdoor area with fire pits when it's cold outside. Inside are several rooms with tables. On a Friday in January, they had live music. There are many beers to pick from, a dry cider, and a few cocktails. They don't have any sour ales. There's a good menu. The pizza wasn't great, but surprisingly the gluten free pizza outshined the regular ones. What was amazing was the pimento cheese and pickle platter.

This brewery has a great outdoor seating area with fire pits. The beer selection is not great. Tasted a few beers and settled on one I didn't love. Maybe it was just timing, but I don't recommend.

Always a hit on a Friday or Saturday night. This hardywood location is more urban with an excellent pizza kitchen that uses seasonally sourced ingredients. They have most hardywood brews on tap as well as wine and mixed drinks. I used to like it more when they had a more extensive tap list for beer instead of serving some in cans but the ambiance and service doesn't disappoint. I wish the other location would have more food.

Great music, great pizza, great drink, cool atmosphere, friendly staff, all the boxes!

Adding onto my previous review - the pizza is a perfect add-on. Pepperoni is perfectly charred around the edges for that perfect crunch. Surprisingly delicious for a spot that doesn't really specialize or diversify itself in food!

Went to hardywood this weekend for the bluegrass festival and it was such a good time! So much fun that I forgot to take pictures! It's the perfect venue in the city for an event like that. The green space with fire pits is lovely, and they have the perfect place for food trucks when they clear the parking lot! It was very crowded but that didn't affect wait times! We got our food and drink very promptly. I'm not a beer person, so it was nice to see that as a brewery they had a few options. The pizza was also good and everything was reasonably priced for being in the city!

Hardywood's gingerbread stouts are my favorite beers of the holiday season. This year's Kentucky Christmas Morning was my favorite variation of GBS. Nice location with nice outdoor seating with fire pits. Pizza is available and delicious. Beer and food can be ordered online to pick up at the counter. Service was efficient.

Hardywood has become a Richmond institution and I hope it's here for many years to come. Although it is of course a brewery, I think of it more as a fantastic event venue that also has beer. One of the main reasons I keep coming back is for the monthly drag bingo, which is super fun and free to play! They also host both private and community events from weddings and corporate happy hours to stand up comedy, craft markets, and workshops. The staff is always pleasant and it seems like every time I'm there they have some new and interesting beers to try. Not a beer fan? That's fine too. They've expanded their drink menu to include cocktails, wine, cider, and non-alcoholic options, so there's really something for everyone. Besides the huge indoor taproom that hosts events, I also love Hardywood's patio. It's an expansive outdoor space with fire pits, lots of seating, a small stage for live music, and access to a bar without needing to go inside the building. It's dog and family friendly, so you can bring the whole gang. The only slight drawbacks are the availability of parking and the consistency of the food quality. They have a very small parking lot that isn't even big enough for employees, and everything else is street parking. As more businesses and new condos pop up in the area it's gotten increasingly busy. The food is also hit or miss. Sometimes the pizza is good, but several times I've spent $15 and it just ends up in the trash. At least you can bring in your own food, which I definitely recommend doing.

Great fall aesthetics and ambience for a brewery day! There's many options, and to go cans, as well as plenty of snacks and non-alcoholic options too! It's got it all, trail for active hikers and bikers. Drinks of course! Field for dogs and kids! Definitely bring a frisbee or ball! There was so much seating, indoor, outdoors, under tents, in a gazebo, hammocks, it was a great space!

I went here with some friends on a Tuesday evening for trivia and had a great time. The weather was perfect, so we sat outside in a very spacious area. There was a bar where you could order drinks and food. I really like their beer, and their pizzas are yummy. The food came out pretty quickly, which was nice. We had so much fun that we'll definitely be back.

