The 17 Best Burgers in Houston - Houston - The Infatuation

"There’s no membership fee or dress code at this country club, which is more of a hamburger-dive-pool-hall. But Harrisburg Country Club in the East End also serves ice-cold beer—an essential item since there is no air conditioning. Everything about the quick-griddled burger here is fairly standard—sesame seed bun, iceberg, tomato, pickles, and raw white onion—but when it arrives, neatly wrapped in white parchment, it feels special and nostalgic. Order a burger and a side of crinkle-cut fries, then chat up the handful of neighborhood characters over a few beers or a round of pool." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene

Google
First time at this place. It was a very good burger. Nice sized burger and patty. Good onion rings. Only issue was halfway through the burger I bit into a small bone and hurt my tooth. Other than that, great burger and would definitely return.

Google
My ex-husband used to go to this place religiously may he RIP. The Vietnamese gentleman that answered the phone was very rude uncooperative and barely spoke English much less understand. I will not be taking my business to this place. He lost a very big party with much much business! You must have too much business to take on extra. Good luck.

Google
Man talk about a find. Stumbled upon this driving by. What a great burger place definitely coming back

Based on reviews and Google, I thought this would be one of the best burgers in Houston. IT'S NOT. I don't know who thinks these are the best burgers around. Literally all of their ingredients, you have at home. Nothing special. Cheap ingredients. Tomato cut like a door stop. Like 4 onion rings that came out of a bag in their freezer. For $18 dollars?!?! No thank you. Not to mention it's not easy to get to with the train in front and the 50 year old decor doesn't help much. If you want a legendary Houston burger, try Champ's or Hubcap Grill. Peace. Love. And Patties.

Google
Perfect hole in the wall for the east end! Cheap beers with not much of a selection, but they are ice cold! They have a little kitchen with burgers, blt’s, onion rings and tots and fish sandwiches, steak fingers, grilled cheese, and other bar style grub. Watched a DQ ad on the local news playing on of the three tv’s here while eating my burger and the menu reminded me of them, sans ice cream! I’ve been in the east end for almost 3 years and have seen this place, but finally made the stop by and I realized I’ve been missing out! I forgot to take a pic of the burger, it was too good to stop eating. Right off the train line too.

Google
really a divey spot, but if you want a locals dive bar with 3 dollar beers, this is your spot. did not try the food but it did not look special. overall would return.

Had 2 bacon cheeseburgers tonight with tots and onion rings. Delicious homestyle burger and the sides were nice and crispy. The service was friendly and prompt. I will say this is a dive bar in the BEST way. Just regulars chillin on a first name basis with the bar tender lol. People spoke to us and were welcoming, which was nice. The place was VERY CLEAN, like literally the bar counter and floors did not have stray piece of trash, nothing was sticky, and the ladies' room was also clean and stocked. They do take credit cards and have pool tables. The only ding I will give is that they only serve beer, no liquor or wine when I was there. This is only an issue for me because I can't really drink liquor. But if you're a regular beer person, or you want a good burger, definitely give them a visit. We will be back.

Google
Cons: The place doesn’t look clean maybe it was just me never been to a joint like it . It was flies and naps there 🤦🏾‍♀️. Whoever was preparing the food didn’t have gloves on . Pros : the food was delicious Despite how it looked in there . The people that worked there maybe the owners was VERY NICE 😊 . They was warm and welcoming. Okay so we order three burgers kids just had regular cheeseburgers n I have a bacon cheeseburger with everything on it . The kids got chips (small bag of chips ) and I got onion rings (delicious) with a Dr Pepper , Powerade, and a can drink 34 dollars . I will not be returning but overall the food was gooooood .

Yelp
LOVE THIS PLACE! Total dive bar right on Harrisburg, in an upcoming area. While the outside appeal may not be enough to drive you inside, their burgers should be. Juicy and delicious burgers, add tots, fries or even delicious chicken wings to your burger. Service is great and food is served quick, hot and fresh. Your bottle will always be replenished and the family running this joint will recognize you and are super friendly. I've been here for both lunch and late evening dining times and have yet to be disappointed.

Yelp
This is a pretty good place and the burgers are pretty decent. It's old school decor has not been updated in a long time but it's relatively clean. They do nickel and dime you there are no combos everything is sold separately if your cool with that, but all in all it's a good place to eat to get something simple no frills or thrills just pretty good food

Yelp
Delicious food and great customer service as always. My favorite place for a cheap beer and burger , hands down!

Yelp
Harrisburg Country Club is an adorable neighborhood gem! I've passed this place hundreds of times and finally decided to stop by. The prices are unbeatable, and the food is great for fast-casual, counter-service burgers, dogs, fries, and a few Asian dishes! There are TVs and pool table. This bar is pretty much beer-only... no liquor or wine, really. There's plenty of parking and the location is right off the light rail. We will definitely be back to visit this local, family-owned spot.

Yelp
Used to go there back in the 80's when it was a convenience store/ice house and they cooked the best burgers, they were delicious. Could eat and drink beer on the picnic tables inside. It was a treat to go there for lunch. Worked down the street for 40 years.

Yelp
Two stars for how nice and friendly the owners are. Very good people. As for the food: I recently tried a cheeseburger from Harrisburg County Club. While the place has good yelp reviews, I found the burger to be rather mediocre. The patty was juicy, but had minimal flavor. The toppings were your standard fare -- which didn't add any extra excitement to the burger. Overall, Harrisburg County Club was an average experience.

Yelp
Great burger joint. The old school feel takes you back in time. Lone star beers, Astros games, and jukebox music. We love HCC!

Thomas M.

