Cute place but food is meh😐 I got avocado toast, and the potatoes on the side seemed like they been waiting for someone to take them out of the oven! So many crumbs and there were more skins than potatoes! Paid around $50 for 2 dishes and 2 coffee. Don’t think I’ll go again unless they change their food.

Google
We ordered the Haute Combination and Huevos Rancheros. Honestly, nothing special about either dish, just a very standard pancake and a rather tasteless scramble. For all the hype, it felt totally overrated. The bill came to $53 for two breakfasts and one latte, which is steep given the underwhelming food. The vibe is nice, but overall, I wouldn’t rush back.

Google
Great place for breakfast, plenty of food choices & options, the Orange Ricotta pancakes are great, coffee is good here too. Get here early (8 am) on the weekends to avoid the crowds.

Google
Cute place. Order before you sit and server brings the food to the table. Any coffee orders are picked up at the coffee bar. Plate presentation 10/10. Liked our food but didn't love it.

Google
Great coffee, great food, I love the fact they have a seed oil free menu for those with sensitive to seed oils. The expresso (not pictured) was amazing. Very happy with my Haute Cakes experience. Sitting outside is very relaxing

Google
Breakfast was so tasty! Portions are huge, we had the American breakfast and the daily special (Brussels sprouts and bacon scramble) and neither of us could finish our meal. The potatoes are perfection and the jelly that comes with the toast makes for the perfect little dessert with breakfast. There was a long line but it moved quickly, and we got our food less than five minutes after sitting down. Outdoor seating was plentiful, with lots of families, children, and dogs. This is a happy place to be on a weekend morning!

Google
A favorite! Love the orange ricotta pancakes Coffee is great! Eggs and potatoes always great Seating is not bad but many inconsiderate people staying long after eating while people who ordered waiting for them to leave. Bussers are on top of clearing their tables which seems to help them get the hint.

Google
everything about this place was great. Only down side would be parking. we drove around the block once and when we came back through the 2nd time someone was leaving, so we lucked out. Oatmilk pancakes were fantastic, real maple syrup is always a good sign. My son got the buttermilk pancakes which were also really good. we both added blueberries to them. my daguters ordered waffles and oatmeal, with eggs and bacon. Everything was 10 out of 10. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
This place had the best pancakes I've ever had in my entire life and I'm still dreaming about them a week later. There was a pretty big line when we went but it moved quickly. The inside is super cozy and cute! And it's one of those places you order first and then go and sit down. I got a chai latte which was definitely one of the top Chais ive ever had and I also got the haute combination breakfast and got the orange ricotta pancakes... oh my god the pancakes looked ordinary at first but do not let that fool you because it tastes like a warm hug. It's the ultimate comfort food!!! I will definitely be coming back for that combo ASAP.

Yelp
Ricotta pancakes are my favorite! Hot cappuccino and fresh squeezed orange juice. Beautiful Newport style. Great service.

Yelp
casual but cute lil brunch moment!! We got the: Good Morning Sandwich- I substituted the bacon/sausage option for turkey, and it tasted good with this combo! Everything together made for a solid breakfast sandwich, I liked it a lot! It comes with a side of sweet potatoes, which were also pretty good Paul's "A Lil" Eggy Sandwich (GF)- A super simple and cheaper option on the menu, but still great, especially for a basic breakfast sandwich. Buckwheat Haute Cakes (GF)- These were FIRE!!! I was a bit skeptical on how gluten-free pancakes would be, but they were made super well. They come with a blackberry jam and fresh cream on top. This combo was SO GOOD!!! I also usually don't opt for blackberry, it's not my fav and usually reminds me of medicine But this was amazing- the blackberry jam tasted fresh and sweet, not like those super artificially tasting fruit syrups some places have. There was a mix of tartness and sweetness, and it all worked so well together. This was def my favorite thing from here, though everything was delicious! I really like their seating outside! It's a bit secluded with lots of greenery which makes it nice. The only thing is that the sun can get harsh sometimes. The indoor seating is nice too though! This is the type of place where you order at the register, then take a seat- and you're not allowed to sit or save seats before. The line was kind of long to order, probably because it was a weekend afternoon. It didn't take that long though. Our food also came out pretty quickly! I would definitely recommend this spot for a nice breakfast/lunch! IG @foodbysimm

Yelp
Have you ever had daily thoughts about a meal? Look/ if you would have told me I'd be craving pumpkin pancakes, I'd have rolled my eyes at you. Told you to kick rocks, scoffed, "ew that actually doesn't sound that great". But look at me- sitting on my couch at 7 pm writing a yelp review about these damn pancakes. Please, PLEASE consider adding them to the regular menu. They are incredible. The toasted pecans?! Holy crap- stuff for dreams. The cinnamon butter...sheesh. I'm so sad I don't live down the street. I'd DoorDash these things. Promise I'll come more often if you promise I can get these things regularly!

Yelp
Great brunch spot in Newport/costa Mesa near a bunch of other cafe markets. This place offers a good full menu. From breakfast items and lunch selections. Came on a Saturday morning around 830/9 and it wasn't crowded at all. Easy order and sit yourself. We got their carnitas burrito and it was filling and delicious. Also got to try their orange ricotta haute cakes and wow this was amazing. Very heavy tho but so delicious and definitely a sweet treat

Yelp
Been coming here for years and somehow never left a review. Realized it this morning while standing in their (always) long line. This spot is consistently solid, and honestly, it's one of the cutest cafés in one of the nicest neighborhoods in OC -- the location alone is a big win. Service today was excellent -- super friendly staff that make you feel welcome right away. Food-wise, most things are really good. The standouts (no surprise): the sausage (pause) and the famous orange ricotta pancakes. Definitely worth the hype. Everything else on the menu is solid, too. If I had one gripe, it'd be the coffee/espresso bar. Not terrible, but a little underwhelming -- maybe I'm just not a fan of their beans. Thankfully, Kit Coffee is right next door, so you can go wait in their long line before hopping into Haute Cakes' long line. All in all, a neighborhood gem that's always worth it -- just be ready for the wait.

