US-inspired brunch with popular chorizo hash and pancakes
"Come Saturday or Sunday morning, brunch spots around Dalston are a bunfight, and getting a walk-in table at Hash E8 is no different. Let us save you time spent jostling for a spot with local Hackneyites—there are better places nearby. Although service is friendly, it’s a plain space and the hard chairs don’t exactly encourage a relaxing start to the day. Some dishes like eggs benedict on their signature puck-sized hash brown are just fine, while others miss, like the overly earthy ‘Beets n Sweets’ with poached eggs and chunks of sweet potato and beetroot. And their filter coffee (the only coffee they serve) falls on the too-bitter side. If you do find yourself here, order a sugar rush in the form of the thick, fluffy pancakes. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Pause Unmute Food Rundown Beets N Sweets We’re not opposed to getting some of our five a day with brunch, but the chunks of roasted sweet potato and beetroot bring the same earthy note, and spinach only adds more of a bitter edge. Poached eggs with too-runny hollandaise don’t improve things. It’s a fibre party we’d rather not be invited to. photo credit: Daisy Meager White Chocolate Pancakes If you’re getting anything, make it this stack of pancakes with white chocolate and caramelised banana. It’s definitely one for the sugar heads, but the flavour combination isn’t on all brunch menus, and isn’t too sickly. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch" - Daisy Meager
"On a regular weekend the queue for Hash spills out of the door, with countless pairs of Converse, Vejas, and Doc Martens waiting patiently down Dalston Lane. The good news is that you can skip that queue and get their chorizo and sweet potato hash, or pork belly benedict, straight to your door. The bad news? Now there’s no pressure to change out of your underwear." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing
"“Phantom Thread is a serious film. But you don’t need to take it too seriously. Sure, you could enjoy it - if you’ll excuse me coming over a bit Sight & Sound for a moment - for the thrill of having your expectations of co-dependency in creative relationships masterfully subverted, but there’s also a lot of fun to be had. There are grand yesteryear-ish locations, a magnificent array of socks and ascots, and of course a series of intolerantly withering glances that lead character Reynolds Woodcock, played by Daniel Day-Lewis, shoots at anyone who dares to butter their toast too loudly. But then there’s that legendary breakfast order. You don’t need to use it as a basis for your selection from Hash E8 - I’m not even sure they’re delivering Welsh rarebit or pots of lapsang - but if you end your order with the totally random addition of sausages, you’re basically my hero.” - OJF" - oliver feldman, heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak
"Hash is an east London favourite thanks to its warm familial atmosphere and the sheer amount of potato on its menu. Hash browns, tater tots, breakfast potatoes. If your brain is fantasising about them, Hash probably has them. Unsurprisingly, this place pops off during peak weekend self-pity hours (11am–3pm), so be prepared to queue. But leisurely, late brunches are what Hash lives for so be safe in the knowledge that they’ll look after you. House-infused coffee whisky and all." - jake missing
"Hackney brunch legends Hash E8 are still doing their thing every day via the wonders of technology and two wheeled vehicles. Get your eggs benedict, pancakes, or French toast orders in here." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak
