Last Dinners: Why Are These Top Restaurants Around The World Closing Down?

"Fans of the much-feted Japanese restaurant Hashida Sushi have been on a roller-coaster ride. A week after the five-year-old restaurant closed for good, chef Kenjiro Hashida is announcing his comeback. In a press statement that was released yesterday, Hashida will now run a sushi restaurant in Singapore with Cloud Eight, a newly-formed subsidiary of Singapore lifestyle company, Lifebrandz. According to a Lifebrandz spokesperson, the new restaurant will open by this year. She declined to comment on the restaurant’s name, location and opening date, but only mentioned that some details will be on the restaurant’s new website by early next month. The Tokyo-born chef will also open restaurants in San Francisco and Tokyo in the near future." - Kenneth Goh

One of the best omakase we have had in Singapore. Service is top notch. Special effort was made to fulfil my special requests. Knowledgeable staff breezed us through our meal with detailed explanations of each dish and ensured our cups were always full. The food is top notch and super delicious. Left feeling so satisfied. Will definitely return.

Outstanding hospitality, with little details cared for throughout the experience that kept us feeling impressed. Chef Kazu-san made sure we had a good time through his masterful food preparation and light hearted conversation. The meal was well paced and the quality top notched. Worth the splurge!

Every piece of nigiri was really good, so was the rice which was perfectly seasoned. The caramelised ankimo/monkfish liver was to die for. Really enjoyed that, wish I had a bigger piece but I would love to go back for it again. Pacing of each course was perfect. The Polaroid and handwritten card at the end of the dinner was such a cute personal touch. Loved the interior, it almost felt like a cave without giving anyone claustrophobia. Would probably place this as my second favourite omakase in Singapore.

My first visit to Hashida and it was a pity that Chef Hashida was not around. Instead, we tried his understudy’s food. The different flavours used were complementing the ingredients. Sashimi was fresh and sushi course got me so stuffed. The dessert deserved a special mention. Typically, omakase course will end with seasonal fruits but here at Hashida, you get french macaroon and a strawberry parfait. So unique and they were delicious. The music played in the restaurant was eclectic and I understand that it was Chef Hashida’s idea. Not something that I could appreciate but I guess it has its charm.

Always left the place satisfied. One of my favorite Jap food in SG. It transports you back to Japan. Exquisite ingredients and perfect techniques. The chefs will tell you about the ingredients and why they cook it the way they do. Very intimate dining experience. Services are perfect. Slight pricy but worth every penny.

This was one of the best food experiences in my life. The chefs here are extremely talented, transporting me back to Japan. They fly in fresh fish from Japan & you can really taste the difference. They have a great selection of sake too. Very intimate dining experience with only room for 8 guests, where you get front row to watching the chefs create each dish. The staff are very attentive too. Thank you for taking me on an incredible food journey.

Visted Abura Kappo by Hashida, to celebrate my birthday. Chef Yamamura made it a memorable experience for us. Food was really good too!
