Meat on a Stick Always Wins at LA’s Best Yakitori Spots | Eater LA

"Torrance’s Hasu Kitchen feels like an upscale kind of yakitori experience, but without the price tag. This South Bay gem pegs most of its solo skewers at $2.50 or less, while offering a tightly-packed but still enjoyable dimly-lit dinner experience." - Farley Elliott

Love everything here. Always great service and food. My go to place for izakaya. Good variety of food. The chicken noodle is always good to end the meal

Google
overall first visit - dining area and service was good / yakitori one of the chicken type was salty, assorted pickles was good and plates nicely - yaki onigiri was nothing fancy i could do better at home and large size - good experience maybe u will like - enough for me

Google
Went out for a date night. The staff was quick to greet, and was very kind and attentive. Food was amazing. The house sake was good, and the beers were cold. Will definitely be back to try more of the yakitori.

Google
Absolutely astounding place to dine and enjoy top quality izakaya delights. It was my first time, and I called a few days ahead to reserve a table just in case. Called the day of the reservation and asked if I could move up the time and they accommodated without any issues. Tried almost every skewer available on the menu. Even tried the special of the day 'Jumbo Shrimp' No single dish was lacking in presentation or deliciousness. My highest recommendation to anyone and everyone visits this establishment.

Excellent Japanese Food. Mixed food with Sake and you're set for a good time.

Google
The food quality was good. Impressed by their grilled Rice ball with chicken soup. We found some chicken feathers in one of the chicken wings and they changed it for us right away. The dining experience was very good but the food is a bit pricey.

Google
Authentic yakitori and friendly staff! Flavorful yakitori and the matcha cake was very good! Presentation was perfect with every plate that came out. Arigato gozaimasu for a great authentic yakitori experience!

Hasu is one of the hidden gems Japanese Izakaya places in the area. This is my new to go place for yakitori. The food there is very fresh and tasty. Yakitori is not salty, not greasy, and all taste very good on the spot. Every bite is incredibly good, and the food quality is top notch! The waitress at Hasu is super friendly and they make very good recommendations on the menu. This is a perfect Izakaya place for business meeting or any type of celebration with friends and family. Quick tips: Make sure you make reservations ahead of time. This place is not cheap, but it is totally worth it. The restaurant is located inside the corner of the plaza next to Beach Bowls Acai Café.

Yelp
Great Izakaya with fast service and delicious food. We had a reservation for a Friday night, inside has table and bar seating. Hasu has various skewers, side dishes, and drinks. For food we got Fried chicken, beef tongue, various skewers, and yaki onigiri. Fried chicken (7/10)-not the best I've had but crispy and not overly salty. Beef tongue-(8/10)-tender and not too greasy Skewers (8/10)-could have more flavor but the lamb was the best! Tsukune is also home made and recommended Rice ball (8/10)-smokey and good finish to meal. With 4 drinks and the food price was around $140. Not too cheap but overall solid Japanese restaurant.

Yelp
Came here on a whim to try a little bit of everything and we certainly ordered with our eyes bigger than our stomach! Everything was very tasty! Although heads up: the Kobe beef was gamey and tough which maybe it was a bad day to get it since I don't recall Kobe beef in general being that hard to eat... but I also don't eat it casually.

Yelp
I came to Hasu for dinner on Friday night and left with a fully and happy stomach. A couple of logistics, I would definitely make reservations, it got pretty full while I was there. There is plenty of parking in the shared lot (also has a Starbucks if you're looking for a caffeine fix or hanging out before dinner). The restaurant is small but cozy, I really enjoyed the vibes of the restaurant. As for the food, I tried so many things. My favorites were all the yakitoris (pork and chicken were so good), waygyu appetizer and the beef tongue. They were all decently priced and I was so full by the end. I would also recommend leaving room for dessert. I believe they are seasonal and I was able to try the cheesecake and s'more. Both super tasty and not overly sweet. I also wanted to give a shout out to the servers there. Everyone was so nice and attentive. They refilled my tea several times, brought out the food promptly and just in general gave us good service. I also stayed right until closing time and never left rushed to leave. Definitely want to come back here and try all the other items.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem in Torrance. Yes, it's on the pricey side but it's delicious yakitori! They have a nice variety of chicken, beef, pork, and vegetable skewers. My must haves are the following: Chicken oysters: super juicy, tender, and flavorful. It's the perfect bite Chicken gizzard and thigh : highly recommend Corn: my favorite out of the vegetables I would skip the chicken skin-- it's more on the soggy and chewy side and not crispy/charred like I've had at other restaurants. Pair all of the skewers with the ground chicken bowl rice and you'll be happy.

