Google
Very very very very awesome menswear/outdoors shop. Fantastic brands. And great selection of footwear too. Just such an amazing curation of bags, trousers, clothes. Picked up some Gramicci trousers. Might go back as I noticed they sold Porter Yoshida bags and I have been dreaming of one for a while. You MUST stop in if nearby!!

WEBSITE IS VERY BAD, EMPLOYEES ARE NOT PROPERLY TRAINED. I hate to say it but I won’t be shopping here again. And it sucks. I like the concept of the store and they carry interesting quality products. However, their web and In-store experiences are really bad. I noticed they had advertise for a 40% off flash sale between nov 14-20. The link to the ad leads to an error 404 page (meaning the page doesn’t exist). Once on their homepage I found another link leading to the 40% sale section (the discount, meant to be applied automatically on check out). Much to my surprise after picking a few pants and accessories no discount was applied. I contacted them and it was clear from the conversation that I would be best to just go to the store in person as the website issue wasn’t goin to be resolved anytime soon. When I got to the store a few hours later, the person helping me had no idea what was on sale or not. But said to me: “take a look around and I will honor the discount”. So I picked a few items and when I came to the register the same person said, “ oh sorry none of this is on sale”. So I left empty handed. I understand how difficult is to operate a small business, it’s not easy. But you simply cannot have mistakes like this happen on your e-commerce platform and when your customers are actually the ones making the effort to make a purchase, a minimum effort from the store to do right by the customer, would be a good idea so not to alienate patrons.

Your Black Friday sale is a mess! Descriptions are in Chinese? Can you guys please fix this? I loved the website and have been shopping with you guys since COVID. But lately the last few promotions have been terrible. Is anyone working even look at their own website?

Google
Small outdoor outfitters and hiking shop, not many stores offering this type of specialized selection anymore in the NYC area, REI is fine they are bigger and offers more selection. But surprisingly Hatchet outdoor supply has a more upscale option, it’s curated carefully to give a higher end consumer an elite selection. Swedish and other European brands , Japanese and small American companies are featured. Take a trip to the shop and peruse the small but unique choices. Walk down to the waterfront are to see the best of what Brooklyn offers as a walking neighborhood and quaint houses to dream about living in. Walk along the Brooklyn bridge park pedestrian path. To discover a new neighborhood hidden by the bridge. The hatchet outdoor supply is a great first stop for a backpack, walking socks, a hat, a Jacket, shoes, portable camping chairs.

Google
Terrible customer service. Provided wrong stock counts on website for recent collection release. Refunded without warning or explanation after a considerable amount of time. For the stock that was available - waited over a month with no arrival, contacted the carrier but was referred to the 'sender' as the shipping label was created but the item was still awaiting. Meaning the stock was potentially lost sometime in-between leaving the store and arriving at the post office. Tried to avoid leaving a review but am receiving minimal clarity in their email responses. Slowly accepting will probably have to accept the loss. 10/10 will never shop here again. Hopefully Quiet Mountain Cafe will choose an alternative store to release through next time. Appalling.

Google
It doesn't seem that this business wants/needs walk in customers. I live in the neighborhood and every time I've been in, no one acknowledges you, even if you walk around for quite a while. Often the staff are all behind the counter looking at their phones. I did purchase something once and there was such a heavy smell of cigarette smoke near the register area that I couldn't wait to finish the transaction and leave. It's a shame because the store has what looks to be a highly curated selection of brands that you can't easily get in other local store such as Matador, Porter Yoshida, Topo, but I'd rather go in to Manhattan than be made to feel invisible one more time.

closed for an event, no notice on google or website, waste of time, workers were nice though

Worst customer service been calling and emailing for a week about an order that i placed for them to tell me the item is not in stock this is the second time it happened to me It's unbelievable. Why would an item be available on the website to order then they tell you it's not available i asked for my refund dont waste your time.

Yelp
Purchased a jacket online, it was on sale and not refundable. I communicated via email a number of times and never received a response. The jacket I ordered is a men's size medium. It arrive today and there's absolutely no way it's a medium--I couldn't get my arms through it. I asked someone who wears a small to try it on and they couldn't either. It has to be women's sizing. Finally, it was advertised with a full price of $800, making the discount I received seem sizable. The full price on the garment tag shows it as $500, not $800. Just incredibly disappointed with my whole experience and will never shop here again.

