Yelp
* Mandarin speakers want to practice English (and reduce their Chinese accents)? * English speakers want to learn Mandarin? * Nerdy Chinese folks want to bring friends and have a fun, FREE "outing" in Boston just talking with nerdy strangers in English or Mandarin? Participants SHOULD at least enjoy good conversational listening skills in Mandarin Chinese and equal or better conversational listening skills in spoken English. Tuesday evenings - 6:00 - 9:00 pm (may arrive up to 30 minutes early) 6:00 - 7:00 pm - Bilingual introductions 7:00 - 8:00 pm - Bilingual speakers - topical talks in BOTH languages - a few sentences in each language, then a few sentences in the other language - so that learners in each language can understand the ideas in terms of their original language. TWO (2) 30-minute speakers (usually with PowerPoint). Q&A follows each talk. 8:00 - 9:00 pm - Break into small Mandarin-speaking conversational groups 8:00 - 9:00 pm - Native Mandarin-speakers who want to practice English skills go to another room to practice English. We are recruiting weekly bilingual speakers who are skilled in BOTH Mandarin AND English: we have commitments through September 3rd. The stable location is in Kresge 201 in the most gracious and globally conscious Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where health-conscious and energy-conscious building and curriculum modifications have been made. Attendees need to register IN ADVANCE to get an HSPH building permission for the night. E-Mail LMA_Mandarin@YMail.com to register your intent AND sign YES on this meetup. Request building access by 4 pm Monday, the day before the Tuesday evening event. * Harvard Square to LMA is about 30 minutes on #66 bus or the M2 Harvard bus. * Green Line E-Line comes to the building. * Walking from the Orange Line takes about 5-10 minutes. * Walking from Brookline is about 10 minutes. * MFA, NEU, Wentworth, and Colleges of the Fenway are adjacent. * Route 9 comes right into the area. * Street parking is FREE from 6 pm onward.

Yelp
Strange meetup with a strange control freak organizer, M. Went a few times. M. likes to cross-post with other meetups, the other meetups don't like it. Results in getting way too many emails about the same meetup, or as M. likes to do, include other activities not related to learning mandarin. When I objected to him about how his crossposting results in my mailbox being flooded he removes me from the group. Anyway a few years back this was a popular meetup with up to 40 people attending. But due to their strange behavior they're lucky thet they get the few people they do. Also checkout their meetup page, M. talks about how other Mandarin groups like him or not. Weird.

Yelp
I've been to this. It's ok. It's not a business or school. It's organized under meetup.com as Boston China Interest Network. Be advised the first review is not really a review per se, but is the self-promotion of the organizer.
