Where to Drink Guinness in the Charlotte Area This Holiday Season | Eater

"Cornelius’ go-to Irish pub and kitchen is a local’s destination — the obvious answer for where to get a casual bite and a quick beer. It has an untouched feel to it, maybe because of the dated yellow walls, or more likely the fact that the Guinness and pot pie on the menu are a timeless pairing. It’s also an absolute, loud-and-proud hub for Premier League. On occasion, visitors can also catch a rugby match, a derby showing, and even an Irish dance performance or two, be that inside or at the bustling outdoor bar. During the holiday season, the team even organizes a Santa brunch with holiday music, drink specials, donation raffles, and obviously, photos with Santa." - Kayleigh Ruller

Great beer selection. Tasty food. Warm atmosphere. This is a great place to chill with friends, enjoy a nice cold beer, and vibe in the moment. They also had a great selection for brunch, including decently priced mimosas! My boyfriend and I were passing through during lunch and decided to try this place. We both agreed that we would go back on our next trip through town.

Google
First time there. A good value. Moderately priced. I got the braised beef stew. Delicious with a light puff pastry on top but not enough of it. Another in our party had the burger and thought it was very good. We also got fish and chips (fries). Also good fish but fries were a little limp. Nice atmosphere outside bar and tables. Very good entertainment. We will go back. Wednesday 1/2 prices wine. Nice beer selection.

For brunch, we visited this restaurant. It was very busy to be 10am. I love that they have indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered the all American breakfast and bae ordered chicken pancakes. He enjoyed his food. Mine lacked seasoning, so I had to lather it with salt and pepper. Overall, it was a nice visit.

Google
Zac was a great waiter on this dreary afternoon. The tomato bisque was great, the Kentucky mule was tasty, and the toffee sticky pudding was yum! My hubby said the Guinness stew pot pie was flavorful, although the puff pastry could've been a little more browned/cooked. Personally I thought the corned beef egg rolls were very greasy though without much flavor. But overall a good visit.

Went for the first time on Good Friday. Was very please with the staff and interior seating. Took my parents for an amazing fried fish dinner. It was spectacular and will definitely be returning for seconds. Also every plate that went out looked delicious!!!

Google
We really enjoyed our time. Great service and great food on a beautiful day on the patio. We will definitely be back to try more menu options!!!! Highly recommend!

Google
Decided to stop by Harp and Crown LKN after church one Sunday afternoon. The place was crowded but we only waited a few minutes for a table. Our server was great and the food was really good. We went with the Grilled Caesar Salad (added chicken) and the H&C Breakfast Bowl. Both were great!

Google
I took my dad and brother here on Friday night, and we had an absolutely fantastic time! The live music created such an energetic atmosphere that we couldn't resist getting up to dance. The food was incredible--I had the spinach artichoke dip and guiness brisket mac and cheese-- both were a perfect 10/10. Our waitress, Emily, was outstanding--despite the restaurant being packed, she was incredibly attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
We LOVE this spot. Our favorite local pub with fantastic food & drinks. My boyfriend loves their Guinness, as I believe they have the "surge" machine here. Favorite dishes are the Pub Curry, Shepherds Pie, and Chicken Bites!

Yelp
I see this place gets great reviews--I can't give that - perhaps it was just an off night? The staff were friendly, and the live music was fantastic. But unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the rest of the experience. I ordered the Shepherd's Pie. For $17, I was expecting something I'd want to come back for, but it was just mediocre. I also ordered the $11 pretzel, which came out wet and rubbery--clearly microwaved. I took one bite and sent it back. For an upscale Irish pub, I expected a lot more. However, I'm willing to give it another chance as the restaurant itself is a cool little spot.

Yelp
It was SOOOOOO COLD in this place I had to keep a coat on and the other table with people (yes only one other table) had coats on too. Dec 2024

Yelp
The atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice. We love sitting outside when the weather is nice and the music is great, but we ended up sitting at one of the bar tables since the restaurant was busy, and Tyler was a great bartender! We ordered the Beef Wellington and Irish spring rolls for appetizers and then a burger that tasted fabulous. Overall, everything was great!

