The Best Day-Drinking Bars in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"Harry’s is a quiet neighborhood dive bar, a low key alternative to the hubbub of other nearby drinking establishments. Regulars adore the jukebox, cheap drinks, and laid back attitude of this no-nonsense, no-frills, cash-only watering hole, where dogs are welcome inside and out." - Beth D’Addono

Dog-Friendly Bars and Patios in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"So before she went to doggy heaven, a certain Westie named Ruby was often spied drinking chardonnay at the bar, as in on a bar stool at Harry’s. That’s just the kind of place Harry’s Corner is, a French Quarter dive bar for the rest of us, furry drinkers included." - Beth D’Addono

Harry’s corner is a really fun place to be around and the vibe here is amazing. I decided to try this bar on my last day in Nee Orleans as their drink prices are pretty cheap and worth the buck. The Bartender also recommends you to try out new cocktails and they do not disappoint. Recommendation: Sazerac and Ghostbuster

Google
Great dive bar with affordable drink prices. Come in on Monday for Paul’s Red Beans and Rice. Free of charge with a beverage. Feel free to leave a fat tip. It is worth it!

Fun neighborhood bar to get casade at! Has a vibe 🥰

We stopped in on the last night of our trip and loved every minute of it. Our bartender Paul was such a fun and welcoming host with lots of history and stories to share and he mixes up excellent cocktails. Several locals popped in and out while we were there and chatted with us too. It’s a great spot to take a rest and enjoy an old time neighborhood hangout. We hope to come back on a Monday to try Paul’s red beans and rice and another Grandma’s house cocktail! Thank you for closing out our first trip to New Orleans on a high note!

Belinda our bartender was awesome! Super welcoming and had great advice on how to navigate New Orleans!

Google
Great little dive bar. Around 5:30-6 on a Friday it was not too crowded and we were able to sit and enjoy a local beer. Service was great, bartenders were friendly. $5 local beer on tap in a plastic cup-you can’t beat that! Also, outdoor seating along the street was available and the indoor space had big fans going and windows open! Parking is just street parking or maybe there’s paid lots somewhere?

Was just gonna stop by for a quick beer. But no, stayed for 3 Why? Because this place is awesome, that's why.

Google
A great local hole in the wall bar in the heart of New Orleans. The bartenders were super friendly, and they made awesome mixed drinks. Definitely will go back again.

Yelp
CASH ONLY! My group of four, with a little more time on our hands than we expected to have (we did some walking tours earlier) wanted to sorta wing it and burn our time hopping from one bar to the next until we hit a finish line of some sort. Got off a trolley ride and walked. this was the first spot we hit, so eh. Why not! Like most bars in the general French Quarter area, it's a no-frills kinda place. You come in, grab a drink to have there or take out, and you're done. Good selection of music. Bartender was pretty quick getting to us, although they were slightly busy. She must have been tired, though, because she gave me too much change back when I paid for our round. I made sure to give to correct this, though, because I would have for her to get in trouble if she came out short. We probably spent about 15 minutes and bounced to the next. Wasn't bad for a first!

Yelp
Dusty little dive bar in the French Quarter bartending by a couple of old farts, but they're amazing dudes. The service was good. I liked how fast I got my drink even though it was quite busy. I don't think they had any food but if they did, I'm sure it's awesome. I look like they do live music in there. Maybe I think I saw a stage. I'm not sure I'm the worst sometimes but at least go in there and talk to the bartenders.

Yelp
Our ghost story tour took us here. Super fun bar for your hydration needs. FYI it's a cash bar. They have an old school music jukebox, which we fed, 3 songs for $1.00. As it relates to dive bars, this is a solid stop. #CHEERS

Yelp
While in NOLA with my friends for our friends 40th, Harry's Corner became a kind of home base bar. It was recommended by a FB group for reasonably priced drinks. On the second night in NOLA this was also the rest stop place for our ghost tour which is where I discovered the "Ghostbuster", one of their signature cocktails that is topped with a boozy ghost shaped Jello-Jiggler. OBSESSED. I can't exactly place the cocktail...but it tastes like a Mai Tai meets a Pinâ Colada without being too sweet, but strong, refreshing and tropical. My friends and I kept going back to grab a drink to go, use the restrooms, take a load off before continuing on our way. On our last day there which was my besties bday, we met Paul. He made my friend a special birthday cocktail with a Candle in it and the whole bar sang happy birthday to her. It made her feel SO special. Paul was a doll and if I lived here, Harry's would be the spot I'd come to after a long day for a tasty drink without extortion. Be aware though, this is a cash only bar. An ATM IS located inside however. It's divey, it's vibey, it's affordable and the bartenders are not putting on airs with their kindness, humor and vibe. Every single bartender here we encountered in our numerous stops here were your neighborhood bar type of friendly, fun and ge This is the kind of bar you want to go to when you're not looking for pretentious tourist traps, where you can feel that sense of community even in a tourist heavy city. Go here. Get a Ghostbuster. Tell Paul we say hi and we'll be back!

