The Best Restaurants in the Domain in Austin

"The Texas restaurant chain’s Domain location serves up a similar menu of burgers (veggie and turkey versions are available too), chicken sandwiches, chicken nuggets, fries, and milkshakes, plus there’s a playground for children. Takeout orders can be placed online or in person; there are Favor deliveries; there are indoor and outdoor dine-in services." - Erin Russell

Google
Like most burger joints they had burgers and chicken sandwiches. My chicken was really good and the sweet potato fries were excellent. The chicken was grilled perfectly and everything went well with the sandwich including the bacon and avocado I added! The young man behind the register was awesome!

Google
Had the Turkey Burger and Sweet Potato fries - absolutely delicious. But my favorite were the sauces. Flavour 100%. They also didn't hold back on that Margarita. It was strong 💪🏾

Google
Well, looks like this is the last time I’m getting food from here. I just noticed they store the burger cheese next to a dirty, wet rag under the grill. Definitely not great. See picture attached. Add that to the lackluster service and zero effort to help guests, sticky tables, and unkept dining room, and it’s a no from me. And this was all on a SLOW Wednesday night! I know fast food can be sketchy, but this was over the line.

Google
I had seen this burger place while walking or driving around the Domain. A gift coupon I received at an Austin FC game enticed me to finally try it. I tried the advertised Verde Burger. The presentation was quite a bit different than the ad (see pictures). It did have all the ingredients mentioned, though, hidden inside the bun. Taste was ok, not great. It was a little spicy, like advertised

Diego Baltier

Google
This is some of the best Burgers ive had, I come to Austin once a year for a school trip and when I come to the domain without fail I come to hat creek and make sure to introduction someone to this not very special looking place, it has always caught them off guard

Google
Family-friendly atmosphere that sets the tone for a great meal. The burgers are juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection, you can really taste the quality in every bite. The menu also has a variety of options, including delicious fries, milkshakes, and salads, so there's something for everyone. The play area is a huge bonus for families, allowing kids to burn off energy while parents relax and enjoy their food. Service is fast and attentive. Hat Creek truly makes you feel at home with amazing food and a great vibe. Five stars all the way!

Google
Every now and then, I get these cravings for a yummy hamburger! My husband loves burgers and, without hesitation, looks for places for us to eat! We decided to come back to Hat Creek at the domain after trying their food a while back with a couple of friends. I'm pretty picky when it comes to hamburgers, I'm more of a chicken person, but Hat Creek has good stuff! It definitely satisfied my craving, and their Peanut Butter Cup shake was the cherry on top for me! It's located in the Domain, so there's plenty of stores to shop around and go on nice walks when the weather is great! The staff was lovely and the service was quick and easy!

Google
Had my first experience at Hat Creek Burger Company and it was nothing short of exceptional. Their burgers are refreshingly simple, yet brilliantly seasoned - a perfect ode to the classics. A special shoutout to their fries and pickles, which were absolutely divine! For all the beer lovers out there, they have a wonderful selection that doesn't disappoint. What's more, the laid-back atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for both kids and adults. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I really enjoyed my experience. I'm a fan of their menu design. It was easy to view and aesthetically pleasing. I ordered the keto burger bowl which had two patties, cheese, bacon, avocado, on spinach and an order of tots. I appreciate the melted cheese and bacon was perfect. The tots had the right amount of crunch and crispiness. There's a LOT of burger joints in Austin. This place is one of the better ones, for sure. Check 'em out!

Yelp
It was my first time going to Hat Creek, after reading the reviews I made my way over. We ordered The Big Hat and The Veggie Burger (duh, for me haha). Both burgers were delicious! Now I should note that I took the mustard off of my burger but I would suggest keeping the mustard or trying a different sauce. And speaking of sauce- the hat sauce and the happy sauce are both terrible. Sorry. It's my truth though. Any who, we also ordered a side of french fries and a side of sweet potato fries. It's something about the cut of the sweet potato fries that fell flat for us so I'll pass on those next time. The customer service was great, and the staff are helpful. Hat Creek is quite spacious with indoor and outdoor seating, with the outdoor seating being covered. I did a pickup order to-go. Also, be aware that there is only street/garage parking within The Domain. Will I go back? Sure thing.
google avatar

Kelly Dues T.

