Harper's Restaurant & Brew Pub

Decided to try this for my sons Graduation day dinner and it did not disappoint. Fun atmosphere! We probably ordered everything on the menu with our large party and it was all delicious! Service was great! Poor staff had to deal with a very loud nasty customer and still didn't miss a beat. Has to be said! You don't have to apologize for other people's ugliness. Even the younger people in her party could be heard staying behind and insisting on paying for everyone's drinks they'd had and apologizing for her behavior. Thanks Harper's for making our special day awesome! We'll be back!

Worst experience I ever had. It was my son‘s graduation. We went in with nine people. No one was there when we got there at 3:30. It took about 15 minutes to 20 minutes to get our drinks. He had to print off a new menus for us to order off of. We ordered and then he collected all the menus and took it to another table about six or seven people, we waited another hour and 20 minutes and then he came out with the other people’s food before ours and said he was waiting on a pizza for our order which we never ordered a pizza. Worst service I’ve ever had. I don’t recommend this place to anybody. Couldn’t even bring out our appetizers. So they lost my business and about $300 in a food order.

I should have listened to the Google reviews. It was at 3.6 stars. I went here because every other place had a wait and it was full of OSU fans on game day. $5 cover to get in and there wasn't even a band or anything. The gratuity is automatically put on every bill and they make you close out after every food or drink you order. Very odd. Bar tenders would take an empty bottle and not offer to refill it. Got the nachos and they were about the worst I've ever had. Like someone went to the grocery store and got the ingredients then dumped it on a tray and microwaved it 10 sec to melt the cheese. They do brew their own beer and the one I tried was decent.

Dj actually is terrible. Asked to play some songs. Tipped generously for a 3 minute song and proceeded to play half the song for that price. Drinks were also extremely expensive for no reason. The riv charges $6 for double shots and this place charges $20

Honky Tonk is a good vibe but they kinda let anyone in, personally had a kid (probably black out drunk) take my drink I set down and drink it. All their beer is inhouse, overpriced and taste bad tbh.(I recommend spartan lite if you like pbr ) One of my first times here they also tried to confiscate my legitimate Florida id

We didn't find out until we got there that this was a college bar. The furniture is nasty dirty and shabby, and lighting is awful. The food was lackluster (from the freezer to the fryer) and barely cooked/warm. We were one of three tables that had customers, the rest of the place was empty and they had multitudes of employees all standing around talking, so that may be why it food was cold- or they didn't fully cook it. They also automatically charge you 20% gratuity without telling you even if there is just two of you (some places do this for a large table but not a small one), so look before you leave a tip. The service was okay but I don't appreciate being forced to leave a certain amount as a tip, especially when it's above the standard. I want to gauge how much I leave based on the actual service. Their brews had great taste- the only positive in our visit.

Being kicked out for working at a “competing” bar is just sad and not a justified reason to do this especially someone who wasn’t doing anything wrong and is over 21. Very rude people who work here and the cleaning conditions would make you want to throw up. I’ve seen that kitchen and would not recommend a thing!

Went there a while ago and was served by a sweet girl by the name of Evelyn. Haven't seen her in a while. This was probably about three years ago. Hope she's doing okay. Haven't had as good of service since :/

We stopped by on a recent Saturday a couple hours before an MSU basketball game. Honestly I haven't been to Harpers in 25+ years since college and I had to laugh at all the bad reviews, because they pretty much detailed the exact service we experienced. We only stopped because some of the other places such as HopCat & ElAz were packed. Harpers was only about 1/4 full which was surprising before a weekend game. We were seated right away but there was one delay (and excuse) after another as to taking so long to get drinks & the order placed. 25% full was apparently an unexpected rush because we kept hearing how shorthanded they were. Anyway, I did post an extra star due to the host keeping us informed and taking the initial order, just to keep things moving. During our stay the table next to us had two groups back to back just get up & leave due to the crappy service. The food itself was good and no complaints there, but it's obvious that management has had no clue for quite some time on how to give proper service. Yes, it is a college town bar/brew pub but that's no excuse for such mis-management. We were lucky that we had an extra 30 minutes to spare or else we would also most likely had picked up early and left. There's just too many decent places in the downtown E/L area that do take care of customers and if you're looking to get proper service it would be best to try those other options.

