Highlights

Hattie Jane's Creamery is an artisan ice cream shop located on the public square in downtown Columbia, Tenn. Its menu consists of creative ice creams that rotate consistently based on availability of ingredients, plus a handful of staple flavors such as Chocoholic, Tahitian Vanilla and Mulekick, made with beans from Columbia's Muletown Roasted Coffee. The ice cream, in addition to waffle cones, hot fudge and caramel syrups, and fresh-baked cookies and brownies, is produced on-site in batches that are small by design to ensure the highest quality. By partnering with local farms to source many of the ingredients, the creamery offers a true homemade, unique experience that is signature to the A. Marshall brand.

Came here for a sweet treat and certainly recommend. Giving a 4 star because my parfait was all whipped cream. I was looking forward to all of it not just the whipped cream. Ice cream selection is good. The waffle cones are the star of the show! Love walking I there while they are making them. It smells delicious!

Google
the blonde girl working behind the counter was insanely unprofessional and unwelcoming. i ordered a cold brew float and she replied with an aggressive attitude and nasty face saying “yeah, but can you grab it from the fridge?”. she was giving me a mean face the entire time even though i was nothing but polite the whole transaction. so not only did i do the half the work for them, but i wasn’t even treated nicely. please get better employees with good customer service skills who don’t bring down the atmosphere of your business!

Took a cub scout group here after touring the Polk home. The ice cream was great and they accommodated a group of 10 people. The kids enjoyed their combinations. My son loved the cookie monster. Great location and I will repeat.

Located inside Puckett’s restaurant, in the corner of the square. Quality, delicious ice cream. You can also do your own parfaits or floats. Some flavors are seasonal, but you can usually find what you want in a pint size to take home too. Theres also usually a fun 21+ flavor with alcohol in it. My faves: lavender & honey, mint chip, pecan pie My husband’s faves: nana puddin (banana + nilla wafer), cookie supreme (cookies & crème on steroids)

I'm lactose intolerant. Had the dairy free strawberry with dark chocolate chunks. Got sick not half an hour after words. I don't live in Columbia, and it's going to be a miserable hour ride home.

Google
The last two times I’ve come here the service and attitudes are terrible. This time I guess we interrupted their free time sitting on the counters talking and neither girls greeted us , just stared blankly waiting for us to order. As for the last time it was a different girl with an attitude problem. Sucks that the ice cream is so good but the employees always suck.

Google
Poor Customer Service. We visited 02/22/24 at 7 pm. Closing time is supposedly at 7:30 pm. The girl there closes the store at 7. We tried to buy ice cream but she just shrug said sorry but her tone was not apologetic. Hope the management or owner will do something about that. We were out of the premises and looked back, turns out she was watching us and waving mockingly at us. UPDATE to my Review: The management reached out to us through email and attached an apology letter from the lady explaining her action. We appreciate the response from the management. Hope this serves as a learning experience for her to do better in their job and life.

While on an adventure with Alexander and Ollie, we swung by for some deliciousness today. The shop is conveniently located on the square with ample indoor dining space and 2-3 outdoor tables available. The shop was clean and bright. The cute window stools offer a chance to watch people strolling by while enjoying your treat. While the 2 young workers weren’t overly welcoming, they took our order efficiently and even provided a pup cup when asked. Our total was as a bit over $14 for 2 scoops + the pupper, a bit pricey, but the experience and outdoor atmosphere made it a nice stop on our adventure. The ice cream did not disappoint. We will fly by again.

Yelp
This place brings a feeling of an old fashioned soda fountain , happy and fun feeling! The Ice cream is homemade and uses locally sourced ingredients. Service is very friendly and helpful if it is your first time there, they offer free sample before choosing !! Would highly recommend!

Yelp
Great ice cream shop tucked into a corner of the town square in Columbia, TN. Lots of great, unique flavors - the seasonal Roasted Peach Cobbler flavor was fantastic! And while the prices are a bit steep, you get what you pay for! My two scoop waffle cone was a meal by itself! The servers were very patient with multiple sample requests and still managed to keep the line moving along.