Yelp
Great Hat Creek location! It's sort of urban. The staff are always friendly and helpful. There's lots of seating. Parking on the street can be difficult. There are a few 15 min spots that open up across from it. The parking garage is off Cherry Sage. There's a green space across from the Apple Store if your kids need more space to run.

Yelp
After waiting in line a decent amount of time all we wanted to order was a milkshake. Was informed they had nobody to make it until there is nobody in line. Even though the time to make one shake is how long it takes one full order. He obviously didn't want to take my order. Walked away empty handed.
google avatar

Mariana G.

Yelp
I tried the classic, a double meat hamburger with American cheese, bacon, grilled onions and "hat sauce". I'm not entirely sure what's in the hat sauce, but it tasted like a combination of ketchup, mayo, and something peppery. It's a solid fast food burger.
google avatar

Briana S.

Yelp
The sweet potato fries could use more salt and the chocolate shake had a good amount of thick whipped cream that's more akin to cool whip vs the spray stuff out the can but the shake itself was just vanilla blended with chocolate syrup. However, the turkey burger was delicious. I do kind of wish the burger patty itself was thicker but it was beautifully done and the three sauces they provide gives you a lot of options. I liked one best with the fries and one best with the burger but I think there's something for everyone. Definitely will be coming back.

Yelp
After reading reviews and perusing the menu online, I was very much looking forward to visiting Hat Creek. Unfortunately, it didn't go too well. I went to the location at The Domain and arrived before the lunch crowd showed up. It's a smallish location although there's a decent amount of covered outdoor seating. I ordered a cowboy burger as a lettuce wrap. It came out sloppy (see photo) with a pile of lettuce and not done very neatly. It made it hard to hold the burger and stingy toppings so I ended up removing most of the lettuce. The burger patty itself was pretty good quality, not very well seasoned but you could tell the meat was better than your typical ground round. Their signature Hat Creek sauce was also pretty tasty, reminding me somewhat of a thin Thousand Island dressing. However, I ordered bacon as an add-on and it was awful, chopped into small pieces that were tough as cartilage. They almost could not be chewed. Bacon should be placed in strips on a burger but I think that maybe it was chopped to hide the horrible texture. The server at the counter was pleasant enough but a little dingy-had to repeat my order a couple times and after it was rung up, I had to remind the staff that it was to be a lettuce wrap as it wasn't printed on the ticket. I left some comments on the survey link from the receipt but I haven't as yet heard anything back from management. I'll update the review if I do. There are a lot of great places for burgers in Austin so it's a pretty competitive market: JewBoy, Dan's, Buddha Burger (a recent discovery for me) or even Five Guys for that matter. That said, if this is typical of Hat Creek burgers, I'd prefer pretty much anyplace else.
google avatar

Jono B.

Yelp
The customer service was very good. It's simply a decent burger place though. Especially for the price, I'd much rather go to other burger places. P Terrys is much cheaper and has better food IMO. Maybe I caught them on a bad day. I'm not saying the food is bad by the way, just saying it's simply decent and that I personally will seek other burger places before I seek out Hat Creek. I wouldn't discourage anyone from going and this review is not meant to. I just think it's...decent at best.
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
great! Food was quick. Delicious. Play area is nice, not too big where kiddos can get lost. Everything is enclosed.
google avatar

Mason E.

Yelp
Fantastic burgers and fast service. Burgers are better than McDonald's but it also cost more than 99cents but it's worth I had the big hat and my parents were in town my mom had the original dad had the cowboy fantastic food and the ambience was pretty good reminded me of a burger stand.
google avatar

Chelsea L.

