"Harvest has roots firmly planted in community. The grocery and foods shop began as community project in which a members of the local neighbourhood determined the use of the site. The 38 Best Restaurants in Vancouver | Eater

"Acclaimed chef Andrea Carlson (Burdock & Co.) and Gabriella Meyer’s community-based eatery/grocery in Chinatown is one of the best spots in the city to slurp down noodles, including the candied bacon ramen, which is hangover-banishing heaven in a bowl. You can also pick up pantry essentials, such as frozen packs of Carlson’s superb pork and burdock dumplings, heirloom apple and vanilla bean sauce that makes an ideal ice cream topping, and picnic-ready local cheeses, dips, spreads, and vegan puddings." - Nikki Bayley

wonderful little place. needed a quick snack- didn’t want something packaged but I also didn’t want a whole meal. they have little side salads for $5 which was perfect - the one with kale and hazelnuts was so good. served in a really beautiful bowl too they have gorgeous produce (and CSAs) and some carefully curated local goods like condiments, snacks and natural beauty products. i wish there was something like this near me!

In 2012, Carlson opened Harvest Community Foods - a local foods grocer and ramen bar that focuses on transparency and sustainability. Andrea Carlson came on board as a consultant at a new local grocer, the idea for which had been crowd-sourced, as had the name. Just a few months later the consultant became the owner of Harvest Community Foods. The grocer became more than just a retail store operation. They threw in a simple menu of ramen and udon options, most around 12 bucks. Before you know it, they stuck oil, and it drew a crowd. I came here for a walk with my friend. The store front doesn't look anything special, but once you walk in, there's alot of charm, and alot of products. From grab and go items, in house kombucha, vegan puddings, non gmo items, and gluten free deserts like living lotus. We ordered 29, the butternut squash miso ramen. It was indeed good. Then 39 came, the pork with candied bacon ramen... The flavours were everywhere. Yes it did taste good but don't be expecting a true Japanese style ramen. This is not the place for it. Harvest gave it their own twist, and nothing is wrong with that because it was still tasty and comforting. The vegan caramel pudding was omg so good. I could eat it for days! Service is still 100% fantastic. Our server was kind enough to grab a table and 2 chairs for the both of us, since my dog was crying outside tied to a parking meter. Overall, I love their retail grocery store. I would love to spend more time here again and try other items!

Google
Genuinely one of my new favorite go-to places! I had ordered the Green Curry Rice Bowl and it was truly one of the best meals I had thus far in Vancouver. The quality is unmatched and I absolutely LOVE that they use seasonal, local produce. Couldn’t recommend enough — cannot wait to come back and try more items!

Delicious seasonal warm udon bowl. Perfect balance of flavours. Can’t wait to come back and try more menu items

Google
Chill and relaxed atmosphere with a spacious and spread out interior. Harvest offers Good wholesome noodles and a small mart of premium 'local' groceries sourced from around town. Noodles are freshly made to order. Flavors aren't bold and out there, but sometimes you are just looking for some simpler flavor profiles made with good quality ingredients, and this provides exactly that. Quick points, come if you want something cooked well, and in a straight forward fashion with good quality goods and to relax in a chill and open atmosphere that is unusually quiet for a Vancouver eatery!

The food here is what I would make to impress someone. I would be considerate with ingredients, textures, healthy veg, technical finesse, and include at least one extra-points surprise. I ordered the ramen with dumplings and just inhaled it, while deconstructing in my mind how it was prepped. The dumplings were fresh, filling tasty. I saw two types of leafy greens: bok choy, Taiwan cabbage. Not only was there tender enoki mushrooms but crispy julienned wood ear mushroom. The broth had depth and character, like liquid gold with a whisper of chili oil. We happily slurped every last drop of broth out of respect. (10/10) The chocolate chip cookie is life changing, with large chunks of chocolate and crunchy granules of finishing salt. Yep, the chef and baker here have a love affair with food.

