Ace Hotel’s Big Craft Beer Weekend in Palm Springs, and More Desert News - Eater LA

"Rancho Mirage fast-casual spot Haus of Poke, which launched last year from former pro boxer Tim Bradley, is one of the latest tenants to take space in the massive Downtown Revitalization Project. The new location’s menu is pretty much the same as the original with customizable poke bowls, seaweed-wrapped “burritos,” and a variety of milk and Boba teas." - Lizbeth Scordo

We had dinner here with friends one evening while walking around downtown Palm Springs, and it was really good! The location is perfect and they have both indoor and outdoor patio seating. We liked the menu, which included lots of sushi and even some good vegetarian options. Prices are moderate. We spent $115 for dinner for 4 people (only including one beer) I would definitely recommend their poke bowls, which have ample portions. We also enjoyed the cucumber salad and the veggie sushi. Service was fairly good and friendly. We will definitely recommend this restaurant to others who are looking for decent sushi or a good poke bowl.

The best Poke Bowl I've had since Hawaii. Very fresh, lite, subtle flavors. Clean establishment, including bathrooms. Cold beer, and great service. A wonderful meal!

This was a quick and easy spot to grab some sushi, and poke. Parking in downtown Palm springs can sometimes be challenging, but this restaurant was easy to get in and get seated, the food was served quickly and was delicious, and the service was delightful. The location is very close to the art museum, and close to all of the activities for the Thursday night festivals downtown. We enjoyed the jalapeno stuffed bites to start, and then ordered a variety of rolls and sushi bowls to enjoy and share amongst group. It was the perfect amount of food and everybody was very good. The staff and service were delightful, there when we needed them and left us to dine when we were busy with our food. There are dozens of restaurants in this area. If you are in the mood for poke, or just need a quick place to sit down and feel comfortable and unrushed this would be a terrific choice.

Food was great. I liked the poke bowl. Though my wife felt it lacked spice... we ordered the siracha. It was all good... food, ambiance and the staff getting our order... but we also ordered spam fries... it took forever. Only complaints we had. But the staff was kind enough to reimburse us when we canceled our order. They even said sorry... and we appreciate that. They also explained the cook was doing something else.... we understood.

Google
Delicious bowls and sushi in downtown Palm Springs. Order at the counter. The order is then prepared quickly. The food was delicious and the portions were reasonably large. The prices are reasonable. You can easily pay by credit card.

It was so good that I forgot to take pictures before I started eating! The vegetarian section had some good hand rolls that we tried and they were very good. Our waitress was so cool. The food was fresh. I also ordered a Thai tea and it was ample and delish. It was also very clean. My son and I approve this spot. Definitely worth checking out. They have a large selection of menu options in sushi and poke bowls as well as other delights. We had a mango mochi for desert and it was so good.

Google
I got a poke bowl. I never saw any poki place with masago and seaweed salad extra $1. not the mention bowl is $18 LOL. I get avocado $1 which makes sense. Also getting spicy tuna and crab meat in option 2 as protein and then those are free at option 5. does make no sense… It was too late to change my order when I see option 5… It should be simple and free god dam seaweed salad. pls come on

Yannic

Google
A great tasting mainland poke. Everything tasted super fresh and the prices are reasonable. They also had craft sodas on tap which were great. Service was very prompt. We will definitely be back next time we come through. Highly recommend for a fresh lunch

Yelp
This is really a fine spot. In addition to the usual poke and sushi (after five) they had a poke burger I could not resist. It's not exactly slimming since it's a bun made out of rice with the poke and trimmings inside and then deep fried. Tasty though Very convenient location right near the museum

Yelp
Across the street from The Forever Marilyn Statue . Indoor and outdoor seating, we opted to sit outside since it was such a beautiful day. The three young lady who took our order were friendly , we were aware one of the young lady is in training and they did apologized for the slow service. We didn't mind the mistakes and the slow service. We know she will get better at her job by doing the tasks. We liked our food , and boba milk tea . Just right amount of portions for the price .

