The 10 Best Breakfast Spots In San Diego 2024 - San Diego - The Infatuation

"This family-owned coffee shop has been serving breakfast for over 60 years and remains a perfect slice of old school La Jolla. Known as a locals hangout, the place buzzes with regulars reading the newspaper in their beloved bar seat during the week. On weekends, you’re likely to notice families checking out the black-and-white photos of San Diego hanging above their leather-cushioned booths. Their standout dish, the B.W. Benny, brings together a bunch of typical breakfast foods for something great: a golden-brown bacon waffle is piled high with poached eggs, grilled ham, creamy hollandaise, and a drizzle of maple syrup for good measure. It’s a diner we wouldn’t mind spending all day in, but they’re only open from 7am to 2:30pm." - sabrina medora

Really good acai bowls and hazelnut latte.

Google
My dads softball team was sponsored by Harry's market in the 70s. If they won a game the owner would let them have a case of beer after the game. I don't know about now but this little market has roots in mission beach. LETS GO HARRYS MARKET "HOMEMADES"

Google
This place has everything you need in such a small place. Very friendly guy maybe owner working the counter. He helped me pick out sun burn lotion for my son. Came back a few more times and each time was a pleasant experience. I didn't notice high prices like some of the other reviews. Maybe that's just expected for the convenience of being right by the ocean and not having to drive into town to get stuff. One area for improvement is rent or buy a power washer and spray the sidewalk down first thing in the morning. This sidwalk is so nasty that it makes the stores all on this block feel like they are nasty. Who would want to eat at any of these places.

Google
Starbucks walk-up window was closed so we got drinks at Harry's Market,... and they were BETTER THAN STARBUCKS! Perfect Iced latte and my daughter got a smoothie and we both loved them. And a side note, the sandwiches are Boars Head deli products which are the best! Didn't order one, but we will in the future. The guy helping us was nice too!

Friendly staff and yummy smoothie.

Google
This store is the worst I have been to in the US. We bought cheese sticks for kids. $1.5 each!! In the second day we realized the cheese are all expired 2 months ago. We retuned you the store and they gave us only $1 back for each cheese. The worse thing was that they put the cheese sticks back in the fridge to sell to someone else. Most things are expired in this store. There is a big grocery store 20 min walk and we went there for our shopping. Cheese stick was $4 for 12, that is how much over priced this place is, and that for expired stuff!

Google
Best little store at the beach! Fair prices . They don't up charge like other stores and they have the nicest caring staff. The owner is awesome. Be nice to them and they will be nice to you! I'm a local and there are a lot of rude tourists. .. . Just sayin

Michelle harris

Google
They over charge you on everything even if the fridge door has the price marked. The clerks all over price even if you tell them. My item was 2 for four. When he rang me up he verbally told me $3 dollars but the price came up when he scanned it for 2.79 after tax. I gave him a $5 dollar bill and he only gave me back 2 dollars. When i questioned him he became agitated. And asked me for a penny and told me im helping you out... No sir you just ripped me off. Even if you use EBT they charge tax they are not supposed to charge tax with EBT...

Yelp
I come here before work for coffee and a bagel sandwich ever morning or even for snacks. Great service and great food. 10/10 recommend!

Yelp
Service was good. Prices were absurd though. I know prices for everything have gone up and they're in a great location but sometimes when you're cost prohibitive you're doing yourself a disservice.

Yelp
Perfect beachfront location! While direct parking will probably be hard to find, Belmont Park which is just steps away has free parking. Harry's is a little convenience store but what caught my eye was the smoothie stand. I didn't even have to enter the store to order. I got a strawberry pineapple smoothie which was delicious--and quite affordable since they used real Welch's juice and fruit rather than pre-made mixes/concentrates. It was $4.95 for a small (16oz) cup. Where I'm from, that would have been $7 or so. I was expecting higher prices since it's such a touristy area but I was pleasantly surprised. It was out quickly and tasted great too. They take credit cards but there's a $0.40 surcharge for transactions under $10.