Yelp
Happened upon this old time corner bar and happy I did. Drinks only, no food. Great Bloody Mary and great margarita. Not tourist prices or quality. Worth the walk. Cash only.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic crowd, good song selection on the jukebox. They have a seasonal drink called the ghostbuster which includes a little jello ghost- jello lovers should indulge. Lovely spot to meet locals and have a jolly ol time without the chaos of Bourbon St.
google avatar

Jennifer F.

Yelp
Cash only locals bar on Chartres. Since it's cash only, the crowds are usually light. The bartenders are really nice, possibly a little chatty and easily distracted. Bathrooms are decent by French Quarter standards. Definitely cheap, definitely old school including a cigarette machine and a juke box.
google avatar

Yelp
We were in NOLA the weekend of Feb 2nd, 2024. We were looking forward to spending Saturday exploring the French Quarter but unfortunately, the day started with a gentle rain and proceeded to become a raging downpour throughout the day. Fortunately, we found Harry's and we couldn't have landed at a better place. It's a true neighborhood bar. Unpretentious with an overdose of friendly bartenders, patrons, and even a self-described witch. The vibe was perfect. The atmosphere is low-key and welcoming. They have a fantastic old-school jukebox in the corner and the liquor offering is everything I'd expect. We loved spending the day in our new favorite bar away from home. They may not know your name, but they're glad you came. Protect this gem of a place. It beats anything Bourbon St has to offer.

Yelp
Super fun bar. FYI it's a cash bar only so take plenty of it. They have a old school music box. So fun!

Yelp
Classic dive bar off the main touristy streets and had very obvious regular local clientele. Service was polite and the bathroom was clean. Only stopped for one.

Patricia N.

Yelp
I know it is a dive bar but bad service; rude bartender and not welcoming. If you want southern kindness you won't find it here!!!
google avatar

Angela W.

Yelp
I am just not sure how to rate this place.......at first I thought that this is the place to go if you want to get away from the tourists....it's just a quiet place to watch ball games and drink. However in hindsight, hubby and I had two Bloody Mary's in rather small plastic cups. We think we were drugged with something like a date rape drug. We lost memory of our next 6-7 hours. Luckily for us we were staying with friends who live a few doors door from Harry's and they showed up and basically babysat us for the remainder of the day. I have my suspicions that the bar tender was working with some one else and we were targets for something bad to happen but I can't prove that. I only know that after drinking two Bloody Mary's I had memory loss for 8-10 hours and that has never happened to me before. I am no stranger to vodka and regularly have two martinis with no problem. Scary!!!!

Yelp
This is a great little "dive" bar. We got caught in the rain and popped in here. Strong drinks and friendly crowd. Try the Hurricane!

Steph C.

Yelp
There's nothing like a good dive bar with a great bloody. The bartender was efficient and friendly. We will return at the next opportunity!

Kaytlyn W.

Yelp
Trent was amazing. Super friendly and quick with the service. It was nice to see a patch from my hometown up on their bar! Will come back.

Truedell I.

Yelp
Amazing duck off!!!! Paul is the best bartender ever!!!! It still has the old school cigarette machine and juke box!!!! The drinks are the best and inexpensive.

Yelp
Harry's is a New Orleans style dive bar. What does that mean to someone not familiar with that style of dive bar? Sorry bro. You'll just have to figure that out on your own. Actually, if you frequently use the word bro in conversation, you probably want to avoid this place. No bros allowed. No woo girls either. Stick to Bourbon Street. I guess woo girls and bros are technically allowed din a Nola dive bar, but I suspect all the reasons they don't like it, are reasons I do like it. I would have never found Harry's were it not for being led here by another Yelper. This was our post event hang out spot and all the cool kids were there. Here is what I liked about Harry's. The windows were open to the street. That meant random could ask our group for food recommendations while we sat comfortably at our table. There were video poker machines where kids could sit while their parents bought drinks. There was a jukebox that had the Rolling Stones. The Stones are always a good idea when in a dive bar. There was a lot of funny graffiti above the urinal trough. There was not ice in the urinal trough which was kind of dissapointing. Drinks seemed like they were pretty reasonable, especially for the FQ. I had water which was no charge except when I got a bottled water and it was $2. Nothing wrong with cheap drinks. Service was fast and friendly. There were several ghost tours that stopped in to use the bathroom and fuel up on booze. I guess Harry's is supposed to be haunted or something. We did have a ghost shake, then toss, my empty water bottle on the floor. I guess whoever it was took umbrage to me only drinking water. Sorry ghosty, a boy has to drive. If you find yourself in the FQ and want a nice dive bar experience, Harry's should be on your list.

