I followed my hairdresser to every salon she’s worked at. Valerie is an artist and she knows how to work with my course hair texture. Harper salon has nice ambiance and they give you free tea! Totally worth the premium price for a haircut. I switched salons after my last place botched a Brazilian blowout job. Harper’s has top notch professional colorists on staff and even a makeup artist station.

Just went in this morning for an appointment I scheduled yesterday. I only had a little time with Gretchen but she put a perfect gloss over my hair to even out the faded color. So gorgeous completely understood what i wanted. Tomo is amazing, a master with scissors, so intentional, and honestly my new favorite person. He was so kind. One of the best cuts I’ve ever gotten. Thank you.

I absolutely love this salon! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming! They immediately ask if you would like water etc.I take a keratin treatment from her and my hair has never been so soft and straight till today! HIGHLY suggest this salon for all of your hair needs: cut, color, hair transformations!

This place is great. I’ve been coming to this salon since it opened up as Harper Salon. I have been following my wonderful, irreplaceable colorist, Fernando for over 25 years. I booked a same-day appointment with Philippe for a cut. I was ready to cheat on my usual hair stylist and decided to give Harper Salon a try. It's now been a few weeks and I have no regrets. My cut still looks really amazing. Philippe is a super star. In just short of 1 hour, I had the most amazing shampoo, cut and style. And, I have a ton of really long, thick hair. Philippe is truly a professional. Looking forward to my next cut.

I’m visiting LA for a couple days and booked an appointment for a haircut. Sandra took great care of my hair. Having never met me before, she took the time to familiarize herself with my texture, density and face shape, and she executed a most suitable bob (and technically perfect!). I highly recommend Harper Salon and Sandra. Down-to-earth gal with explosive talent!

Loved my haircut from Philippe. My friend recommended him after seeing him for years and I was glad I came to Harper Salon for my first haircut back in LA. Haircut with Philippe Philippe was awesome. He listened to what I was looking for, made some suggestions and showed me his vision before cutting my locks. My hair turned out even better than I expected. Highly recommend! Parking Metered parking on Melrose, Harper and Sweetzer. Check residential parking signs since most streets have resident only parking. Service and Ambiance Everyone was very friendly and helpful, from the front desk staff to Sonia who shampooed my hair. The salon was relaxing and full of light. It felt very relaxing. Covid-19 Safety The salon felt very safe. Everyone had masks on and they were clearly disinfecting and keeping things clean. No concerns on that end Final Verdict Loved my experience and will definitely come back again for my next haircut and color!

There's a reason no one in West Hollywood recommends this salon even though it's on Melrose Avenue. My mom and I walked in and a man working there coerced us into buying a super expensive product even though I was reluctant. He assured me if I didn't like it to just come back in and let them know. I used the shampoo the same day and my hair literally looked like it hadn't been washed in 2 weeks. I called the salon to kindly ask if I could return or exchange and the assistant manager told me she'd speak to the manager, but never did. I kept calling, same story. After several days, I decided to just come into the salon and the assistant manager seemed frazzled and said "she lost my number." She said the manager aka the owner said it's final sale and she can't take responsibility for the man who convinced me to buy the shampoo. The owner was there and I asked if I could speak to her and I see her go over to talk to her and the owner ran away and they let me know "she has to go into a meeting." Mind you this is 5:30 pm on a Friday lol. Clearly they aren't doing well because any salon that was thriving would refund a bullied customer their $55 dollars for a bottle of shampoo that's still completely full. No wonder everyone goes to Allen M down the street, Bomane Salon, and Nine Zero One!

I came here on my birthday to treat myself and get a beautiful haircut and was repeatedly misgendered and told they don't do men's hair. Transphobia salon is what this place should be called

My favorite salon in town!! Everyone is so nice and focused on you. I know every stylist here is excellent. I'm a huge fan of Valerie for over 10 years and I'm picky. I absolutely LOVE Harper Salon! The vibe in here is positive and sunny. I've been a client for about a year-and-a-half. My A-Team = Matt (color) and Tomo (cut & styling). What I love about Matt is he NAILS my hair color time and time again, regardless if it's highlights or a root touch up or something totally new. Matt gives me honest advice and ideas about my color. What I love about Tomo is his passion for styling - he loves what he does and I trust him implicitly with scissors in my hair! I walk out of Harper swinging my hair like I'm ready for a photo shoot. Aura and the team bring such good energy, I always look forward to my time here. I have a lot of hair, and a lot of gray, and have never really enjoyed my time at salons in the past until Harper. These are good people, a fantastic salon, incredible talent, and I'm grateful to have found my hair home (finally, after 5 years) in LA.