Yelp
Been my fav place in the Lkn area for going on 4 years! Have been here with family, partners, & loads of friends and everyone always enjoys and wants to return. Drinks are always good & the atmosphere is great. As for food I highly suggest the potato puffs as an app, roast beef hash or chicken & pancakes for brunch, and sandwiches or the British pot roast as mains.

Yelp
Ambiance and live music was great. Food was ok. Half price wine bottles were a plus. Steak was dry/gristly and service was slow. Would give it another chance because the venue is fun and the people were nice. *Update..... want to change to 3 stars now, we left a nice sweatshirt there and although the manager said they would hold on to it for us, when we returned the next day, it was nowhere to be found. Disappointing for sure!

Yelp
Brought my family out for a pleasant night out. Sat for 20 minutes waiting to be served while the wait staff ignored our table. I'm sure it was simple miscommunication but it was clear that people saw our table and said "not my problem." Bad team. A shame, as it will cost them a lot of money in the long run.

Yelp
I had such a good time at this restaurant and pub. It's a really cool relaxing environment. I was able to sit at the bar outside the bartender was Savanna who was super nice and friendly. There are also a lot of tables outside so if you don't want to sit at the bar. You can definitely get a table. While it is dog friendly, it's not overwhelming. Simple Irish pub food that tastes very fresh. We had the fish and chips, green salad and smash burger with French fries. The menu is typically Irish food and you'll be satisfied with every bite. Bathrooms can be updated a bit but they are clean.

Yelp
Atmosphere has lost its Britishness. Food is average and not special. It is handy place for dinner when you can't think of anywhere you really want to go. The outside bar is fine if you can take the thousand degree heat. If you want to impress anyone with an impressive dining experience, this is "not" the place. However, if you want to sit around and talk loudly, drink, and eat average food, this should fit the requirement. Better than the new place that opened.

Yelp
Hidden in a shopping center in Catawba Ave is an Irish pub gem. As you walk to the door you encounter their patio and outdoor bar with tvs - a welcome site on a comfortable evening. Walk inside and you'll enjoy a seat at the bar, a table, or one of several booths. The highlight of the dinner was the Guinness Brisket Mac and Cheese. The beer and cheese mixed well and created a delicious sauce for the meal. My son said the grilled cheese was awesome. I grabbed a few of his fries which soaked up the right amount of oil while maintaining a good level of crispiness. The food was good and the service was attentive. I often associate Irish food with colder evenings and look forward to returning as the cooler weather approaches.

Yelp
Wonderful atmosphere, great service, and most importantly, great food! So far, the meatloaf is #1 and the Rueben is #2 on my list! I ordered the meatloaf two nights in a row!

Yelp
Not happy with this place!!! March 19th went to have lunch for the first time at this restaurant. We get to Harp and Crown Pub and a crowd of people are standing outside with the owner saying they are closed!!!! Online says they are open!! Not happy with this place and I will never go back!
google avatar

Yelp
Fried chicken salad was so good!!! Love the chill atmosphere and my food! Definitely going back!

Yelp
Atmosphere 5 stars. Service 5 stars. Food/Value 2 stars. Really cute place but for the money it's really not worth it. The corned beef and cabbage entree didn't even contain enough meat for half of a sandwich. ( unsure of a better way to describe) My plate was full... of cabbage. Not worth $18 by any means.

Yelp
Fish and chips are great but wish there was more fish. Seems like the portions reduced but price went up

Yelp
The service was great! Maddie did a great job taking care of us. She recommended the Reuben and it was an absolutely great food choice. The ambience was Irish pub style with plenty of sports on the television. Definitely a must!

Yelp
We loved everything about this place. We tried it on a rainy night. The atmosphere is welming and comforting. Our server was top notch. The drinks and the food were A+. We will definitely be back.

Kayla S.

Yelp
A fun vibe for a weeknight dinner with very affordable entrees & drinks. Food taste was 3/5. The pretzel felt microwaved & lacked flavor. Our entrees were also okay. Service was kind!

