Ocean-Blue Cocktails Are Apparently Back in Style in D.C. | Eater DC

"Navy Yard’s recently reopened Japanese restaurant now has a bonafide bar area, where patrons can gulp its new Ocean Water cocktail on draft (rum, vodka, Curacao, pineapple, lemon and lime) for $12. “Slightly carbonated, very refreshing, and very crushable,” says manager Brian Marvel." - Tierney Plumb

The 17 Most Beautiful Restaurants That Opened in D.C. This Year | Eater DC

"The fourth ramen shop from Daikaya Group takes after a Tokyo district full of restaurant supplies, which explains all the bowls, baskets, brushes, and sake receptacles artfully arranged on the walls. Clear cases filled with shokuhin sampuru, display models of items like ramen bowls or gyoza, make for a three dimensional menu. — G.H." - Tierney Plumb

Some of D.C.’s Best Chefs Gave Sneak Peeks of Their Next Restaurants | Eater DC

"Chef Katsuya Fukushima told me the Daikaya group’s Navy Yard ramen shop Hatoba is waiting on permits but nearly ready, and his preview bowl showcased a spicy broth built on a backbone of seafood stock and red miso paste; Hatoba will use noodles sourced from Sapporo, like the group’s other restaurants." - Gabe Hiatt

Google
GREAT FOOD!! Everything was so delicious. I ordered the tasting menu and thoroughly enjoyed it, however we were there for about 2 hours, purely because they served each dish very slowly. Regardless, had a lovely time and would recommend for a slightly fancier meal. :)

Google
Amazing food. Cozy little place. A lot of pickups and door opens constantly, but food was very good indeed!

Google
This is genuine sushi u can find in copenhagen ! The staffs r friendly, and the sushi and spicy mayo edamame and the deep fried prawn were all great ! Wanna come back here for sure !!

Google
For a weekday dinner this was a great choice. Small sushi place. I had the Bite of Kyoto menu plus seaweed salad and it was too much for me. Don’t understand why someone else said food portions were small. Just order enough 😀. Photos are of this Bite Kyoto menu. I had to skip the dessert as I was fully satisfied.

Google
Are you kidding? The quantity is small and poor. If you are a sushi lover, do not expect that you will be full. We were three people and paid about200€ and left hungry. There are sushi restaurants with better quality and reasonable prices.

I ordered from Hatoba a few times using Wolt and sadly always ended up missing items from my order. Yesterday I ordered again and ended up with half of the items. When I called the restaurant to complain they told me it’s the driver responsibility to make sure that the order is packed correctly.. which I hardly believe as the drivers can not most likely recognize if a sushi roll is California or New York. Also they can’t open the food boxes. The restaurant answer was a poor attempt to place their quality responsibility on an intermediary. After that I got in contact with the delivery company to get the missing items reimbursed and found out that they receive frequent complains for missing items with Hatoba so I’m never gonna order delivery from them again as I start thinking they underpack on purpose. Also we ended up splitting 15 roll pieces over 5 people..

Google
Excellent food, we really enjoyed! The atmosphere after 8:45pm however was more “when will you finally leave (we sat down 8:15) because they obviously wanted to start cleaning and go home. The absence of music made it more awkward.

Google
The staff is wonderful, they checked on us and we're very pleasant. I do feel like the plates were not ready in time, since we had order two of their set menúes, some of the plates we had to wait while others came very fast. Please make a reservation, this is a small place ana can get very thigh. The sashimi was good, the rice felt a little undercooked.

Yelp
This was some excellent upscale sushi! Such a cute little place. It was a half an hour until close and they gladly seated us right away. We really enjoyed our food and would recommend to anyone who enjoys sushi.

Yelp
We love sushi so we decided to try this place on a late Sunday night for dinner. When we came in, we saw the sushi chef preparing food and everything on the counter looked amazing. Pros: - We were seated at a bar facing the street which was a lovely view - The staff were very sweet - The interior is gorgeous! And the vibe is so nice with the candles and cozy lighting - It was also quite full so that was a good sign - The presentation of the food is beautiful - The tempura was nice and crunchy Cons: - The sushi rice on everything we ordered (rolls and nigiri) was a bit hard and didn't taste super fresh - The quality of fish did seem good but all the fish was slightly bland and I found myself using soy sauce more than I usually do - the sushi ginger was very dry Overall, wanted to like this place but it just wasn't a 5/5. Maybe it was an off night since most of the reviews here are very positive.

Yelp
Hatoba is a nice little spot for good quality sushi. The restaurant is small but lively and located near the waterfront. Reservations are recommended but you might get lucky with a walk-in. Otherwise grab take-away and enjoy near the water. The staff were all really friendly and the food comes out reasonably quick. The quality of the rolls were quite good and the salmon sashimi was excellent. The Devils roll did have a bit too much sauce for my taste but I just cleaned most of it off. This is a casual sushi spot with good value for the money so definitely worth a visit. Enjoy.

Yelp
I came across this sushi spot in Copenhagen just walking around at night. It's a cute little spot and the ambiance was great. I was glad there was a convenient coat rack to store my heavy coat while I ate. We ordered a chef choice nigiri and roll platter and the sushi looked fantastic. However, the sushi was actually quite disappointing. The rice was actually a little hard which affected every bite of nigiri that we had. The fish itself was decent but none of it was "melt on your tongue" good. I struggle to understand how you can have decent tasting fish that looks incredible but mess up on the rice. The tempura rolls were my favorite as the perfectly crispy tempura was covered in tasty sauce. The service was also incredibly slow. To be fair, there was only 1 waitress working that night but we couldn't get her attention to even pay our bill until every other patron at left.

