I’ve been coming to this Harold’s for over 13 years, and year over year they’ve progressively gotten worse that’s ended them where they’re at currently - in the toilet. Their service is the worst part of the experience. In addition to lying about their wait times (often taking an additional 1.5 hours for 1 simple order), their actually employees are unpleasant, nonchalant and unprofessional. It’s disheartening to see a spot that was once able to be counted on for their punctuality and professionalism be ruined and turned into a disgrace to the Harold’s franchise.

I order from here a lot and tonight was my 1st time calling them to complain I was missing items and my fries was old and cold never did the person asked if I wanted to come get my missing items or replace my cold food but what took the cake was when the young lady stated I’ll tell the cook…. No compensate me AND BO LEMON PEPPER 😡😡

I was in this Harolds on 12/12 2026 at 610pm. The young lady at the register was counting her drawer down. She never acknowledged me waiting to order. But the part was when she walked away came back, walked away again and sat down on her phone and never said anything. When I said excuse me, she came back to the window and said nothing, holding her phone. I walked out. My 11 year old son looked at me and said "why are they so rude to people everytime we are in here. Then he said "that lady was extra rude for no reason". I hope the manager/owner reads this because she should not work with the public. We come here alot and the service has never be good ,but the food was fresh. I would never recommend this Harolds again. Former customer:(

This location is horrible with poor customer service. I placed a DoorDash order for pickup and when I arrived I was told they didn’t have my order even after I showed them the confirmation. The man at the window was extremely rude and dismissive. I even said I would pay for the food again if he could just make it and he told me it’s not his issue and to take it up with DoorDash. I then left and called the store because DoorDash told me they spoke with them and the store told DoorDash they gave me my order. The young lady at this location who I spoke with on the phone was rude and cursed me out and said she didn’t “gaf about what I was talking about.” Terrible and they need to be shut down

I made the mistake of ordering from DoorDash, and I paid for the express shipping of my order. However, delivery on this day was free, with a 46-minute time estimate. That was flag number one. Now it is an hour later and 2 drivers later...still NO FOOD. And the bill was over $50.00. NEVER AGAIN!! NEVER!!

They are rude they are slow. Cashier who claims to be the manager charged me $2 for lemon pepper then was on the phone yapping the whole time DID NOT put lemon pepper on the chicken when I told her I don’t see or taste it she said she put it on there. Yes I know lemon pepper has tendency to dissolve but this is not even 3 mins after I got it and it took 20 mins to get the chicken you can see on the paper there’s no lemon pepper as well. The chicken was cold as well. She then said she couldn’t put any lemon pepper on there without charging me another $1.

It is not often I complain about the service at this location. However it makes no sense to wait more than 45 minutes to get an order with one cook and one cashier. I probably won’t patronize this one again

Nasty establishment, nasty customer service, nasty experience all the way and it doesn't matter how polite or kind you are when expressing your distaste, the people who work here will literally push you to your limits. This establishment has officially disgust me regard the way the cook the food, the way they bag it, etc. Uncleanliness at best. This isn't a one time thing. This occurs every time I come which is why I will no longer frequent this establishment

Delicious food as always, very consistent. Customer service is good, but you must be the one to initiate the process as they are not a friendly greeting establishment. The ambience can be sketchy so it's best to show up get your food and leave. When ordering online, be sure to have your receipt with your name on it pulled up and ready to show the cashier through the bulletproof window.

Depends on if you don't have an issue with decor (like with many Harold's on the south side). If you like semi decent service with a busted speaker, so you have to speak very loudly so they can hear you behind the tempered glass. If you don't mind waiting after you called in your order, then this one's for you! However, once you get your food, for the most part, it's good. Despite the crowded parking lot at times, if you live in the area and want a quick Harold's run, shake a tail feather over here.

This is by far the worst service I have EVER received! After waiting 53minutes inside the store for an order placed online 15minutes before I even walked in the door, I never received any apology for the wait but instead was met with an even worse attitude. Not once did she mention there would be an extended wait because they were backed up or anything. That would have at least given me the option to decide if I wanted to wait or not, no consideration for the customers time nothing. Needless to say I will NEVER come back to this location even if they was giving the chicken away

A place to order is 616. I was told I would get it in 15 minutes. It is now 706 and my order still isn't here. The young ladies in this restaurant are extremely rude. No organization they're taking Uber orders before the people that are standing there That are waiting. Who also paid their money as well. This is the worst Harold ever I will never patronize this place again and I will give the I wish I could give this place a -10 people are walking out. People are loudly cursing and they're moving like snails like their feet are in cement. This is utterly ridiculous but us as Black people we except the secondary service that they give us not this black person though I'll never patronize this place again

Separately they embarrassed the hell out of themselves with a recent YouTube food review. If you can avoid this one... do so.