Yelp
Hat creek has really great outdoor seating. Lots of tables, benches, and slides for kids. I got the dirty worm shake, which tastes like cookies n cream with a few gummy worms on top. The gummy worms are hard to get with a straw-you can use a spoon. This was a pretty good shake. The fried pickles were too salty. Unfortunately, I could not finish and I am a big fan of pickles. All I could taste was salt with every bite.

Marci F.

Yelp
I went because the reviews said it was great! Boy! were they wrong! I've had much better burgers off the interstate before, the sides were meh, too. my family I was visiting said it's really the play areas the mom's love not the food so much. aha! The ambiance is designed for kid play, the food is a la cart, everything is an add-on price wise and not a basic burger to start with to play or alter. I'm not really coming back to the area except to see family and definitely won't be coming back here. On a side note, the service was friendly, helpful and kind. The place was clean but I didn't use the bathroom so your on your own there.

Brandon K.

Yelp
ordered pickup, food was hot and delicious. Even with my 10 minute walk home it was still fresh. Will be going back.
google avatar

Kerra S.

Yelp
Love this place. The domain location has a great outdoor seating area right next to a play area for children. Great beers for around $4 a cup, great sweet potato fries, and great burgers! Only thing I don't like here is the fried pickles (I'm picky with those things!)
google avatar

Toya M.

Yelp
Every one at this location is always nice and friendly, customer service is great! My food is always good served fresh and hot the way I like, popular spot. Although they stay busy they still take care of you right away.
google avatar

Yelp
This has been the fourth time I drive all the way out here and they don't accept cash because only one of their registers work like that. Ridiculous. I had to drive home empty handed. Their management is out to lunch and I sincerely DONT RECOMMEND this establishment. Get your sh-- together. This country is falling apart.
google avatar

Bryan R.

Yelp
This was our first time ever trying this place. I got the cowboy burger and the wife got the classic. Best burgers we've had in a long time. Sooooo goooddd!! Even the kids liked their burgers and grilled cheese. The place was nice and clean. It was raining out so the kids didn't get to play outside but it looked fun. The sweet potatoe fries were awesome and the regular fries were seasoned well also. The 3 different sauces they have are all good and have different tastes. I can honestly say I don't ever remember tasting anything like them. We will definitely be eating there again before we leave town. I wish they had some onion rings.
google avatar

Chris D.

Yelp
Came to this place because of the rating. I am very pleased that I stopped here. I got the cowboy burger, fries, drink and chips/queso. Food was great and delivered to my table promptly. The lady taking my order was very friendly and made the place feel like a home spot. The atmosphere is one of the most welcoming for families. There is an outside area that has a small play area for children. If you're considering a burger, this is the place. They also serve beer on tap, what a bonus!!!

Lambros P.

Yelp
It was good. The fries were seasoned very well and the burger was very tasty. Staff was also friendly. She brought it to our table. Cool location amd comfortable location.
google avatar

Kenneth D.

Yelp
Excellent Burgers. Great local spot in the Domain. The pretzel jack burger is divine. Highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Mary C.

Yelp
What a great place. Tables inside and lots of picnic tables outside in a covered area with a cute trailer and slide for the kids to play. We all had beef burgers with fries. Burgers were delicious and I can't stop raving about the fries...hand cut but slim and piping hot! I never think to put mustard on my burger but it came that way so I went with it and now I might have to continue on with that! Much better than In and Out, Shake Shack, Johnny Rockets, etc.
google avatar

Drew T.

Yelp
5 stars if you have toddlers, this place is great! The food is really good but be prepared to spend about $15 for burger and fries. The fries come in a massive portion, so they're definitely shareable with the whole family. I got the Cowboy Burger (bacon cheeseburger) minus the veggies. It's not the best burger I've had, but many factors above most fast food places. Their chicken and milkshakes have been excellent when I've gotten them on the past. The main downside is it's one of the few places in the domain that has an area for kids (a positive if you have little ones). They are normally really cute. I watched one today dip his nose in some fry sauce and exclaim "I tasted it!"... made me smile. Other times the parents can let them get out of hand and you can't wait to get out of there. Quick tips: - If you're a regular put your number in their Fivestars system when you pay. You'll earn points towards free items/ discounts. - Don't forget to grab the fry sauce. It's delicious!
google avatar

Michelle A.