We found Hardywood after doing the Richmond Marathon and trying their gingerbread beer at the finish. They were offering a discount if you wear your race medal to their brewery locations so we figured we'd check it out! Location was interesting, it's right near an industrialish park and some luxury apartments, there wasn't a whole lot of parking available in their lot but we were able to find some on a back street. I think some of their inside area was closed off for an event but thankfully it was nice enough outside to sit on the patio. Lots of spots to sit outside! The beer we tried there was also good, tried a pumpkin beer, a gingerbread one that was slightly different and I think the blonde ale. Can't say enough about that pizza though! Super tasty, I couldn't eat it fast enough!! This is a very "family friendly" place, as breweries have become more and more so in recent years! So if you don't like drinking around children that would do well with a playground, maybe plan your visit while kids are normally in school or asleep lol!

Hardywood is fantastic! the staff is great about helping you pick out what you would enjoy! They have a variety of beer options and even have IPA. They have really cool events happening all the time and it looks like you can rent out sections for birthday parties or work events from what I could tell. My friends and I have gone to EMO Night and trivia night! If you are hungry that have made at hardywood oven cooked pizza and they have Nondairy cheese for pizza's and it's DELICIOUS! highly recommend The outside seating is fantastic and on cold nights they have fire pits. it's well worth the drive downtown they also have a hardywood west creek location!

Hardywood has always been a favorite spot to hit up of mine, even now as a "visitor" vs a resident. This location has changed a lot from when I last lived in the area a few short 4 years ago. They've revamped their space and I'll have to say, huge kudos to them. From a parking standpoint they have more spaces than ever (you may likely still need to parallel street park, it's maybe 20 spots?), an upgrade nonetheless. They have a pizza kitchen with standard and gluten free options. They smelled and looked solid but I didn't partake on this visit. Their new space also has a massive set of indoor and outdoor dedicated seating. Huge win for them as I remember what they started with. In terms of beer offerings because why else visit a brewery aside from chill vibe and atmosphere, good food, ample seating and a solid staff: - Hardywood itself offers a broad range of tasty styles. They have several Belgian styles which fit with the theme of the more established "seasoned" rva breweries, a series of stouts they generally drop for Christmas and late winter, and a host of other traditional and hype styles such as lagers and ipas. On this particular occasion I did a series of small pours starting with the one that started it all for me: -the Singel - Blonde Ale. Crisp, refreshing, with almost a hint of banana, it gets the job done every time. -second I did the Tropication - hazy ipa. Crisp and floral with a bit of citrus. -sheepshot - stout conditioned on coffee, caramel, and vanilla. Big caramel nose, pretty standard in flavor for a non barrel aged/low Abv stout with coffee standing out. -Bourbon Cru - Belgian Quad. Big rich flavor and smooth as pie. These styles are where hardywood shine. I'd have this over and over again. Also tried: -Cuvée Peach - fits with my review of Bourbon Cru. Another example of where they shine, delicious, smooth, and peachy. Always a solid place for a chill time and great all around beer in rVa

Great local beer. There are options for everyone!! Even those who don't drink beer- they have wine!! Recently tried their pizzas and they are a great addition to the Hardywood experience!

This is a nice brewery to come to once in a while. We've been a couple for the bluegrass and it's always absolutely packed... would not recommend going during a time when it's super busy. They have a stout- porter heavy beer menu and the IPAs aren't super hazy. They don't have sours on draft but they do have a cider and a lot of non-alcoholic options. They also have a pizza place inside which is nice. We went the other day when there was a little market and band and had a great time. There's quite a lot of lot of kids here too at any given time. Solid brewery to visit once and awhile!

Was here for a special event and overall this place is nice but we didn't particularly like any of the beers/sangria we tried. It is a nice venue with fire pits and seating outdoors and has a nice indoor space too. The pizza from the kitchen was pretty good too! If they rotate their beers/wine to different ones we will come back and try it again.

Hardywood Brewing... another craft beer drinking experience occurred with this brewery! Steve and I had two different kinds of beers from this brewery. The first one was the Fightin' Hokies Helles Lager. This was not a bad Helles Lager but alas I have had ones that were a bit more memorable. It still had that clean, crisp flavor profile that I do appreciate when delving into this lager. Maw Maw's Peach Cobbler was the other Hardywood beer we had. Fruited beers I feel are hit and miss for me as they can be just too sweet and heavy but this was one of the better ones and was pretty enjoyable to share with Steve.