Yelp
HORRIBLE! Spent good amount of money on a pair of shoes, to only get one shoe that was discolored. One dark beige shoe and one dark grey shoe! When I contacted them, they said they sent me a pair of display shoes. So knowing they were discolored, they still sent me the shoes. The first response email I received from them said they would give me partial payment back and want the shoes back. ‍ NOPE!

Yelp
A favorite shop here in Brooklyn. Haven't come across many outdoor shops out here, but this was such a pleasant find to stumble upon. You'll be the most fashionable hiker.

Yelp
I had to pay $21.00 to return an item. They won't cover returns. I contacted them for an return mailing label and they sent me their address and would not provide a shipping label.

Yelp
I've been trying to visit Hatchet to drop some serious coin on some supplies for the last month but can never get a date when they're actually open. Went one Sunday when their hours were supposed to be 12-6 but they were closed at 5:30pm. Went another weekend and they were closed for Fall inventory. Tried to stop in during the week and the sales rep told me to come back between Friday and Sunday. So, went on Sunday at 12:39pm and they were closed. Truly maddening. I know they do online ordering but I want to actually see the gear before I commit to it. It's really too bad as I'd actually like to support local small businesses but I guess I have to take the money to REI.

Yelp
Love the quality and curation of outdoor and lifestyle fashion brands here and the level of knowledge the people working here have on their product assortment. Bike and pet friendly!

Yelp
Store hours were clear and stared 7pm closure for Friday's. Once I arrived at the store at 6:15pm the store was closed and employees were just staring. Please adjust your hours so customers don't arrive at your store at the wrong time. Horrible manner in the way it's being run.

Yelp
The guys that work here are awesome. The bag selection is top notch. Love coming in here to browse....They are pricey, but they have killer sales ( like, 70% off at times)

Yelp
Great store. Great selection. Always very knowledgeable and very helpful in finding exactly what I am looking for.

Yelp
My wife and I planned a trip to Banff National park for a 3 day backpacking/Backcountry camping trip and Hatchet Supply Company has supplied us with all our needs to make sure we are fully equipped to take on any obstacle nature has to hurl at us. Zach was really helpful with his insight and was able to answer all our questions. Customer service was A-mazing. We were fully satisfied with our gear as I felt I got the highest quality products available. Highly recommended!

Yelp
I came here not expecting much based on a couple of the reviews. I was pleasantly surprised to not only find a great selection of outdoor gear but was also helped to find the best jacket for my needs. Staff was very knowledgeable about their stock and didn't seem to be pushing for a sale. Nothing annoys me more than overbearing sales people just looking for a commission, there wasn't even a hint of that. These guys seemed more concerned that I get what I want than I just buy something. In the end I left with not only a great fall jacket, but also a desire to come back again for my next purchase.

Yelp
Hatchet Outdoor Supply Co. is awesome. What they are best at is curation- everything they have is cool and hard to find outdoor / camping gear. The staff is also incredibly friendly and accommodating.

Yelp
Passed it a few times driving and figured it would be similar to a couple other boutique "camping" stores in Brooklyn that were really just poseur joints. Finally popped in today and was surprised to find it's much better than that. Great selection of bags and packs, decent selection of jackets and pants, okay selection of footwear. Brands are not the usual commonly found elsewhere but are a more selective range of smaller companies; most were new to me. Where the store really shines is with the peripheral equipment: hatchets, knives, eating/ cookware stuff, small waterproof bags, etc. I wouldn't suggest this as the place for a novice to set up their core gear or for anyone wanting the range of Paragon, REI, etc. but for those who are pretty geared up and want to augment or upscale with choice pieces this place is perfect. About the staff: They don't jump on your case the minute you walk in. Some might view that as aloof but I see it as giving you a little space and time. I found the two guys to be friendly, helpful and knowledgeable: able to speak about product at length and in relation to the general market. Thumb up.

Yelp
Why don't you just put a sign outside that says "No Girls Allowed?" It would make things simpler and the attitude of your salespeople clear up front.

Austin W.

Yelp
Just ordered some pants, perfect fit. Best quality pants I've owned probably. Called to ask staff about the product, knowledgeable and nice.

