An Eater’s Guide to Crete, Greece’s Largest Island | Eater

"A meze-focused spot in Rethymno serving classic Cretan small plates—think beef liver with herbs and lemon, lamb tsigariasto with bulgur, and cod with okra—delivering a traditional, shareable dining format steeped in local taste profiles." - Demetrios Ioannou

One of the best restaurants we tried in Rethymno, more of a modern take on Greek cuisine. The calamari gyros was done in the style of a bowl, with Mexican inspired flavours and honestly a textural delight. Flavour profile was reminiscence of Mexican cuisine. One of the best dishes we’ve had in Crete! The carpaccio was also very well done with green onion oil, lime zest and salt. The veal cheeks were tender and flavourful served on top of creamy mash, also highly recommend.

We stumbled across this restaurant in the streets of Rethymno and absolutely loved it! The street was not too busy so it was very pleasant to sit in the street. The service was absolutely lovely, we received great advices for our orders and all in all great conversations. Now to the best part, the food! We shared 3 entrances, a Cretan salad which honestly was the best we tried in our vacation here. A cheese pie which as well was absolutely fabulous and an amazing shrimps saganaki. For main courses we had an absolutely delicious fish (red snapper, the best fish he ate according to my boyfriend) and an amazing pilaf bulgar lamb! We can only recommend this place if you’d like to try authentic delicious Cretan food. We both do not drink alcohol so we did not try the wine but they have a bar directly connected with the restaurant and it looks as well as the perfect match with the food.

I usually avoid social media pretty visual venues, but I do my homework well! I heard and read about Hasika from the moment I began planning our Crete Rethymno holidays or the week we stayed in the area. My oh my what a surprise it was, the food is truly extraordinary, so fresh and the Cretan fusion with modern cuisine is sumptuous. The team /staff are fantastic, their knowledge of wine selection with exactly the food we have ordered is a master in hospitality and restaurant business. We came back for another night before we left Rethymno. Every single dish was a dream but do not miss their version of Bakhlava. Well done Hasika, unforgettable experience

Was recommend to eat here by my hotel. So glad they did, it's a gem of a place. The fact it was full of locals speaks to that. The food was incredible and presented in a way that would make a Michelin star restaurant jealous. Service was friendly and professional. Not the cheapest place to eat but you get what you pay for. Can't wait to come back.

Hasika offers a creative and contemporary interpretation of Greek cuisine, with well-thought-out flavor combinations and an evident respect for quality ingredients. Each dish reflects a modern sensibility, balancing tradition with innovation. The setting, located on a charming street in the old town, is tastefully designed, though it lacks the courtyard ambience that many Rethymno restaurants enjoy. While the food is of a high standard, it doesn’t quite reach the very top tier compared to other restaurants in its category across Greece. Service is warm and welcoming, though the flow of dishes could be better orchestrated – our salad, for example, arrived towards the end of the meal. Overall, Hasika delivers a memorable dining experience and is well worth a visit for those seeking a fresh perspective on Greek flavors in the heart of Rethymno.

Had a lovely first meal in Crete. Good variety and value for money. The dishes were all absolutely delicious! And generous portions. Such a stylish restaurant and service was really good. Meal were finishes with a complementary small desert. We had the Marinated Rooster , Calamari Giros, pastrami sandwich (with real hand cooked crisps to perfection) and lamb slow cooked.

Lovely restaurant with a beautiful atmosphere. Hasika offers traditional greek cuisine with a modern twist. Thus the prices are also a bit higher but if you appreciate high quality food and service Hasika is a must-visit. The flavours are just out of this world, have enjoyed both of the times I visited Hasika (I had to come back here after 3 years because of the lentil salad and the cheese pies😅) I recommend especially the eggplant and rooster as main dishes and the lovely salads as starters.