Very delicious! I got their special bowl. So yummy and what a filling portion. Also, strawberries are in season and they have such a great curation of local goods and friendly staff.

Google
I was pleasantly surprised by this place! I’m really into ramen and am very picky. I had the pork/miso ramen and the buttery flavor was phenomenal. It had pickled burdock in it, which I’ve never had but it worked very well. The ramen only came with about a 1/4 cup of broth, which I thought was unusual and perhaps accidental based on others’ photos. I’ll definitely come back to try other items. The store also has a great selection of local items for sale.

Yelp
Solid spot for vegetarian and vegan modernized-Asian noodle soups. I did an order over the phone on a Friday late afternoon for their vegetarian ramen ($12.95 plus tax) and kale goma-ae ($5 plus tax). My order was ready 15 minutes later. Their vegetarian ramen by default comes with ramen noodles that contain egg, so to make it vegan, you can sub rice noodles or udon; I did the latter. The goma-ae was solid, though the kale was on the tough side. The hazelnut sesame sauce was really good though. I think they can do a better job with the consistency of the kale, but it's a relatively minor gripe. 3.5/5 The ramen broth was heavy, with a very squash-dominant character; very rich and overly salty, but quite satisfying. Other than noodles, you can a bit of greens (pea shoots?) and some radish. This could be toned down on the saltiness and have a more interesting array of toppings, but it was solid overall. 3.5/5 Overall, solid casual spot for non-traditional Asian noodle soups.

Yelp
Get the "#31 - Rice Noodle dish with almond hazelnut sauce, charred chili, and greens (Vegan)" and ask for less chili if you want it mild. It has set a new benchmark for nut-based noodle dishes and I will be back to get this specific dish again. Go go go!!

Yelp
The Dark Chocolate Sea Salt cookie had minimal sea salt taste and not much dark chocolate in the cookie. The staff did not greet me when I walked in and it was awkward. The cook looked unfriendly. When I asked about the honey, they didn't know anything about it. They should care about customer service because it is a tiny independent store. Also, if they want customers to return, the staff need to be knowledgeable about the products. Nevertheless, there is still a sense of entitlement from the unprofessional service.

Yelp
Totally recommend getting #31! Do not get intimidated by the hazelnut sauce! Peanut sauce works in savory foods and so does hazelnut sauce. It totally reminded me of Dan Dan noodles. If you like dan dan noodles (and don't mind nuts) I think you will like it - especially if you are vegan. This one is great substitute for veg eaters. The hazelnut sauce has little chunks of hazelnuts and it kind of acts like the "meat" in Dan Dan sauce. It is really flavour and spicy ( not chilli spicy, but like flavour spicy). Their chilli sauce was not spicy but still yummy (less spicy than Siracha). You sit yourself and their is really no service. It is expensive but when has vegan food and ramen been cheap in Vancouver?

Yelp
We came in on a Holiday and Harvest Community Foods was open! The cafe was pretty packed but we were able to get a table for 2. Seating may be bit of a wait for larger groups. The Udon with Sake Kazu broth and chicken was served with a fair sized portion, topped with fresh watercress. The broth tasted hearty with good flavors of sake, even better on a rainy/cold day! The noodles were done perfectly. The fresh greens gave the dish a good crunch/bite. I was a bit disappointed with the chicken. It was boiled in the broth, the meat felt like it was just for highlighting the broth but I think the chicken should shine as well, it's a key player in the dish! The Ramen with pork shoulder, and candied bacon and egg was another story of its own. The egg was cooked perfectly with the yolk oozing out, that's delish! The pork shoulder was very tender. The candied part of the bacon did not taste candied at all, but the bacon was crispy. The soup and ramen totally did not stand out for me, but I really enjoyed with toppings of this dish. Overall, the idea of a cafe that uses locally sourced ingredients is a great way to support our local vendors. I also love the fact that Harvest Community Foods is so transparent about which vendors they use, they provide this info on their website. While you are here, you can do some shopping in the store too!