Yelp
Yup. Those that complained of rude, uninterested sales staff are correct. I encountered the same. I hope the owner, who may in fact be one of the rude, uninterested people there when I was there, realizes that customer service is what makes or breaks a store, especially one where the merchandise is very expensive and easily available on the web at often a lower price. I will pay more for an item if the customer service is helpful and attentive.

Yelp
Hatchet had a great sale over the weekend, and I did purchase one item at great discount, but I have to say, I'd have trouble going back. Despite being very convenient, and having a good - though small - collection, the staff was god awful. There was this little brat sitting on the couch playing with his phone who could have cared less whether I had any questions, or if I wanted to actually purchase something. He was utterly and completely rude, even to the other staff members, pointing his finger and saying do this, do that - while he sat there and did nothing. I hope to god he was just somebody's son and wasn't getting paid for that. There are too many other shops in this city for me to help pay the paycheck of someone that inconsiderate. I should also note that the card machine was down so I had to pay with cash.

Yelp
They carry some pretty expensive brands, and their selection is decent. Not much in the way of backpacks or shoes. But you can come here if you want to spend $190 on a button down shirt.

Yelp
having had bad experiences with boutiques pretentious nature and style snob like ways, I was extremely relieved and overly impressed with your store associate River. Came into the store lost and beat by the polar vortex. My poor wingtips had seen better days. All I knew was that I needed some boots bad that could help me perform better during the current season's ass kicking climate. River, was knowledgeable, down to earth, Southern (im from North Carolina) and in a general just good dude. He help me purchase several pairs of boots along with knit scully's and a bad ass mini Swiss army knife. Overall, I love this store and the people who run it. Hatchet Outdoor Supply Co. is my new go to for all things manly, bad ass and essential. Sorry for the long plug. slow day at work.

Yelp
Great outdoor gear and men's clothing. Excellent addition to the neighborhood.

Yelp
Quality goods and nice/helpful/knowledgeable staff. I like how they don't hound you to buy something, you can come in and hang out and peruse with no worries. Soft indie rock takes you away from the hustle and bustle of Atlantic Avenue. Definitely one of my favorite neighborhood spots.

Yelp
Went in here on my day off to splurge a little on a Patagonia windbreaker. Found a great one on sale. Really liked the vibe in here--good chill music playing, cool art on the walls, and the staff were a couple of good bro's. Gonna be back here in the fall for sure.

Julie R.

Yelp
Rude dudes. I have been to this shop more than a few times (at least half a dozen) and purchased several items as gifts for my boyfriend. Only once have I received friendly service from a staff member (who I can assume was named Raphael based on previous reviews?). The other two owners are rude, unhelpful, and managed to make me feel like I don't belong there despite the fact that I am a paying customer. Will not go back.

Yelp
I was so excited when this place first opened, I no longer had to trek all the way to REI in SOHO! Sadly, I was greatly disappointed by the selection of climbing gear, with Brooklyn Boulder so close why not carry items to compliment? They had some really great camping essentials and a large section of the shop was on sale. I have to note however that the staff was atrocious. One short guy (possibly the owners son?) definitely hung over from last night and still reeking of it - was trying to persuade me into purchasing a jacket from the couch while playing on his phone, telling me I was looking "fresh". I've been in before when he wasn't there and the other guy is much more knowledgeable about product but I just can't shake this last run in with this brat. If the staff improves I'll be back in until then I'm trekking it over to REI.

Yelp
I went to Hatchet because I needed a birthday gift for my dad and I'd heard great things -- and I'd definitely recommend checking it out if you are looking for high quality menswear. Friendly staff -- helped me pick out the perfect jacket when I didn't have much of a clue what to look for. Plus, the guy working there is really cute... said they're doing a breakfast/croissant stand there now? Can't wait to try!!

John L.

Yelp
Really cool store. I've been to this store several times and the staff have always been friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Nice lineup of quality gear from outdoor oriented brands. The guy working there when I stopped by (possibly the owner) was helpful and pleasant to deal with. Picked up a Filson bag this weekend. Will be back for a coat later in the fall. Nice addition to the neighborhood.

Kate G.

Yelp
I went into Hatchet last week to buy a birthday present for my little brother and had a great experience. The staff seemed to be extremely knowledgable about the products in the store and helped me pick out an awesome jacket for my brother even though he is extremely picky. They were easy to talk to and fun to be around. I will definitely be going back to Hatchet in the future.
