Whenever I visit Sioux Falls, I sure hope to be able to make it back to Harvester Kitchen by Bryan. Last year, a smaller group of us ordered off the regular menu and enjoyed every dish. This year, I was lucky enough to be invited to join a larger group and sample their tasting menu. For me, what sets this restaurant apart even more so than the food is kind and friendly staff who are incredibly passionate about providing top-notch service.
In an era when customer service seems to be a lost art, the folks at Harvester Kitchen make you feel welcomed and that they're happy you chose to dine with them. It truly elevates the experience even more, as they are simultaneously unpretentious and comfortable, yet extremely professional and knowledgeable about the menu.
We had the Steakhouse tasting menu, and the starters of the smoked goat cheese gougeres and the arancini. Everything was delicious, but my absolute favorites were the smoked goat cheese gougeres and the American wagyu striploin. I'm a sucker for anything with goat cheese, and the smoked aspect in this dish elevated the flavor to new heights. While I enjoyed the other 2 beef courses on the tasting menu, the wagyu striploin had the most concentrated pure beef flavor.
We started with sparkling wine for the appetizers, then there were bottles of a chablis and a pinot noir for the tables. The chablis was nice, straightforward and drinkable, pairing well with the first courses. What really surprised me was how much I liked the pinot noir. I usually prefer a zinfandel, montepulciano or even a red blend, but this Domaine Drouhin was outstanding, very smooth and drinkable.
As I mentioned earlier, what really sets Harvester Kitchen apart is their team. Maggie and Ashley took care of us with warm, friendly professionalism and Alton the manager stopped by to chat, sincerely pleased with how much we all enjoyed the experience. We loved them all and can only hope to return next year.
