Google
Very disappointed. With inflation causing prices to go up people are skeptical to eat out and spend money. Im disappointed because I just spent almost $50 for 30 wings and the quality of the wings look horrible. I have never seen chicken look this bad before. Wings are dark and black as if they were over cooked. They taste as if they were cooked in old grease. People barely have enough money to eat out now days so you at least expect to get quality good food when you do. This place is not it! Not to mention charging extra for all condiments. Mild sauce and lemon pepper season I had to pay extra for. I am so upset I paid that much money and the chicken was disgusting. How they are comfortable serving that I have no idea. I wouldn't recommend this place on my worse enemy and would not be coming back!

Google
They are very skimpy on the sauce and the fries were old and hard. This place was not like this 6 months ago. You try and rock with your people by supporting black business. Hopefully this Harold’s get the service back up to quality standards.

Today is 6-21-24, at family house and was hungry. It’s 7:30 am and there is a Harold’s chicken at the end of the block, and they open at 10am. I read the reviews and they were terrible, but it’s early in the morning, so I figured I had nothing to worry about since . WRONG ANSWER!! The four chicken wings were hard, could tell they had not been cook fresh, just refried. And the same For my giblets I thought those had to be cooked fresh But to make matters worse the Grubhub driver went all the way to Jeffery Street, did i mention the restaurant was at the end of the block. I was angry I didn’t run down in this 90 degree heat. I questioned drivers about getting lost, she stated she didn’t. I guess she took the scenic Route. Trust Reviews

Google
WTH!!!! If I could give a negative star I would. This chicken is not edible. The wings are old, refried, dried out, and over cooked. The wings are TINY!!!!! The wings are the size of the fork (see pic). I came back home to visit family and Harold’s Chicken was on my list of Chicago foods to eat. This is my first and LAST time buying from this location. Pissed off does not come close to describing how I feel. This place should be shut down for serving food like this.

Google
This restaurant's service falls short of professional standards. It's simply unacceptable for a customer to wait nearly an hour after placing an order an hour in advance.

Google
June 9th 8:20 pm, the cashier only had one job; which was to pay attention to what she was doing, and couldn’t even do that.. and was unapologetic about her mess up but of course that was expected smh

Google
I just left. I ordered a small gizzard well done and a ten wing special. I only got six wings. I should have checked before I left. Got home and was real mad. I asked for mild sauce they gave me got hot sauce. My 6 year old couldn't even eat one. I want to back there again. They put more sauce on the fries than my chicken. Now they want answer the fone. I'm calling. Pick up. !!

Google
I ordered some food from here through door dash! When I received my food all I could smell was burnt grease I tasted a small piece of the chicken and gizzard and horrible!!! That grease they are cooking is burnt and needs to be changed!!! And the food was super greasy like they had it sitting in the grease!!!! WHAT A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!

Cherrice R.

Yelp
Food was hard and nasty VERY DISAPPOINTING. I wish I could get a full refund because as much as fast food cost food should never be sold like this

Krystal W.

Yelp
Asked and paid for extra mild sauce and came home to a little on my food. This will be the last time I go there.

Yelp
I've been to most of the Harold's Chicken shacks but never been charged for the sauce really! The Harold's just east of 87th & Stony Island charge for sauce! Nope won't be back period!

Nneka D.

Yelp
I asked for extra mild sauce which I got an abundance poured on my fries. The damn chicken under fries was dry not a drop of sauce. What I can't understand is why common sense doesn't say hmmmm, maybe we should put some sauce on the chicken too. The wings is dead and dry. Super angry. I want to drive back but I'm to tired. This is not the first time. I mean it's super dumb. I need the mild sauce!

Yelp
Best chicken wings ever. Have to have the mild sauce and crispy. Nothing fancy just good

Yelp
Don't know what they did to improve the service and the food, but keep it up. Went back a few times and ordered and received my food in ten to fifteen minutes! Wowzers!! It's always hot and seasoned to please em'. It's my go to because it's closer than the one on 107th and Halsted. That one is the bomb- diggity! You're catching up and the improvements are great keep it up. Just a little note, more sauce on the chicken please.

Carolyn M.