Yelp
Perfect poke bowl that hit the spot! They were kind to accommodate our orders near closing time and the salmon was delicious! Generous portion as well. The place was spacious and had a wider variety of options on the menu besides just poke, which I was surprised I didn't see more of. Great location in the heart of Palm Springs as well with lots of shops around.

Yelp
I enjoyed coming to Haus of Poke for lunch today. This place is different than most poke bowl spots I have been to because they mix the sauces with the poke and then add them to the bowl. You choose a base first: they have quinoa, lettuce, white and brown rice, etc. I like that they offer so many types of bases as well as brown and white rice. A lot of poke spots only have white. Thought that was a nice touch. Then you pick a sauce(s) to go with your fish and they mix it for you. So the poke is just plain fish before you add sauce. I prefer when the poke already has sauce and you can choose from a bunch of flavors but this way was also fun to try! They have a good selection of toppings but not a ton. My bowl tasted very fresh and nice on a hot day. It was 17$ so not cheap. Portion was pretty decent though. Definitely filled me up. Cute spot for a quick bite to eat!

Yelp
Decided to eat here late night about 30 minutes before closing. We ordered and the only option was to go which was fine, they have picnic style tables almost right outside the restaurant so we ate there.

Yelp
Ok decent poke house. The place is classy and contemporary look. They are neat and clean for the restaurant. This restaurant seem like has Philippino food. We got a spam sandwich to try. It was average good. We also got the build your own poke. Fish like tuna, salmon are really good. I like the mixed in. Overall service is just ok. It good option at the downtown with affordable food.

Yelp
We were walking around this area and I decided to stop here for an early lunch. Poke is one of my favorite dishes so I was looking forward to indulging in a bowl. The workers here were friendly and I got a small bowl, which comes with two protein options. I chose salmon and ahi tuna, with half white rice and half greens. For toppings, I got crab salad, edamame, mango, green onions, and crispy onions and garlic with furikake. The interesting thing is they have chorks, which are a fork and chopstick combo. I'd never seen them before and they were pretty easy to use, directions said to break them apart to use as chopsticks but I was able to use them without doing that. Overall, my bowl was pretty good. I knew avocado would be an upcharge since it is everywhere, but was kinda bummed masago was too, so I passed on it. The rice wasn't too fresh so wish that was better.
google avatar

Yelp
Man I really wanted to like this place let's start with the pros. Awesome views if sitting outside. Cons Highly over priced 20$ for the bowls was not worth it. Both white and brown rice were dry to the bone and not appetizing. The poke was good however the scoops are tiny. Wouldn't be back.

Yelp
My partner and I came in for lunch during our Palm Springs vacation and didn't know what to get. We saw a sign about the poke burger at the front where you order, so we decided to try it out. It was incredible! The proportions of the rice were perfect and the crisp of the outer seaweed layer was chef's kiss. It comes with 3 sauces as well, which were all so good. We also ordered spam fries, still pretty yummy but not as mind blowing as the burger. Would definitely recommend trying this out when you're in town!

Yelp
I was out looking for some poke in Palm Springs and this is one of the nearest places I could find. Parking was nice because there is a pretty empty underground garage (great for parking in the daytime) which also was the Tesla Supercharger location. When I arrived at the restaurant I was a little weirded out because it was unlike any poke restaurant I have ever visited. Normally there would be a line where you made your order and they will build your poke dish. Instead there is a menu where you order a bunch of standard japanese menu items like bento boxes, sushi rolls and tempura and items like that. After a few minutes I noticed that the staff was laying table cloths on the tables. I think that this is no longer a poke walk through restaurant but a full fledged japanese restaurant. Anyway the order was made and it looked pretty good even though it was $20 plus tax for the dish. It was a combo poke dish with a preset number of ingredients. It tasted pretty good but I was not too happy about the price. In all honesty I might give the restaurant a pass the next time I am in town.

Yelp
I love spam musubi. I could have 4 at a time. I eat them with my lil sister. Love lemonade with pomegranate popping boba. Great service. Yummy yummy yommy.