Yelp
This is a nice little dive bar close to Jackson Square with fairly large, heavy on the booze, and the people are nice. There are also tables outside. It's just a neighborhood bay and a terrific place to go.
google avatar

Kamilah S.

Yelp
Very inexpensive drinks. We had a long Island, Mimosa and 2 shots of tequila. The waitress free pours the shots, love her, no 4 count pours for us, lol. I love the first responder patches that are lined up all over the walls and the ceilings. Its a nice place for a quick drink, to beat the heat and cool off.

Dr. Albert B.

Yelp
Had a great time here. Bartender was very attentive. Drinks were good. Crowd was good. Nothing to complain about.

Nickolas H.

Yelp
Bartender was very rude. He tried to say it was an "operator error" when we tried to play music on the jukebox when I wasn't even drunk my friend was and I said it's not an "operator error" and then he mocked me under his breath like I couldn't hear him. The bartender needs to lay off the roid rage.

Lorissa J.

Yelp
just had the best relaxing drink at Harry's. very clean very local nice vibe. quiet not crazy and all around a great dive. happy it was monday - free red beans and rice YUM!
google avatar

Ethan K.

Yelp
Drinks were ok. Bartender was too busy talking to her friends at the bar to acknowledge us or take our order. And when she did take our order, acted like she was doing us a favor. Drinks were also overpriced. Plenty of other bars in the city to enjoy. Don't waste your time.
google avatar

Holly L.

Yelp
Great local dive bar. It's CASH ONLY. They have an ATM machine. They also have a few casino game machines.
google avatar

Rick C.

Yelp
If you like hole-in-the-wall dive bars like I do, this is the place for you. You know when a canned beer reaches that perfect temperature at which there is a tad bit of slush in it? That's what I experienced here. Perfect for a hot day.
google avatar

Jen L.

Yelp
Solid old school bar in the FQ. Cash only. Do not expect a fancy drink. Buy a beer or a straight pour. I love the bartenders who have seen it all and do not want to put up with your nonsense. They remind of the folks who tended the bars that my Gramps brought me into as a kid (no my Mom didn't really know). Low key (unless a Saints game is on). Prices are good for the FQ.
google avatar

Cookie K.

Yelp
Okay so I've been walking around Nola all morning with my dog and she's hot. Of course I'm thirsty and not for water. So I randomly walked in here and ask first whether or not they were dog friendly. And they were! They have a water bowl and treats for my baby. Only thing missing is some music. But everyone here is great!
google avatar

J P P.

Yelp
A near perfect Dive Bar in an overlooked location in the French Quarter. The perfect oasis when you had your fill of every cheap thrill Bourbon Street has to offer. This is my first Abita of the day and "last call" before I say nighty-night!
google avatar

Dee I.

Yelp
Blonde bartender was really rude to my friend and I. I wouldn't come back here unless you want to deal with average drinks and bad attitude. I don't recommend this spot.
google avatar

Erythr S.

Yelp
Omg cheap, great, lethal, great drinks. Omg. I never had my Manhattans under 10 an a hella strong. Made my night at bourdon street great!
google avatar

Marielle S.

Yelp
I'm going to just lay it on the line: the bar is cool, but the drinks are overpriced. Way overpriced. $8 for a beer you can get for $5 elsewhere overpriced. Look, I'm not a dope. It's the Quarter. You're gonna charge what dumb tourists are gonna pay. Can I show you my Louisiana ID and get a discount? Even if it's just a buck off? Seriously, we are on the same team here. We're all friends. $15 for two beers is a little much. It's water and barley...don't get arrogant. Other than that, this place is cool. Cool people and cool staff. Just don't rob me.
google avatar

Robert P.

Yelp
Good old fashioned joint, good for tourists and locals. Authentic atmosphere, kinda divey. Had a decent time here.
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
This place is grade-A badass. Cash only. No bullshit. Great bar staff. No frills. All sorts of a good time. The beers are cold and cheap and what else could you ask for? A must stop off the main crazy bourbon strip. So good. So much fun. Make it happen. Order two beers at a time...trust me. It gets going and that's a good thing. You will thank yourself for at least stopping in and checking it out. Solid spot. One of my favorites.

Foodie F.

Yelp
I heard it's a great spot if you're a local, but if you're not they're just so mean here. I was so excited to visit here but was treated with curt and unfriendly treatment. There are so many bars in New Orleans where they're happy to have you and welcome you. This is not one of them.
google avatar

Joi B.

Yelp
A straight-up comfy little spot, Harry's Corner is worthy of its iconic name. If a bar is named Harry, it has to be good or it needs to change its name. Simple as that. And *this* Harry's, I like just fine. No bells and whistles here, just a Quarter corner bar with seasoned bartenders and cheap enough drinks. I've been in here when packed (Halloween) and empty. Empty is preferable if you're feeling *old and cranky* which BTW is a state of mind that I do my best to avoid, but sometimes it's inevitable. On that note, I shall create a list of my favorite bars to hit up when in that OAC state of mind...
google avatar

Tina C.