Yelp
I was looking for a quick lunch after a walk by the beach and luckily passed by Harry's Market. You would expect a market on the beach to overprice everything, but that is not the case here, sandwiches and smoothies are very reasonably priced. I believe you can order from the window outside but if you do go inside they have fresh fruit, pre made sandwiches, and other quick options to grab that aren't on the menu. My sandwich was quickly made, everything was fresh, and tasted great. Love that they offer non-dairy smoothie options - strawberry banana was good. The service was also good - friendly staff!

Yelp
Best ice cream ever! It's cheaper and yummier then that gelato place down the street. The best ever!

Yelp
Great food, fast and friendly service. Would definitely visit again. You cannot go wrong with this location.

Bill D.

Yelp
I don't know who owns it now but back in the 70's,Harry used to give hungry people a free sandwich, fruit & water. Couple times he gave us kids $to get back home because we had spent all out $ at the old Great Scott's arcade center on the Boardwalk. Great times & a belated thank you to you & your ohana!

Virginia H.

Yelp
Harry's Market is Awesome ! Love the fish sandwich. Coffee nice and strong. Plenty of products!! God bless you Harry and your business

Yelp
This place is trash - our $130 bill (we came to this convenience store to buy alcohol for the weekend) was "accidentally" rang up as $285. I walked into this place with 3 of my siblings. We typically come to this location for all of our snack/drink needs during our beach trips. We come to PB at least 4-5x a year and literally come here every time. This time was frustrating to say the least and I will never come here again. We got a Jameson bottle, Crown Apple bottle, 4 tall cans, a puff bar, and a 24 rack of beers. Now I understand I'm in a tourist location and prices are noticeably inflated in addition to us buying a few higher priced items.....however $285 for 8 things is INSANE. I obviously said something to the cashier when he told us the charge and he told me he "accidentally" rang up 3 Jameson bottles and an extra 24 pack of beer and thanked me for noticing. I find it super hard to believe you misrang the most expensive items 4 TIMES. He probably thought we were young dumb tourists that wouldn't notice he doubled our charge. Luckily I'm not a moron and realized our price was wayyyyy off. Never comin here again

Yelp
Grass mats, plastic buckets and shovels, paddleball, Styrofoam coolers--these are the kinds of things you'll find at Harry's. After you nab one of the parking spots in the Belmont Park lot, you can stop by Harry's for all the last minute crap you need before you head to the beach. Fact: the beach is boring unless you have tons of beer and useless crap and maybe even some stupid games like horseshoes or Frisbee.

Yelp
Waited for about 15min for two 32oz Açaí Bowls. Once they were done with it, they gave my two açaí bowls to someone who didn't even order açaí bowls. Very disorganized. A mistake that could've been prevented..Now I'm here waiting, again, for another 15mins for another two açaí bowls. Did I mentions it's not worth it's price?

Yelp
The family owned store always has friendly people to assist you. Their coffee is awesome here and is clean for the most part. Their prices are fair for a tourist spot! They have a walk up window to order things if you do not want to go inside. They also sell fresh fruit for those of us who want to make a healthy purchase and always have water on sale! I love Harry's Market! The only complaint I have is they charge to use your credit/debit card .50 a transaction.
google avatar

Jason K.

Yelp
My wife and I come to mission Beach for two weeks every year and remember going to Harry's for a morning paper for about the last 30 years, ever since I was about ten. They remodeled a few years ago to add more beer fridges and a deli and a window to help customers walking by on the way to the beach. It is pretty slick! They have a great beer selection, a little pricey, but you are paying for the location and convenience I am guessing. The guy behind the counter is super nice and quick. He always says "Hi" and has a smile on his face most of the time. My "Go to" beer and newspaper store on the beach for 1/26 of every year.

Tristan B.