Yelp
Good, simple burger place. I ordered the classic and it came with two delicious patties, lots of onions, cheese, bacon and hat sauce. The hat sauce is kind of a mayo, ketchup based mix? I honestly don't know but, it was good. They have fry sauce and a mustard sauce that dip well with the burger too. No veggies on this burger, so keep that in mind if you like that. They might be able to add it on, but I didn't think to ask. The fries were nice and crispy, no complaints there. It's a little expensive for a burger, but pretty comparable to Shake Shack and other competitors, Overall, hits the spot and would visit again.
google avatar

Sarah R.

Yelp
We had a good experience here. The service was friendly and fast. They have tables inside and outside. They have highchairs and an awesome playground. It is all fenced in and the ground is padded so it is safe and fun for the kids. The food was really good too. They have fun sauces by the drinks and napkins station. My husband ordered their classic burger and I got their grilled chicken sandwich. I would definitely recommend this place.
google avatar

Jade F.

Yelp
Delicious burgers - I got the classic and yummy chicken sandwich for my husband. Just perfect and friendly service. If you have little ones they have a playground too!

Yelp
To start off I did show up 5 minutes before close. Not on purpose but we're from out of town and saw it driving by. We showed up and they let us know we could order but must leave afterwards. My kids just truly wanted to play outside so I asked so we can still sit outside and she told us no. We own 3 restaurants ourselves. I know not everyone has the same opinions when it comes to customers, but as for us we accept you and give you the full experience even if they showed up few minutes past closing. I was a little bothered but we said okay and still ordered. The entire staff was at the front staring at us order. It made me feel rushed and I messed up on what I meant to order. One person in the staff starting laughing when I changed it to what I had actually wanted. I had also asked for a shake which the cashier had to see if they were still available. Then she proceeded to tell me I couldn't get a cookies and cream shake without the whip cream or else it's not a cookies and cream. Which is not the case. Cookies and cream is the flavor and whipped cream is an addition. The sauces were already put up. Again, things that in my opinion should still be available. If it was 8:55 when we arrived, I dont know how early everything was put up when closing was 9:00. The last thing that really got me was when I was waiting for my food, the cashier told me next time come earlier. I get it, like I said we're Restaurant owners, but I definitely was upset this trip. I don't give bad reviews entirely on the experience but by the food. But when it came to the actual food man was I disappointed. The chicken was dry and not even what I ordered. I just asked for no onion, but was missing the lettuce and tomato. First meal after a full day at the waterpark and it was a huge no.

Yelp
super delicious and made to order. i got the southwest burger and the pepper jack cheese truly made a difference. i also love the frysauce with all the burgers
google avatar

Canyon S.

Yelp
I ate at Hat Creek in the Domain for the first time today at lunch with my family. I ordered the Southwestern burger with the cheese fries. The indoor seating is all tables and chairs, and the spacing is a little cramped. There is outdoor seating, but with temps approaching 100° we didn't feel like outdoor dining. The food arrived promptly and the order was correct. We all had soft drinks which you fill yourself at the fountain and my Diet Coke was well mixed. My burger was good with a half pound of meat and came with Jack cheese and peppers. Despite the peppers, it seemed a little bland, with nothing to really set it apart. The cheese fries were good, but again the toppings were a bit sparse. I visited the men's room and it was clean and functional. So, it was a good, solid burger place that I might try again if I'm in the area. But nothing stood out to make me take a special trip.

M S.

Yelp
By far the worst burger I've ever had in Texas. I ordered the cowboy without pickles and sweet potato fries with a peanut butter/ Oreo shake. This was the first time I ever been to the hat shack. What a Disappointment! When I got the fried there were already cold, as if they had been sitting for awhile. The burger was ridiculous, two slices of bread, the type of wonder bread you'd use for grill cheese sandwiches with two beef pattys and melted cheese in between patty's. If I had known I'd be charged near $20 for this I'd save my money or just go to 5guys. Honestly i would've been better off at Wendy's or McDonald's.