Yelp
We came here because the other Ramen place was closed and decide to give this place a try. This place is like a hole in the wall and I have walked by this block couple times and totally missed this place. Don't know why, it never caught my attention. So I ordered the Ramen with pork shoulder, candied bacon and radishes. Sounds very delicious and yes it was very delicious. I have to say their soup base is totally AWESOME. I loved the soup soooo much that I drank the whole things. I mean people order ramen noodle and its very likely they won't drink the entire bowl of soup. Its not only me but also the person I am with did the same thing. The soup is said to be made in-house and I am guessing must be some special recipe as well. This is a different kind of ramen experience because the soup is not milky and it doesn't have much lard. As well, the soup doesn't make me thirsty so its very likely no MSG and very likely is healthy. I am a fan of this place and I am glad I walked in. Also another note is that the pork shoulder really did melt in my mouth. Another thing, I really like about the ramen or actually not in the ramen is the chili sauce. I am guessing they made that in-house too. The chili sauce is not super spicy and it has a very minor kick to it. I rarely use chili sauce with Ramen but I have to say you really got to try. The place is a bit small and decor is interesting. Nothing fancy. from the decor it looks like a place where you eat and go. I am definitely coming back. Thumbs up to the place.

Yelp
Harvest. How time flies! It seems like only yesterday that I enjoyed your ramen bowls for $10 or so... Always ready to revisit past pleasures, I checked out today's Harvest menu on-line and discovered everything would be $12... not bad given about a two year lapse since my last visit. Needless to say I was a little gobsmacked to look up at the Harvest menu board a few hours later to see most bowls of ramen in the $14 to $15 range! I mentioned the rather major pricing discrepancy might be corrected on the website, and was informed it's a major problem to adjust prices on the Harvest site! Right. So how was the food? Average at best, and this was the verdict of everyone in our group. There weren't either of the two udon dishes available from the six-item menu! Not sure where the ramen noodles came from, but they didn't have the nice chewy bite I enjoy. One piece of pulled pork, one piece of candied bacon, and half a soft boiled egg, all at room temperature, in a medium bowl... $14.95! That said, it is great to see someone sourcing local ingredients in the dishes... at least according to their website. Sorry, but I won't be back. If you're a ramen fan, best that you move on, too. Three stars is a stretch... a real stretch.

Yelp
I had the chicken ramen here and I wish I could say it wasn't totally mediocre. I was very disappointed considering how much I've heard about this place. Unfortunately it did not meet expectations. It wasn't bad but just felt bland.

Yelp
Local restos have gotten creative during COVID and I really appreciate their weekly CSA bags. The veg are beautiful and fruits are delicious. You pre-order and stop by within the weekly time period with your mask to get your bag! Good service. Safe environment.

Yelp
One of my favourite spots in the city! Delicious local organic ingredient, great quality, and super fresh. I've never had a bad bowl here and I've been enjoying their food for years. Lovely staff as well and a great local, small businesses to support! Thank you for saving me after a long day at work.

Yelp
I knew this place was overpriced, but I went and got food from here anyway. Quarantine really got me making bad decisions huh. Anyway, I got the two side salads and added on tofu, and it came to $11.50 before tax, and I got about ten bites worth of food. Kale Gomae (4/5) The almond-hazelnut sauce was actually pretty good, and I liked the crunch from the almonds and hazelnuts on top. However, the kale was extremely bitter and really messed with the flavours of the dish, as it stole the spotlight away from the sauce and made the whole dish just super bitter. Cabbage Salad (4/5) I liked the maple dressing, which had a slight sweetness and wasn't overpowering, and I also enjoyed the crunch from the pumpkin seeds. However, it was way too overpriced for a tiny bit of shredded cabbage and some dressing. Tofu Add-On (3.5/5) This was literally just a tiny slab of pan-fried firm tofu with no seasoning whatsoever and so it was definitely not worth $1.50. However, I do like tofu so it was fine. Overall, this place is definitely overpriced as the portions are so incredibly tiny and I can't justify paying that much for so little food even though the flavours are good. It was worth a try, but I don't see myself coming here again.

Yelp
Super cute neighborhood spot with yummy fresh ramen! Pork shoulder was super tender and the presentation of the food was beautiful. Very friendly staff, all smiles!

Yelp
I honestly rarely feel inclined to leave a review, but felt my visit back to Harvest Community Foods, an old favourite of mine, warranted this... I lived in the Chinatown neighbourhood from around 2013-2015 and stopped by Harvest for ramen frequently during those years - it was so fantastic back then that it became a craving for me that needed fulfillment every week or so. We were in the neighbourhood today and thought it would be nice to stop by for some soup on a rainy day - it had been a few years since we tasted their unique and beautiful soup! The first thing that we noticed was the price hike...I remember when the most expensive bowl on the menu was around $10-ish. Now everything is in the $14-$16 range, which is pretty steep for just a few years of difference (and quite steep considering that some of the best ramen in the city charges much less - often with many more staff to pay and located in higher priced real estate areas). I ordered my old favourite - the pork/bacon ramen with their beautiful miso-squash broth instead of their ramen broth, and was pretty instantly disappointed. The broth was thick, flavourless and almost paste-like...like a bland squash soup that you would make at home in a blender. I was sad to not be eating the light, unique and deeply flavourful miso-squash broth that I loved and craved a few years ago (and resembled a soup broth more than a puree). The pork was also pretty nasty, and I didn't eat all of it. It was grey, bland and had huge chunks of room temperature fat hanging off it. The worst part of the visit today was realizing that there is new management, or perhaps a new owner...which is why things have probably changed so drastically. Whoever was managing was super abrasive and was sitting on a stool at the front of the shop, on her cellphone and barking orders across the restaurant at the two sweet younger girls who were working/cooking. Her tone was horrible, and she really seemed to be talking down to them. All I could think was "this woman would be a nightmare for work for". Anyways, if you have fond memories of this place...it's best to leave them as memories, and not return anytime soon. (Sorry to be so harsh, but it's true).

Yelp
We were told to try the ramen at Harvest Community Foods, we love a good bowl of noodles so why not. The place also serves as a grocery store, so seating here is very limited but we were lucky on this particular day. We ordered the vegetarian ramen, which comes with squash, scallions, and radish. We also ordered the pork ramen, which comes with bacon, egg, and radish. We preferred the vegetarian bowl because the miso and sesame broth was delicious and hearty. The vegetables were fresh and the noodles were cooked perfectly. The pork was very tender but we would recommend the vegetarian option if you can handle no meat for a meal. Harvest does not use MSG in their broth and you can really taste the difference as the broth is very light but still tastes great. The portions aren't the biggest and you do pay a couple dollars more than most ramen shops but you're paying for the fresh ingredients, which are worth it in our opinion. We would recommend and will be back!

Yelp
Stopped in for a Friday night dinner with a friend and my newborn. We sat outside and I had the special (soba salad) and my friend had the squash and veggie ramen. Counter service was friendly and informative with explaining the different options. Food came out quickly and I was impressed with how fresh and colourful it was. Definitely enjoyed my dish and so did my friend. Looking forward to coming back

Yelp
Vancouver Ramen challenge 7 - Harvest community foods This place has all the potential for amazing ramen on the opposite side of denman area, located in heart of Chinatown. The noodles perfect and chewy The pork oh so melt in mouth good Candied bacon is always a plus The egg done correctly except wish it wasn't served cold The veggie broth amazing but the pork ramen broth is blend.. All the basics to a great ramen is here, surprisingly not run by Japanese.. The bad news is that it has so much potential but they are stingy on toppings and $1 for egg but you don't even get a full one... It could be so much better and could be the best place in town if it adds toppings quoit charging extra for everything Value 3/5 Atmosphere 2/5 weird people are grocery shopping while you are eating Service 3/5 Quality 5/5 13/20