On today, June 8, 2024 I went to Harold Chicken on 73rd and Stony Island and ordered the large livers as I had ordered for many years there. Today I ordered the large livers but when it received the order, it was that of a small. I received 10 small pieces of livers with fries. It took over 45 mins to receive and when I did, it was a total shock of insult. This order which were suppose to be a large cost $12.00. I should of known something wasnt right because when I arrived, no people were there and in the past, it's always crowded on a Saturday. I had been going to this Harokd since the early 90's but today is an end of an era. I will now be supporting J&J Fish. Harold on 73rd and Stony Island have increased their prices but cut back on the food prepared. Don't waste your money here. The long era of this place is over!!!. What an insult to the community.

I order a catfish and wing combo through Uber Eats and it was terrible!! Everything was overcooked and stale except the fries which were undercooked. They must have used old grease because it also had a burnt taste to it. THE ENTIRE ORDER WAS TERRIBLE!!

First off the only reason this restaurant got 5 stars is because of the young woman with the loc. She was the only pleasant thing about this experience and the ONLY employee with good customer service. However the rest of the staff has the nastiest attitudes I've ever seen and they are also lazy and careless. They couldn't care less about being there or helping a customer. The owner needs to stop hiring children to run the business because this experience was horrible.

The absolute worst establishment I have ever been into? Ordered my food at 1:12 walked in and watched 12 people order at the window and leave with their food. Never did someone say your order is on its way. Finally asked they said 10 more minutes, they finally said it's they had to drop it fresh lol well what did the 12 people before me get unfresh chicken? Hold these stores accountable for their actions and behaviors stop allowing them to place signs in the windows stating. We are not obligated to serve rude and disrespectful customers but it's okay to be disrespected.. But you want us to spend in our communities... Lord give them guidance...

Chicken is good but this location is extremely stingy with the sauce. You're paying almost a dub for your order just for it not to be made right. I order through Uber eats because I can't deal with the attitude. They will literally ignore you as if these customers aren't keeping you business.

I had been craving Harolds for a week, I went to this location because it's close to my home. I had been to this location before and it was no better then. The cashier was on her phone all the while exposing her butt crack, however, she was nice. this experience was worse because I had called my order in and they said it would be ready in 15 minutes I arrived 20 minutes later to a crowd of very unhappy people, some were complaining of waiting over an hour, and a man returned very upset that his order was not correct, he asked to speak to a supervisor after about ten minutes a man came to the window the customer asked if he could step out so he could better explain how the cashier messed up his order the supervisor said man I'm cooking, what u want, the guy got even angrier, meanwhile I'm not sure if he was a friend or worked there but a guy was in and out doing laundry next door with a blanket hanging from his shoulders and going in and out where the food was being prepared. just disgusting I'm done with this location. I will travel for my Harolds from now on. if you don't mind uncleanliness and rude customer service then this is your place.

Terrible customer service, my daughter liked the food, I would not eat this crap. Made a Yelp online order prepaid. When I got there, no one was waiting but the two employees were not coming to the window. After a while, the guy came acting like I disturb them and I said it is an online order and gave my name and order. Despite it sitting in front of them in a paper bag with my name on it, they waited to give me my food acting like they did not feel like it. I finally said, well they took the $30 and showed my phone. Never has this happen elsewhere then in the south side of Chicago, where people expect criminality to a point of disrespecting honest people. Not my fault if YOU are a stealer, not everyone is... but it is hard to know for people with a crooked mind

The food is good but customer service is horrible. When you call they put you on hold for over 10 mins which explains when you call the phone is always busy. Customer service is Important and a customers time is also. Basic consideration and communication by simply informing a customer that they are busy and are not taking over the phone orders at the moment is appropriated.

The chicken was ok. We no longer live in Chicago and was trying to get our Harold's chicken fix and it worked. I just wish they had fried the chicken hard as I requested. It definitely hit the spot, I haven't had Harold's in years. I would've definitely order from this location again, I would just get my mild sauce on the side. I ordered over the phone and picked up. The process was easy. I can't wait to get back to the Chi to eat some more..

Terrible customer service! Then to suggest my debit card doesn't work when I have $$$$. After another try where I illustrate how to put card in, it goes through, I ask why did it go through she shrugs and says I don't know I tried a few times...just whack, I won't be back here...No wonder it's empty AF in here versus the 75th street location... I work too hard for my money to pay for BS service..and to think fast food workers want to make $15/hour or more, NOPE some don't deserve it... Management please train your staff on how to deal with the public as you never know who your customers are and the influence they have...regardless, there should always be a culture of respect, humility, and kindness extended to customers if your selling a product... That's all..

Rude unprofessional staff rude cashier the most ignorant female I've ever met in my life. And the cook and some elderly man didn't even try to correct her. I'll never set foot up in that hole in the wall as long as I live. I'll do what ever I can to get it shut down. They have no idea what customer service is and the cook and the elderly man must be thirsty for a cashier but while she was disrespecting me they lost three customers! Black people always want to talk about white people are holding them back. No it's you with your ignorant staff members. Those young girls gonna cost you your business!

Dear friends of mine were moving out of town and on our last dinner together they wanted Harold's Chicken. I ordered the chicken and spoke with Ieshia. She was so pleasant and assured me the chicken would be fresh. And it was. The chicken and the fries were so good we all truly enjoyed it. In fact, I am back again today. It is great to go to a place in the neighborhood.

I would not recommend this location. The customer service was terrible, the order was wrong, and the food was nasty as fuck. After waiting for almost an hour for chicken, it tasted like it had been thrown back in the grease. Probably the worse I've had from Harold's. I will no longer be patronizing this location. Do something with your folks preparing orders. I tried calling to inform of the order being wrong, I didn't get an answer. I called hour on the hour for three hours. This is by far the worse location in the city of Chicago. BAD BAD BAD!!!

Lengthy professional Review: I went to Harolds on 74th and stony island yesterday. I've been to this harolds many times as i once lived down the street. I ordered a chicken wing/catfish combo with lemon pepper and mild sauce fried hard. I was told 20mins and my order would be ready. I decided to wait in the car. I took a look at my receipt to see what time i placed my order. While looking at the customer copy from my debit purchase i noticed that there was a discrepancy. I was charged $22.60 instead of $11.30. I went back inside and informed the cashier about the error she made. She then asked for both of the receipts and said she would be back(she left out of the building). While waiting on the cashier to come back I was given my order. The cashier came back a few minutes later with the person who was going to be able to fix her error. He (the owner) then opened the register and handed $11.30 to a different worker and instructed her to give me the money. He( the owner) then left out of the back area attemting to leave. I then asked him(the owner) for a receipt. He(the owner) then went back in the employees only door to get near the register. He(the owner) had the cashier find the receipt. He(the owner) then asked me "did I really need a receipt?". I replied "Yes. I made a purchase I would like a receipt." He(the owner) informed me that I first had to sign the original debit customer copy receipt stating that he had given me a refund. I was then told I would be given a copy of the receipts. He(the owner) then placed the receipts on the copy machine which is located at the front right by the cakes and cookies. Next he (the owner) went to the back of the restaurant for a few minutes. As im waiting there patiently for him (the owner) to give me a copy of the receipt I began to get my thoughts together for this review. He finally came back to the front and handed me the copy of the receipts below. 1st issue: An apology would have been nice. Had i received one this review would have probably in a different direction. 2nd issue :Granted he gave me the refund. I didnt want the cash i wanted my money put back on my card where it was. 3rd issue: why is there a tip option on the cash register? I've heard of tip jars at these type of establishments but to have a tip option on your register?? 4th issue: Had I not looked at the debit receipt i would have been out of $11.60. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Short version : I went to Harolds on 73rd and stony. The cashier charged me double. She went to get the owner to fix her fuck up. The owner then brought his old crypt keeper looking ass in there like we was disturbing his nap. He acted like he didn't want to give me a receipt. Im never going back to this scam ass Harolds again.

I spend money here like it's no problem, but then you get people who don't have people skills and bring their problems to work, and it's like "ummm I'm not spending my money here and any of the friends, family, and acquaintances i have i will put a stop to them coming too." So i get to the window and the girl had a really bad attitude. Customer service was horrible. I mean I come here all the time because this is the Harold's I trust, but i honestly think after tonight's service I will not be coming back. You should always be careful who you put in the front of your restaurant. Yo never know who may come in to get served. She wouldn't even give me the managers name! Upon arriving I had to wait until the cashier was done surfing social media before placing my order. I asked for 4 wings with mild sauce and black pepper, however once I arrived at my home I opened chicken drenched in salt. It literally tasted as if the top fell off of the salt shaker mid pour! Customer service is a major factor for me when I'm patronizing a business, because I believe that no matter the job professionalism should be exercised. Please train the cashiers to be professional so they do not limit themselves in life! Phones and food do not mix!

