Hashi Market

I used to come here under Marina more than 10 years ago. It was very busy then. It is under new management and I found that 1. The vegetable section has a wide selection and well stocked. 5 stars. 2. The meat section is very clean and organized than before. 4 3. The fish department regrettably has more dead fish in the tank than desired. 3 4. All other items on the shelves are well stocked or even over stocked. Nice and tidy. 5 5. The temperature is too cold. 3 6. The cashiers are very nice, friendly and helpful. 5+ 7. The prices in general are very reasonable, more affordable than other competitors. 5 8. The interior has improved a bit, and I hope upgrade is in the process. 3+ 9. For some reason, the place is still not very busy. I just hope it will grow overtime and be successful.

Used to be Marina supermarket. The ownership is changed now it is Hashi Market. Almost everything are still the same. Not much changed yet. I hear they will star remodeling it early 2026. I am eager to see the changes as there are many old equipments like the noofle section fridge always spilling water, very cold inside supermarket because I heard they cannot control the temp. They are some changes been done but not much. I still like to come here as the price is more reseonable. II am also eager to see the food court to open.

Hashi took over Marina market. Glad to see this NYC shop in San Mateo. Hopefully it will do well and bring lots of great Asian groceries to this area 👍

They replaced the Marina Foods after the change in ownership. The place is actually still open and selling mostly the same Chinese groceries for now though, there's still a deli and seafood section. Prices are the same edit: They are slowly clearing out old stock from the handover, lots of empty shelves. Deli was closed last week. Don't get your hopes up

I went to the store this morning. Found what I was looking for. All cashiers under new management are super nice.

Great selection of Asian foods (mostly Japanese, I guess) and friendly staff.

Good selection but saw many dead and dying fish in the live tanks during my visit, which was sad.

I don’t know why the market is so cooooold! It is Freezing…….

Not sure why this place gets so much hate... I personally think it's a great change and the location is far more convenient than driving deep into foster city. Nearly every mid-pen Asian supermarket is far into the foster city area, and mega mart was underwhelming (see my review). Pros: right off 101 / hillsdale, no need to brave the 92 interchange traffic Decent selection of Korean / Japanese goods along with Chinese items. I was surprised there was a good variety of frozen goods, ramen, snacks, meal kits, condiments, dry noodles. Kind of a one-stop for all of it . Prices were reasonable, seemed cheaper than ranch 99. Plaza has a bunch of salons, food establishments, near hillsdale mall Cons: congested parking, very cold (bring your coat!), parts of the store need sprucing up (says its renovating) or smell a bit ( but being in the original site for marina mart, I think it's a relic of the old business).

Hashi Market in San Mateo is a nice upgrade from what used to be Marina Market. Now under new ownership, it's taking on a fresh, Japanese-inspired direction. The store feels cleaner and more organized, with a growing selection of Japanese snacks, drinks, and grocery items. They're still in the process of remodeling, so parts of the store are being updated, but you can already see the improvements taking shape. The staff are friendly and helpful, and it's clear they're putting effort into creating a more modern, curated shopping experience. Excited to see the final look once renovations are complete! A promising start and a welcome refresh for the neighborhood.

Very disappointed with Hashi. This location used to be Marina Food Supermarket, which had lower prices, more variety, and many hotpot items not made in China -- with products from Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan, and Taiwan. Now under the new ownership as Hashi, it feels more like a Chinese supermarket than a Japanese one. Too many products are made in China, prices are high, and brand choices are very limited. If I want to buy made-in-China food items, I will go to Ranch 99 in Foster City. If I want Japanese food, I will go to 20th Ave or 4th Ave in San Mateo. I would not recommend Hashi.

This market has always been chaotic and confusing but I love it anyway. I didn't know there had been an ownership change. Nothing seems all that different to me. There is a much better selection of Japanese candy which I love. People were actively cleaning the aisles which is always a good sign. Some items are hard to find but they'll have it somewhere.

Hashi Market is making the necessary improvements to become a favorite Asian and fresh produce/meat market. Thank you for replacing the rusty old shopping carts. The produce and meat are fresh and at reasonable prices. They have fresh oxtail, bone marrow, neck bones, and other typical meat. They even have fresh cuts of fish for sashimi (that I haven't tried yet). The have fresh packaged noodles, soy milk, tofu, and the basic products for Asian and healthy meals. The interior needs updating. Staff is very attentive and hardworking. There is ample free parking.