Yelp
After passing by this place many times, we finally made it inside about an hour before closing. Last call for orders was at 9:30 PM and they closed at 10 PM. This is what we got: Pork Belly with Enoki - This was my favorite! It wasn't salty, no excess sauce on it; a very good bite of meat and mushroom perfectly juicy when you chomped down. Pork Belly - This was just okay. I added the bit of flavored salt that came with the meal to it. Shiitake Mushroom - Juicy, flavorful, meaty. I love a Shiitake mushrooms! Small Potato with Butter - Just a normal, sliced baby potato. Unagi - I think I would skip this one next time. For me it tastes like what I buy at the local Japanese market. I think we also ate Pork Cheek but I can't remember. And then for dessert we had their sweet potato with vanilla ice cream. I don't know how they got their sweet potato to be so creamy inside and that was $13 and not worth it. This yakitori place is well ventilated and there is a big sheet of plexi glass that separates you from the smoke. It's small, so reservations during rush hour is a good idea. Parking is in a big lot shared by other eateries and all of the wait staff were attentive to our needs.

Yelp
A fan of this place! Super kid friendly, a variety of amazing options. Ever since going to Japan, my expectations have gotten higher, and this place doesn't disappoint. Incredible service as well. Overall, a great Izakaya restaurant.

Yelp
We had our Valentine's Day dinner at Hasu, and as always, the food and service were excellent. We enjoyed some of our favorites, including prime beef, pork cheeks, grilled chicken cartilage, chicken oysters, quail eggs and pork belly with enoki mushroom skewers. The seasoned raw octopus with wasabi and the grilled Japanese squid were also incredible. Every bite was absolutely delicious! And for dessert, we couldn't resist the lychee sorbet--it was the perfect sweet ending to an amazing meal!
google avatar

Yelp
Food- very delicious, each item was well executed and flavorful. Not pictured: croquet, chicken hearts, and chicken oysters were also good. Dessert- was so unique and I heard they are seasonal ? It's so refreshing as dessert tends to be an afterthought or always the same at many restaurants Staff- above and beyond, very attentive and kind to us during our meal. Accessibility: the cleanest public bathroom I've been in recently ! There is enough space to move around tables, but it is a medium sized restaurant and fills up fast. Lighting comes from straight overhead I think ? Which was great for taking pictures of the food and didn't bother me (being one who's sensitive to light) but may not be preferred by some

Yelp
Went as a party of four (4), with no reservations beforehand, on a Friday evening and had terrific food! The restaurant had two or three other patrons at the time, so definitely try your luck if you want - feel free to call them as well to see how busy you are or make a reservation via their website. We ordered a few rounds of each of the following items - the prices listed (as of late April 2024) below is per skewer; the photos sometimes have one skewer or multiple skewers, so each skewer is that one per skewer price: APPETIZERS - Seasoned Octopus w/ Wasabi (-たこわさ-): Pieces of octopus dressed with wasabi (Japanese horseradish). $6.00 GRILLED ITEMS - Grilled Salted Beef Tongue (-牛タン塩焼き-): $13.00 PORK BELLY WRAPPED SKEWERS - Pork Belly w/Enoki Mushroom (-えのき豚バラ巻-): $4.80 SPECIAL SKEWERS - Quail Egg (-半熟うずら-): $4.00 - Lamb Chop (-ラムチョップ-): $7.00 CHICKEN SKEWERS - Liver (-レバー-): $3.80 - Heart (-ハツ-): $3.60 - Gizzard (-こりこり砂肝-): $3.60 OTHER MEAT SKEWERS - Kobe Beef (-神戸牛-): $8.00 - Pork Belly (-ポークベリー-): $3.90 - Sausage (-ソーセージ-): $4.50 VEGETABLE SKEWERS - Shiitake Mushroom (-しいたけ-): $3.50 - Shishito Pepper (-ししとう-): $3.50 - Oyster Mushroom w/Truffle Oil (-トリュフ香るエリンギ-): $4.00 DRINKS - Sapporo: Glass $8 - Water: Gratis/Free Not a single thing felt greasy or heavy in any way; everything was perfectly grilled by expert chef(s) and while we were all certainly quite full from the food & drinks, I wasn't in any pain! My personal favourites were the Kobe beef, quail eggs, lamb chop, and the oyster mushrooms. I cannot wait to go back here and try their desserts as well - I hear they're pretty good. Their customer service is stellar with super attentive, not hovering, and kind staff - they constantly cleared our plates, refilled waters, and checked-in (without being overbearing) on whether we wanted anything else. The bathrooms are clean and accessible. For parking, they're located within a strip mall that has other businesses, but we were able to park right in front without any issues - given that it was a Friday evening.