The place is quite delightful I have been there twice recently once on a rainy night and we got to sit in the brew room that was nice and on a beautiful night last night. The outside area is the chanting with lots of chairs and his kid and dog friendly. We actually felt a little out of place because we had neither. I have tried their pizzas twice now and they do have gluten-free pizza and vegan but I have not tried those. I've enjoyed the pizza very much. Since it is fall they are in pumpkin season and I think they have three different kinds of pumpkin beer!

Love the atmosphere outside! They added fire pits and bistro lights outside with more seating. They also now have homemade pizza. I appreciate that they have several bars. Servers are always kind and fast. There are several different areas to hangout in so it doesn't feel overwhelming. Tonight we had a company holiday party in their spacious back room. Plus they value the fact that LOVE IS LOVE. Always a nice time at Hardywood.

Love this place Great outdoor area with fire pits and live music. Feels like an escape from the city, but right in the middle of the city.

We enjoyed having beer and pizza here. Hardywood is a nice spot to chill and drink beer. All of our beer selections were great. We tried the bourbon barrel cru, rum barrel pumpkin, singel and bourbon barrel barleywine. The barrel beers have higher abv percentages with great taste. Live music outdoors, trivia nights and beer to go. The adjacent parking lot had very limited spaces. We had to find parking down the street. If you're a fan of beer you should definitely try Hardywood at least once.

I came here yesterday for a Meetup event and enjoyed it. The outdoor area was bustling and the live music was great. The two beers I had here were pretty solid. There were a decent amount of kids here which turned me off as I'm not a fan of kids. The street parking was also a challenge. Overall, it was a good experience.

One of my favorite brewery scenes - great outdoor and indoor space and a huge variety of drink options. The Margherita pizza was phenomenal and fresh and I loved the cider and red wine. A great space to spend the evening. The cocktail tasted like an envelope though; I'd stick with the beers/ ciders.

The beer was absolutely DELICIOUS! We had the barrel in a bottle. Absolutely delicious! Also did a flight. The blackberry and the peach were my favorite from the flight. Definitely need to go!!!!!!!!

We went to the larger Hardywood "campus." I've been calling it a campus because this place is HUGE! Lots of seating inside and out. It looks like you could also hold a private event. There were a bunch of beer options on their menu, and it looked like they also served wine. There were two food trucks when we got there, one left right after we sat, but the other was yummy. There were also a TON of kids, of all ages. I'm not a huge fan of kids at breweries, but Hardywood had a section that was 21+ which was really nice. I haven't noticed that anywhere else has something similar. There was also live music. Overall, it was a wonderful and relaxing experience!

Hardywood is a great place to come if you want good drinks and food. The environment here is very laid back and almost has a homey feeling to it. Their cider here is amazing! Everyone ordered pizzas in my group and we all loved them! Can't wait to come back the next time I'm in VA

This place was so disappointing and overpriced and on top of that the beer is terrible. We are from out of town and were treated with such disrespect. We understand the brewery game and coming from a huge brewery town in Cali and we all have worked in the industry for years we all know what it's like to be "drunk" beyond the point of serving. Coming from the strictest state and excited to try this place our friend got turned away even though she was totally fine and because of her soft accent, the guy interpreted it as being slurring and her being trashed. We all knew this wasn't true and kindly went down to Main Line where she was served without issues. Therefore, they lost a big group of fellow beer drinkers and we will not be coming again. Way better breweries in Richmond. Stay away

This isn't my first time at Hardywood but my first review. I was coming here before the upgrades and before their in house pizza. Last time I was here was June of 2018 before I moved to Northern Virginia. The new space is very cozy and a must chill spot on a cool spring/summer night. The beer has always been fantastic and STILL great. Although this was my first time trying the blackberry cobbler. I went for it because for those who know about their peach cobbler beer knows anything cobble related here is pure. Or anything peach as well. As you see in the pictures. This was my first time getting the pizza. It was pretty good for brewery pizza. Don't expect biting into a piece of Italy but this pizza is at least better than some actual pizza restaurants. Bottom line if you are in the Richmond or passing through this is a must stop to quench your beer thirst.