Yelp
This place produces some great comfort food. I love hearty foods with sauces and gravies to add to the comfort level. Both of our selections tonight left us feeling very satisfied. To start the night off I ordered a Scooby Snack from the full bar. It was great and made correctly. It came out promptly. Our server made food recommendations that were spot on. I ordered the Irish meatloaf. It was a fantastic choice. The meatloaf was paired with sautéed vegetables and served on mashed potatoes. The meatloaf is made of pork and beef and is perfectly cooked. It is topped with a braised Sherry cabbage cream sauce. The sauce is amazing. We also ordered a shepherd's pie. It was a huge portion of goodness. Both entrees were excellent. The place is clean. They have a 95.5 sanitation grade. The restrooms were tidy. The dining room was very clean. I love this place.

Yelp
Walked in on a Friday night thinking we had a reservation (we did not-it was for another Harp and Crown in another state!) The hostess was so good about it and managed to squeeze us in anyway. There was live entertainment which was an extra treat. We split the Jameson bbq wings, Reuben spring rolls and Irish potato puffs, along with a few Jameson shots (it's an Irish pub what can I say?!?). Atmosphere is definitely pub like but fun and noise (even with the live music) was not overbearing! Enjoyed our time and will be a repeat if back in the are!

Yelp
We ordered to-go but sat at the bar for a drink while our food was being prepared. I loved their outdoor patio seating! We ordered fish and chips (a pub go-to food for both of us) and some pretzel sticks. At the bar, John enjoyed a beer and I had an old fashioned. Our food was ready super fast! I gulped down my drink so we could get back to the adjacent brewery and family. The fish was fantastic! Exactly what I expected from a local pub. John loved the fries. The pretzel was slightly over heated- but I am a pretzel snob. The beer cheese that came with the pretzels was great! Next time we visit Charlotte- I hope to return and enjoy dining in!

Yelp
A friend selected this restaurant for lunch before heading out to do wine tasting. I must admit I was intrigued by the name, but then a little less enthused when looking at photos. I guess I expected more of an upscale interior. However, the reviews were awesome so I was onboard. We were seated outside on a sunny afternoon and thankfully our table was covered by an umbrella. I ordered a Sparkletini cocktail and was disappointed that I couldn't see glitter in my glass, unlike the one my friend received. Taste was good though. Most of the brunch items going past me looked amazing, so don't ask why I chose the bangers and mash instead. Curiosity I guess, because I've wanted to try it previously but never did. It was just ok. And I don't know that is due to any fault of the restaurant, it was more the combination of food. Overall I wasn't impressed, but I should have ordered the pancakes like I started to. I plan to give H&C another try one day.

Yelp
An awesome authentic Irish/English pub experience. Best place for St Patty's Day, love going early!
google avatar

Yelp
I have been here a few times, and it is really great. They allow dogs, on the patio which is a plus in my books. Lots of tvs to watch games! Heading there today to watch some!! Recommend for sports fans and pet lovers!

Yelp
Nice neighborhood spot with very traditional pub food - nice wine list and beer. Their patio is great with ample seating- lots of greenery and plants - a bustling bar with TVS for view anywhere you sit. We have always loved outdoor dining and right now it's the only way we dine "in" at a restaurant with Covid even though we are vaccinated. We just feel better outside. I had the meatloaf and it was good not the absolute best but good - the mashed tators were good as were the veggies. I didn't care for the cabbage or Sauerkraut not sure which it was trying to be but neither worked for me. Hubby had Cobb Salad with Salmon and liked it. The real star was the spinach artichoke dip - the creamiest I've ever had with a definite onion/garlic note but not overpowering- Yummage right there!!

Yelp
Fantastic food, service and neighborhood pub atmosphere. Salads have homemade dressing, Reubens are the best as are the burgers, Fresh Guinness on tap. I Highly recommend.

Yelp
picked up my lovely bride from the CLT and needed to get some food in her but it was Saturday evening and most places in town were full up. figured we could be almost home before getting sat and that's how we wound up in the friendly confines of Harp and Crown. nice night out and after a bit of chair-swapping (if you've been you'll know; if not you'll see) dining on the patio was very nearly perfect - couple groups watching college football on the TV nearest but association football on the TV furthest. server greeted us and took a drink order (Harp for MLB and Magner's for me) told us she might disappear from time to time since she had 18 in the main room besides a half dozen others - lots of folks are in for the Saturday night matches - always good to know in advance and turned out it wasn't a big deal :-) because someone was always around and willing to throw in. apps came out shortly and mains right along with which was fine this time. puffy irish potato things were kinda fun: light and fluffy and potato on the inside, crispy brown on the outside, four of them teed-up old school on a dollop of gravy... so I'm guessing mashie potatoes?? my meatloaf was exceptional! hot and tender and flavorful blend of loafed meats on a bed of mashed taters buried under a mound of creamed cabbages, in lieu of gravy who'd have thunk it? savory accompanied by a different sort of savory piping hot and delicious plus grilled summer veggies and spuds. MLB's cod were large and fluffy and fishy but not too fishy like all good fish should be. light beer batter crisped up nicely, crunchy but not burny, plus a nice pile of standard fries and a satisfying cup o' slaw. enough to fill her up with a bit left over for snacks tomorrow :-)

Yelp
A friend from out of town was passing through and asked if I wanted to meet up for lunch on Sunday. I agreed and decided to hit this joint because I had never been there. Well, that's not 100% true. I had been to this location years earlier under a different name. I remember a party atmosphere and a lot of people. Harp and Crown is nothing like that, which might relate to a smaller bar. At 1 p.m. on an NFL Sunday, there were fewer than two dozen people. This is usually a bad sign, but the food, comfort level, and service were all excellent. We sat at a high top and our server stopped by many times to make sure everything was okay. Timing of food and drink delivery were on the money. When my friend asked for a check, the waiter thought he said, "A chick." My friend followed that up with a comment that will remain a mystery to readers. I know this review relates to Harp and Crown, but I'm going to add that this was good/fun/chill company. This dude doesn't take himself too seriously and has some amazing stories. So amazing, in fact, that I might write a book about his experiences. Part of that is because he has applied one of my poker strategies from The Perfect Range (SPATS). He has made so much money from that book that he just bought a condo in Vegas (for poker purposes). He told me I changed his life. That felt pretty good. A little off-topic there, but it's good for readers to get to know the real you. As far as my burger goes, they nailed it. My friend also raved his meal, but I don't remember what it was and I didn't take a picture. I just remember seeing a bowl with yellow stuff in it. Highly recommended! I have no idea how it was so empty. Maybe because the Panthers weren't playing this week? Bar too small? Not sure.

Yelp
One of the best patios in the area with it's own bar. Had so much on the menu and have loved everything. Favorites: bangers & mash, salmon, burgers, fish & chips. Excellent brunch on Saturdays & Sundays. Several TVs to watch a soccer match or some football. Good beer selection. Live music sometimes, so check their media. Excellent choice. Enjoy!
google avatar

Yelp
Love the ambience & atmosphere. The service is great & friendly. They have a good Reuben sandwich & Flatiron salad.

Yelp
Good food, good atmosphere and quick kind service. Brought my family' and they raved about hot delicious all the food was .

Yelp
Had dinner and drinks for a girl's night out and we had the best time. Partly because of the company but also because of our service. We had a great waiter (Gabriel) who didn't rush us and was very attentive in the best un-interrupting way. Food was good but the Ruben Eggrolls one of our friends got were NOT. Do not get them!! Two of us got the Ruben sandwiches and another got the chicken quesadilla and all of those were great. And because it was my birthday we ordered the Sticky Toffee Pudding to share and it was VERY good.
google avatar

Tom N.

Yelp
The staff was super friendly and the beer/wine was decent. Had a couple of apps and they were pretty good as well. But a bit run down and as one of the other reviewers noted the booths aren't in good shape
google avatar

Christina V.

Yelp
We went for dinner last week and after being seated found the restaurant to be in need of some real improvements. The booth seats were all taped up with duct tape and I actually got stuck to the tape while dining. Table tops were sticky. The food is just ok, everything we ordered appeared to be microwaved, I had been here before and it was a full restaurant and bar but this Friday evening at 7pm was virtually dead, only 2 other tables had customers and 2 people at the bar. It seems like the ownership could do some cleaning and refresh the place. It needs some TLC. I'm not sure we'd go back unless there is a remodel and things improve.

Yelp
Wonderful. Delicious food, Great staff...very accommodating with special dietary concerns!