Yelp
Who ever was working charged us 2x the price of whatever we bought because of Apple Pay. Twice. Pay cash so they'll tell you the price before you buy. They're low for that

Yelp
This "market" is horrific! I moved locally here 2 months ago & go in here 5-6 times per week. The same people are working here day in & day out. I use my credit card a lot of the time. No one has bothered to learn my name or acknowledge me when I come in the door. Tonight, I finally asked them if they recognized me? They didn't respond so then I asked them if they spoke English? I asked another question & one of the employees stated "I don't give a s**#. I then asked who the owner of the market was - both employees stated they did not know. Really? You don't know who your boss is? Then one of them stated "he's in Europe & won't be back for 4-5 months". Funny, I went to the restaurant next door & spoke with the GM who said the owner was there almost every morning. Needless to say as convenient as this place is, I won't be going back. Prices for everything are outrageous & customer service is horrible
google avatar

Eduardo U.

Yelp
They don't scan your items, just come up with any price ending with 98 cents. I won't be shopping here again.

Jacob M.

Yelp
Worst place every they robbed me and my friend today a Gatorade and 1 bag of gummies for $6...the guy at the counter lied....first he said 3.50 and the. He put 6 dollars on the card reader. Scammers.

Jonathan G.

Yelp
Great experience at Harry's. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by the gentleman behind the register. The beer I was looking for seemed to be out of stock. When I asked the cashier he went out of his way to double check in the cooler and luckily they had a few more in stock!
google avatar

Sam A.

Yelp
I was there in the morning and the guy he is very nice and the price was fair be in at the beach
google avatar

Natalie R.

Yelp
Great staff. Always helpful. Never overcharge. Best little store in Mission Beach! I wouldn't go anywhere else!

Yelp
The smoothie I ordered was watery as hell.. i thought i was drinking a horchata. The New York sub was just okay. Service at the deli window was kinda slow, I guess cuz they're also tending to customers at the store counter inside. Two people behind me got fed up with waiting and left, while I was waiting for my nasty ass smoothie/horchata. I didn't go into the actual store yet but I will save that for my next review update.
google avatar

Luana S.

Yelp
My husband and I always stop here to get cafe mochas and snacks when we come to the beach. I think the prices are reasonable. The mochas are usually very good. The taste isn't always consisitent but it's always hot and good. If you want liquor, they have an good selection. There's tons of snack options, chips, fruit, yogurt, ice cream, candy, etc... I haven't bought any sandwiches from them so can't comment on that. They have a lot of cute souveniers.
google avatar

Mel S.

Yelp
Ordering through the random window on this Mission Bay Blvd convenient store for SURE made me think "Is this safe?" But their giant pretty sandwich boards with darn good menu choices convinced me to stay. As did the fact I was so hungover I did not want to talk one more step to find breakfast. Luckily, Mango Peach smoothie I got was absolutely fabulous! Not too sweet or too icy, full of fruit and delish. The Vanilla Mocha Latte was too sweet, probably would have been GREAT as an iced drink. The bacon egg & cheese on an english muffin was DISGUSTING. The egg looked like it was burned in places because there was so much salt and pepper. I could not eat more than 2 bites. It was like I bought a salt lick for $3.99. Thank GOD I could share my hubby's $5 foot long Turkey Sandwich on wheat. That was bomb!!!! Really perfect and hit the spot. My friend got the onion bagel with ham egg and cheese - so salty she couldn't eat it, and my other girlfriend got a tuna sandwich and that was so salty she could hardly stand it as well. Since the one guy that worked there took for FREAKING ever serving me and my 2 friends (he had to serve a line of 15 or so customers inside his convenient store), we browsed inside and noticed the beer, alcohol, wine...well all prices were outrageously expensive! The guy needs to get his $hit together, take all the orders for the group, make all the sandwiches - he wasted so many minutes of my life going back and forth and back and forth OMG die.com Amazeballs - Mango Peach Smoothie is sunshine in a cup Bummer - long annoying wait, SUPER salty sandwiches.

Alex R.

Yelp
Explicitly rude the two occasions I went to this store this week. Gave me grief for attempting to pay with my card on one occasion and denied my ID on that second occasion of walking in there (though accepted it the first time). I believe their lack of nearby competition has allowed them to provide close to no customer service.

Dickie M.