The bathrooms are out of order and the Wi-Fi is unreliable. I enjoy the beer, but feel it is overpriced.

I do love me some Hardywood. This place is always a win. We went here and there was a live band playing and the atmosphere was just awesome. You can definitely tell this place has taken off as they have put a lot of time and investment into the area. I feel like may had a one-off experience but tbh, my service sucked. The staff practically ignored me when I was in line and when I was helped, it was so brash. It was like I was in their way for getting things done (which is possible). I would rate it lower but I'd like to think that maybe my tender was just just having a bad day or struggling. Although the most important part - the beer! Do I really need to put anything here? It's always on point. I came for the beer, left with an experience and a good night with my wife. It's all good. But I know for sure I'll be back as you can't ask for a better experience within the immediate area. I love Hardywood! We've been coming here for several years and I didn't realize I had never reviewed them before! Always a solid beer list, plenty of releases and I love the space! Lots of room to find seating, indoors and outdoors. Friendly service is always provided here as well. We go for events like the Shamrock Run and even Juneteenth. I will always support this spot. We have not tried the pizza here, usually just go to hang out and have a few beers. My favorite is their staple, The Great Return. Anyway, highly recommend this brewery! Catch some live music and have a tasty beer.

We stopped here during our trip because we've seen the brand in Costco. It has a cool atmosphere, but the drinks were very normal. Nothing different to stand out. Fast service though!

if I want warm beer I will fly to London When asked about it they said nothing I can do about it

Hardywood was always my favorite brewery hangout spot when I lived in Richmond, and I recently returned for my first time since moving a few years ago. WOW. What an awesome upgrade to the outdoor space. The addition of outdoor stage, sitting area, and firepits was an awesome and needed upgrade to the previously bare bones parking lot, without ruining the no-frills charm I always loved about the spot.

Huge spot, lots going on! Great views of the mountains and landscape, you can go inside or outside. Beer is tasty, if you like it a lot you can but any number of cans or merchandise inside to go. We didn't get any food but they were setting up an outdoor grill as we were leaving. Looks like a lot of private events are held here too. Recommend snagging a few Adirondack chairs and relaxing.

My sister and I tried the custom white pizza with mushrooms. It was magnificent! My tastebuds were dancing! The pizza came with a white wine sauce instead of a red sauce, with roasted garlic and ricotta cheese. The mushrooms were fresh, sauteed mushrooms, not canned, woodsy and aromatic. The crust was thin but chewy -- like a New York-style pizza crust but thinner. I can't recommend the custom white pizza enough! Magnifico!

Damn good beer and scenery! Had a bourbon barrel raspberry vanilla stout that was perfect for a winter day. Sat around a fire pit and had some snacks over good conversation. 100% will return when I'm back in town!

Hardywood was a must visit for us during our trip to Richmond and it was a fun time. During COVID-19 you can only sit outside so order a beer and find a table (there was a good amount of seating available). Beer options are available in cans or on draft. I tried the distorted perception and perfect perception, my fav was the distorted. The gingerbread stout is what they are known for but it was early for the release when we visited so I'll try to snag a bottle from a local bottle shop. If you are in the area check this spot out, cheers!

Great outdoor space. Lots of seating with umbrellas for shade. They also have fire pits for the evening. Their beers on tap are great highly recommend

This brewery is way off the beaten path but located in a beautiful woody cove. Inside was huge and open with a stage for music. Plenty of seating both inside and out and they had a party tent set up as well. There was a bbq food truck there which I wish we knew about beforehand! Bartender was not overly friendly but tried the Pilsner and hazy ipa. Both were good but I didn't notice any significant difference from other iPas on the market. They had patio tents set up along the tree line that looked like they could be reserved for private use. We also saw hammocks, and a fire pit outside. Views were pretty and relaxing.