Yelp
What can I say? Amazing food, central location, great service from Damian - really friendly and helpful. Highly recommend to those in Palm Springs that want chill but also good food :)

Yelp
Love house of poke. Rice is always warm and cooked to perfection. Protein are fresh and has a great variety of mix in and sauces. What's unique to me is Serrano chilis. Not common for poke places but as a spice lover, this definitely works!! Love it here!
google avatar

Ashley D.

Yelp
Absolutely love the food here! I actually eat here quite often they serve Poke in the afternoon and sushi at night. (Just don't ask for sushi during the day or Poke at night lol) The only reason for 4 and not 5 stars is that the staff are not friendly. I almost feel like they aren't happy or stressed. I hope they are ok. That said, really good food, fresh and delicious!

Yelp
Best customer service 10/10. i came 10 min before closing and they still managed to make a poke burger for me. I highly recommend this place. food is always on point! Love their poke burgers and sauces.

Yelp
No reply so I'm taking a star away. No excuses for the pettiness of this business and not replying to a customers complaint. And I know 200% that you read your yelp reviews.

Yelp
We went here for lunch while we were in Palm Springs and had the Poke Burger. It was really good and different. Needed to come with a spicy sauce or something. We were there in the off season so the whole area just seemed very lax. Would have loved to have some kind of a special side other than wonton.

Yelp
Service is not good when it co es to the switch from lunch to dinner. There are no signs, and staff will just stare at you behind the the prep area and the waitress will walk past you until you go over there and ask. It will take forever for your drinks to arrive and the wait for the food is ridiculous, to the point where you start to question "did your order even get turned in?" I think the worst part of the night was when the order we placed was sitting on the counter to be delivered. It sat there for a whole 6 min. Our waiter thought it was more important to 1. Deliver the check (which was actually fine by me), 2. Wait for the payment ( she could have left the check and delivered our food) 3. Process the payment right next to our food in full view, 4. Bring them the receipt and pick up some of their dishes, 5. Deliver drinks to another table. I mean, why not just drop off our food. It's raw fish, you think I want my food just sitting there. Maybe the waitress was new, it was not that busy, many people came in and left after a few minutes after not being acknowledged. The quality of the rolls was poor and the poke bowl needed up getting my daughter sick. We will not be going back. Two rolls and poke bowl $60.00 with a tip, not worth it especially with the service so bad

Yelp
A fast casual value joint in a sea of pricey table service restaurants. Sometimes you just want a quick reasonably priced meal, so this your best bet in the area. Solid quality food with tons of options to customize. Poke Bowl w/ Ahi, Salmon, Shrimp, Octopus: I'm kind of an everything and the kitchen sink type of guy, so the 4 scoops option really appealed to me. The ahi tuna was tender and fresh, just like the salmon. The octopus was firm and chewy, but not too much so. And the shrimp was familiar and delicious. I got all the free mix-ins, which tasted fine together, though the edamame added an especially nice firm contrast. For sauces I got the haus special sauce mixed in and spicy mayo on top at the very end, which added a ton of flavor. Though it did end up being a bit sodium heavy. For toppings, the fried garlic and fried onions were my favorite. Tons of crunch and tons of flavor! Also, the spicy tuna and "crab" are worthwhile toppings since it's basically more seafood for free. Poke Burger: This was very creative and very delicious. Ahi tuna and "crab" and some flavorings sandwiched between two rice patties then wrapped in seaweed then lightly fried in a tempura batter. Unlike anything I've had before, yet very delicious. I was especially impressed how none of the raw fish got cooked. Guess it's the same trick as fried ice cream. Spam Fries: Strips of spam in a heavy deep fried batter. So much batter it feels like their is more coating the spam. It was a fun way to eat spam, but I kinda wish they were lighter on the batter.

Yelp
Very delicious poke bowl! I got the salmon - fresh and yummy. Generous with toppings and the jasmine tea was pretty good too. Cute, clean spot.