Yelp
Okay. I'm a fan. It was the Vegetarian Ramen w/Squash & Miso Broth that won me over. I'm no vegetarian, but if I had to eat that everyday for the rest of my life, I'd be a happy lady. The Ramen w/Pork Shoulder was good too, but the Ramen w/Squash will have a special place in my heart now. I'm actually currently salivating just thinking about it. So why am I not giving them 5 stars? I came in one Friday afternoon for lunch craving for that delicious Ramen w/Squash bowl but was told they ran out of ramen!! I was so heartbroken. I stood there sad and confused and finally decided to try the Rice Noodle w/hazelnut, smoked chili and greens. It was not that good. I was expecting it to be soupy, but it was more saucy. And I found the sauce a bit too salty for my liking. And I still can't get over waiting 15-20 minutes for a bowl of ramen especially during a quick work lunch break. But I've learned to peek inside first and see if people have already gotten their noodle bowls or if they're still waiting. If they're mostly still waiting for their food I might be tempted to eat elsewhere. Maybe.

Yelp
I love Harvest Community Foods for their noodle soups. Delicious broths, locally sourced super fresh veggies and excellent noodles. Udon, ramen and rice noodles are available along with vegan and vegetarian options. I'm a regular for weekend brunch and love the Breakfast Udon, rich broth, beautiful greens and two poached eggs. Homemade chilli oil is always available made with roasted chillies the perfect finish. And so filling, portions have the feeling of the eyes being bigger than the stomach. A very popular spot for lunch where Chef Hokuto and server Malika deliver quality, careful and friendly customer service. Harvest is a definite "go to" especially now as autumn leads us toward winter and the rainy weather takes hold.

Yelp
Went here for the first time today and will, undoubtably, be back! The service was excellent and the food was even better. I tried the udon with shiso and it blew me away. It was the best udon I've had in a very very long time and I can't wait to try everything else!
google avatar

Yelp
Harvest has some delicious gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options for ramen (hallelujah! :D), and they've curated some fabulous additional treats to choose from, such as raw, gluten free blueberry macaroons (yum), handmade caramels, and ginger beer.
google avatar

Mel L.

Yelp
You can tell the quality of the ingredients is great, but at $14 for a bowl, it's definitely the priciest noodle bowl I've had in Vancouver! We've been meaning to try Harvest for quite some time after following their instagram account and glad we did, but probably won't be back for the ramen or udon. Nothing really wrong with it, but also nothing special to me. The broth was on the light side and I prefer a heavier broth plus the bowl didn't make me full and I'm not a huge eater. The candied bacon looked delicious but didn't taste as good as I thought it would, although to be fair, I didn't eat it until towards the end of the meal so probably would have been better right away. The greens in the dish looked good and tasted fresh, but to us, they didn't match the flavours of the soups. The udon's broth flavour was much better, the sake kazu chicken was tasty and soft. Overall, I liked this noodle bowl a lot more than the ramen. I would go back to pick up a salted chocolate chip cookie, but for ramen, there are others that I much prefer to return to. Also to note that their menu prices on their website are not the same as what was on the menu board in store. I wish I had taken a picture, but I believe the ramen we had was either $13.95 or 14.95 and the udon was $1-2 less...

Yelp
"Please Sir may I have some more?" and more and more and well you get it! What a gem of a spot! I would never have guessed that it could pump out such amazing ramen only using induction burners! I thought for sure there were going to be big pots of amazing broth bubbling on a huge gas stove. I even considered looking in an alley to see if he was out there with a camp stove. No my friends it is all done with a simple induction burner. The egg in my #9 was so perfectly cooked. It just looked beautiful and allowed the flavor of the broth to adhere to it in such a great way. In the case of my meal at Harvest Community Foods bigger is not always better. They completely understand the tipping point of being overly full to comfortable. The portion was perfect. I was able to enjoy all the noodles, "garnish" and amazing broth without feeling bloated. In addition to the fabulous ramen they have a little shop that sells locally produced products. You may also want to sign up for the basket program for $35 every few weeks. It has amazing products each time you pick it up. Spread the word my friends this is certainly a community feel restaurant that makes the most of the ingredients. Everything just pops!

