"Everything at Bar Jabroni feels set up for a meet-cute. This cozy Lower Haight wine bar (from the team behind Palm City) is where to sip on some funky wine and grab a few great small plates while mingling with strangers and potentially making some new friends (or lovers). This place is small, so you’ll play a game of human Tetris to get inside. You’ve got two choices: squeeze in shoulder-to-shoulder at the bar and make some new friends, or reserve one of the teeny-tiny tables. To dodge a wait, plan ahead and try to get an elusive reservation. photo credit: Carly Hackbarth photo credit: Carly Hackbarth photo credit: Carly Hackbarth The menu is short, all over the place (in a good way), and changes throughout the year. Despite many of the dishes being hits (like the fall-apart wagyu beef cheeks and decadent potato gnocchi), portions are on the smaller side—so don’t expect to have a full dinner here unless you’re planning on ordering the whole menu. Instead, grab a few glasses of wine, order a small pasta, and split a meat dish while you get to know your neighbors. After you’ve exchanged Instagram handles, head to one of the other great restaurants on Haight St. for a full meal. Food Rundown video credit: Taylor Gomez Wine All natural wine, all the time. What’s offered by the glass changes frequently, but we like the pét-nat and the vernatxa. The selection is curated enough that you can’t go wrong. photo credit: Carly Hackbarth A Bit Of Seafood There are some constants in life, like oysters and a crudo always being on this menu—they’re a solid choice. The larger seafood dishes, like the soft-shell crab, are just okay. photo credit: Ricky Rodriguez A Bit Of Vegetables Did you eat your veggies today? If not, go for it. There will be seasonal additions like stone fruit and a distinctive (and potentially polarizing) dressing like an anchovy vinaigrette. But if you had a salad for lunch, there’s no need to have this take up room on your already small table. photo credit: Ricky Rodriguez A Bit Of Meat Whether it’s a pork chop or wagyu beef cheeks, they nail their meats here. The wagyu and tender, and the pork chop is drenched in a perfectly paired tangy cherry jus. They’re bigger than the rest of the dishes, but still feel petit. photo credit: Carly Hackbarth A Bit Of Pasta Pasta is an essential part of a meal here. We love the dense gnudi served with sun-dried tomatoes and almond pesto. photo credit: Carly Hackbarth Something Sweet If you skip dessert, there’s about a 0% chance you’ll feel like you missed out on anything. If you have to get something though, order the fruit-forward choux and tres leches cake." - Ricky Rodriguez

I really enjoy this spot!! I’ve been here a few times, Billiards, surprisingly great pizza (crispy crust, good sauce) and a friendly crowd. Good variety of music from country to hip hop and a great environment, all along. The bar tender Janelle is always real friendly and it’s a real chill spot I enjoy hanging out, in. Clean bathrooms, too!!

This place is kind of a blast into the past if you ever went to a bar with your parents as a kid! They don’t have a drink menu and the bar tender got a little snobby when asked what they have! If cigarette smoke bothers you this is not the place for you as the air is pretty thick with it!

My local bar of choice. Service is prompt and welcoming, the regulars are friendly, and the prices are reasonable. I don't stay too late, but I know the crowds start filtering in around 10:39 - 11:00. If you like dimly lit and wood panelled bars, you'll feel right at home. Smoker friendly (with a cigarette machine), dart boards, pool tables, AMI jukebox, and karaoke on Wednesday nights.

I strongly suggest never visiting this establishment. Myself and a friend came here on the 29th of October, we had a great time with everyone we interacted with, we were then “escorted” out by a patron, not an employee, and accosted physically by this person. Another patron proceeded to come out of the bar, went to his car, and retrieved a baseball bat, which he then threatened us with while holding it over his head in a swinging position. At this point we called Martin county sheriffs, upon arrival they would not pursue the suspect, nor do anything more to investigate the situation. A bartender came out and accused me of “grabbing the microphone” of the karaoke DJ as their justification of them kicking us out.. no such thing had ever occurred. We strongly suggest never visiting this establishment.

Great bartender's and a lot of bar games but if you're not a smoker you're going to have a bad time.

Yelp
While at Harpers there were two bartenders. We walked in and waited over 10 minutes to get our first drink. Finally got our drinks... I have them the benefit of the doubt... Then went back up to the bar for another round and yet again, I had to wait ANOTHER 15 minutes for a drink. Mind you, the bar was not busy and there were two bartenders. Well, this is what happened for the next two hours. Finally, I went up at last call to order one last round, again, it took 15 minutes to get the lady's attention. By this time I'm PISSED! My bill comes and it's $60. I left 0 as a tip because the bartenders were TERRIBLE! I went to the bathroom, come out, and am confronted by the older bartender because I didn't give them a tip. I frequent dive bars a lot, and have never had such terrible service.