Yelp
I literally just purchased two 6 piece wing dinners. I asked for hot sauce and ketchup. 15 mins later and $25 I'm on the expressway with my food smelling good so I take a fiy and it's mild sauce! I DONT LIKE MILD SAUCE. I live in Oak Park and I'm on the eway already. I Call them and the lady says you can come back or you have 7 days to bring it back. You just have to bring the chicken back. Ma'am gas is expensive, you close in 15 mins andso you're rude self who messed up my order has the nerve NOT to apologize and just bark those directives annoyed me!

Yelp
This is UNACCEPTABLE!!!!! For you to STAPLE a ticket to my food basket is unsatisfactory and UNSANITARY! Now I would be wrong to report your location to the Health Department but I should because your location purposely mishandled my food with disorderly behavior. To the owner of this location: You need QUALITY help in your establishment because no way is this supposed to be sold. The grease is OLD AS HELL in order for my food to look like this or you purposely sold me BURNT food. Your employees need to do BETTER! (I couldn't post my review without a star but this location is POOR AND LACKING! I would never give them a star rating) #nostars

Yelp
Food wasn't good at all. It didn't taste like the original Harold's. The service was very quick.

Yelp
I was very disappointed with the food I received. I ordered a catfish and wing dinner. When I checked my receipt I saw I was charged a service charge. The cashier couldn't explain why. No cold slaw and 1 piece of bread. Also there is a charge for anything extra on your order. The chicken wings where really small and the catfish didn't even taste like catfish. The fries were horrible is well. Good luck new owners but I will never go back to this location.

Claudette G.

Yelp
This is by far the worst Harold's Chicken on this earth. The chicken was old, dried up and discolored. They tried to camouflage the staleness with their sauce. The fries were undercooked. They need to go out of business if they can't serve food to the general public that they themselves would eat. But that's okay there are many options up and down east 87th Street. Then they wonder why black folks don't support black businesses because they sell you garbage at a high price at that. I WILL NEVER EAT YOUR FOOD AGAIN!!!!

Nathan S.

Yelp
The food wasn't cooked the way I asked and when they delivered it they threw it on the porch and didn't ring the bell to say that it was there really disappointing and I order from there always when I come to town.

Yelp
I love that there is a Harold's east of Stoney Island again. The owner used to manage the Harold's that use to be east on 79th street. The chicken is legit, tasty, let's you know this is a "real" Harold's, because let's face it, they are not all created equal. Another plus is they get you in and out. I have never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes here.

Yelp
I'm just ordering from HAROLDS 1700 E 87th. This has to be the most discussing HAROLDS in Chicago. They don't take full menu items orders over the phone. You cannot order gizzards, liver and nuggets on the phone. They now charge for sauce on your chicken. .55 for mild and .40 for hot! !??!!The sauce on the chicken is what Harold's is known for!!!! Poor business in our community! Some Businessperson Please open a Harolds east of Stony Island! This one has to go!

Angela H.

Yelp
My goodness! This chicken is fire! I had to stop myself from eating it right away to take a picture! Fresh and hot, crispy chicken wings and fries plus I got an extra coleslaw. The best Harold's Chicken around, let's argue!!! I just left and I had to write this review expeditiously!

Yelp
You basically have to go at night because the young girl that works durning the day has a horrible attitude and poor customer service. First time I asked for my 10 wings to be separated because she's not putting sauce on all of the wings, her response was 'if they let me' the proceeded to just give me 10 dry wings with sauce only on the fries on top. Today I have her $8 for a $7.16 bill and she just refused to give me my change while yelling at me Disgusting customer service, she's more concerned with her phone and nails than doing her damn job right
google avatar

Teisha L.

Yelp
This Harolds has the best chicken!!! It's never dry, always fresh. The staff is very friendly. Their mild sauce even taste better than other Harolds!!!!

Yelp
Terrible customer service, with employees arguing with each other, and customers. Cashier/Girls On phone. Owner is rude, unappreciative and an asshole. I saw him refuse to give a customer at his 79th Cottage location a piece of wax paper to divide fish from chicken for wife that had allergy.