Greg D.

Yelp
Ice cream was stellar and the employees were extremely nice. I have and would recommend!

Yelp
While visiting Columbia, I yelped ice cream spots and came across Hattie Jane's Creamery. Upon entering the establishment, I felt like I was in a hip old style ice cream parlor. They have plenty of flavors and they use local products in their ice cream which is always a plus. I sampled Sweet Corn & Blackberry, Minty Chip, and Honeycomb. I ultimately settled on a Unicorn Sundae made up of one scoop of Honeycomb and one scoop of Hattie's Vanilla. They add a mini cone, cotton candy, and lucky charms marshmallows to make it complete. Go big, or go home....amiright? Prices were reasonable, the service was fantastic, and the atmosphere was perfect. I will definitely be making this a pitstop every single time I'm in Columbia.

Brittney M.

Yelp
Our family LOVES Hattie Jane's! Their ice cream has great flavor, the place is always clean and the people working there are always super friendly! Our family each has our favorites, but I have yet to try any of their flavors that aren't amazing. The honeycomb is hands down the best ice cream o have EVER had! Has a great texture and flavor, not overly sweet but oh so satisfying. As a mom, I LOVE the little step for kiddos to check out the ice cream, it's the highlight walking in for our little ones to look at all the amazing colors as they pump themselves up for their sweet treat!

Amber A.

Yelp
This is by far my favorite ice cream place. The best tasting and more simple ingredients. Service is fine. All of their stores are decorated adorably. My only negative is I wish their Franklin location was still open!

Janelle E.

Yelp
Love this place. Their prices are a little high, but everything is fresh and the flavors are delish! The banana pudding makes a delicious shake!!

L E.

Yelp
Love this ice cream place! We live in Nashville and when I have friends visiting I take them to Columbia and that spot is always a must. I just wish they would open a place in Nashville.

Grace A.

Yelp
I gave it a 5 as they use local dairy farms and they have a Lavander flavor ice cream and a Honeycomb. Sweetness was perfect (not too sweet).

Angela L.

Yelp
My husband and I had went to dinner with some neighbors and had a terrible dinner experience but then we remembered it was First Friday on the Square and so we said lets go see what is going on and get some ice cream! Yes in February lol! This was the first time that my husband and I have tried the ice cream here but our neighbors are always in there! One of the neighbors and I got the granola berry and was ultra good! My husband is a plain vanilla person and I don't normally like vanilla, but wow...what a great flavor of vanilla, I ended up helping him finish his! (-: The environment was very nice and prices were reasonable, we will for sure be going back!

Grace W.

Yelp
The ice cream was great, but the service was very far from it. We went in on 9/15 and both of the workers were so rude to multiple guests in my group. We even heard others leave saying how rude they were. I've worked in customer service and understand bad days, but this just about ruined our night. We will not be back.

Melissa R.

Yelp
Some flavors are a bit...lacking. And the prices are over the top. I love supporting a local business, and will return, but.

Eddie C.

Yelp
So Good! Ice cream was rich and creamy and flavors were delicious! Good variety of tastes and they even have a few tasty baked treats. Reasonably priced, smooth and definitely worth a stop!

Brigitte S.

Yelp
Cute atmosphere with a unique variety of flavors. Friendly staff and right on the square

John S.

Yelp
Great little ice cream shop on the town square, connected to Puckett's Grocery. We sampled everything and landed on the toasted coconut and nana' pudding. I'm not exaggerating when I say that was probably the best ice cream I've ever tasted, totally addictive. I wanted to take a pint home with me but at 10 bucks a pop I couldn't reconcile it, I should have bitten the bullet cause I'm going back today to retrieve the thing. Kids will love this place, they have board games and plenty of space to roam. The only negative here is this place is expensive as hell. 3 single scoops and two small coffees...$18 and change. Too bad they don't have more variety but what they do have is superb.

Trennda J.