Carla Gentile is the bomb. I moved to Los Angeles from New York City back in 1994, and she was recommended to me when she worked at a salon. Then she had her own place, Steam. And now, she is a partner in this salon. I have hair that is a total pain in the a$$. Wavy and curly in various places, plus a bizarre cow lick in the back. She has always made my hair look amazing. There have been patches where I decided to shave my head or get very short barber cuts. But usually, like now, I have long hair. And, once again, she has made me look amazing. I would never trust anyone else with my hair when I have it. LOL. But, seriously... remember the joke where a guy walks into a salon and asks the hairstylist to make them look good, and the stylist responds, "I'm a stylist, not a magician." Well, Carla is actually a magician. If you have problematic curly or wavy hair, especially let her take care of you. And don't forget to talk to Fernando or the other colorists Carla brought with her. They have been doing my hair for decades. Go!

LOVE this place!!! They are angels! My usual salon canceled on me last minute and this salon was kind enough to squeeze me in. From the moment I called the salon, I was treated with respect. Tats is truly sent from Heaven. He is a skilled colorist and extremely talented. Not to mention funny! He had me laughing so much which I needed. His assistant Amy is also a gem! She was so sweet and on it. From beginning to end, this salon is hands down the best. I'm so happy I found a new salon.

This review is about and for Gretchen. She is an empathetic, intuitive, and extremely skilled colorist! The best I've ever had, and I've been coloring my hair for a long (really long) time. Also, she is delightful to hang out with. The salon itself is pleasant, and I felt relatively safe--they actually ask to see proof of vaccination and everyone is masked.

I have gone to Harper salon three times. Each time I have left, while my hair looked okay, it was not what I had asked to have done. The first time, I booked a full set of foil highlights and a root touch up. I have some white hair. She described how she was going to highlight. She did not at any time say, I am not going to do a full set of highlights, nor did she say she was NOT going to a base. Gretchen did mention about blending it so when my hair grew out it wouldn't be noticeable. Honestly, I had not clue what she was talking about. But I did keep saying I wanted it blonde, and I wanted the greys covered, not blended, covered. At the end, she was taking of the cape I said, aren't you going to do my base? She said, "Oh, I thought we were on the same page when I explained what I was going to do..." I said, "no, I want the greys covered." She said we'd get it done next time. Clearly, we were not on the same page, because she did freehand "hair painting," instead of traditional highlights, which is what I booked and what I expected. I will also say that it's clear to me now that Gretched does your hair THE WAY SHE THINKS is best and not actually what you're asking for. I said it looked fine, but I was not happy, and honestly didn't want to say so, hoping next time it would be better. The next time I booked an appointment, I again, booked a full highlight and base. When I showed up they informed that Gretchen did not have enough time for a full highlight. But she promised me she would make the blonde highlights all the way around my face and the back, because I wear my hair up a lot. Again, I brought another picture showing how I wanted the highlights. I mentioned I wanted the highlights to my scalp. I said it looked fine, it was pretty, but, again, it was not what I had booked or expected. The next time I booked, again, a full set of highlights and root base touch up. I showed Gretchen another picture of what I wanted. I asked her to level up the base. I reiterated that I expected to have a full set of highlights as the last two times I had booked and not received. She did the base first. Then, she said okay we'll let that set. I was confused, as I have been having highlights for 20 years and they always applied the base and then did the highlights right on top while the base was setting. I asked her to do the highlights on the top over the top instead of down the sides. She said okay. I mentioned again that I wanted the highlights to go to the scalp. I mentioned that I do not want to have it look like "I'm growing it out naturally, and that I wanted the full set of highlights. After the base was done, she did the highlights in sections. Each of the times she also did something that I had not ever experienced before, and that was that she removed some the foils and rinsed the hair out. She did it in three sections. That was unexpected and I thought maybe that's why the highlights weren't as bright as I wanted. She blow dried my hair and styled it a bit. When my hair was down it looked good from the front. I didn't pull my hair back to check the hairline and I didn't check the back of my head. I said it looked fine. She said next time we won't have to do a full set of highlights. It wasn't until I got home that I noticed that the back of my head still had rather dark roots, the highlights did not go to the scalp, and the highlights didn't actually have much penetration into the darker roots. Each of the three times I showed pictures of what I wanted, and it was not received. I was trying to get used to the idea of the darker root base and it's not that it wasn't pretty, it's that it wasn't WHAT I ASKED FOR. part 2 to follow