Yelp
An Insult To Our Community On January 22nd of 2020, shortly after this Harold's opened at 1711 E 87th Street, I took an elderly neighbor there because she wanted to try it. The restaurant was not crowded, my neighbor ordered 2 quarter dark specials and we began to wait. Several people entered the restaurant and formed a line to order. Each ordered chicken wing specials in various quantities. These were not "pick ups" but new orders. My neighbor and I were shocked as each person who came in after us received their orders before us and left the restaurant. After sitting several more minutes unattended in a now empty restaurant the woman behind the glass who took our order, seeing our distress, politely apologized for the long wait. The disarming sincerity of her apology lightened the mood as both my neighbor and I had become agitated by the wait. In a now decidedly lighter mood I jokingly.said, "Yeah we couldn't figure out what was taking so long. We thought you had to raise the chicken from eggs to make our meal!" As I was saying this an unidentified man came to the order taking area from the kitchen in the back and, in an apparently bad mood, joined a conversation to which he wasn't a participant by saying, "well if you knew how hard we're working in the kitchen you wouldn't say that". It is quite frankly none of my concern how hard their kitchen works, as paying customers, we were presented with a mystery.,..how does it take so long to get 2 quarter dark specials when we were the first in a long line of people to order? I was so insulted by this man's flippant attitude and abysmal customer service skills that I asked the man his name thinking that I would report my experience to the owner who would certainly want to correct it. "My name is Melvin Wright and I AM the owner" was his response. He went on to volunteer that he owns another Harold's at 808 79th Street". Infuriated by the exchange, I assured him that I wouldn't patronize either establishment again. Months pass and true to my word whenever the mood hit me for some Harold's Chicken I would go out of my way to avoid these two Melvin Wright owned locations for Chicken Shacks father away. Then COVID-19 struck and many restaurants reduced hours or closed outright and the mood hit for Harold's and my best option on Grubhub was the same Melvin Wright owned dump at 1711 E 87th Street where I'd been offended many months before. My heart had softened so I.figured I'd give him another shot. At lunchtime around 12:30 I ordered a 10 piece wing special and a large Chicken Gizzard dinner. Grubhub gave me the estimated arrival time and I waited moments before the expected arrival Grubhub sent me a text saying that my order was delayed. About 15 minutes later they sent a text saying that the restaurant had cancelled my order and that a refund would be made. I was disturbed but figured that they chose not to complete the order because they'd run out of gizzards. Later that evening around 7:45, still craving Harold's, I used Grubhub to order from the same restaurant at 1711 E 87th Street again but this time I ordered something I was sure they'd have plenty of...I ordered a 30 piece chicken wing special. Estimated delivery was given and just as earlier I received a message that my order would be delayed followed 15 minutes later with a cancellation and refund offer. I can't recommend that anyone patronize the Harold's Chicken Shack at 1711 E 87th Street. It is incompetently run and yet another example, as if we needed more, of how some locally owned business suffer from the tyranny of low expectations. We get what we demand and since we never demand better what we end up with is a place like laughable excuse for a restaurant at 1711 E 87th Street.

Yelp
I WILLLL NOT BE RETURNING l!!!Every time I come here the young lady at the front is always on the phone. Today I go she tells me to hold on so she can tell whoever she was talking to to hold on. But the icing on the cake was when she set in the chair and started rubbing her feet. The guy cooking walked up with my food and got ready to hand it to her and I said STOP! I don't want her touching my food can you put my sauce on. She got an attitude and said huh go fix her stuff. I said no disrespect young lady you just finished rubbing your feet! She responded " I knew my hands was dirty I was going to put on gloves". First off ,you wasn't because you wouldn't had reached for it and secondly, it doesn't matter if you was or wasn't who Wants you touching your food after rubbing on some dirty ass socks!!!!!

DeQuence G.

Yelp
I am never able to call in my order, every time the phone just rings and rings it's very upsetting.

Daniel J.

Yelp
This place has nothing posted. I went in one day the 1/4 dark was $7.04, the next week my total was $7.24, now this week it's $7.44. Same order increased prices. And you can't get two thighs instead of a leg and thigh. Never again. Just trying to support black business. P.s terrible customer service. 0

Yelp
This Harold's Chicken has the WORST livers that I have ever had. I asked to have them fried soft and they were dry even with the sauce and I attempted to place an order for some gizzards over the phone and they said, they could only take my order in the store. I will never order livers or gizzards from this location again. Nonetheless, they have good wings.