Yelp
Was looking for some new Ramen places to try. Came across this place. When we first walked in, it was different as it didn't seem like a Japanese shop. There are Udon and Ramen bowls. Most expensive Udon/Ramen I've ever ordered. Taste is average; not the best and not the worst I had. I shared a Ramen bowl with my son. So bad I found a piece of plastic in my noodles.
google avatar

Justin M.

Yelp
My wife and I bought some ramen bowls to take out at Harvest and I thought it was such an outrageous rip-off I had to return them. The portions were small and there were barely any vegetables in there. The broth was very bland. My jaw dropped when my wife informed me the two bowls cost us $23! We had the most incredible Vietnamese bowls for the same price at nearby Union a while back, so I just couldn't accept this. In fairness they refunded without a quibble. Sorry Harvest, I'm calling 'hipster fakery' on your ramen!

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Harvest, and do much of my grocery shopping there these days. Their German Butter potatoes from North Arm have completely reinvented the way I think about spuds. They're firm and have flavour that is actually complex, not just starchy. Amazing and totally worth it, no matter how you cook them. For the past few weeks, I've joined their winter CSA program. Their non-traditional CSA model doesn't require a season-long commitment (you sign up again every two weeks), and brings together produce from a number of different locals farms. The CSA has really opened up my cooking explorations, forcing me to experiment with rutabagas and jerusalem artichokes. All of it incredibly fresh and delicious. While earlier reviewers have mentioned that Harvest is expensive, it seems that they have now found their feet in terms of pricing. In my experience, the produce here is DEFINITELY cheaper than Safeway. And it's local, organic and truly fresh. The noodle bowls are yummy too and make for a good quick dinner. I recently tried a vegan rice noodle bowl with a hazelnut sauce which was very tasty and just what the doctor ordered.

Yelp
A sweet (dare I say quaint, even) organic grocer slash deli serving soups and sammies for the most discerning palette, Harvest is a welcome oasis of local food goodness located right smack dab in the middle of what is otherwise a pretty niche neighbourhood in terms of food options. Stocked full of milk and cheese, snacks and baking, chocolate and ice cream (the BEST ice cream!), this is what I've been missing since moving from my beloved and entirely eccentric West End neighbourhood last year. I love this idea. I love what they've done with This Space [1]. I love the community call to action that brought it to life. What a great little space - my neighbourhood needed this. [1] Harvest was brought to life via the project 'This Space' which asked residents of Chinatown/Strathcona to decide what business they thought belonged at 243 Union. Rightfully, we voted for a local foods grocery store and named it Harvest. See? Told you it's quaint.

Yelp
A bright, fresh space/fresh produce grocer that you wish existed on every corner of your neighbourhood. As they continue to find their groove, I'm confident we'll be seeing some fresh, local, well priced produce that will continue the wave of "eating local" for all the health conscious vegan vancouverites out there. I am slowly jumping on the band wagon. At $13, My 5lbs of natural, non spray blueberries (the size of swedish berries!) could not make me happier. Blueberry pie here I come!
google avatar

Nicolb T.

Yelp
Bright, welcoming, and always fresh. I've come to love Harvest for everything they offer, especially the summer time fruit boxes! $13 for 5lbs of the sweetest blueberries I've ever had. Okay, so I'm not the biggest herbivore, but even I can appreciate a good salad when I get one! I found the portions to be just right, where you get juuuuuust before the cusp of thinking you're eating rummage for foliage. Go to Harvest. Get some food. Grab an Earnest Ice-Cream cone. Leave happy. Go back often.