This was the salon that made me like getting my hair cut again. Tomo is a god. My hair has never looked better. Tats is a skilled colorist. Dan does great eyelash tints. The entire staff is delightful and so thoughtful. I feel great every time I leave.

James has cut my hair twice. Though it's a simple style as I have long, straight hair without many, if any, perceptible layers (post blow out), I am highly confident in his abilities. Sometimes the simplest styles can get FUBAR by overlaying which ends up fraying my fine ends prematurely; James gets it right, period. My hair falls the way it's supposed to, even six months post haircut à la quarantine. Finally, I have found my forever salon and stylist!

I got the grays on my base covered to match my natural root color, and a toner mid length/ ends to reduce brassiness. the hair stylist ended up adding a step to the service without my consent, the end result turned out very good, but not very happy to find out at checkout about the extra charge incurred. However, the manager was very kind, fair, and understanding. She worked out something that was mutually beneficial. Happy with the service and, my hair turned out really good.

I came here for a major hair fix up. I got my hair cut and colored. I must say the service was excellent. The store was clean and the staff was friendly. They listened to my concerns and made sure they understood me throughly before they started my treatments. They also offered other services such as eyelashes and I decided to give it a shot. My eyelash extensions lasted me more than a month. The overall experience was just great for sure you cant go wrong here and I found my perfect salon. Not to mention they were very sanitary.

I just moved to the West Hollywood area and was looking for a new salon and stylist which is always a nerve wracking experience. I found Harper on Yelp and saw that it was around the corner from my spot. I got there and was in awe. The salon is so soothing, calm, and cute. I was introduced to Kareen and instantly knew I was in good hands. She is the BEST!! I had light golden blonde hair with my roots growing out and tons of split ends. I wanted to go back to my natural color and bangs. She listened to everything I wanted, super professional, and very sweet! My hair has NEVER looked this good. By far the best experience I've ever had with a salon and colorist/stylist. I highly recommend this salon and Kareen if you ever want a fresh new look without any worry or hesitation!

Came here for a balayage and ended up leaving with new eyelashes too! I had such a great Sunday morning chatting with the stylists and my hair turned out the perfect shade of blonde. I had never had eyelash extensions done before but Paige made the experience so easy and I loved the end result. Highly recommend!!

About two months have passed since I've had a couple of uncomfortable experiences at Harper (described in my earlier reviews) and I decided that it's not worth for me to come back. There are a lot of wonderful salons in Los Angeles and I'm going to find the one that won't make me feel under-appreciated... Let the adventure begin!

Gretchen gave me the best treatment I've ever had while getting my hair done. The color was the best I've ever had and exceeded all my expectations. Also, best head massage in town. I always go blonde and it amazes me how healthy she keeps it and how soft my hair feels after getting it done. Gretchen is the only colorist i'll be recommending to anyone from now on.

I was introduced to Harper Salon as I was walking around the neighborhood, about half a year ago by the lovely James, who is a stylist there. From the moment I stepped into the salon, I was thoroughly impressed. Behind the "Big Blue Doors" is a beautifully decorated and friendly staffed salon located in the heart of Melrose District. Greeted by friendly smiles and lovely personalities, you get all of the aesthetic of a chic LA salon, without the usual elitist attitude that accompanies a salon that styles celebs and trendsetters alike. Each time I've gotten my hair styled at Harper, I have walked out on cloud 9 and have received the best compliments about my cut and colour!! I literally could not be happier with my hair in the care of Nico, Nikki and Carla, the amazing salon owners. If you want the absolute best in hair care, style, colour and on point trend, run don't walk to Harper Salon. I refer everyone I know here!!