Yelp
I've moved around SoCal the past few years and ended up in Palm Springs for the foreseeable future. The only downside so far is finding good fishy places, whether it be sushi, seafood, or poke. I've learned that for the first two, in order to find quality, you need to fork out a bit of money. For the last, however, look no further than Haus of Poke! I came here with a friend on a Thursday eve, which is VillageFest time. We beat the crowd and got there early. I was happily surprised that you can do dine-in and to see that they have a liquor license. I don't think I've ever visited a poke place where I can have a Japanese beer. Perfection! Their menu has a lot of different options, so we ordered some sushi as well as a poke bowl. The bowl I had was $17 and was definitely large enough to make me have to stuff the last grain of rice in my mouth carefully in order to not explode. Our waitress was friendly and attentive throughout the evening, making the entire dining experience wonderful. I will definitely be back for more!

Yelp
Probably should've read the reviews before this decision to come and eat here but I did not:( We came to Palm Springs for my daughters birthday and her girlfriend came along we stayed at the radiance it was an awesome stay we decided to have a birthday dinner at this place and anything would've been better. The sushi was soggy the edamame was awful. It had a taste that I cannot pinpoint, but the entire table hated it we ordered shrimp tempura, and it was rubbery and soggy and it also had a flavor that I couldn't pinpoint We ordered one Poké bowl that comes premade. It was not good. It was loaded down with liquid seasonings by the time you're done eating it there was more teriyaki at the bottom of your bowl . We had a very nice waitress, but it was only one the, restaurant filled up fast I was in disbelief that people were actually coming to try this , I love sushi and it pains me to write this review ,oh well don't make the same mistake. We did if you like sushi

Yelp
Pre-Covid Review: The fiancé and I went to Haus of Poké upon recommendations from friends, and overall we thought it was a decent poke spot. Staff members were friendly and helpful, and their menu is simple and straightforward. I ordered the small salad with shrimp and it was fulfilling! Their sauces were also tasty. Additionally, I ordered the Thai Tea, but unfortunately I had to toss it after a few sips because it was extremely sweet. All in all, a cool poke spot in the area. The restaurant was spacious and had a nice atmosphere, while food was decent.
google avatar

Arpita G.

Yelp
Decent portions and pricing. Ordered for take out and toppings were plentiful. All of our orders were correct and made on time. Would come back again!

April C.

Yelp
Open to trying new poke spots. Came here expecting great quality service i unfortunately that is not what happened the young women were a little rude when it came to grading guess they started making pre-ordered bowls without acknowledging a line wrapped around the corner finally when I got time for me to get my food they just threw my bowl together and charge me $20 for a very small Poké bowl this is definitely a bad experience would never come here again and would never recommend it.

Tera R.

Yelp
Fresh sushi and food. Excellent service! Will definitely return. Did not disappoint. Laid back atmosphere.
google avatar

Kathem M.

Yelp
Ordered the poke bowl, and it was good my only issue is that I wasn't able to customize it and that wasn't made clear from when I searched online to find a poke spot in Palm Springs you pick the protein and they say ok I'll call you when it's done. They should make it clear that it's pre set

Malik S.

Yelp
Would recommend this poke bar for the quality of the tuna and for really good options for sauces and topping. We love the Serrano chilis, crispy garlic and crispy onion. Also have a great choice of fountain drinks. Plus the service is friendly and fast. Been here a number of times and always consistent.
google avatar

Yelp
I came here for lunch yesterday with a few colleagues. Decent poke at a decent price. Nothing too special but was good/refreshing for a hot day.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
I feel like I may have had visited this location before but I don't see myself returning. I love poke and have been to many poke spots across California and Hawaii and this is probably my least favorite poke spot I've ever been to. My first complaint is that it's way too expensive. I don't mind paying a premium for proteins but I do mind it when these are the smallest portions I've ever had poke spot. I DO mind paying 10 bucks for two iced teas that don't include refills. I would mind it even with refills as that price point is ridiculous. Now I'm sure they would argue that their teas are high quality, maybe meant to be paired with boba, but for patrons like myself, who don't drink soda, we don't have any other option but to pay too much for iced tea. Chipotle boils teabags that are worth a few cents, prepares tea in the morning and have iced tea for the entire day. There is no excuse to not have iced tea as a sot drink option. 50 bucks for two salads and two drinks is insulting and I will not be returning to this spot because of it. My second complaint was I've never had less options for toppings at poke spot prior to my most reset visit here. There are other poke options in the Coachella Valley, unfortunately none in Palm Springs that I'm aware of but it's worth it to drive to Palm Desert or elsewhere to scratch your poke itch.
google avatar

Alyona Z.

