i saw this store when i was walking home and i was curious. now i know that my curiosity was unwarranted.
i asked the cashier, who was a tall white man, if there were more options for cocktail drinks, but he said there weren't. i have a theory that me asking him that question may have made him initially suspicious of my age. i just like girly drinks, is that such a crime?
i also want to state truthfully, i am 22 years old. i guess maybe i look young, but i know for a fact i am 22.
he then asked me for my driver's license and started really examining it. for context, my ID is from Texas because I am a Texas resident who is in Minnesota for school. He asked me my birthday and i told him. then he asked me what county. i was confused because i have never had anyone ask me about what county i'm from or what is stated on the ID. i just told him i'm from Texas, so *this city*. he asked me again what county it is. i told him the county which is the same name as the city. his suspicion didn't seem to let up because he continued to examine it. he bent it, tilted it, and even showed it to his coworker. i was confused because it seemed like he thought my ID was fake. it's definitely real and there are easy ways to distinguish a fake Texas ID from a real one.
he asked me for another form of ID and i was confused. i don't carry another form of ID with me because it seemed unnecessary. i thought about it and i told him i had my SS (which i know is unsafe for me to carry), but i quickly hesitated to give it to him because it's my SS! it's sensitive information. i told him i didn't think i could give it to him, but he asked with a seemingly condescending tone, why i couldn't give it to him. he was making me nervous and under pressure, i gave him my SS and i found my old Texas driver's license that Texas residents receive before they turn 21. he finally said that that helped.
i was curious and mostly confused as to why he kept questioning me about an ID, so i asked him if it looked fake. he smugly replied that it did. i tried to be a little funny and asked him if he has never had any Texas resident customers. he answered again, with that same smug tone, that he has and people from all over come to that store. i left and told myself i wouldn't give this store any of my business and i would advise others not to do so as well. i just felt humiliated by the exchange. i have never had anyone in Texas (where you think they would be more suspicious), or Minnesota question the validity of my driver's license.
i do commend this man for making sure he's following the law by not selling alcohol to a possible minor, but again, i want to assure anyone who reads this review, that i am 22 years old and i can legally drink alcohol.
the selection, however, seemed fine and he was nicer to other customers who probably didn't have Hispanic last names, and were likely Minnesota residents, so good job for that I guess.