Two words: Erica. Dean. Erica is not only an awesome stylist, but also an incredible person. I am very picky when it comes to my hair, but all my fears dissipated as soon as I sat in her chair. She gave me a thorough consultation and used her magic to give me the most amazing summer cut to date! She is detail oriented, creative and incredibly personable. Book an appointment with her, and I promise you won't be disappointed.

I live in NYC and hadn't been home to LA in 6 months...but you bet your ass I waited to go home for THE ONE AND ONLY DAVID RICHARDS to color my hair. He is, without a doubt, a hair lord and the end result is always mind-boggling. You literally just need to sit in his chair and let him work his wizardry...it's always going to turn out amazing. BYE, JUST CALL HIM AND MAKE AN APPOINTMENT.

Philippe did the most fabulous job cutting my hair to frame my face. I went in on a whim and he is my new go-to for a hair cut! He listens very carefully to what you tell him you want and then walks you through what he's doing while he's doing it.

Philippe Polo is an artist. I went into the salon ready to cut off 7-8 inches of my hair (always slightly scary even if you're ready for it), and Philippe was nothing short of considerate, thoughtful and precise. I wear my hair very naturally (air dry, no products) and he knew exactly the cut to give me while balancing my personal needs and his artistic knowledge of what will/will not result in the look I was hoping to achieve. I live in Manhattan and have been extremely loyal to the same stylist for 2+ years. If I lived in LA, I wouldn't even consider going to another stylist other than Philippe. I'm now minus 7-8 inches of hair and could not be happier about the outcome! Additionally, the salon itself has a cozy yet industrial interior with a cool edge. They use Oribe products too which I love. 5+ stars for Harper Salon! This experience greatly exceeded my expectations.

I appreciate Harper Salon so much that I'm sitting down in their waiting room after my appointment to write about them. I found this place through a vague recommendation, and calls to Miami and New York. Ultimately, a legendary stylist recommended Nicole, who started this salon. I've come here ever since, and I love this place. My hairy ears and eyebrows are effortlessly and artfully trimmed by Dan McFadden. Nicole's talents exceed my expectations, and she's helping me develop my own sense of style. Nothing but praise for this place.

I am THRILLED with how Valerie cut my hair and styled it. I am in LA every 6 months and I plan to see her each time I am there. She made me look like a movie star. I told her to cut off what she wanted as my hair is very long. She just cut the dead stuff and styled it. My daughter had Matt do her highlights and we can't say enough good things about the salon and the both of them. While I have tried to get the look she created I just can't make it look as good. That is ok. They totally rock and we will be back at Harper in September. Thank you Valerie and Matt!!!

Ashley is the best with blondes!! And she is super sweet and accommodating. I've been seeing her for almost 2 years now.

Christine has been cutting my for about 10 years. This is the third salon I've followed her to, and I'd probably follow her out of town if she moved. She is amazing. People have stopped me on the street to ask who cuts my hair. I even had someone who worked in a salon in NYC give me their card to pass on to her in the event she wanted to relocate to NYC and work for them. She is that talented not to mention the sweetest person you will ever meet. I love the vibe of this new spot, and the girls shampooing give the best head massages ever. I'd come here for those massages alone.

EDITED: (I have fallowed Erica to Ramirez Tran Salon) I first noticed the ambiance and comfortability of the salon as soon as I walked in the big blue doors. Everyone was smiling and were so friendly; it was easy to feel at home. MATT did my color and it was delight to be in his chair! He was diligent, nimble and confident. I showed him a photo at the beginning of my appointment and it turned out exactly as I imagined. The time went quickly, as he was personable and easy to converse with. ERICA cut and styled my hair. It was amazing to watch her work; She exudes passion and performs with the utmost competence. After spending quality time with you and hearing your wants, she seemed excited to do her job and she did it well. Erica was easy to get along with and seemed genuine. I look forward to my next appointment!

I am so happy to have found Phillippa at Harper Salon. He just cut my hair, and gave me the most flattering and feminine textured bob. Best haircut I have had since moving to LA! He listened to what I was looking for and made it even better. He checked in along the way to make sure I was comfortable with everything. Everyone at the salon was very warm and polite. Will definitely be going back.