Yelp
It's okay for a quick lunch. I would go back if I want a good simple burger and tater tot's.

Chelsea M.

Yelp
What a cute hidden gem!!! Food was great! The guy behind the bar was so incredibly nice. It's so chill! The tater tots and burger were great! You won't be disappointed

Yelp
This place is rad. Jukebox. Pool tables. Owned by the sweetest and kindest Vietnamese couple. Best hospitality I've experienced in years (maybe bc of covid but they are awesome) and BONUS they have homemade Chá Gio (fried Vietnamese egg rolls) amazing burgers , and all the other bar snacks you can imagine.

Yelp
Don't get me wrong, I love dive bars, but when we went in for a beer I just didn't like the vibe. It was kind of dirty and I really wasn't in the mood for a bud light so we left. I haven't had one of their famous burgers, so maybe that will change my opinion????

Yelp
Bud Light comments... Its Houston, its hot, any beer will do. 1 star? Place is a family owned no frills place. Eat Frito's and drink a long neck. If you need tums, they have them too. Wth do people think is a dive...a junky place with a great Jester King selection ? Don't expect much and enjoy cold beer and good conversations. Just had one about a crippled cat that loves rum but hates vodka and not sure if the storyteller actually owned a cat.

Yelp
I've lived near this place for about 2 years now and I've been bringing everyone I know here since and it never fails... they're always so impressed by the food, service, and laid back atmosphere. If you aren't looking to be impressed by a posh Houston bar and you appreciate a good hidden gem, you will love this spot. Best home style hamburger i've ever had! I love this place.

Yelp
Been here twice now. Stopped because we were hungry. First time got the fish sandwich my friend got the chicken wings. It was a all good. Second time, I got the BLT and my friend got the burger. A little heavy on the mayo on the BLT, but the burger was good. The people were friendly both times. Second time the regulars were coming in. Very friendly folks. People stopping by for their after work beer. I'll be going back. I'm not big on the fast food but when I get the need for it, I'll be going back there. It's better than any fast food chain., and it's nice to support the locals.

Yelp
I really like the authentic dinginess of this divey bar/burger joint. That and the name Harrisburg Country Club. The other reviews are lush with nostalgia, which I appreciate. But I stopped in just for lunch to see for myself, and had a bacon cheeseburger with fries. My bill for that and an iced tea was $9.60--which seemed a bit much for competent but unexceptional pub grub. It is next to the new light rail expansion down Harrisburg, so maybe the prices are anticipating a new class of clientele. The Harrisburg County Club has a great name, an old icehouse vibe, and the most industrial, postmodern-movie vista of the Maxwell House coffee plant a block down the road. It's a precisely non-pretentious place to relax and maybe get a bit rowdy, but nothing exceptional to Yelp home about.

Yelp
Well, my days at the Country Club are pretty much over. #1BF! and I have moved to Austin, gotten married and grown-up jobs and health insurance, and don't spend nearly as much (or enough) time lingering over beers and fried food in dimly lit bars. We did happen to be back in the old neighborhood while attending TEDx at U of H, and I insisted we head over to the Country Club. Seriously, who would pass up cheladas and chicken fried steak for boxed lunches and awkward networking? I was ecstatic to see nothing had changed. Literally. The bartendress was wearing the same bedazzled princess shirt as the last time I was in. The same three old guys in MIA and VFW trucker hats were camped out, cackling over their budweisers at Maury Povitch. There was still clamatto in the fridge. And the food. Oh, that sandwich. Hot, crunchy, chicken fried steak with cold, crisp lettuce and tomatoes. Thick, high yeasty bun - perfect for taking the greasy beating a sandwich like this can dish out. Onion rings lightly battered and fried 'til tender, not overcooked and booger-ish. I'm glad to know that the Country Club really is that fantastic, and that it's not just the glow of nostalgia. Now, to figure out an excuse to get over to the second ward again...

Yelp
Meh, its better than it looks but that's not saying much. Literally empty becides our table.

Yelp
Do not eat the food here! It's so garbage I got a double cheeseburger and fries I wasn't told we're separate. And a flat Pepsi. $11 one of the patties was a comeplwte different size than the other. The cheese tasted old. And the fries were about 20-25count....come on. The girl seemed sweet. Asked me everything checked up but forgot to mention fries weren't with the burger. So to see a $6.50 burger turn into $11, the meal be terrible, well cooked, but Terrible. I was upset I left half of all the meal and the whole soda. I won't ever return to this spot. I barely had any money left from what just happened with the storm I asked for a burger that's it. You can tell they price cut on every single thing they could.

Yelp
I've never actually been inside the Harrisburg Country Club, but I have gotten it to go. The only thing I ever eat there is a cheeseburger with tater tots. They are fried just right. When I come to work slightly hungover, this meal takes care of that.
google avatar

Yelp
The prices are reasonable. The burgers are awesome. They do have a kitchen that serves a variety of bar foods. There are pool tables available and a juke box. The bartenders are very friendly. They have a limited selection of drinks but if your not too picky then you will be fine. It has its own parking lot. They do not a have minimum on credit cards. The regulars there are friendly people.

Yelp
I live 4 blocks away from there and during IKE my power was off for 131/2 days. They had power and I went there a lot to eat and drink- you can not beat their prices. The folks were friendly and I met alot of interesting people. They make the best burger in town. It is an icehouse and a great place to hang out and drink!!!

Yelp
Not much to look at BUT definitely one of the best hamburgers/ cheeseburgers ever, fresh hot french fries, crisp on the outside soft on the inside. Can't wait to try the chicken sandwich. The service was friendly and large tv played the news and sports.