Yelp
1/12/20 Came here for lunch as I was in the area and my first time in California. I ordered some spam fries as I've never had before. I also ordered a poké bowl with a variety of proteins. The food was so delicious and this restaurant is similar to subway as you can see what toppings they're putting into your bowl. The staff was super friendly and helpful. I loved this place. So bright, clean and cheerful. Would definitely recommend trying this place out and when I'm back in the area, I'll return here for more
google avatar

Rosary N.

Yelp
The chork is a terrible idea. I can't pick anything up with it as chopsticks because everything just slides off the plastic. Came here for lunch on a Friday. I ordered a small bowl (2 scoops of protein) with salmon and ahi tuna - the fish tasted like its been sitting at room temp all day. The air at the establishment is stale with no airflow. The workers seem so unhappy and one of them had what looked masago in their eyelashes. -1 star for the terrible chork -1 for lack of air flow/AC -1 for poor fish quality
google avatar

Ray G.

Yelp
This place is perfect if you want something light and delicious. The staff is very friendly and efficient. I had their 3 scoop salad based bowl. The greens were fresh and crispy. The yellowtail , tuna and salmon were fresh. Live that instead of avocado slices or diced that they mixed it into the protein. So every bite you take has a little avocado. I recommend this place because they also have great beverage options from milk teas to craft beers. Also located in downtown PS which conveniently allows you to shop afterwards or go window shopping.

Koen K.

Yelp
Food is good. All fresh! Bummed by the big price hikes. Sure inflation.. but at some point you're pushing too far.
google avatar

Ron S.

Yelp
Very disappointed with this place. We went there for dinner and they only offer premade poke bowls with their own selected ingredients. No "pick your protein, pick your toppings," etc. Since we have very picky children, we were hoping to be able to pick and choose which items we wanted, like most poke bowl restaurants offer. They have large digital signs, which I assume are menus, but they were turned off, so I assume that they function as a regular poke bowl restaurant during the day but they don't want to bother with preparing custom poke bowls at night. It would be fine if they made this odd arrangement clear on their website. In that case, we would've avoided this place from the start. But they didn't, and we wasted a trip there.
google avatar

Ted K.

Yelp
Fresh, fresh, fresh. Great spot for a quick, healthy meal. My daughters and I are always looking for a quick spot "when you just don't have time to sit down" but still want a quality meal. Haus of Poke' fills the need. I had the tuna bowl with brown rice and then topped with a bunch of complementary add-ons. Topped with their signature sauce and some wasabi, boom magic in a bowl!!! Thumbs up for Haus of Poke'.
google avatar

Valerie K.

Yelp
I was intrigued by the poke burger so we decided to checl this place out after our hike. I didn't see the poke burger on the menu, but they were able to make it for me. My husband ordered buildable poke bowl and to top it off, they even had boba tea, which was nice. I ended up getting the lavender milk tea, which for being a powder based, was quite good. I believe most of their boba tea options are powder based, but it's sure nice to be able to enjoy bubble tea with something like poke. Sadly they seemed to forget to add the boba I requested, but no biggie. Service was otherwise pretty good and they offer a natural soda selection at their fountain. It was about $25 for everything, so it wasn't too bad. A must try if you're in the area.
google avatar

Erin H.

Yelp
The fish is very fresh and there are plenty of solid options for sides. I've eaten here a few times and I'm impressed with the quality of the food. The prices are reasonable for Poke and I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Kelsey S.

Yelp
This food truck is simply amazing!! They come to our winery (Peltzer winery) about once a month and serve the most amazing poke bowls. They have storefront locations in both Rancho Maroge and Palm Springs and their food truck is excellent. Our winery is located in Temecula and they are happy to come out and serve our customers and they always treat winery employees with such love and respect and wonderful discounts! I usually get a 2 scoop poke bowl with brown rice and all kinds of toppings. Chris knows exactly what to serve and makes sure all of his customers are happy. They also make a mean Thai iced tea which goes down nicely with their bowls. I would highly encourage you to check this place out if you're even remotely interested. If you like poke, this is the place to be!
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
This is my go to place for every other week. The food is fresh and delicious and staff is mostly always friendly and helpful. Prices have increased significantly this year but it's still worth it for the quality of food you get.