Stopped in on a Friday evening for a beer. The location is easy to find and is a fairly large venue. There is parking on the street and in a few lots. There is interior and exterior seating along with a place inside for live music and a room for reserved events. They also had a Mexican food truck there that evening. The service is quick and friendly. I wish that they had the Richmond lager on tap, but they have it in bottles and cans.. so we went that route. This place is also do friendly. I think I prefer this location to the one in the west end, but both are very nice locations and very well maintained! No doubt, there will be more stops in the future here

"Dog Friendly!" I have been to Hardywood several times over the past few years. Usually, I have gone for special events that have been hosted there. This last time, I decided to go on a random Wednesday for an impromptu outing with a friend in a place where we could bring our dogs. I absolutely love how "dog friendly" the extremely large outdoor patio area is. We were able to walk up to the indoor/outdoor bar with dogs in tow to order our flights. Not many breweries in RVA offer this convenience. The best part is there is a community dog bowl where you can make sure your dog has access to water. I brought my own dish for her and was able to fill it up with the easily accessible water hose. The final highlight of my "dog friendly" experience was when one of the staff members came out to offer a couple of treats to our fur babies before we left. I will definitely be back to enjoy a flight or two with my dog in tow.

I'm a huge Hardywood fan, so I jumped at the opportunity to visit their brewery. I tend to like their Virginia Roots series (Farmhouse Pumpkin, Gingerbread Stout, etc.), and was excited to see what else they had. I did a flight and a can while I was there. It was a very peach heavy flight, and my favorite was the Mamaw's Mean Cobbler. The place is huge, with two buildings and an outdoor area. It was super hot inside, but it was slightly better than outside--however, I would not visit during the summer again. I loved the Nightingale ice cream sandwiches, and appreciated Smokie Joe's BBQ truck being on premises, because after drinking Hardywood, you are going to need some food. Staff was super friendly and this is a really chill spot. It's definitely my favorite of the Richmond breweries. If I ever return to the city, I'll visit Hardywood.

Great outdoor space. Beer is good and service was great. Just liked the atmosphere and being outside. Glad I went. Must visit if you like their beers. Food was amazeballs too. While expensive it was worth it! Got the prosciutto pizza. So good!

4/5, August 2021. We stopped here during a visit to Richmond. It's actually quite a large campus that offers on site food in addition to the obvious beer. They have a good amount of indoor seating and a ton of outdoor seating. I'm not going to go that much into the beer as they are widely available and range from decent to excellent. Given the size of the place and number people it can accommodate the parking seems to be fairly limited. There are places to street park but watch out for all the construction exits. It's a little off the beaten path but worth checking out.

This place is a joke. We paid $15 for what amounts to a personal pizza that was cold and dry, but greasy. I'm not sure how they pulled that one off. The Richmond Lager with Lime completely lacked flavor. They do not offer anything to drink for your DD, so be prepared for that. A woman literally laid her infant, dressed only in a onesie, on the bar and stuck a bottle in his face while she drank a beer with her friend. Seriously!? A table of 8 adults sat drinking and talking while a 4 yr old little girl that apparently belonged to them played alone at the next table. So who drove that child home? Do NOT try to go there for any events, ESPECIALLY RVA Rock and Wrestling. (That will be a separate review.) The booker, Timmy Danger, screamed like an angry teenage girl into the face of the sound guy that offered to work that night for free. Maybe he's just angry that he will never be anything more than a third-rate, backyard mat jockey who deserves nothing more than a botched pedigree. Anyone who treats people that way, and any business that allows people to behave in such a way does not deserve anyone's patronage. Don't spend a dime here. The food and beer are gross, but the behavior of the people they allow inside is far more disgusting.

Can I just saw WOW?! I haven't been to Hardywood in years, so this was my first time experiencing their fully renovated outdoor space - and they did such a great job! In addition to the changes outside, they've added food to their menu - pizza and other appetizers. Service was very quick and friendly. Beer was refreshing, the pizza was good, and it was a beautiful day. What more can I ask for?
