The CBR Boutique Hotel in Coimbra is an absolute gem. Perfectly located in the heart of the city, most rooms offer beautiful views of the main square and the river. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with an incredibly warm and heartfelt welcome, even invited for coffee on the top floor, where the view over the square is simply breathtaking. The rooms are luxurious, with exceptional attention to detail. The standout feature of the hotel is the intricate decor: thousands of individually carved marble books, each inscribed with real authors and titles, lining the walls of the hotel, including the showers and toilets. It’s a jaw-dropping detail I’ve never seen anywhere else—it has to be experienced to be believed. The beds are wonderfully comfortable, complete with neck-support pillows, quality linens, and thick, plush towels. Breakfast is a delight, served on the top floor with access to a rooftop terrace, making for a perfect start to the day. With its stunning design, outstanding service, and central location, the CBR Boutique Hotel is an unforgettable hidden gem. Highly recommended!

WOW! We absolutely loved the CBR Boutique Hotel. The location was perfect for us in a square overlooking the river. Everything was on our doorstep. So many great cafes, bars and restaurants to choose from. The hotel team were all super friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. The rooms were spacious, luxurious, super comfortable and quirky. The breakfast was so fresh, with ample variety, simple done perfectly. One our best hotel experiences. Highly recommend.

I really enjoyed my stay at this small boutique hotel. It’s beautiful, it still feels very new, it has comfortable beds and nice amenities, and has a fun and helpful staff. It seems that one early review from a disappointed guest has lowered the overall rating of this hotel, but I would encourage readers to focus on the most recent reviews, which are all very positive. If there were some glitches in the early days of the hotel’s existence, they have certainly been worked out now.||The hotel is also very well situated for exploring the charms of old Coimbra and the university. The bathroom facilities pay homage to the university’s famous library, in a rather fascinating way. (You’ll find yourself examining authors and titles with both amusement and respect.) ||Highly recommended.

Absolutely loved staying here. Great location, really interesting room decor, nice breakfast and a fabulous bed and pillows. Like others, I didn’t love the glass door to the toilet, but otherwise it was an extremely comfortable room. All the staff were great and provided a great level of service. A shout out to Mark, who was really kind and helped us on a number of occasions when my husband wasn’t feeling very well.

Excellent location in Coimbra, very attentive and friendly staff. The room was very nicely appointed. The bed and pillows were truly spectacular, the shower and toiletries wonderfully luxurious. I was uncomfortable with the glass door of the toilet and found the light switches frustrating, but overall it was a great experience and would recommend.

Fabulous Boutique Hotel. Thank you. We will be back! This beautiful boutique hotel is decorated from floor to ceiling, so be sure to take notice, with a nod to the famous Joanina Library at the University of Coimbra. Plan to see this very special library and get your “timed” tickets online ahead of time. The hotel is Perfectly located. Walking distance to everything. Get to know this beautiful little city by taking a fun nighttime or day walking/driving tour (we did night!) or an evening Food tour (we did this!) with "gowalksportugal". Great restaurants nearby. ie "Boutique Tapas & Petiscos", (one of the best restaurants in Coimbra!) The parking: We had a Lux Van! That was a Portugal adventure in and of itself! We pulled right up to the hotel, left our luggage with the lovely Helena then parked our vehicle across the river to FREE parking for the 2 nights we were there. Then it was a close and beautiful walk back to the Hotel across the bridge. The rooms: We were on the 4th floor. So only had to walk up one flight to rooftop. Where their simple breakfast and midnight desserts with tea or coffee were held. They supplied plenty of water, in very pretty bottles whose tops just hangs off so you won’t lose them and can reuse them. Brought home. Beautifully decorated rooms. We had two next to each other. The beds and pillows were incredible. Please tell me where I can buy those pillows. Seriously, I want 2 of them. The lack of WC privacy was something we easily worked around. It gave us all a laugh and funny story to bring home. The Staff: Helena was so lovely and patient as she helped us navigate finding the hotel via phone, at night. And Mark was also super helpful and kind. After tours, eating, drinking and walking all day the complimentary rooftop desserts and coffee or tea at the end of a fun day were a perfect place to reflect on the day and plan tomorrow. I would absolutely recommend staying here when you visit Coimbra.

The staff is welcoming and attentive. The rooms have a charming library-inspired decor, each one uniquely beautiful, with views overlooking the bustling main street. The location is ideal, offering easy access to all the local attractions and nightlife.

I've been in lots of hotels around Europe in my life, but this is definitely the top 1 when it comes to the interior. It's incredibly good looking and amazing. Breakfast on the rooftop is also a must.
