Gourmet Food Shops of Today | The New Yorker

"Described on its website as “NYC’s boutique grocery & prepared foods service,” Harvest Moon Supplies offers weekly delivery of a curated selection from farmers, artisans and purveyors across the country ($175–$410). Its green‑chickpea hummus arrived with pools of fruity olive oil and an almost paper‑thin, lemony cracker crusted in flaky salt that I ate lustily; a “Niçoise” spuntino featured tiny steamed potatoes, baby‑artichoke hearts, crunchy string beans, and Castelvetrano olives strewn with flowering chive and delicate shavings of breakfast radish (no tuna necessary); there were swordfish steaks to be pan‑seared and finished with gremolata. A spring salad of pea shoots with English and sugar‑snap peas, blanched asparagus, segments of blood orange, ricotta salata and capers was so beautiful I would have painted it, and so delicious I forgot to even take a picture." - Hannah Goldfield

This place is hands-down the best in the business. The owner’s knowledge of hydroponics is absolutely unparalleled. It’s my go-to spot for top-notch equipment, comprehensive advice, and growing supplies suited for MY needs. The owner’s passion for the subject is evident in every conversation I’ve had over the years, and has left me more confident and better prepared to grow my flowers with each visit. They’re great! I highly recommend them to anyone looking to take their plants to the next level, or, more importantly, anyone just starting out in the vast world of hydroponics…they’re fantastic.

Still in the parking lot figure out how a sales tax of .0875 makes a product costing 15.29 17.13. I’ve been here a couple times and his pricing has always been off. I’ve had horrible experiences but only one sells down to earth besides green zone which is objectively a way better store but not on my way home.

Google
Unfortunate to see some low reviews of this place. Local gem. Worried places like this may not be around in the future.

Been shopping here and doing business for five years and harvest moon is hands down the best hydro shop! They create a welcoming and knowledgeable environment for any grower from the beginner to the OG. They truly go out their way to help me out. Plus they are the only shop in the city to carry New millennium nutrients which took my garden to the next level! PS, the years I've been shopping here the soil and coco has always been clean 👍

Google
Do not buy any soils from this guy you will be brining a ton of pest into your garden. I got some coco coir from him recently and had to throw out my entire run bc it was infested with fungus knats. After speaking with a few other growers they have all had the same experience with his soils. Beware this guy will cost you time and frustration. For someone who is suppose to be an OG grower who knows all these industry people you would think he would care more about what he is selling people for their gardens. Thanks for the headache harvest moon will never step foot back in your store again

Bonnie is hella helpful and knowledgeable and well Mike is Mike... Mike always fills my head with some form of knowledge every time I go that I've not came across or know. I remember the first time I actually had a conversation with Mike. It was about the beneficial microbes and how the medium reacts. Which to be honest was way above my knowledge, however with not knowing what he was trying to convey I decided to grab some books and read. In order to have a better understanding next time. Then the aha moment happened when I had that understanding. If you want a product with knowledge I'd say go here. Sorry to the other younger guy he's hella helpful too I just forget his name.

Stopped in recently to check out the new location and was amazed at my experience. Bonnie and Mike were extremely helpful in getting me set up with a new light. Disregard all bad reviews if you come in willing to learn and grow then you will gain the time and knowledge these veteran growers have to offer. 10/10 recommend this for your grow gear and nutrients!

Stopped to support a small local business on small business saturday.. I can honestly say that the older gentleman is extremely knowledgeable and easy to do business with. If you want an honest real person who will help you in your endeavor then this is the place. Supporting a small local business that has been around this long is awesome.

Yelp
I found it to be poorly organized and overpriced, with surly service (to say the least)

Yelp
Went to get a $100 gift certificate. The crochety old dude said that he hasn't sold a gift cert since Christmas and he didn't want to change the date? Then he ignored me. Must be nice to be able to pass a $100 sale

Yelp
The owner is not a good salesman, not knowledge, the store is organized nonsensically.. The man is Known to open gallon containers of nutrients, & water them down & put in smaller containers with his own labels from a regular printer (quality every home has had since Y2K. Lol). Yeah, he does that instead of Actual stocking the smaller bottles of Many things. Did it a buddy of mine recently. I tried to explain. I wouldn't do business with that man under any circumstances & would rather drive to Buffalo Roots - a Properly stocked store with good help & the 1 guy is the only person in Any shop that can keep up a proper conversation on organics & science behind the reasons why we do things certain ways for success. Shout-out to Josh at Buffalo Roots. I recommend to Not go there. I also remember the floor being dirty & he doesn't sell his soil quickly. That's a recipe for gnats & other soil borne disease & imbalances in microbes. Wish Everybody the best in their endeavors!.

Yelp
Seeds are best variety and quality. Always had 100 percent success rate with your seeds

Yelp
Harvest moon actually has some unique products. Mike is a true OG and knows his stuff he's a professional / awesome gentleman everyone disregard the bad reviews! Their light selection is like no other!! I'll be back 10/10 recommend! - Hunter

Yelp
Service is ass and the last two times I've been in the owner was rude and was not helpful. I only needed a few items so I grabbed what I needed and was out but won't give this place anymore of my money. If you want quality service from a knowledgeable human being I'd try either spot downtown

Matthew M.

Yelp
The owner Mike isn't a very nice person at all. He gets mad at every little question you ask and you always feel rushed out of the store. He over prices on everything. One day I went there for a bag of Mother Earth soil and it was about $21... 3 days later I went there and he said it was a little over $24 dollars.. I mean I'm not trying to be one of those people who complain about price but this dude legit makes up prices as you go. I have a lot of knowledge about nutrition of plants as well and what they need and all he tries to do is oversell you on crap YOU TRULY DONT NEED!!!! please if you're a new grower research things before you go out shopping for them because people like this man will TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU! I'm so sorry about this negative comment but this man doesn't know how to treat his customers. Get into a new profession buddy. (He also sells the same things you can find on Amazon about 10 dollars or more cheaper!)