Walked in at 7 Pm on a Wednesday. 10 staff members standing around the bar. Greeted by none of them. Walked to the patio. Sat down. Weird vibes. No one ever came to serve us. We left.

Ordered 2 margaritas for the $4 special. Came out $19.20 total. When I asked the bar tender why it was so expensive she said, "I had to specify I wanted the special." Then she quickly grabbed the receipt and moved on. Never had this happen to me at the Riv, Dublin, PT's, Mash, Lou Has, Tin Can, The Avenue, Landshark, or Rick's. For the sake of your wallets go to Meijer and get the ingredients for a margarita instead.

This place was disgusting absolutely gross. The service is awful and there was a hair in my friends food and something gross in the drink. My friend who wasn't let in was completely over the age of 21 and they took the ID without any reason and argued for it back. You can't just take someone's real ID for no reason. The ice is very gross too I really would think a place like this would be closed down already

Favorite college bar in the area. I've never had their food, and I've never been before 9pm so can't testify to that, but Many good mems and patchy mems from the heavy poured drinks lol. If you want a loud, fun, party hearty night out, go to Harper's. Quick service, good vibes. 5/5

Terrible service terrible food. Fries where old and cold burger was overcooked. Staff was more concerned with there phones than waiting on customer. Would not recommend

Great service, good prices. Better than average food quality for bar food. We were there in the early afternoon. The place was huge and we were the only people there. Service was excellent. It looks like it would be an awesome sports bar to go to pregame with big TVs everywhere and a no frills ambiance. For a fraternity party ambiance, go to Harper's.

If you're in EL this is the bar. Ngl if you're looking to party, drink or just hang out this is the bar to go to. If you haven't been to this bar in East Lansing yet go. It's dirty, gross, and amazing. You're welcome!

Gave me the worst service I have ever seen. Entitled beyond belief. Gave themselves a tip that I did not give them. Will NOT be coming back.

Had a terrible experience. A boy standing by the DJ threw his drink which got all over my face and clothes. I did not even have a drink anymore and some workers came by to kick me out along with four other women who had nothing to do with the situation. None of us did anything wrong, I was not drunk, & I explained the situation but they still kicked us all out. Will not ever come back.

Worst bar experience ever. Got dragged out because I was talking to my fiends. Bouncers have no composure and no reasoning, Overall straight up a holes, food is even worse, drinks are basically piss water.

Came here for a meal before a MSU basketball game. Food was mediocre, the in-house beers were good (enjoyed the Dr. Feelgood the most). This place is definitely for nightlife rather than a food, I'm sure my experience would have been much different as a student post-game.

The service was pleasant and the beer not bad. Food was kind of blah. Nobody in our party ate the house chips, onion rings or fries. Not sure if it was the missing gluten but it was definitely missing taste. Turkey club was warm and decent. If being honest, probably won't be back.

What an absolute joke. This place was the most overpriced, disgusting bar I've ever been to. Underage people everywhere, cover charge, expensive drinks, sticky floors, dirty tables, atrocious bathrooms with no stall doors, disgusting area behind the barkeepers. The attached photo of my credit card charge ($23.40) was for a vodka/Red Bull and a rum/Coke. Just two basic mixed drinks. The bathrooms are awful. The men's had no stall doors, puke/blood/urine/feces on the toilet and floor. There was standing water all over the sink and floor, and no paper towel. The only way they're able to stay open is because they allow underage patrons in, so they are forced to spend way more and deal with way worse. Never again will I come this this dirty overpriced crap show.

So this was our third stop on our impromptu little trip to Lansing. It was a Friday afternoon and it was quiet as can be. That's fine we were just coming in for a beer. The bartender was very sweet and helpful. This place is huge! I can imagine it gets quite crowded on the weekend. Looks super fun. There were booths that had their own taps attached!! Crazy!! I went to school locally and none of my friends went away so I have never experienced college bars or parties. But I bet this place has seen it's share. Haha. We didn't eat here so I can't comment on the food. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back. Probably cuz I'm old.