Yelp
Good good food, great service. Wow, a fun atmosphere and good people, everywhere. They are all nice, kind and helpful! Generous portions of fish! Good eats and NOT a huge price tag for Japanese food. Go today!

Yelp
Lovely. Good food. Friendly and competent staff. Could not have been happier with a nice sushi dinner. Be warned, the gyoza is fish...so if that's not your thing. Thanks for such a nice dibber

Yelp
The food here was lovely! Fresh flavor combinations and buttery soft fish. My waitress was warm and shared some good recommendations with me. I would definitely come back here.

Yelp
Walked in and we were immediately greeted by a very friendly host. As you walk in the Sushi prep area is within feet of the door, there is also a small cash/host area. The 8-10 tables in the restaurant. This is a very cozy place with large windows that look out to the Islands Brygge park. We were seated, and provided menus straight away. There is plenty of items to choose from and we decided to go with the Devil's Roll and the Sizzling Salmon Roll. The Devil's Roll and had tuna, cilantro, avocado, cucumber, spicy sauce and kimchee, and surprisingly the cilantro and kimchee are very complimentary flavours. Also having cilantro in a sushi roll was something new. Our other roll was a Sizzling Salmon - which had salmon marinated in a yuzu, sesame and soy sauce, then grilled and topped over a salmon, avocado, basil and spring onion roll. There was also a side dish of the sauce to dip the pieces in. The yuzu gave the roll a really interesting citrus flavour, which made this so very different than any other sushi we've had. Both were really very different than what we've had in other places, and what I would consider a bit of a Danish slant on Sushi. The funny part of this place is the tea cups. We had ordered green tea and I've seen bigger bowls to mix your soya sauce and wasbi together. You might get 1.5 sips from the cup. The tea doesn't get a chance to get cold. Overall I love this little place. The service was great, the sushi rolls were fabulous and I like how the different flavour profiles are meshed together to get something all together unique. Great job Hatoba. I'd highly recommend to anyone in the area.

I was very impressed with Hatoba's sushi! It was very fresh and the presentation was fantastic!

Yelp
Delicious and fresh sushi right on the harbor in Islands Brygge. The restaurant itself is beautiful but to be completely honest I've only ever ordered take out. Next time I need my sushi fix I plan to dine in and enjoy the amazing waterfront location. I don't eat sushi very often but my boyfriend has eaten here numerous times so I let him do the ordering. We went with the hato savory menu which comes with 4 pieces of nigiri, 1 uramaki, and 1 kaburimaki for 315 kr or $47. We chose laks as the uramaki and sizzling laks as our kaburimaki. The sizzling laks was by far my favorite but everything was delicious and filling. They pride themselves on using sustainable fish and get their salmon from Norway. This is one of the best sushi spots in Copenhagen and definitely worth trying if your in the area!

Yelp
Haven't written a review for a while but this sushi place made me come back to Yelp to do a review. I've been to this place a number of times when I've visited Copenhagen and I can't stop my myself from craving their sushi. It is so good and very close to the sushi I've tried in Japan. And their takeaway menu is very reasonably priced for Copenhagen standards.

Yelp
This is a great restaurant! Service was quick as they brought out the miso soup and edamame appetizers only five minutes after I ordered it. The sushi was well-prepared with the chefs cutting pieces of fish and vegetables precisely onto individual stacks of rice and seaweed. And you can't beat the price. If you're staying at the DanHostel in Copenhagen, it's only a six minute walk. Definitely worth the try.

Yelp
While in Copenhagen- looked for some great sushi...found it at Hatoba! We were greeted as soon as we walked in and were very impressed with the menu. The quality and quantity are a great value for the price but more than that the sushi rolls are delicious.... we loved it so much we came back the following night and took an order to go and enjoy as a picnic. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
This small place has it all - great ambience, great food and friendly staff. We had the 5 course menu which was absolutely fabulous. You can taste that everything is fresh. Every course was great, no disappointment whatsoever. Presentation of the food is beautiful, mic between danish and Japanese. Both are simplistic so it works very well.

Yelp
Defo the place to go to for good sushi, usually have it as take away. Have only eaten here once, service and wait for food was a bit long - looked like they were a bit too busy with the take away's.

Natasha K.

Yelp
Very delicous sushi! I have visited Hatoba this summer with my mom. We ordered delux 24 piece sushi menu for 300kr and it was simply some of the best sushi I have ever had! The rolls were nice and big, with lots of different flavors and ingredients. I was surprised that we could get full only with 12 pieces each, but we did, simply because of all the good flavors. Sticks and Sushi can go home. Will go back to Hatoba again!

Nathan M.

Yelp
Wow, what a good cosy and small sushi restaurant! It costs aprox. 700 dk for two persons, but it is well worth it. The best sashimi and sushi I have eaten since... Ever? Except the saté, wich was very good, but was served after the sushi rolls, and therefore way to heavy on the stomach. The miso-soup was tasty, amd the umami effect was everywhere and the size was good. 5 stars!

Yelp
Excellent dinner last night. Fish was fresh and rolls were amazing. Service was outstanding. Was very much enjoyed by us and our young kids! Highly recommend!!