Valerie S.

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere. Quick service considering it was lunchtime. placed an online order and it was ready before they said it would be done.
google avatar

Starr W.

Yelp
My favorite Fast Food Turkey Burger place. Anytime I go to this location I am always greeted with the most pleasant staff, and they are always ready to assist. When it comes to my Hat Creek cravings. They are REAL! I typically get the little turkey with pepper jack, mustard, no tomatoes, and the (free) grilled onions and jalapenos. MMMM MMM And their fries are the best. The patty is always cooked to perfection, the bun is soft and yummy. Everything is freshly made daily. This is one of the best Turkey Burgers in town, hands down. A locally owned, amazing place for kids as there is a playscape outside. There is a small area inside to eat, and larger covered area outside with huge fans and mist sprayers on a Hot Texas Day. Go try it, there's a yummy burger waiting on ya!
google avatar

Corey W.

Yelp
Food was slightly ok and the margarita was absolute trash. I wouldn't serve a this trash my enemy
google avatar

Angela G.

Yelp
Got the paleo bowl and it's one of my favorites! Delicious and ready for pickup on time! thanks Hat Creek!
google avatar

Amber G.

Yelp
Ordered online for easy pick up. 1. Order was ready for pick up on time 2. Fries were really good 3. Turkey burger did not have cheese or avocado as I requested (and paid for), and the burger was a crumbled mess. Way too salty. Will not likely try again.
google avatar

Matthew W.

Yelp
This place is a great spot to take your family. They have a big playground with a variety of burgers to choose from and a decent beer selection. I ordered the classic with fried pickles and a lazy circus hazy ipa. The burger was cooked to perfection and the fried pickles paired very well with them. My biggest complaint is I have had better fast-food burgers in Austin before..
google avatar

Brett J.

Yelp
Ohhhhh my Goddie way toooo hottie!! These are the best fries I've had since I've been in Texas! Seriously... thin and crunchy on the outside, hot and soft on the inside, the perfect amount of salt, and all presented in a standup bag! DELICIOUS! The signature burger was good with its spicy sauerkraut and sauce with two patties of meat... DELECTABLE! My boys "little hat" burgers we on home made rolls instead of buns and they DEVOURED them. The place was cool... smaller then the round rock location but what would you expect when it's located in the Domain. It might be smaller but they still had a great play area! Indoor or outdoor seating! And good food! My boys and I really loved this stop on our boys day out!
google avatar

Netta S.

Yelp
Safety first. Tables well spaced, an open air eating section, hand sanitizer readily available. The cowboy burger, 2- patties, red onions, bbq sauce and pickles. Texas you don't serve good pickles. My husband said it's missing umph!! It's pickled but not dill or sweet and not sour pucker enough. The burger was large and juicy, flavorful cheese, nice bite from the red onion. Fried to rival McDonald. The shakes appeared thin, but on contrary , held there own. Chocolate was good, but the strawberry shake left me sitting amongst s mounds of berry plants, inhaling the summer sweet and juiciness.

Paul G.

Yelp
Great food. Fast service ordered delivery was here in half the quoted time. Loved the variety of sauces.

Rene G.

Yelp
They have never got my food order wrong. I eat here occasionally and every time I came, always greeted whenever there was a cashier up front. Cleanliness is acceptable even during busy times.

James B.

Yelp
Always great service and awesome burgers. The shakes are really good. The chicken strips are very tasty as well.
google avatar

Kate M.

Yelp
Always a solid stop on a roadtrip with kids. Kids love the chicken tenders and fries. I like the chicken sandwich and cobb salad. Kids get to get some energy out. Better quality than most fast food.
google avatar

Shannon B.