Yelp
This is a relatively new Izakaya, and very close by to my parents. This is one of the restaurants that I most frequently visit if I'm visiting my parents. In my opinion, the quality of food here is of the best Izakaya in Torrance. I'll order any of the skewers, although we particularly like chicken butt and chicken oyster (which is not always found at yakitori restaurants), cartilage, and tsukune. We usually say that you can tell a quality of a restaurant's yakitori by how good their tsukune is, and Hasu has delicious tsukune. I also highly recommend their hasu salad and fried smelt.

Yelp
Place blew me away, it's in the cut so I had not laid my eyes on it yet but wow it's a 5/5 for sure. Service Great the people are super kind right from the get go, food was cooked fast and brought out on time with only two workers and the restaurant full they held it down well. Food Amazing we had 5 dishes and rice on the side. Scallops and cucumber marinated: raw scallops soaked in marinade, sweet and a lil salty with seaweed salad, onions, and cucumbers was amazing start to our dinner. 5/5 Beef tongue came out second was very soft and it came with sesame oil and salt in it that blended all the tastes perfectly and it was cooked to perfection a little red. 5/5 We had two different skewers both pork belly, pork belly asparagus and pork belly enoki. Both were great but the enoki was insane for me. I love enoki and the pork belly was wrapped around both cooked to perfection it was sooo goood 7/5 lol Chicken Soup my wife drank it down before I had a chance to try it but she said she loved it so I'm inclined to trust that judgement as she loved everything else the same as me. Lastly the rice was cooked to perfection they must have a magic rice cooker cause it was nice and firm but soft and sticky while tasting so fresh and great it was crazy. After our meal we got 3 more pork belly and enoki skewers to go with another side of rice. Ambiance was nice and smooth a light idk jazz ish playing in the background not too loud dimmed ish lights but not dark and a friendly but classy vibe. Will deff be coming back regularly thanks for the good food and great time.

Yelp
What an amazing dining experience! I had a 7:30 PM reservation on Wednesday, arrived 15 minutes early and was seated promptly. The restaurant is quite spacious and after I left I didn't smell like smoke, so that's a great sign of good ventilation. Their customer service is TOP NOTCH and super attentive from all the staff who assisted us - they were constantly clearing plates and refilling water even when I was only half way done with my glass. We tried the yellowtail carpaccio with jalapeno, chicken thigh, gizzard, pork belly, pork belly with mentai mayo, pork belly with enoki mushrooms, special chicken skin, kobe beef, shiitake mushrooms, lamb chop, shrimp and basque style cheesecake. Everything was absolutely delicious, especially the kobe beef and the lamb chop and the basque cheesecake... don't sleep on the dessert menu! I loved how all the fattier parts of the meat didn't feel very fatty, it was grilled just right. I'm eager to come back when they have chicken hearts again, as it wasn't available last night. They are located inside a shopping center that has a pretty spacious free lot. Bathrooms were very clean too.

Yelp
This place is legit. Here for a medical conference and was craving for Yakitori and bumped into this izakaya gem! It's located in a tiny strip mall so parking is not bad but not extensive as well. They open daily from 5-9 pm. All I can say is this is one of the best Yakitori I've had in a while. It brought me back to literally Tokyo style Yakitori in one of the narrow alleys. They have a pretty good selection and you get 1 skewer per order so better order at least 2 of each of your favorite. We ordered 2 of each of our faves like chicken meatballs, chicken skin, pork belly enoki, chicken hearts, chicken tails, wagyu beef. They were all PHENOMENAL!! Well seasoned and just grilled to perfection. Liked the fact that in some of their skewers they put tiny portions of shredded ginger which added some umami flavor. Ordered some appetizers - fried calamari and grilled eggplant and both were so delicious. The eggplant had this smoky flavor and the fried calamari was well seasoned and not chewy. And we finished our meal with then sweet potato brûlée and it was HEAVENLY!! This place definitely gives any izakaya place in Gardena and downtown LA a run for their money without breaking your bank. I will definitely come back here and try their other offerings.

Yelp
Every item I had was so delicious. I love the subtle hint of charcoal on the skewers adding to the robust flavor of the skewered items. The ambiance is a very chill cozy upscale Izakaya with great music. I don't go to many Izakayas, but this one is my favorite. The staff are very friendly, attentive and the service never stops even when the restaurant is full. This is a must spot for a dinner date.

Yelp
Great food, amazing service and lovely ambiance. We also got the homemade desserts that are amazing

Yelp
Food was amazing. I'm so glad I was able to try it because I happened to be in the area. All the yakitori skewers were delicious. We tried chicken thigh, chicken oyster, chicken skin, heart, special heart, gizzard, corn and meatball. The appetizer beef tongue was interesting. The rice ball was a hit for kids. The ground chicken bowl is a must.. and don't forget dessert! The lychee sorbet was so refreshing and perfect. I can't wait to come back again!

Yelp
Been here a couple of times already and it's very good each time. All of the skewers are so good and so much to choose from. So great for the picky eaters out there. The service was great too! Easy parking. You can order great skewer without smelling smoky after you leave! Great collection of sake too!
google avatar

Gloria C.

Yelp
I absolutely come Here more often than I should, but the food is exceptional! The service is beyond, they know my name too. Quality of food is definitely the best
google avatar

Yelp
Very authentic and tasted amazing! On the pricier side, but skewers were so yummy and grilled so well

Yelp
Hasu was a lot smaller and cheaper before they tore it down. The new building has lovely decor, but the cost of the bigger space is reflected in the higher prices. That said, the food is still as beautiful, and even a simple plate of Pickles is exquisite. Alternate your sour with your savory, cold veggies with the hot, thin slices of gizzard simmered in miso. The Fried Tofu just might be their best dish. It's housemade and impossibly soft. Skewers are the main event, and all are awesome. Gizzard is a firm favorite, Quail Eggs are soft and savory, and Meat Balls are juicy and plump. Grilled Corn is an unsung hero, Skin is chewy and crunchy, Pork Belly is fatty and savory, and Chicken Hearts are tender and chewy. Nubs of Fried Octopus Legs are lovely, though the portion is a little small. Another favorite skewer is the Oyster Mushroom with Truffle Oil. So juicy and the hint of truffle is perfect. Grilled Rice Balls bring everything to a satisfying end, and as much as I enjoyed the one with baby sardines, I think I still like the regular one more. I love Hasu, but it's too easy to blow your budget and eat forever. The skewers are small and not very filling so you can just order more and more forever. It's a lovely place for a classy meal, but it's not one where you can easily afford to pig out, though that's not a reason not to eat their amazing food. It's not cheap, but I do still think it's worth it.

Yelp
The food was soooo good! We left stuffed and happy. The servers was really quick and friendly and the restaurant was nice and clean. I definitely recommend getting the Kobe style beef and Pork belly with asparagus. The small potato with butter, prime beef, and tomato w/ mozzarella wasn't really a favorite. They weren't bad, I just wouldn't order it again. We came on a Friday night with a party of four and was seated after about a 10-15 minute wait. However, the wait for the skewers were pretty long, maybe a bit longer than 20 minutes for them and it seemed like the kitchen was backed up or they were understaffed. Other than that, I had a wonderful experience.
google avatar

Shawn T.

Yelp
We met friends here for dinner and had a good experience. Small, cute interior with about a dozen tables. Lots of options on the menu, food and service both good. Prices are reasonable.
google avatar

Nelson T.

Yelp
A clean, well decorated, smokeless way to enjoy Yakitori. Arriving at opening, we were already the 3rd table to be seated. We ordered most of the chicken skewers and enjoyed the different types of textures and flavors. My favorites were the chicken tail, neck, skin and beef tongue appetizer. We hope to visit again soon.

Yelp
Wow! Hasu is the most delicious yakitori restaurant in Torrance..hands down! I've been to Shin's & Torihei (which are both great) but Hasu blows the competition out of the water. My bf and I came here by accident about two weeks ago and we were so blown away that I had to come back here for my birthday! Everything I had here was amazing but definitely what stood out the most was the Chicken Thigh, Chicken Breast, Beef Tongue, Chicken Salad, Potato Salad, Fried Chicken, Chicken Wings, Kobe Beef, and Prime Beef--Okay that's a long list but it was a big group of us! Also, their Peach Bellinis are bomb. Oh, and their Sweet Potato Crème Brûlée was to die for! The service is amazing. The last two times they have all been so welcoming and even described the menu items while giving us suggestions. I have nothing but great things to say about Hasu. This is definitely becoming a go-to! Make sure you make reservations way in advance, especially for a large party. This place is amazing (:
google avatar

Mari T.

Yelp
Came here with the family to celebrate my birthday. This was my first time at this restaurant. We got a variety of items which included the following: 1) Salted Beef Tongue; 2) Hasu Salad; 3) Japanese Stripe Atka Mackerel; 4) Chicken Thigh Yakitori; 5) Chiken Meat Ball Skewers; 6) Grilled Shrimp; 7) Grilled Rice Ball; and 8) Taco Waso. Everything was delicious! I particularly enjoyed the salad, yakitori skewers, grilled shrimp, and the mackerel was very tasty and grilled to perfection. Hasu is located in the southeast corner of a strip mall near Artesia and Van Ness, near the Starbucks. The ambiance has a very modern and chic vibe. I definitely will be back again soon,

Juri S.

Yelp
Our favorite go to yakitori place. They use japanese Binchotan to grill. The coal grill makes a huge difference. We love this place especially you get a wide variety of sea food to meat here. Everything is very tasty but obviously as a yakitori place their chicken is the best. Try the Chicken oyster it is so juicy!n Their desert is not too sweet and great as well. My kids look forward to the seasonal panna cotta ( I completely forgot what they call it!) thing that they serve in a glass. It is not super cheap but the quality is up to the price. The service is great as well! try to get a reservation on the weekend!
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
This place is a gem! Clean, quick service and great food! This spot is great for most occasions. I have brought friends, family and clients and they have all enjoyed it each time. Each food item tastes amazing and very flavorful. If I were to make a couple of recommendations, it would consist of: 1. Shitake mushrooms 2. Chicken skin 3. Pork cheeks 4. Premium hot sake 5. Beer. Worth a shot if you're ever in the mood for yakitori.
google avatar

Manuel J.

Yelp
Horrible service and over priced. Dried overcooked food and a cheap decor. Not worth going to unless you enjoy walking in hungry after spending a hundred dollars for two and walking out feeling like you got ripped off. Caters toward Asians and whites, so be prepared if you're not in that category.
google avatar

Veronica T.

Yelp
Got so lucky! I walked in with my sister on a Sunday night and didn't have a reservation, but was able to get seated. The people there were so attentive and kind. The atmosphere is inviting and definitely would be perfect for a date night. All the food was so delicious. We got the yellowtail and tuna carpaccio which was delicious! We also got a couple skewers: chicken oyster, pork belly asparagus, pork belly tomato, and Kobe style. My favorite was the Kobe style beef skewer, which was so juicy and flavorful. The surprise star of the show was the vanilla affogato! It had almonds on top and the espresso shot to pour over. The vanilla ice cream was so worth it even if I'm lactose intolerant. The crisp of the espresso the froze over the ice cream was just the perfect touch. I definitely recommend making reservations here! 10/10 would come again!
google avatar

Noba N.

Yelp
If you are looking for yakitori and tapas to share you won't go wrong at hasu. Longtime favorite, they have chicken oysters which is their specialty. Can't get it much anywhere else. They have grilled and fried version of it. Any of their skewers you can't go wrong. Their izakaya menu is also great in variety. I wasn't sure what their Dessert was called but it was layers Of grape mousse and jello. It was amazing! My friend and I shared and they even brought out an extra bowl so we can split it clean. Waitress service is always friendly. Great for company setting or personal settings

G G.

Yelp
I thought the food was pretty good. However I didn't find value there. At the end, our bill was around $150 for 2 people and we were still hungry. The service was good. Interior is nice.
google avatar

Gina N.

Yelp
Came here Saturday night without a reservation and was told it would be a 30 minute wait. Surprisingly, we barely waited 10 minutes and were seated inside. The servers were super nice. Despite being really busy, the servers still checked on the table a lot and were super attentive. The food also came out pretty quick. The calamari had a delicious batter and the tartar sauce paired well with it. It was one of the best tartar sauces I've had. The scallop was also good but I wish it was more juicy. It was a little dry but still had good flavor. The prime beef was okay. The kobe beef was definitely the best dish overall. We ended up ordering a second plate of kobe beef because it was so good. The bellini was good but the fuji apple flavored sake tasted smoother. The garlic sauce with the potato elevated the dish. The basque cheesecake was the perfect way to end the meal. I highly recommend it if you've never had it!

Yelp
+located in the strip mall on Artesia and Van Ness with drive through Starbucks. Plenty of parking available with even EV charge station. +workers are always nice here. One of the waitress specifically takes good care of us and I love her! +should be able to walk in right when it opens but safer to have reservation especially peak dinner time +their food is delicious. They have lots of chicken parts as skewers that other yakitori place doesn't have offer such as special heart, chicken oyster, or liver muscle. We also like Hasu because they do not douse every yakitori with sauce. Everything is cooked to perfection and you can tell it's made with care. +if you're not much of a yakitori person, they also serve beef and pork skewers as well as lots of appetizers such as salmon carpaccio, various salads, deep fried items (I.e croquette, karaage, fried cartilage, and more), grilled items (I.e. grilled beef tongue, grilled hamachi collar, and etc) and rice/noodle dishes to end your meal with. I personally love hasu more than torihei now. It's a bit pricey but definitely worth it.

Yelp
Visited Hasu for the first time this weekend and had an absolutely amazing experience here! Hasu is definitely a hidden gem and I would eat here every day if I could! We made a reservation for dinner, and were warmly greeted upon entering. It was dark inside the restaurant and I loved the ambiance. Our waitress was very kind, friendly, and attentive throughout the entire experience! We started off by ordering the Hasu salad, which was great! I liked how it had fish and I could taste that flavor throughout the salad. We also got the Takowasa. I am a huge fan of takowasa and really enjoyed this one. It came nicely presented and included onions as well. For the rest of our meal, we ordered the grilled rice balls and several skewers: chicken thigh, chicken meatballs, shiitake mushrooms with wasabi salt, scallop, wagyu beef, prime beef, and corn. All of these were truly EXCELLENT! It's so rare to find this quality of food. The corn here was the best corn I've ever had in my life. For dessert, we tried the white peach tart. I didn't know what to expect, and was really surprised by how it looked when they brought it out. This was beautiful and amazing!! The quality of peach was Japan-quality... SO good! This was a very unique dessert that I am incredibly glad I tried. I cannot recommend Hasu enough and will definitely be back again when I'm in the area!

Yelp
Don't be fooled by the "simple" menu here. Every bite is incredibly, shockingly, and surprisingly good. Just look my pictures. We've been here a few times. This past trip, got surprised by some new experiences: - every dish came with fresh oregano. I never knew fresh oregano can taste so good. - their quail egg skewer is like a soft boiled egg. This was new to me. - their fried chicken cartilage always has a good amount of white breast meat left on the bones Def top 5 skewer / izakaya within Torrance / Gardena area.
google avatar

ashley m.

Yelp
Service was excellent. The skewers are really good. The Kobe and the asparagus pork belly were amazing. Didn't love the eggplant but everything else was solid.

Yelp
This half area has been redone and revamped and it's tucked away behind the new Starbucks of the neighborhood and as many times as I've driven by, I never noticed. Might be a good reminder to slow down once in awhile, because if it weren't for Hubbers noticing, I probably wouldn't have known this place was here! So, we plan to go... and plan to go... and plan to go... and we finally made reservations! Then an issue came up: his flight home was slightly delayed which will cut into their closing time. I had to cancel the reservations because it wouldn't be fair for us to keep it and not show up in time. When Hubbers arrived, we noted that we still might make it (albeit cutting it close!) so we did the decent thing: call. (We figure if it was a NO, there are other choices.) But because they are awesome, they said we can come through. Luckily, LAX and 405 traffic were unusually light and got there with ample time to spare. We were seated and given menus immediately. So may things to try, but Hubbers and I didn't want to throw caution in the wind and order much too many things (like we often do.) A buncha skewers was a given but gotta say we were a little excited about trying new things. CHICKEN MEAT BALLS: A must have at anytime it's on a menu. Hubbers and I liked it. Perfectly seasoned and soft enough that it almost has a crumbling bit. Delicious. HEARTS: I have had my share of grilled chicken hearts but this one has set the bar. I say this solely for the reason that it was prepped with no hint of game. Although I don't mind a bit of that aroma, this really was the best I've had. Great texture, cooked through and through and seasoned without taking away its main essence. Hubbers and I liked it. CARTILAGE: Like the hearts, I have had this at other places as well, and like the hearts, they may have set the bar for this as well. There's that expected tough bite, but this one's wasn't as tough as what I have had from other places before. It set off a different texture of sorts. I enjoyed this as well. KOBE STYLE BEEF: I was curious, but Hubbers much more, so yeah. Why not. And a good pick at that. Cooked to a medium finish and although it was topped with garnish, the beef's flavor remained the center of each bite. Delish as well. GRILLED SCALLOP WITH BUTTER: My favorite part of this skewer was its texture. It wasn't neither over or under cooked. It almost had some fluffiness to it (if that even made sense.) It was almost like biting into a buttery pillow of goodness. Yum! PORK BELLY WITH ASPARAGUS: Like the chicken meat balls, this, too, is a must have. It really is what it says it is: pork belly and asparagus. I'm not even sure if they seasoned this because it didn't feel like it needed anything more than just these two combined. The simplicity is almost baffling - how only two items combined can pack that much flavor. This, too, I would recommend. OYSTER MUSHROOM WITH TRUFFLE OIL: They got me at "truffle." How they managed to grill it soft with a hint of smoke flavor and then that truffle aroma... ***insert chef's kiss here.*** SEARED BONITO: Very reminiscent of seared tuna, but with a different flavor and texture. It came with a dip which I felt it didn't need. I had it as is as to avoid compromising the overall flavor. Not bad, not bad at all. SHARK CARTILAGE WITH PLUM: A first for Hubbers and I. It was okay, nothing to call home about. I felt the amount of sides (most especially the onions) kinda took its main taste. Interesting, but probably won't be a repeat. SEASONED OCTOPUS WITH WASABI: Also a first for Hubbers and I. This we liked. The freshness of the octopus is nothing I have had and the wasabi flavoring upped it a bit. WARNING: this isn't for everyone, but if you feel like being adventurous, then I would recommend it. COLLAR OF YELLOWTAIL: I originally wanted the salted grilled mackerel but was told they were out, so I settled for this. Lesson learned - sometimes settling isn't bad! This was FANTASTIC. Some parts were intentionally (slightly) burnt for the sake of aroma which added to the overall bite. And don't let its appearance fool you - it came with lotsa bites! Hubbers and I enjoyed this very much! FOOD: 5. SERVICE: 5. Our server was incredibly attentive in a non-stalker-ish way. No snags here. VALUE: 5. I felt it was fair for what they offer. PARKING: Shared with others. However, we came near closing time, so it wasn't an issue. We were able to park right up front. OVERALL: 5. It really was a perfect experience. Hubbers and I already discussed a future visit to which I am truly looking forward to.