If you give this place anything higher than a 1 star your lying to yourself and everyone else. This bar sucks. They don't even know how to make drinks they just throw trash in a cup and call it "cats pajamas" yeah like I'd order something that stupid. Floor is always sticky because they never clean if. Bathrooms are disgusting. Food sucks. And Jason P you only gave this place a 5 star because you work there you tool.

Lol, let me guess. The bad reviews are because the bouncers took your fake ID? Hold my beer why I laugh some more. Harpers has been taking fakes since the 90's son! Also, apparently Jose takes all the ID's? Jose is instafamous, it's like he is the lord of all bouncers. So if you know this, and Jose is out to ruin your night, go somewhere else. But if you do get in have fun, enjoy the watered down beer and mediocre food, and dance the night away with your side piece. Or is that what tinder or grinder is for, I don't know?

If I could give them a negative star review I would! 6:02 the night of the bar crawl and you charged me $10 to get in even after I paid for the stupid shirt! It would have been different if the music was good, but it was absolutely atrocious and then you included the tip in my $20 bill? Automatically 20%! That's a joke because my "double" wasn't even a single! I'll never come again.

Worst food ever! So bad! We saw at least 4 different workers vaping in the building. We paid 40 dollars for food that is worse than The national taco chain. It should have stayed Dooly's!

Workers are some of the rudest people I have ever encountered (literally have seen a guy try to fight a student for no apparent reason). Not to mention the place is utterly disgusting. Toilets are flooded half the time and will get shit water all over your shoes. NEVER toilet paper. Takes 10+ minutes to even order a drink that's weak as hell. Staff egos are ginormous and they will find every way to be nasty to customers. I would say on any given night 90-95% of people are underage. Horrible establishment it's beyond me how this place is still running.

Food gave me food poisoning and I was down bad for a couple days. Also they let ANYONE in. Like the amount 17-19 year olds I saw running around was insane. Cops don't do anything, their new ID scanners are a joke.

called to reserve a table a week in advance for the lions game today, they told me no it's first come first serve. got here at open and have been sitting for over 2 hours and now and just got kicked out of my table for someone else that had reserved it. even tho we were there for hours before. absolutely ridiculous.

I feel like this is what you would just expect from a college bar.. super packed.. impossible to get a beer.. thats why people order pitchers of beer. I don't get the 1 Star reviews.. maybe it was that bad.. idk.. but Actually the pizza was pretty good! Our first time here it was pretty dead so it seemed like a normal restaurant but we also went on a busy night and it seemed like a whole different place! Super packed shoulder to shoulder.. drunk people yelling and bumping into you, spilling drinks.. rude bar staff and very difficult to get a drink.. The highlight tho.. Someone literally left the Biggest turd in the women's toilet.. I must say I was more impressed than grossed out! This thing literally touched Both sides of the bowl! Yes, Both sides!!!! Lol. do NOT waste your time at this place unless you want bad food and a beer-like beverage. There is nothing wrong with the help except they are stuck serving inferior food and drink. Ambiance is a joke.

Fuck this place it's literally the worst. All they do is let underage people in and sell the worst the worst Food. The food is moldy sitting una. They take old most food out of the fridge and serve it to people.

Would rate 0 stars if I could, very racist, I am a mixed race black man and when I presented my Id they rejected me and when I asked for it back they tried to give me another black man's ID and called the cops to kick me out of line entirely. Very weird experience, no good music here either 0/10 bar

The owners Pat and Trish have repeatedly been overheard calling people the n word as well as ordering their bouncers to deny entry to blacks or charge them ridiculous cover charges. Many blacks who are allowed in are given a 2 drink limit and are forced to wait longer for service than those who are white. Hennessy, Patron, and rap music have been banned and employees who bring in black friends are routinely fired. There have even been cooks who have tainted black people's food with bodily fluids after their food was asked to be recooked since it didn't live up to their satisfaction. There are rumors circulating that BLM is planning on having a mostly peaceful protest outside of Harpers in the near future and force Pat and Trish to take a knee and make a public apology based on their racist policies.