Yelp
Who cares about the food? This place has a great playscape, $1 local craft beer/wine on Thursdays, half-priced supper-time burgers on Tuesdays, free wi-fi, and is just a couple miles from my house. That's all I need to know. . . . Oh, alright, I tell ya a bit more. The food is just fine for the fast variety and it's even better when you remember that Hat Creek is a locally owned, home-grown business that's gone from burger truck to taking over Central Texas in just 10 years, with 8 brick & mortar locations in operation and 4 more on the way this year. Besides the typical fast food breakfast, burger, chicken, and shake options, it's very nice that they also serve local Cuvee Coffee and Strange Land craft beer on tap. Hat Creek gives back by partnering with Mobile Loaves & Fishes to make sure that hungry people have a meal and they are always popping up at other charitable initiatives like Blue Santa, Make-a-Wish, Austin Diaper Bank, and so on. I *love* to give my business to a company who contributes to our community in this way. If you're a member of The Thinkery (our local children's museum), you can show your card for 15% off your tab at Hat Creek. Mama likes discounts! Mama also loves fermented, sour-tasting foods, and Hat Creek has great homemade pickles and spicy sauerkraut, plus a tasty assortment of tangy sauces that are perfect for slathering on or dipping into. And yes, they even serve FRIED PICKLES. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Note to picky eaters and parents thereof: We've found that the Hat Creek burgers sometimes have too much black pepper for our son's delicate palate, so we usually go with the chicken "flasher" nuggets or grilled cheese option for him. Non-red-meat-eaters can choose from a turkey burger, veggie/grain burger, or grilled chicken breast for their sandwich or salad topper. I think their service is plenty fast, but those in a big hurry will be happy to order online https://mavn.is/hatcreekburger/ and go straight to pickup upon arrival. Enjoy!

Yelp
Delicious! The buns were so good! Easy walk up counter for ordering and plenty of indoor and outdoor patio seating. A favorite spot for a burger or a grilled chicken sandwich in the Domain. Good choices for sammy add-ons including even sauerkraut.
google avatar

Pragya S.

Yelp
One of the best veggie burgers in Austin. Great kids play area. Phenomenal heaters and fans make a great outdoor eating area. Go with gator tots over fries. Highly recommended
google avatar

Evelyn A.

Yelp
I was craving a milkshake the other day around lunch time, and since I've walked past Hat Creek plenty of times and never gone in I decided to give it a try. I got a veggie burger, fries, and of course a chocolate milkshake! The milkshake did not disappoint, and everything else was pretty good too! They have a variety of different sauces that are yummy, but all tasted pretty similar to me. The restaurant is cleaner than many fast food places and the staff are very friendly. The outdoor patio is nice, and there were several families with kids enjoying the play area which was very cute. Overall a great experience!
google avatar

Teeta T.

Yelp
I think maybe I just expected more from this place, it was just expensive fast food, I expected more of a home style burger and fries that you would get from a local mom and pop place but it didn't taste like that
google avatar

Janne T.

Yelp
.::To-go Review::. We were lucky enough to stay at a bnb right across from Hat Creek. It was convenient and fast. We loved it so much that we had their burgers multiple times during our stay. I can't comment on their customer service since I wasn't the one who placed and picked up the order but I can vouch for the quality of their food. Their combos are very affordable but it doesn't taste cheap. The burgers are moist, perfectly seasoned and the buns tasted fresh. Their fries are soooo addicting! I just wish their online ordering platform was working when we were there. It makes ordering so much easier when it's for a big group.
google avatar

Yelp
Fast food hamburger; it's a great value. 2 yum thumbs up. Family friendly outdoor playground for the kids. Outdoor seating under a big patio, next to Playground. Looked like a great place to play hide and go seek. If you're looking for more peace and quiet you may want to consider sitting inside with the air-conditioning. Kids were noisy. Sweet potato fries were perfectly crunchy Ice tea was fresh with real lemons and All kind of sugars Hamburger was delicious with lots of crisp vegetables.

Yelp
What a treat! The gluten free bun was amazing. Unlike any other that I've had. I'm assuming it was sourced locally because it isn't any of the major national gluten free brands. The chicken nuggets and the sauces... SO GOOD!