Yelp
Cool old school dive bar. Super nice bar tenders, fantastic service! Patrons are so friendly. Local and old, the bar that is. Perfect place to stop to wet your whistle, especially on a hot day, a/c is awesome!
google avatar

Kellie M.

Yelp
Every time my husband and I come to New Orleans, we make it a point of coming here for a drink or two. We call it The Dog Bar because every time we are there, one or two of the locals have their dogs there. Chewie, doing his best impression of Eminem in 9 Mile wearing a hoodie was there the first time. The last time we were there (June 2009) it was two beautiful huskies. The prices for beer (draft and bottle) are amazingly affordable. Harry's is exactly as Zachary said "a quiet little neighborhood bar in the French Quarter". Lots of the French Quarter tour guides bring their tours in but they are usually in and out and it is good for business. The only complaint I have about Harry's is that every time I've been there I've been passed over for up to 15 minutes while the bartender(s) have waited on numerous locals and regulars before me and then turned their back on me to clean the back counter, etc. I guess you need to build a relationship with them before getting the service of a regular.
google avatar

Alma M.

Yelp
$3 beers and fast service, you can't go wrong. Restrooms are clean. Jukebox has much old music but it fits the vibe of the bar.
google avatar

Jacky R.

Yelp
I'm rating this one star because I don't really have a choice. The old lady that works as the bartender during the day, SUPER rude. Don't even try to go in there if you don't already know what you wanna drink before you step in. Repeatedly reminded me, before I even sat down, that I HAD to have a drink when I had told her more than once that I was thinking about what I wanted, she was so annoyed that I didn't know she said she needed a drink. Easily the worst bartender I've ever encountered in New Orleans.
google avatar

Nikki G.

Yelp
Stopped in during a quiet time (daytime lol) for a quick beer. Cash only but they have an ATM right inside by the gaming stations. Friendly bartender and seemed to be a couple of locals stopping in too. Also, by the door there was a couple of crockpots of free food. That day, it was bean chili and rice!
google avatar

Robin L.

Yelp
I'm gonna give this a 4 star but we've been coming here for years and we have lost all our old connections. Still a great New Orleans hang but I do miss the old school music on the jukebox. No Neville's , Meters, Louis.
google avatar

SockMonkey I.

Yelp
It's ok. First drink is good - after that - it's a bust. They obviously support law enforcement by all the patches. It's worth a stop

Jentri T.

Yelp
Blonde older bartender was extremely rude, took her own tip out of my change without asking and put no alcohol in the drink 10/10 don't recommend

Jason K.

Yelp
Stopped by for a beer, free rice and beans on Monday . Outstanding great place not a tourist trap
google avatar

Carrie B.

Yelp
My daughter and I stopped there for a drink and the lady was rude and complained the whole time we were there about working there. Atmosphere was cool but the service brought the experience down.
google avatar

Jade W.

Yelp
Lisa is a AWESOME bartender!! Cash only bar. Great drinks, good prices, & a great atmosphere. Has a local/dive bar feel. Hipster free zone! Huge plus its only a block away from my hotel.

Gennifer T.

Yelp
I was happy to see Harry's busy when we went down to the Quarter Saturday afternoon. We were celebrating our anniversary and decided to to keep local and walk around to the places we went when we dated. I have enjoyed slipping into Harry's in the past to escape weather or crowds, but sadly it has changed. Not only were our drinks in the smaller cups, they were filled with ice- more ice than drink. My well vodka and cranberry was $11.00? My husbands single jack and coke was made the same way, also $11.00? We might not be daily regulars, but we will not be going back. I suggest you do not encourage local bars to rip off tourist, because that was what this female bartender thought we were. It was a special day and I didn't want to make a fuss, but I won't recommend Harry's like I use to. I don't approve of places that have "tourist" prices. I wish we had the male bartender, but he was engrossed in happy conversation. Shame on you Harry's.
google avatar

Gracie C.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this bar. It's a local's bar and I felt that it was an accomplishment when I got the bartender to "like" me. Okay, that may be silly but I used to live in touristy towns and you really do get tired of tourists and their neediness and silly questions. Therefore, when I got here, wearing my Charger's jersey, I knew what to expect and I could tell the bartender wasn't really going to spend much energy on me. "Challenge Accepted!" First off, I don't ask "dumb" questions, I don't demand his attention, and when I do ask a question, it's when he's available. He is running a bar. I never had to ask for refills, he checked on me in his own way and by the end of my short stay, we had talked. Granted, it was about football and where to go, etc. as well as other things. It was just a good feeling. The people were nice, everyone was friendly, and the drinks were good!
