Hauser & Wirth Somerset

It's an amazing place with so much to explore in terms of art. The location is great, and there are also a restaurant and a pub. They offer some delicious Italian food, and the menu has a very interesting selection. I totally recommend it 👌

Great gallery space with adjacent cafe with good selection of unusual If slightly pricey dishes. The exhibition this week ( early December) was of Phyllida Barlow , who is barely heard of before and represented a phase of British art that I found quite unwieldy and stuffy- being a child of a contemporary conceptual school myself!

We had never been here before, but stopped off here on the recommendation received the night before. We set our sat nav for Bruton and then just followed the signs for H&W, very easy to find and plenty of car parking available. A lovely collection of buildings greeted us and we had a brilliant breakfast in the sunny courtyard at the Roth Bar (will do a separate review for there). After breakfast we had a lovely walk around the garden which has an array of beautiful flowers and plants as well as the impressive sculptures. We then looked around the farm shop which was well stocked with local produce. We will definitely visit again when we are in the area.

Beautiful garden to wander around. Very peaceful. Expensive cafe and farm shop. The butcher was very polite and friendly. The cafe and museum staff were pretentious.

The garden is a joyous, breathtaking work art. The effort to keep the colour palette so controlled is incredible, with autumn full of caramel textures. it’s just a stunning immersive experience not least because it’s alive with butterflies and bees. And it’s free! The garden is currently full of wonderfully playful Phyllida Barlow sculptures.

Very original art gallery in a beautiful setting and with a spectacular and well-stocked farm products store. The little terrace to have a coffee or tea, very pleasant. The house/room inside the gardens is very original, in summer they will be beautiful...

Excellent art gallery,great taste! Very carefully selected sophisticated farm shop and nice bar. The garden is huge and beautiful. Kids friendly and educational.

I can't think of a more special art gallery in the UK. Great exhibitions, stunning location and an incredibly well laid tranquil garden. Shame they got rid of the Roth Grill and replaced it with a fairly basic pub in the middle of the exhibition route, but hopefully the Italian which opens soon will be as good as the restaurant was.

A top class art gallery in the middle of nowhere - what's not to like?! Hauser & Wirth is a leading gallery for contemporary and modern art with well established outlets in Zurich, London, New York and LA. I love the fact that they took over an old farm in Somerset and turned it into an oasis of calm and beauty. The current exhibition by Pipilotti Rist (till Feb 2015) alone is worth the trip. One of her video and sound installations is presented in a big room where visitors are asked to take off their shoes and settle on one of the fluffy sheep skins dotted around the floor - the most comfortable exhibition I have ever visited! There's also a lovely shop with local artisan products and a restaurant/bar - enough to keep you busy for most of the day.