Patricia C.

Yelp
Terrible service & Food. Asked for ketchup, and mild sauce Charged for sauce & none placed on Livers 7.30.2020. Owner nasty when called to complain.

Eviticus S.

Yelp
Been coming here the last couple of months, but lately the service has been terrible. Placed a call in she took the order. She said 20 minutes, get there told them about my call in order she couldn't find the ticket. So placed my order again, waoted about 15 minutes the order came up. I told her just salt and pepper on the 1/2 white, why did she just put mild sauce on it when I told just salt and pepper? I just took the order because I didn't feel like waiting for another one.

Dee S.

Yelp
I was super excited to have Harold's back in the community..After a few visits I was very disappointed. My second visit there my mother ordered chicken gizzards and they were fried too hard almost through and through..my 3rd visit, I was in there it smelled like burning grease so when my order was up I mentioned how dark it looked..The man whom I believed to be the cook but later discovered he is the owner; came out to the lobby and stated the best part about working with the public is at the end of the night when you close..he proceeded to say you need to be positive its a new yr and blah blah blah..That's all I heard when I snapped back telling him he just opened and he is starting wrong..I suspected he refried the chicken..My suspicions were confirmed when I got home, the chicken was super salty and tasted like lemon pepper..now I watched the young lady bag it and when she asked if I wanted lemon pepper I said no and she complied..I believe they went to heavy with another person who returned it and refried it and sold it to me..the reason why I was suspicious in the first place is because the other cook kept running to the window telling me I got you..i got you..im frying it fresh..he was doing too much shucking and jiving which is usually a sigh of deception..im not going to say never again but I will say not likely...This review is for the new Harold's near 87th and Stoneyland

Yelp
Last Friday I ordered a fish through Grubhub it was suppose to be delivered by 7: o'clock, I could track the order for some reason and @ 7:10 I received a message they were closed, I had waited over 45 minutes & could have ordered from another place. Today I placed an order over the phone to pick up, the young lady took the order, my name and told me it would be 15 minutes. When my husband got there they told him they didn't have a order for Williams, it had not been placed. Needless to say I called to talk to the manager while he was still there & the person spoke with was the same person who took my order and she said she didn't. Well after two tries I will not try them again & if she was the manager with her attitude they won't be open long.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place. It's so close to my house . This is the second time that I've been there and this is also the second time that they have messed up my order. The first time my food was given away and the employee expected me to run outside to someone's car and tell them they had my food. When he noticed I wasn't moving he ran out and brought it back. Seriously is that the appropriate thing to do? Give me food that someone already took and was attempting to drive off with. The cashier apologized and stated that she was not going to give me that. The second time I went there I ordered 2 10 peice wings and a cat and wing combo. Before I left the restaurant the cashier noticed that chicken was light and asked him if that was 10 wings. He said yes but it wasnt. Didn't realize until I got home. I should have checked. I already waited 20 minutes what's another few seconds. So I was short 5 wings in my 10 wings special and guess what else..... I didn't have any wings in my fish combo. When I called and complained the cook is basically calling me a liar. Ridiculous!!!! I just spent almost $40 in this establishment you think I need to lie about some missing wings. Get real. I won't be back!!!!!!!

Linda L.

Yelp
THIS HAROLD'S NEEDS TO GET IT TOGETHER, currently this place would be better operated, if ran by circus clowns. The customer service is horrible, the young lady taking the orders on a Wednesday around 5:30ish was having a dispute with the individuals that were cooking, loud talking and using profanity (awful). Why is that okay and expected in any neighborhood? I placed a phone ordered and was told I can pick up in 15 minutes, well once I got there (15mins after placing my order), I waited an additional 20 minutes for my order (this is what you get, trying to patronize a small business in the wake of COVID-19). So, in order to get ANY sauce on your food you have to pay for it, I paid $2.00 for sauce and once I made it home, I had dry fries and dry chicken (so, I guess they charge you for something, with no intention on delivering, which is certainly a ripe off). It's like ordering a sandwich and being told you have to pay for the condiments.