Yelp
Ohhhh I was so excited about this place, but Harvest deserves 1 star for sure, for its: - BLANDEST broth ever - tiny little portion for $10 -- after tax and tip it was $12 - no friendly service and yet they still ask for the tip even BEFORE we even get any kind of food or service. The whole point of tip is gratitude, that is to show how you feel about the food and service, but at Harvest, you pay that when you order the food standing at the cash register (since it is self service like a Starbucks) before you get your food or even get to sit at your table. Went to Harvest yesterday to check out since I heard so much great thing about the place. We were pretty excited with the idea and philosophy of the place. What a disappointment though... :( Maybe I should have given one more chance with some other food before I give one star but.... wow that Ramen with Pork Shoulder was the worst ramen I have ever had. I am a big fan of Japanese ramen with MSG sensitivity and I have tried pretty much all the places around Lower Mainland and North Shore. I only give 1 star and 5 stars on my Yelp and their average is around 3 or 4 in Vancouver and Toronto so far so they are not on my Yelp review (of course I would have given those I had in Japan 5 stars for sure! if they had Yelp Japan).
google avatar

Yelp
Vegans never fear! Harvest has 2 options for us on their menu, a delicious mushroom ramen and a comforting curry ramen (it says vegan right on the board). I have been here twice on my lunch break and have tried both options. I can't decide which is better because both have such a high level of quality ingredients, sophisticated flavour, and tasty happiness. On both occasions, the service was lovely, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the food came promptly (perfect for a lunch break).

Yelp
Super cupe little spot. The whole block is now home to awesome little places, including the Union, the Parker and Hogan's alley and a few cool looking clothing stores. It is very small with about 3-4 table and a window. I had the ramen with pork shoulder, which was really good though could have used more spice. They have a homemade chilli sauce, but for me not hot enough. Otherwise, nice and warm on a cold day. What I liked best was the nice friendly service. I chatted with the girl working there and got samples of ice cream and banana bread. Yeah!

Yelp
This is a little gem in this neighbourhood. I'm a big Japanese ramen person and there flavor is quite unique and delicious. My favorite is the Ramen with squash broth. The broth is super rich and smooth and the noodle was cooked just right. One thing I found was that the greens (fresh) in the soup changes every time I went there which I don't mind. But that also means the flavor is better or worse then other times every time you go. I don't remember what it was the first time, but it was complementary enough. The second time was not the best. It was like green salad on top. It just didn't add anything to the soup. Couldn't taste much at all. The third time was jackpot (this week). It was watercress and it complemented the soup so nicely. It was fantastic. People working there is alway so nice and seems very happy. The space is very pleasant and clean as well. Very cozy. My one complaints - the spoon! It's the typical Japanese spoon but slightly shorter. Not so convenient.

Yelp
Omg, what happened? I haven't eaten here for a month and the noodles are now $2 more @ $11.95. Ahhhh you're killing my wallet. Not worth it unless it gives me special powers but apparently it didn't! Sorry but there are so many other places to eat now around Chinatown so I dunno how long this business will last. =*( Plus the service sucks no matter how many times I've been here. I'm sad.

Yelp
The Rice Noodle dish is delicious. Fresh vegetables, slightly spicy, great flavour. Will be back to try the Udon!

Yelp
yum! i don't know if i've even ever had ramen, so this place was especially exciting. we shared the 2 vegan options for today: a rice noodle/hazlenut/chili/greens guy and a shiso ramen soup with shitake mushrooms and greens and 2 kinds of tofu. i declined chili sauce on the soup as i wasn't sure how spicy it was but it turns out, i didn't notice it on the rice noodle dish and would have been fine adding more. loved the undoubtedly-fresh-from-the-garden greens on top of both bowls! it was glorious sitting outside in the sun and the friendly girl who ran our order through was attentive with water and such. definitely excited to return for more lunches like these! we were a bit disappointed that there was no vegan earnest ice cream in stock but hopefully that means that it's popular! ^_^

Yelp
I love this place. Fresh and Delicious. Excellent sandwiches. Good "CLEAN" food. The best ice cream I've ever had! (Salty Caramel, Dude!) Outdoor seating. They even have bamboo mats for you to sit on if you wanna have a picnic across the street. So cute, right? Please try the ice cream, I beg you.