I've already left a review for this amazing business and my extraordinary stylist Erica Dean, but I had to drop another line for the best hair colorist in Los Angeles, David Richards. David has taken my sandy brown hair from bleached grey/white/champagne blonde to natural sun-soaked with absolute perfection. His knowledge of the science behind hair color alteration is unparalleled, and as if that wasn't enough, sitting in his chair is essentially therapy - his personality is so warm and welcoming. There isn't better in LA than this cut/color duo. Treat yoself.

I had a wonderful experience at Harper Salon and would recommend David to anyone looking for an amazing color! I originally got my color done by a woman I found on Groupon and the woman did a horrible job on the ombre. I was embarrassed to go to work the next morning with my hair looking so terrible, but then a coworker with beautiful hair recommend her colorist, David, at Harper Salon. I called Harper Salon, explained my hair disaster and they got me into see David that afternoon. The salon has a modern, industrial vibe, and the staff is fabulous. David is friendly, very experienced in coloring and made me feel completely confident in his ability to fix my hair. I'd recommend Harper Salon and David to anyone because I'm confident you'll have a positive experience!

Love coming to Harper salon to get my hair done. I come here for both hair color and cuts! Tomo has been cutting and styling my hair for years. He's managed to make me look great, despite my poor life choices in trying to perm my hair for three years straight. I highly recommend Tomo even for men. My guy cousin goes to Tomo now as well because Tomo does such a great job. Very reasonably priced for how good he is. As for color, I go to Leslie. She really knows how to color hair and is amazing! She's saved my hair from bad blond stripes and bad bad brassy colors from previous hair color treatments. I wouldn't trust my hair color with anyone else but her!!

I've been going here for a few years and love the results. Tots does my color and Valerie does my cuts. (I have followed her around to different salons for more than a decade and don't think anyone can give a better cut and blowout). My color with Tots is single process, but you wouldn't know it to look at it -- it shimmers in the light with natural looking highlights. Who knew brown hair could be so interesting!

BEST COLOR! David is a master of all things color. I've had my hair colored forever, and have just started receiving more compliments than I can count since discovering David. I really love the time and effort he gives me on every visit. I always feel fabulous after my appointments. He is a true artist and the sweetest human being.

I have going to this salon for many years- I see Val for cut and Tina for color. They are both amazing and I would recommend them to anyone who would ask. Although they are on Melrose, which can be challenging to park, I always find a spot.

The Colorist, David Richards, is perfection to me! I am a blonde that likes to stay blonde with added sparkle and pizzazz. David gave me blonde that is pure natural honey and sunshine. He is extremely talented and uses several techniques blended together to give you exactly what your heart desires. David is exceptional with his gifts and most generous with his time, attention, and caring soul. I feel confident in saying that you will leave the salon fully satisfied and delighted. Valerie Stoneking is the Stylist that cut my hair. She gave me a modern cut, a silky smooth blowout, and was kind enough to show me several different ways that I can style my hair. You can trust and depend on Valerie to give you the exact cut that you desire. Everyone at Harper Salon is very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I felt very cared for during my visit.

I fly back to LA from Oregon just to have Tomo cut my hair. He is super talented and a total perfectionist, which appeals to the detailed-oriented OCD side of my personality. I've had my hair long, short, and everything in between, and he's able to sculpt it to fit my weirdly shaped face (it's not round, square or oval - it's somewhere in between all three, if that's possible). I always get tons of compliments after a Tomo cut and style! I have so many issues with cow licks and baby fine hairs around my face, and somehow Tomo is able to make me look radiant and confident. I need the lowest maintenance hair cut possible since I'm too lazy to do my hair, and he totally gets that and works with my lifestyle. I somehow end up looking polished and put together without any effort. Completely worth the cost to fly back to LA. If you're looking for a new stylist, congratulations, because your search is over.