HORRRRRIBLE HORRRIBLE SERVICE. These workers do not know how to pour their drinks. I stood there sober watching them continuously pour drinks that they claimed were doubles but had the quickest 4 count you'll ever see which is only a shot. And they charge this for $10 including a tip for themselves. An inspection must be done and workers must do better if they are charging so much for a simple drink. Management has to at least do some pour tests on them. So unfair and staff is not nice about it either.

Ducked into this restaurant because the other place we were planning on going to was over an hour wait. We had 8 in our party for dinner on a Thursday, and also a Michigan State basketball game night. The place was basically dead. Maybe 6 other tables. On Thursday they had advertised $2 burgers which also came with fries. The majority of the table ordered the $2 burgers, the patty was tiny and some of their food was cold. Another ordered the veggie burger and it too was $2 and was a lot bigger and actually filled the whole bun. 2 of us ordered salads and the ranch dressing was watered down, however my salad was good, picture attached. Beer was good and also cheap so that was also a plus.

Lots of fun, great service, cover is a pain, gets a little crowded, but overall excellent fun and good drinks

Usually decent but on honky tonk night your dj played only slow ass songs all night it was depressing, literally the last country night of the the semester and y'all have this lame ass dj playing love songs to a drunk crowd at 1am. Dude literally sat on his phone and didn't take a single request the whole night like my guy the crowd is telling you the right songs to play and you just shuffle some bs playlist gah damn.

Worst experience ever at a college bar. You would think on college football Saturday you would have college football games playing. No. Let's watch MLB instead and not any of the major games playing. After many attempts to request putting some college games on we left. Was here with my son visiting for MSU and will never come back here again.

I was there one night and the bartender swiped my card for my drinks and someone else's and I got charged an extra $22. I tried to dispute it with my credit card company but Harper's fought the charge and now I am stuck with it. I also can't get ahold of them because they never answer their phone and I have called numerous times in the last month.

That had to be the worst restaurant experience I have had. Disgustingly dirty, standing water on the floors, bathrooms so filthy they are unusable...and the was at 5:00, before the crowds arrived. The hamburgers were slimy and had a gross texture...how do you ruin a burger? Cute on the outside, but run the other way! This place is too filthy for words!

I was on a family road trip on the way back from New York. Had to stop by and see an old friend in East Lansing. Making my way back to Beatrice, Nebraska we stumbled into Harper's. I must start with the unreal service I had from Daniel. He's the man to go to! Great drinks, good laughs and a stand up guy. Would drive all the way back to have a drink made by him. The food was alright but nothing to write home about. Good atmosphere and just a fun place to be! Hope you see this Daniel!

I love Jose. I love vodka sours. I LOVE harpers. I Honky Tonk is unforgettable. A class act bar.

Walked in and bartender stared at us instead of greeting us. Took the server 10 minutes to come over. I can deal with that when it's busy but there is only two other people in here.

I wanted to give this place five stars only for my Memories as a grad student at Michigan State, but since the evolution of breweries and the growth of the market, I was in able to given the lack of flavorful and robust and hoppy pale ales that I tasted it; However, my boyfriend was extremely pleased by the two unique features that he chose. And, we were both pleasantly reminded of the awesome college prices for holiday beer and holiday food as we were there on a Thursday where bears are $1.50 and a burger fry combo is two dollars. On top of that, the wait staff was incredibly attentive and friendly.

If I could give this 0 stars I would. The doorman wouldn't let me in and he told me I had to pay $1K to get in!! In a college town? That's insane, I'm not in New York. Also, he told me my nose is way bigger in pictures than in person...

Horrible service!!! Food was okay but not worth coming because you might never get the food. There were about 10 workers standing around. Only one woman actually working but had the worst memory. The other employees were flirting with each other and making themselves drinks. I have no idea how this place makes money.
