Hashi Market - Review - Union Square - New York - The Infatuation

"NYC’s newest Japanese grocery store is Hashi Market, which has a few other locations in the city. In addition to Japanese snacks and drinks, their Union Square location has a prepared food section, matcha soft serve, and a tuna cutting where you can snag some free samples. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Willa Moore

It is impossible to leave empty handed because they’ve got an extensive selection of asian snacks, groceries, beauty and skincare products, homegoods, and even anime figures and blind boxes. I almost go to Hashi Market every day because there is one right next to my office. The new Union Square location is the biggest one with more new products, including Japan exclusive haagen dazs flavors. My favorite part of Hashi Market is definitely their Fujiissa counter, offering matcha & black sesame soft serve, flavored matcha drinks, and matcha affogato. The matcha affogato is very rich in matcha flavor, but it melts pretty fast. The sushi and sahimi are top-notch — their sashimi is sourced and shipped directly from Japan. I was lucky to watch the tuna-cutting show, performed by a licensed chef from Japan. The tuna was weighted 140 pounds!?

Newly open Japanese supermarket by union square. Very nice and clean. It makes me feel I’m back to Japan. Different sections like grocery, bento box/to-go food, snacks, frozen items etc. At the entrance, a matcha tea shop serves drinks and ice cream. The matcha ice cream is goooooood! There are couple stools and microchips for quick meal if you need to eat. The staff seem nice. I did not have much interaction with them but they were efficient at the counters.

Just visited HASHI Market and had a great experience! 🐟 The sushi was fresh and the selection was impressive — especially the salmon and tuna. They even had a Japanese chef doing a live tuna-cutting demo, which was really cool to watch.

The store is pretty simple. I found some of my fave stuff and treats from Japan. The labubu is expensive hahaha like $79 excluding tax. I didn’t buy. The famous peach ice cream exploded on my hands. It was pretty bad. So when you buy it pick it from the bottom of the fridge. Also, I didn't find my georgia coffee brand from Japan. I mean I expected not all will be available. The nose inhaler like vicks it was color green, was overrated don't buy it unless you want to try. Overall it was a mini cute grocery store. Will I go back again? Maybe for the matcha ice cream in front thats it. The food to go is also expensive but it is city prices so thats understandable. I would say pretty limited but cute enough to have some Japanese stuff. :)

Newly opened Japanese grocery store with a matcha side shop inside. The matcha ice cream was really good!

Picked up salmon sashimi and some prepared food. All of it went in the trash. I wasn’t expecting top quality, but even HMart does better fish. The rest of the market was sparse. I did get a free Hello Kitty cup, so that's a win.

Markup is insane. I’d argue it’s even more expensive than H-marts. It’s basically an Asian bodega. Most of stuffs can be found in any Asian grocery stores. It will be 50% cheaper on Weee. Fresh food/produce section also seems tiny

The market has mostly Asian products, food, drinks, toys and etc. And it is reasonable price in this area. And the matcha ice cream is pretty good and tasty.