Yelp
Wife and I decided try out this Irish pub for their brunch. We sat outside in possibly one of the nicest outdoor patios we've seen. Great outdoor bar, fireplace, tvs. They weren't doing indoor sitting at this time but from what we saw it was nice wood finished indoor pub style. A lot of traditional Ireland decor, futbol jerseys etc I ordered the Shepherds pie (10/10) and was not disappointed. Savory, salty gravy thats perfect on a cook day. Since moving to NC this has been the best SP I've had. We'll be back 100%. Sláinte!

Delina B.

Yelp
The Guinness marinated slow roast beef is amazing. It's so good, I can't order anything else. Highly recommended.

Jenny H.

Yelp
OMG Harp and Crown in Cornelius! Don't walk, run! I've lived in the area for years and have somehow missed this gem. This is a super cool pub environment with amazing food and service! I had a strawberry mule and bang bang shrimp and each were the best I've ever had. Ally our server was icing on the cake! She gave the best service and had food recommendation and really took her time with us even though she was busy. Loooove her! Even saved her in my phone to ask for next time. Just go! It's great!.... and ask for Ally!
google avatar

Tammy B.

Yelp
Excellent atmosphere. Love the outdoor space. We sat at the outside bar and Ryan the bartender has the best personality and offered great service. Very attentive. My husband and I both had the blackened Mahi Mahi Sandwich with extra crispy fries and a side salad. The Mahi was cooked perfectly, very moist and not over cooked. Live music tonight (Thursday) was by Anthony Girillo and he was awesome. A fun place to come with great food and service.

Michael M.

Yelp
The wife and I just got back from a 10 day visit in England during Prince Charles coronation as King. The food and people were delightful to be around. We wanted to extend the vibe on our return home so we tried this restaurant for first time. It took 25 minutes for server to come to our table of two and another 20 minutes to receive a cocktail and beer. Our appetizer came out cold and and sent back to re-make. Our 2 dinners came out extremely lackluster and a MAJOR disappointment. The restaurant name may say England cuisine but the food and service is NOT in the same realm. One and done!
google avatar

Terry D.

Yelp
We are a retired party of four who showed up for lunch on a Friday at noon. We were promptly greeted and shown to our seatS. The restaurant was cool and quiet and well appointed. All of us chose breakfast items from the menu. The food was served hot and was extremely well prepared. I personally thought the western omelette was the best I had ever eaten. Our server was friendly and attentive. Prices were reasonable and the servings were More than sufficient. We will definitely go back!
google avatar

Daisy S.

Yelp
What a great meal! We haven't been to The Harp and Crown in awhile, but I checked out their menu and I was pretty stoked to go back. We ordered the Beef Wellington to start. Delicious! The pastry and sauce were perfectly balanced with the beef inside. I also ordered a blackberry bourbon to start which was flavorful and just what I needed after my day. Definitely recommend! I ordered the southern fried chicken salad which was so good! It wasn't exactly what I thought it would be, but in such a good way. Loved the touch of candied pecans, too. My boyfriend ordered the Irish meatloaf - so much food! Mashed potatoes, veggies, and the meatloaf. We both ended up getting boxes to go because we couldn't finish our meals. The service was a little slow, but honestly it was a Friday night so I'm not mad about it.

Jeff B.

Yelp
$34 for a glass of Redbreast 12? This is robbery. The bottle is $67 disgraceful. Never going again

Bonnie E.

Yelp
First time having brunch here and we can't wait to go back! My husband had the shepherd's pie which he said was very favorable and delicious. I had the chicken and pancakes which was also very good.
google avatar

Alissa D.

Yelp
Not EVERY item on the menu is a home run, but there are lots of great options. Offer a decent array of drinks and cocktails, comfortable/casual environment, and friendly environment indoor and outside on the patio as well.

Jack M.

Yelp
oyyyy m8 i'm bri'ish amirite???? oyyy they got the bangers n mash mate! an' the shepards pie ya wee lad! oy m8 and they have the sticky toffee pudding like the gentry!! actually this place is super good

Yelp
It was an okay spot but overall nothing special. The potato puffs were delicious, but the Reuben was fairly average and the brisket Mac and cheese underwhelmed. Food was actually pretty quick but the order came out wrong. Was a reasonable fix but I don't think it was handled particularly well by our sever. Probably not a place I'd head back to, better spots in the area.
