Spacious, warehouse-chic restaurant with inventive cocktails and seasonal New American cuisine.
"Somehow this meeting has expanded to four people, none of whom you know very well, and you just got a last-minute Slack that a few of them is vegetarian. Harper’s Garden is the place to go. It’s big and has a spacious front patio, so you can take over a table on a sunny day or a booth inside and hash out this quarter’s strategy. When it comes to the menu, they have grilled butternut squash, potato leek soup, grilled shrimp sandwiches, and a lengthy wine list—which should also appeal to the group. " - candis mclean
"One of the most romantic date night options in the Restaurant Week bunch, Harper’s Garden is whimsical, intimate, and serves some of the most consistent New American cuisine in the area. Pro-Tip: Mix it up and share a combination of their seafood and various salad options." - Ernest Owens
"When: Monday-Friday, 4-6pm The Deal: $5 Beers, $5 House Wines, $5-7 Cocktails, And $3-20 Small Plates The outdoor space at Harper’s Garden is the perfect place to sit in Center City, look out at flowers and nearby construction sites, and contemplate the fate of the world (or the Phillies). Their plant-covered deck is coveted, especially for Happy Hour when you can get smoky wings, a double-stacked burger topped with Cooper Sharp, and a martini, all for a discounted price. "The main attraction at Harper’s Garden is its outdoor setup. Complete with hanging lights, overhead covering providing lots of shade, and more plants than a greenhouse, it’s one of the most scenic restaurants in town. All of their small plates, like roasted beets and pomme frites with creamy chipotle aioli, are solid, but we’re big fans of the pasta that’s served with garlicky calamari, red pepper, and seafood broth. Also, on a really warm night when you feel the need to constantly check if you’re sweating through your shirt, any of their tequila-based cocktails made with fresh fruit juices will at least help cool you down a bit. "If you’re spending your SIPS at Uptown Beer Garden, you definitely don’t mind a crowd. Harper’s Garden is also going to be crowded, especially on a nice night in the summer, but if you don’t mind waiting a few minutes for a table on their plant-covered deck, it’s one of the better places to have an outdoor meal around Center City. The wine list is long and affordable, and there are lots of small plates like kung pao squid and Moroccan lamb meatballs to share. Also, if you’re still hanging out at 10pm, they switch over to their late-night Happy Hour menu which is basically the same as having SIPS discounts all over again." - sydney mcelwee