I stopped by this Harold's last night on my way home. Ordered a 10 piece with mild sauce and peppers. I was very disappointed. The smallest wings I've ever had. The 10 piece did not serve its purpose. The fries were dry. It's like they ran out of mild sauce.

I placed 3 different orders, my personal order was for catfish fried hard, well.... when I got home I immediately noticed it was not catfish. It was more like whiting or some other cheaper fish. It definitely was not fried hard & the slaw was disgusting & I am a slaw lover. Needless to say I am beyond disappointed, won't be going back here. I'll stick to 75th & King Drive. My Husband ate his chicken because he was hungry & he paid for it & our daughter picked over hers as well as I. Lesson learned, don't eat here.

I hate the little girls that work here. Especially now with COVID. They don't answer the phone because they take the phone off the hook and if they do answer they leave you sitting on hold. You'd think they'd rather call in orders so people can leave as soon as possible. But what do you expect especially off Stony? They should do better with their customer service.

So yeah my great-uncle called in an order for 20 wings. I'm in town visiting and was excited to try Harold's. When he received his order he had a pan full of dark meat. How hard is it to confuse 20 wings with legs and thighs and what kind of morons does this location have working there? Owner needs to hire a consultant to instruct management and staff how to handle the day to day. Better yet, fire everyone and start over. The rest of the order was okay, but how the hell do you mess up the main thing--the bird? We were starving so we just kept it. Smh. If I could give them zero stars, I would. #dobetter

I ordered seven wings but only received six. The cashier was very rude when I returned my order. I asked for a fresh order of wings because my food was no longer hot. She just wanted to give me the wing. She refused to give me a new order. I felt this was very unprofessional. She didn't even apologize. I was inconvenienced because I got all the way home and got comfortable, only to discover I had to go back to the restaurant. Don't argue with customers about food. Mistakes happen. Just apologize and don't give customers a hard time for wanting hot food. Did you forget that I'm a paying customer. It's a shame that I had to get a refund and visit a Harold's outside my neighborhood!

I make my order online, when I get there they say that they're closed when it clearly says they close at 1:00 it was 12:50 when I get there...why would they have me make my order, then say come pick it up when you're closed..and not even closing at the right time. But yet they all wanna pack up the food and take it home for themselves. Pissed me off. Who does that?!

The food is very overpriced. They claim to take debit, but it is a "cashless atm" so they take the money from your card but charge you 3 bucks to use it. I was not aware of that til after I had purchased my meal. The chicken wings are huge but not in a good way. The grease was old tasting the last time I was there, and of course the customer service is terrible. If I'm spending money in any place, I would like to be greeted as such. Only go here because it is across the street, but if you want good tasting Harold's, try the establishment on 83rd and stony, still overpriced but the customer service is good and the establish looks cleaner.

Walked in on a whim, and I think I interrupted the cashier's lunch break because she had sauce all over her mouth area and was talking on the phone. I got wings and asked for extra sauce which I didn't receive, but the wings were still good.

I attempted to call the order and the line was busy. I had to drive r to the location before placing my order. Once inside the seating was noticed as old and tattered....but you are able to sit. The line moved quickly. There was a 15 minute wait for my order.....However it was hot, fresh, and delicious! I am so glad I stopped by for lunch.

Why does this place put the "CASH ONLY," sign at the top of a tall window, instead of at human eye level? They use the weirdest ATM machine, I ever seen, which charges a .99 cent fee. OTHER THAN THAT, THE CHICKEN IS DELICIOUS. YES!

I called my order in and ask that the chicken is fried fresh. Picked up my my order and I had party wings and my chicken was refried. horrible service. They need to close down.

It was my first time going to Harold's Chicken Shack. The in-restaurant menus really looks like they need better looks before making your order. For some orders, it doesn't say that what you order comes with fries or not on the menus, there's aren't much side orders to go with your order besides the french fries, okra, and cole slaw, when you order something the receipt doesn't tell you what you just order and it's difficult to comprehend your order number on your receipt. Also, add more chairs and 4-people tables to sit at where the customers can sit and wait for their orders instead of standing up and waiting for their orders. Harold's Chicken Shack is okay, but it needs to change the looks of its menus in order to make it clear of what the customers want to order at the restaurant, add more side orders like mac-n-cheese, rice, etc., create simple and comprehending receipts, and add more chairs and 4-people tables in the restaurant to sit at.