BEST HAIR CUT EXPERIENCE IN LA!!! From the flawlessly warm and welcoming staff to the tall glass of delicious Champagne that is placed in your hand (or fruit filled ice cubes in a glass of water etc) to the best damn hair cut of my life, Harper Salon has got me coming back every time. Most important is ERICA DEAN! Holy shit this girl can cut hair. I have gone to a lot of top notch people to cut my hair from Aveda to Vidal, but Erica delivers flawless perfection EVERY GOD DAMN TIME. Not only will you have the best hair cut of your life, she is the most pleasant, sweet, cool, easy to talk to girl you could hope to find. That, and she's gorgeous. I have been going to her for over a year now and most everyone I know now goes to her. So girl or guy, Erica Dean and Harper Salon is the shit. And that's just the truth

My home away from home, finally! Carla, Valerie, Tats, Fernando, and Sonia have settled into their newest, chicest nest. For the uninitiated, they are the epitome of being with the kool kids. Val and Tats are in charge of my head, and I get at least one compliment a day. I let them have free range with my hair. I have free range hair -- meaning that they can do whatever they want with me. How many women can say and do that with confidence? That's a big statement considering I come from Texas, The Big Hair State. Val is not a stylist, rather a sculptor. Her medium is hair, and her tools are her scissors. Tats is the master of color. If he wanted to dye my hair blue, I'd let him. But he has great taste, so that's not happening. He knows color, tone, and texture. Both are masters in their art. Every time I leave the salon, with a smile, I feel confident and happy. That's difficult to do in Los Angeles, where image and self-esteem are fragile commodities. You can't go wrong here.

I had the BEST wholesome experience at Harper Salon! First of all, have you seen this place? The salon itself is GORGEOUS. They're bright blue door is stunning and the interior itself exudes a sort of rustic, cool look that still looks professional. Next, I had David as my colorist and he is literally the best. Not only is he good at what he does (trust me), but he also makes you comfortable as he does his work. The whole time, I felt like I was in good hands! He explained the process to me whenever I asked and assured me that the result will be awesome (and it was!). The hair itself is breathtaking. It was my first time dyeing my hair and I was nervous at first, but David really understood the look I was going for and I walked out feeling like a bombshell! The picture (below) really doesn't do this justice, as it's absolutely gorgeous in real life! Additionally, my hair is still super soft even though it was bleached!! Overall, I was thoroughly satisfied with the service! All of the staff working there was super nice and I was treated like a QUEEN. The salon has a great ambience, great hairdressers and great service, what more can you want? I highly recommend this salon to anyone!!! P.S They have an ATM at the salon to grab some cash (for tips etc!), but for some reason my Chase Debit didn't work.

First of all, Harper Salon was AHMAZING! The blue door was so beautiful and the ambiance just invited you to go in. My sister and I had an appointment at 2PM and we both came in for a hair dye. We thought we were going to be late, so we called ahead to ask if that was okay. The lady at the front desk was kind enough to say that it was fine! My appointment was with Matt and my sister's was with David. Both were excellent and we were really impressed! Unfortunately, I had to run out right after the dye job and work on an unexpectedly messy issue so I was really sad that I couldn't say my thanks to Matt... Nevertheless, I definitely recommend Harper Salon!

Erica Dean at Harper is amazing. I've gotten my hair cut at trendy salons in NY and London but none of those cuts compare. Erica just knows what will look best on me and I trust her implicitly which is saying a lot because when it comes to my hair I am a gigantic pain in the butt. I enjoy going into Harper to get my haircut because I know I'll leave feeling good about my quiff. Erica is the best and I can't say enough good things about her. I should also mention that the atmosphere of Harper are fantastic. It's such a cool spot and the service from the assistants to the receptionist is always spectacular.

Ive been seeing my hair dresser Matt Kwansy for the past 6 years or so, as long as I live ill follow him so he's able to bless my head of hair. I have had every hair color and every method of extensions put into my head! Nothing holds a candle to the color and Skin weft extensions Matt's has accomplished with my hair! Ive had to start carrying around his business cards because of so many people asking me who does my hair! This is by far my most favorite salon ive seen him at! everything from friendly staff to the delicious fruit infused waters they serve you while your there and i cant forget the talented assistants that help out! (like timothy! :) Theres no other place id rather be getting my hair done in this town!

Harper Salon is great. Friendly, stylish, with a chill atmosphere. Erica is hands down the best hair dresser I've ever had! Her attention to detail and talent are why I will keep coming back. Love Erica, love this salon.