Yelp
It was all our first time here and they are known for their grilled skewers which are all very pleasing to the palate. Oishi!! Service was the best and they always top off our cup of hojicha for that warm toast feeling. I say "Kanpai" to that. The place was very nondescript, awash in greys but with food full of flavor!!

Yelp
We had a good meal at Hasu. We love izakaya and yakitori. We ordered up a ton... thighs, wings, livers, prawns, scallops, pork belly, shisito peppers. Everything was good. My favorites were probably the wings and the scallops. We also had a whole grilled squid that was extremely good, probably my favorite dish of the night. Altogether Hasu was good. Maybe not as good as Hachi is or Musha was, but still quite good.

Yelp
Excellent food totally recommend this restaurant. The place was packed and busy. Thankfully I had made reservation for a birthday dinner. The servers were very kind and accommodating. The ambience was really nice.

Yelp
I had no idea that Hasu was located in this plaza and I've grown up in the area forever. They renovated the shopping center and I happened to notice it since I saw they are going to open up an açaí place next door. Ever since then, I've been wanting to try it out and I've also heard many great things in the meantime. // DRINKS // Fuji Apple Flavored Sake - Comes in a champagne glass. It's sweet and doesn't really taste like alcohol, but the flavor is great and I feel like it can be a dangerous drink if you order a few. 4/5 Sapporo on tap - Comes out in a chilled glass. The pour is perfect with the right amount of foam at the top. I wish every bar or restaurant poured it as well as they did. 5/5 // FOOD // Salmon Carpaccio - Salmon sashimi on a bed of raw onions with a sauce and topped with red peppercorn and a caper. The sashimi is fresh. I wish it had a little stronger flavor to the sauce. 3/5 Kobe Wagyu Beef Tataki - Beautifully seared beef tataki. Served with raw onions and topped with a fried garlic, green onions, and grated daikon. I wish it had more flavor to it as well. Extra garlic would have taken this dish to the next level. 3/5 Salted Beef Tongue - I loved the salted beef tongue! Perfectly cooked, served with raw onions and a dipping sauce that seemed like salt and sesame oil. Simple, but executed well. 4.5/5 Grilled Rice Ball - The do this very well! Crispy outside, perfect inside with the soy sauce. 4/5 Grilled Rice Ball w/ Cheese - I had to try this out! Grilled rice ball with a slice of cheese melted on the top. It was as expected and the cheese adds a surprisingly nice creaminess to the grilled rice ball. 4/5 Oyster Mushroom w/ Truffle Oil - Oyster mushroom in a truffle oil that was delicious. Sometimes when it says truffle, you don't really get much flavor of it, but this one stood out. 4/5 Pork Belly - Nice, fatty cuts of pork and seared on all sides. 3.5/5 Pork Cheek - I love pork cheek so I pretty excited about this and it did not disappoint! 4/5 Hokkaido Scallop w/ Butter - The scallops were cooked well. I think if the butter had some garlic in it then it would have had a better flavor to it. The butter looked a little watered down so it didn't add too much to it. 3/5 Lamb Chop - A little gamey, but still delicious! The lamb chop is small so it's like a lamb lollipop. 4/5 Chicken Heart - My all time yakitori fave! Cooked perfectly, but this is the first place that I've seen add grated ginger on top of each heart. I like ginger so it was a nice change to it. 4/5 Overall, I through some dishes lacked flavor. Other dishes were perfect and delicious! I was glad I got to try a decent amount of different dishes for my first visit. The service was perfect and they constantly came by to check in and clear dishes.