Yelp
These guys are jerks. I've been to this place more than once and because they have ice cream it's a nice place to get a snack when you just happen to be in Mission Beach. Today I went in there and ask them for a chocolate milkshake they gave me a giant cup of chocolate milk I'm like this is not a milkshake this is not thick and creamy. I don't really actually like complaining but like this is just wrong so I went back and they made it again and it was even worse. These guys need to go into Baskin and Robbins or Swensen's or any ice cream parlor in America to find out how to correctly make a chocolate milkshake. You just add a little bit of milk to the ice cream so that it can be blended into something Smooth you're not trying to create chocolate milk. Fools

Yelp
I would give this place five stars but Rodaeo (sp?), The guy who works mostly all the time, is lazy and doesn't check the stock for expired products ha ha ha ha everytime I bring something up he's like it's no good. Lol! I live right there so I go in about 3 times a week and rodaeo is awesome. He's teaching me hebrew, no joke!!

Yelp
this place always got my back when i head to mission beach because i always forget something. the prices are great especially when it comes to beer. remeber vote no on prop d!... help your local small businesses just like harry's market serve your needs

Marie Claire S.

Yelp
Went in here in 4th of July to purchase 2 cups, a tall man in 30's was so incredibly rude and condescending! He charged me $1.00 per cup thought it was funny. He then said for you 2 cups for $1.98 he was then becoming threatening, I felt he was very aggressive and I felt threatened. Do not recommend anyone go into this market ever especially woman! I have told as many people as I know to boycott. Who acts like this!!! The people I was visiting said they have incidents in there all the time.

Luis V.

Yelp
If I could give this a 0 I would. The people here are extremely rude, impolite, and not educated right. Tonight a couple of my friends and I went into the store to buy snacks and we walked into the alcohol area because the whole store is alcohol basically. We were looking around but we were being careful and the guy tells the girl that we're playing around. The girl started giving us an attitude and my friend was like "sorry are you talking to me?" And the girl responds in a bad tone saying "why would he be talking to you?". Like freak if you hate your job quit it but don't be a dick. We left after but I asked if she worked here and she said no and later I saw her behind the counter so obviously she does and I just called and the person gave me their names and she does work there.

Sunny E.

Yelp
Ok people here it is...this place is your average tourist trap. But! Everything you need is offered for the beach as far as snacks & elegy options at that. Quit complaining about what it is. The rent is probably Preeeetty high here, so yes..the prices are going to be a bit high as well..get over it or go to wal mart. It is what it is. Anyway, their large selection of cold drinks has always taken care of me & all of my family & friends. I have enjoyed a sandwich or two & no..this isn't Von's deli..no its not set up like Subway. There will be a wait and no it's not the best..but you're at the beach! If you wanted gourmet you should have planned your day properly. All in all this is the best, Cleanest again, cleanest spot to stop in for snacks at the beach. I appreciate this place & will always come back for more.

James M.

Yelp
What a joke. The gut behind the counter could or would not utter anything over 2 syllables. First time didn't even put his mobile down or acknowledge us. Just rung up price and put his hand out. Foolishly we went back for water and this time unable to stop shoving food in his mouth. Rude grub. Go around the corner to the one next to Luigi's Pizza. This fellow is awesome (can't recall name of market tho)

Anthony G.

Yelp
Fucking nasty ass tuna sandwich...the food taste like its been sitting for weeks

Bridgette W.

Yelp
Coffee!! I went in thinking I'd get one of those instant lattes from 7-11 but I got a freshly made espresso latte that was amazing. Not burnt and very smooth. Perfection

Lisa M.

Yelp
Man you guys have to check out this store, it's remodeled now. I was expecting to see the old store as I was walking in and my jaw just dropped as I saw the drastic renovation it went through. IT LOOKS GREAT!! I went in to get some beer for a little gathering we were having and I realized that they now sell LIQUOR! Could this place get anymore convenient?? They have everything, whether you want a coffee or a mocha, a bagel or a sandwich, fresh fruit or a smoothie, they really got it all, veryyyy convenient place!

Jill R.

Yelp
we were at harrys market last wk for the first time. the potato salad was a wk old. the place has nice things for tourtists but everything is dirty or dusty Jill R