Yelp
Overall, it's quite expensive for most things. The CSA is a great value for unique produce, but given that Chinatown has an abundance of local produce (some even organic) they just can't compete. They have very good specialty items, Earnest Ice Cream, Two Rivers Meats, ToDieFor Banana Bread and their very good, very famous Ramen. If not for the price, this would be great. Still, it's a good addition to the neighbour.

Yelp
Small ramen place with very cute ambience (+1) and cafeteria-style-service. Too bad food was slightly below average (-3) :( Favorite: They sell earnest ice cream!!

Yelp
Great ramen and good value. Love knowing that they do ethical and local sourcing.

Yelp
This place has gone down hill. I used to love coming here for a bowl of fresh, amazing noodles for a decent price - $9 back in 2014. Recently however, my last two trips here have fallen short of satisfying. $1 for half an egg? No thanks, I'll venture to the various other ramen shops this city has to offer.

Yelp
Harvest Foods is so delicious! They have THE BEST kimchi and the most amazing rice noodles. To all the people that say they're pricey - it's because they make everything with really great ingredients, they care deeply about local produces and suppliers and they're a tiny little place! They're are such a community staple! AND their CSA boxes are wonderful. I love supporting them.

Yelp
As a long-time local, I want these guys to to well, but to be honest: as a grocery store, the selection and pricing could stand to be worked on. I appreciate that a lot of the stock is locavore and/or organic but it's limited and expensive. But, they're new and finding their legs - I feel confident that they'll settle into their niche soon enough That said, it's a cute spot, fresh and bright, nice sunny seating and friendly smiling staff. The big stand out surprise for me however was the steamed bun chicken sandwich: classic Chinese steamed dumpling, split down the middle with roast chicken, cilantro, caramelized onion and a dollop of sweet hot sauce. Holy YUM! A nice hot snack at a reasonable price point - worth the visit alone to try one of these.

Yelp
When I walked in here, I was not expecting it to serve ramen. I had heard a little about the place and knew that they were a small grocer with lots of organic and local produce. But the ramen! Oh my goodness. So tasty and perfectly cooked. It had the right bite to it. I got the one with pork shoulder and a bit of bacon. I especially loved the soft boiled egg that was served with it. Very flavourful. The broth was really yum too. On the side wall they have a collection of locally made products. A lot of tasty stuff. The best part is that they sell Earnest Ice cream which is the best! I ended up taking home a jar of the salted caramel. Mmm delicious.

Yelp
I slept on this place until recently. Now I end up there once a week or so. Easily some of the best noodles in the city. Great for more traditional ramen but they also have very good specials to keep you on your toes. Clean ingredients in the bowl and great energy in the room. Don't sleep!

Yelp
I popped by this corner grocery to pick up some soy milk while i was in the area. The decor was very cheerful, the selection was limited, but all looked very high quality. The interesting thing was that they were also a cafe with 4 entrees, and one of the options was vegan ramen!!!! Yum!!!! Will need to go back and try it.

Yelp
The best ramen in the city hands down -- so glad they're expanding that part of their place.

Yelp
my next best stop if i'm in the chinatown area to get Earnest Ice cream...but just the basic flavours. Also seems like a good place for comfort food, despite the recent reviews---at least it's another different option than those asian bakeries haha.

Yelp
I came here with high hopes in an area that is slowly revamping itself as the hipster retail location, however, the food was disappointing. Worst Tasted Udon ever. Noddles were over cooked, broth was over salty and mine barely had any chicken. The lady at the til had a to force a smile which was disappointing. It wasn't 'cause it was hot, she genuinely wasn't warm. The prices were way too expensive wasn't there. The ambiance is cool and they stock a lot of local favorites.

Yelp
I like the vibe of this place and what they do and represent. It feels good to sit in the small digs and eat. I've only had the ramen and it left a lot to be desired. I wouldn't even call it ramen. Just noodles in a flavourless broth. Majorly lame considering what this city's ramen offerings are.