Yelp
MICHELIN STAR LEVEL?! Ok I'm slightly exaggerating but it's definitely the BEST izakaya Japanese food I have had and I live next to Little Tokyo! This is going to be my go-to whenever I'm in town. 5 Star worthy because: - luxurious seating (nice cushion chairs FTW) and quiet romantic ambiance - they have items not always available at other izakaya places like chicken oysters, gizzards, fried tofu not like basic agedashi tofu but their own style, truffle oil shiitake mushrooms FTW! - food quality is top their hamachi Kama was HUGE bigger than my face - homemade desserts?! Freaking fantastic! Lychee sorbet had pieces of fruit and it wasn't overly sweet like the canned lychees but refreshing. Their sweet potatoes brûlée was decadent yet simple so good! I didn't get to take pics because I was busy feeding my baby but kudos for having clean high chairs.

Yelp
Really nice and attentive staff. I came in a party of 4 on a Friday night and booked a reservation for 8:30pm. We ordered drinks, an appetizer, and tried a variety of skewers which were mostly tasty. We ordered: 1. Fried calamari - small portion size for the price paid but it tasted good. Came with a wasabi powder and lemon for more flavor. 2. Chicken oyster skewers - super juicy, really tasty. We ordered these the first time around and ordered more in the following rounds. 3. Tail - these tail skewers were also really delicious. They had a nice crunch and were tender. This was another skewer type we ordered more of. 4. Quail egg - this was ok, tasted like a quail egg. This was one of the skewers my group thought wasn't worth it for us. 5. Lamb chop - my party ate this one and I didn't. I'm not big on lamb so I skipped. I was told that it tasted good but we decided it wasn't worth the price to order again. 6. Meatballs - these were a little dry, so we decided not to get more of these. 7. Liver - I don't like liver but my party did. They liked this skewer so much we ordered more after the first round. 8. Hearts - I don't like hearts so I skipped but this was another one my party enjoyed so they ordered more of them. 9. Gizzard - this was a little dry for my taste. My party on the other hand enjoyed it so they ordered more. 10. Pork belly - these were juicy, we ordered more of this 11. Prime beef - the meat was surprisingly a little tough, we only ordered these once 12. Pork belly wrapped asparagus- the pork belly wrapped around the asparagus was really thin, we figured we'd rather order more plain pork belly skewers versus this Overall I'd come back again for a special occasion like if I wanted to take my time and have good conversation, but I wouldn't come here for an ordinary run of the mill dinner.

Yelp
I love the intimate, no rush atmosphere for my two-person business meeting here. We ordered many dishes and they were all as would be expected - with no standouts. The sake list has a wide range. We chose something in the middle and we were able to take home half. The French and American wine list was impressive for an yakitori place too.

Yelp
Outdoor Dining 03/08/2021 We had been driving all over town trying to figure out where to eat. Most places were too windy and we kept on driving. I remembered seeing Hasu, so I checked Yelp to see if they had outdoor dining. They have two covered tents set up with heat lamps nearby. I didn't go inside the restaurant, but they just recently re-opened in this new building. It's located in the corner of this plaza where Starbucks is visible on Artesia. TIP: Arrive early because there are limited tables and they fill up quickly! Our meal took about 1.5 hrs, so the wait could be pretty long! We arrived just before they opened for dinner. We got table right away and checked out the menu. The first thing I noticed and decided on ordering was the Seasoned Octopus with Wasabi. Hmmm, in my mind I was picturing it to be grilled... it came out in a bowl with seaweed and onions. I didn't realize it wasn't under the grilled section. Be careful because the wasabi will get your attention! Other than getting the Hasu Croquettes & Octopus, everything else was in skewer form. I love a nicely fried croquette ... this one was really good! The Yakitori items we tried were: Chicken Thigh, Chicken Breast, Chicken Meatballs, Chicken Oyster, Scallops, Okura (Okra) & Pork Belly, Zucchini, Shishito, and Shrimp. I would get most of these skewers again and try some others! You could see the char & taste the smokiness from the grill! Do you know what Chicken Oysters are? I didn't until we looked it up. Here's the definition: "Chicken oysters are two circular-shaped, small pieces of dark meat on the back of the bird, near the thigh. They are often overlooked; however, experienced cooks regard oyster meat to be the best part of a chicken, thanks to its tender texture and mildly sweet flavor." I'm glad my husband ordered this! The meat really was tender and so delicious I forgot to take a picture of them until I had a partial piece left! if you come here, be sure to try them!! It took a long time to complete our meal. We were fine with it! The items were basically brought out one at a time. Everything was hot and we loved that! The service was friendly and they appreciated our business.