Yelp
Amazing lighting at night with a warm and cozy atmosphere. This a great place to just sit and chat with friends after eating at Pucketts restaurant next door. The ice cream is made fresh and they use nothing but the best ingredients. It may be a little expensive for ice cream but it's well worth it. The staff is friendly and welcome you to try a sample of any flavor that you like.

Frank H.

Yelp
Not quite to the level of Jeni's Ice Cream, but a very solid little franchise. Their product is very tasty, the atmosphere was inviting, and the facility felt clean and well-kept. The have an okay selection of flavors, but are overshadowed a bit by some other ice cream establishments when it comes to variety. Still, it didn't bother us any as they had plenty to like. We were very happy to support local with tasty ice cream that did not disappoint!

Jess D.

Yelp
Excellent homemade ice cream served by friendly people. I had the cookie jar and it didn't disappoint.

Kelly W.

Yelp
Yummy yummy in our tummies!!!! Can't wait to come back to this place!!! Totally tasty selections (also offers a few non-dairy options - yay!!!). When I come back, I'm so going for the ginormous fudge brownie my mouth watered over just under the equally ginormous sprinkled sugar cookie!

Dylan S.

Yelp
Great old fashioned ice cream and great flavors as well! Hattie's will always be a favorite of my family and I.

Mark M.

Yelp
Small shop. Good flavors. My daughters coned were stuffed full ! The chocoholic was great. Girls loved peanut butter brownie batter !

Alexis B.

Yelp
Very charming ice cream shop with inventive flavors! I stopped in on St. Patrick's Day this past weekend and was excited to learn they had a Lucky Charms marshmallow flavor. So I got that, of course. The texture of the ice cream was great, and the flavor was fun and delicious. I definitely felt like a kid eating it. The shop itself is large and bright (enter through the door to Puckett's), and the employees were great as well. No complaints!

Aaron B.

Yelp
Above average ice cream, however for the serving sizes in comparison to what you pay it's not worth it. Not many if any kid size options either.

Memory B.

Yelp
Great little local creamery! And they even had dairy free ice cream that was amazing!

Bailey M.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. Very clean establishment. The handmade ice cream is to die for. Great variety of flavors. Will defenitley go back!

K M.

Yelp
Excellent ice cream. Right on the town square. Flavors and names are easily understood (sometimes ice cream names are too elaborate ending up not descriptive so that you need to ask what is in them). Welcoming, clean, bright, generous portions. The pick me up you need in the late afternoon. Nice to patronize a local chain.

Dawn C.

Yelp
Really good homemade ice cream with creative flavors. We had nana pudding ice cream and goat milk blackberry. Nice space too with plenty of seating and games for kids. Also, tables outside. This is located in the town square. Cute book shop next door.

Hilary R.

Yelp
Strolling around the square we were pleased to find this place open on a Sunday afternoon. We asked for whatever was most popular and got 2 scoops of Honeycomb in a waffle cone. It was huge! So glad hubby and I decided to split it. The waffle cone was definitely homemade and was the perfect compliment to the ice cream.

Biz M.

Yelp
Happy to say HJ's has stepped up their game. We sampled all the flavors tonight and the texture has improved quite a bit - smoother and lighter. Still not as thick as most places, but those other places are adding thickeners. (Tsk tsk) Proud to see them trying new flavors already: very surprised to see a Rosewater, one of my favorite ingredients and rather hip for Columbia. It was very well balanced - good job! I also got the vegan coconut, one of the best flavors by far. Super good actually. Mulekick (coffee) was excellent - nice and strong. Got Oreo mixed in, which was awesome. On the critical side, some of the flavors are still too weak (particularly the Cereal Bowl). And I would love to see more cream in the recipe to help the texture and body. But definitely an improvement, and we'll be back for sure.

Dawn S.

Yelp
It was fun. Not sure it was good. I got the unicorn hot chocolate. It was a sugary jolt tho. The icecream looked good

Abigail C.

Yelp
Best homemade ice cream. They have a variety of flavors s.its busy during the weekends. They're homemade ice cream is worth th wait. Simply delicious. Assorted flavors

Sara M.

Yelp
Good flavors. Not a whole lot of them but the variety was nice! Cute shop. I'd return again.

Nikki R.

Yelp
Seriously delicious ice cream in a beautiful shop. The young girl that was working was super sweet and patient with everyone!

Heather M.

Yelp
Hattie Jane catered my wedding with an all-you-can eat ice cream bar. We had two flavors and five toppings, all our choice. The store coordinator was amazing and helped us get everything set up for a wedding an hour away from Columbia. On the actual wedding day, there was a mishap with cups but it was quickly solved in part because we had some on hand. Overall, the ice cream was delicious and our guests really loved it. If not for that mix up, it would have been an easy five stars. Really great ice cream.

Robin M.

Yelp
The CUTEST little place downtown! We like going to Pucketts and saving room for ice cream- such a special experience and a go-to for when family visits us! Always delicious and offers unique variety of flavors if you are feeling adventurous!

Amanda F.

Yelp
Excellent service! The ice cream and espresso and their shakes are absolutely delicious!!! Highly recommend!

Samuel C.

Yelp
Great ice cream! But Bad service. I walked in after a family and the lady served the family but told me they where closed. When you tell a costumer to leave you are saying you don't want their business. Again, great product but the service is poor.

Shari W.

Yelp
The service is wonderful! However, I learned yesterday that my cafe mocha is now only made with WHOLE milk - 2% is no longer offer. My only other choice would have been coconut milk. Lost me as a cold season customer if type of milk no longer has options for coffee drinks, hot chocolate etc.

Julie T.

Yelp
We were having lunch at Puckett's and came next door to Hattie Jane's. The flavors were all delicious and our server Karyson was wonderful. She made the best two cups of coffee as well. Highly recommend this stop off the interstate when you are traveling on 65. We are from out of town and so glad we stopped in!

Josh D.

Yelp
Anyone who gives this place less than five stars is just flat out wrong, confused, or a dairy hater! Best ice cream ever! Great atmosphere! Update: we came back 3 days later and had the Elvis. 6 out 5 stars. Phenomenal.

Angela G.

Yelp
Yummy ice cream, pretty decor, friendly staff. We tried mule kick, chocoholic, minty chocolate chip, pistachio, and they were all rich in flavor yet fluffy in texture. So good. We'll come back for sure!

Paul J.

Yelp
Pretty good ice cream in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The prices are a little high for the area. The way they swirl their ice cream is unique and allows for numerous creative combinations.

Tracy A.

Yelp
Such a cute place- ice cream is homemade and absolutely delicious! Definitely a must stop in Columbia!

Jon T.

Yelp
Had our daughter's first birthday there. It was a great venue for family and friends to get together (about 25-30 people). We had fun, and the ice cream and toppings were great. Staff was super helpful during the party and didn't mind the kids, decorations and cake we brought. Definitely recommended for a small party! Pricing is totally up to the customer based on number of flavors and toppings and whether or not you'd like a private (closed) party or not.

Ella H.

Yelp
The ice cream is absolutely amazing and so is the staff. I go in between classes twice a week because I can't get enough of it!!

Ryan D.

Yelp
Mostly standard flavored but well done. Banana pudding flair and pistachio are GREAT! Mule Kick is right up your alley if you love coffee. Definitely be back.

Shiela M.

Yelp
Hattie Jane's provided the ice cream for my daughters wedding on 6-2-2018 in Lawrenceburg, TN. The arrived on time, in fact they arrived early so there was no stress on the bride and groom! The 3 servers they sent were polite, friendly and very professional, even when we forgot to provide them with lights and they were serving ice cream in the dark. Sorry, but they just rolled with it which we truly appreciated. The ice cream and toppings were a huge hit and all the guests were raving about it. They brought plenty of ice cream so guests could have all they could eat. They were set to serve for two and a half hours which provided guests several opportunities to go back for seconds and thirds!!! At the end of the night, when we told them that we thought our guests were probably finished, they offered to leave ice cream and toppings with us just in case and so the bride and groom could take some home with them the next day! They went above and beyond what we expected! Thank you for helping make this day extra special for them and the people that love them!!!
