In Port Perry, ON at the legendary Haugen’s Chicken & Ribs, John samples their top secret dipping sauce. Some patrons have been known to drink it straight, will John?

Service was laid back and helpful. Our server was friendly. The chicken was good but I'd skip the ribs next time I go. Also glad they have two options for sauces as I wasn't a fan of the original sauce, too tomatoey. The harvest sauce was much more to my tastes. Reminds me of St Hubert's sauce. Had the strawberry pie for dessert. It was ok but I'm a pie snob and wasn't a fan. I would prefer less of the strawberry gel they used.

So I stopped at an old favourite spot today, I wanted to share a bit of the past with my daughter, we have many times spoke very highly of the chicken, ribs and sauce at Haugen's, this used to be one the best places for BBQ Chicken & Ribs, The nostalgia was at a peak its been over 20 + years since we enjoyed their mouth water dishes. So we stopped to get our favourite Whole BBQ Chicken & Full Rack of Ribs a-la-Carte. Well, either my memory has tricked me or I've been a fool for a very very long time and perhaps nostalgia should be left as a memory. we brought home what was going to be a feast amongst feasts, from days gone by, when cooking was an art and done with love, care an pride. With a huge grin on my face and very pleased with myself for providing this meal for the family. Imagine my immense disappointment when I unpacked this meal, what was supposed to be a whole chicken was cut into quarters and looks like it has been sitting under heat lights since yesterday, there is not a spec of BBQ anywhere to be found and I'm pretty sure the full rack of ribs, was split in half cause it has to be the smallest full rack of ribs I've ever seen in my life. Needless to say the nostalgia has worn off, days gone by are exactly that. I will no longer have the desire or urge to stop in an d buy anything from there again. The days when Haugen's was compared to fine dinning or 5 star status are long gone. Goodbye Haugen's rest in peace's.

Have been twice now this season after driving by all my life up to the Kawarthas from Toronto and never stopped in! Had the same server both times. She is lovely. The ribs are my favourite from everything tried so far. Also quite enjoyed the strawberry rhubarb pie I ordered this time. Chicken sandwich was ok. Wouldn’t order again. Not a fan of the tomato based sauce option on offer. But that’s just a personal choice I am certain. Comfortable nostalgic setting when you’re craving that classic combo.

We just happened to be driving by and decided to stop and pick up BBQ take out, it was so good!! The only thing we missed out on was the pie for dessert as I can see by the other reviews!! We will have to go back on another Sunday drive.

I am visiting from Florida and a huge fan of Swiss Chalet. Haugen’s chicken and Harvest Sauce are even better and great fries. Jaden was very attentive and friendly. I’ll be back!

Such a lovely, cozy restaurant. It feels very nostalgic (although it was my first time visiting). There is a window at the front of the building where you can watch the rotisserie chickens roasting before entering the building, which is a fun feature. The dining room is very large with lots of seating. Staff were friendly. The food was very good, and the whole place smelled amazing! I got the chicken and ribs with fries and the country harvest sauce, and it tasted like a much better version of Swiss Chalet. Our wait time felt a bit long, but I think that just shows that they make everything to order, so it is fresh! Our food was HOT when it arrived. We got pies for dessert. The fresh strawberry pie and the strawberry rhubarb pie were favourites among my family. I will definitely be returning when I am in the area again.

Had a great experience here tonight. Wonderful server (Angela). Food came out quick and hot. Loved the country harvest dipping sauce, didn’t really care for the original bbq sauce (tasted like tomato soup?). Chicken and ribs were both tasty, reminds me of Swiss Chalet. The coconut cream pie was amazing. Glad we made the stop.

A really good experience. We were there off hours, so it was somewhat empty. However, it feels like the kind of place that is packed after Sunday church. The place is HUGE - enough seating for a couple hundred people. The food was hot and the service was very good - reminiscent of a diner where everybody knows everybody. You will NOT leave here hungry. Portions are generous and good quality.