T T.

Yelp
If you are Poke aware, as in you spent serious time in Hawaii and know the best places for the superior product then you will not like this place. First the portions of what they call Poke are tiny, it's all mixed with rice and whatever "toppings" like you are at Subway. The ordering process is confusing and the staff looks like they are tired of explaining it. This is NOT traditional Poke, it's a gimmick and a very pricey one at that. Maybe this is acceptable for folks, but if you have had the real thing, you will want your money back.
google avatar

Thomas N.

Yelp
Popped in here for lunch with my wife, located in the heart of downtown Palm Springs next to Tommy Bahama. Not much to say other then one of the best poke bowls I have ever eaten. Ahi and spicy tuna were awesome, fresh ingredients. Will absolutely go back.
google avatar

George N.

Yelp
I have mixed reviews about this place I came here with my daughter and my sister we actually went out of our way to stop here based on the reviews from yelp. I got the large bowl which consisted of four scoops scoops were extra small and the bowl was extra small the fish tasted fresh the sauces were pretty good. The place was very clean the staff was very friendly. I just feel like the price of the Poké bowl. I feel like the cost of the bowl for the portion sizes that we got was very expensive I've been to multiple pokey places in the past and the plates were bigger the portions were bigger they don't have spring mix however they do have quinoa she was very yummy I'm willing to give it another try if I'm ever in the area and hopefully my experience next time will be better

Kevin S.

Yelp
I can't even remember all the ways our waitress screwed up our order. But to pin it just on her would be a disservice to all the people who made it a truly crappy dining experience. I came in from a cold night with a group of 4 friends. My friend getting over a cough asked for something hot and ordered a green tea. He received an iced green tea with boba in it. Whyyyyyy? Both the waitress and the slightly more competent shift manager messed up most of our orders and repeatedly brought us the wrong dishes. We also got our miso soup - which sits in a brazier behind the counter - after the first round of messed up orders. Literally just needs to be scooped out and brought over.... and didn't happen until after bento boxes and other hot food arrived. One friend didn't receive his roll (that we reminded them we needed 4 times) until after everyone else was finished. If this review sounds harsh, I want to contextualize that we were one of two tables when we arrived. The place was so empty that one couple came in and asked if the restaurant was closed. We told them "run! Don't look back" The shift manager did comp two items that they continually messed up on. But I had to point out he comped 17 cents and not 17 dollars. Altogether the food wasn't bad, but the service made the experience just awful.

Yelp
Visited PS and found this place by our hotel and we loved the food! Great variety of sushi and poke bowls. Freshly made to order and a very nice atmosphere! Prompt and attentive service as well. We ordered the combo poke bowl with the sauces on the side plus the Frank Sinatra sushi roll. There were a couple of other sushi places but we picked this for poke especially and also scored on the roll!!
google avatar

Francis L.

Yelp
This place was the worst experience of my vacation in Palm Springs. I enter with my service animal and the employee scolds me for having her with me. Your sign clearly said at the entrance service animals only. This is why we entered because your sign said we may. After telling the employee our dog is a service/comfort dog he sarcastically replies "I guess I'll have to take your word for it." Then proceeds to make my poke bowl to the worst of his abilities and makes this sorry excuse of a poke bowl. What a waste of my time, money, and enthusiasm to want to visit this place.

Yelp
Amazing service, food and atmosphere. I just ate my lunch and I can't wait for lunch again tomorrow. HA!

Yelp
Delicious poke and great service. During the day it's fast casual and in the evening they become a sit down place which makes for a nice experience.

Adam R.

Yelp
It was very delicious. Even though some reviews say other wise, I had a great experience. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted. The poke bowl I had was very fulfilling and went nice with the edamame. Price was reasonable and delicious. I would go back.