Yelp
Charming breakfast/lunch spot in Newport Beach. Arriving shortly after it opened, the restaurant was bustling with patrons getting coffees and ordering breakfast. You have to go to the counter and order and then get a number to put on the many tables (both indoors and outside). When ready your food is delivered to the table. We had a quick timeframe to grab some food so opted to get ours to go! Had a Chai Latte which was delicious and opted for the summer special this Summery Egg which included country bread, eggs and tomatoes. Very delicious - even taking it home to enjoy! Do love a time when i can sit and relax in the tranquil settin of the restaurant. Staff is always friendly and kind! Also - fun fact you can buy cookies to bake at home - we didn't grab them this time but will for sure out next vist!

Yelp
First time here, don't know why I've never been but I already cant wait to be back! You order with the cashier then sit anywhere you want, there's plenty of outdoor seating in between a bunch of cute little shops and the nicest trees! I got a basic breakfast, it was what I was craving and it was so nostalgic, and honestly although you can't mess up a regular breakfast sometimes some places have, but this was just what I wanted! The vanilla latte was good, nothing too special. The people who deliver your food are around cleaning up, checking in on you making sure everything it going well, great service!

Yelp
Always a favorite and a place we bring friends when visiting. Our table of four all ordered entrees and split a plate of the orange ricotta pancakes and the Belgium waffles. The pancakes are a must every time, as they are so warm, fluffy and moist. I enjoyed the asparagus scramble, with the array of fresh veggies, toast and jam and of course their breakfast potato mix. I tried the golden latte which was fine, but will probably stick to regular lattes in the future. The seating seems packed but you can always find a spot once you order. Great place, delish food, beautiful patio for dining.

Yelp
Went here for a weekday brunch and I really liked it. The place is tucked away in the back of a plaza but the outdoor area is very cute with lots of plants and trees. We went on a rainy day so we sat indoors. The place is clean and has a good amount of indoor seating. You order at the counter and they give you a number for your table which they then bring the food over to. They also have a to-go coffee counter which is nice. We ordered food and coffees and sat down. After about 10 minutes a few of us were wondering why our coffees hadn't been brought over. We then realized that we needed to get the coffee ourselves from the to-go counter. I felt it would've been nice had the person at the counter told us to pick up our coffees at the counter. The food was delivered pretty quickly and was reasonably priced with most breakfast and lunch dishes around $17. All the food was fresh and yummy. There wasn't anything particularly outstanding about the food but there was a good variety of items which is nice when you're with a group and I always appreciate when the ingredients are fresh. It's a nice breakfast spot so I would definitely recommend it if you're in the area and especially if it's a nice day when you can enjoy the patio seating.

Yelp
This is a long time, legendary staple in Newport Beach. Let's just say I've been going here for a long long time. It's always hard to decide because the menu is really delicious. Although one of my favorite items is no longer on the menu. Today I had the hot cakes combo, which is basically pancakes, bacon or sausage and eggs. Service was OK. Not the friendliest or the most helpful. I watched as the guest ahead of me who were obviously visiting and had a language barrier order their breakfast, and the order taker was very short with them and dismissive. The guests were able to finally work their way through their order and were confused about the process with the numbers, etc. I was able to help them myself, but it would've been nice had the people who actually work there been a little more gracious. Anytime I come here my drink and my food never come out the same time. It's either one or the other first. Today was no exception. My food came out first without my coffee drink which I do like to enjoy together with my meal. The haute cakes combo was good, but I probably should've ordered something. I could just make it home. Plenty of outdoor seating and some indoor seating as well. Parking can be a little difficult after 9:30 as there's quite a few restaurants, medical building and other coffee places. Cool vibes lotta people come here to work. I'll be back and I'll try other things. They have a few retail items such as beverages and granola, and bakery items. The signage in the ordering process is a little confusing because it almost looks identical. Today you would enter in the middle door and walk up to the far right register to place your breakfast order. Patio is dog friendly. I hate to say it but honestly, I miss pre-Covid haute cakes.

Yelp
Order at the counter. Indoor and outdoor seating. Got a chorizo scramble with tortillas and a latte for $25. They bus your table. Pick up drinks at the counter and they serve food to you. Food portions are generous. Flavors are really good! Would come back. Parking was tough however. Went on a weekday at 11:30am. No parking in front of the restaurant because you needed a special permit so I parked in the parking garage which was a little walk but ample parking in there .

Yelp
The quality of the food is not good anymore and their prices went up We had their date chicken salad and pancakes and they were old and the ingredients were not fresh
google avatar

Stan M.

Yelp
Good food, great location, fair pricing. Recommend Haute Cakes Caffé for any and all meals!

Julia L.

Yelp
I've never had Rancheros like this.. Pure bean and salsa.. two chips.. latherrrrred in beans drenched in salsa. Two runny eggs. I was so shocked.

Yelp
We went this morning after my daughter's club flag football tryouts. There was a line at 11 am but it moved pretty fast. I ordered the huevos rancheros with carnitas and the cold brew. Wow it was delicious. My daughter had the turkey sandwich and my wife had the salmon salad. Everything here was very good. I don't know why they get a 3.9 on Yelp. Haute Cakes is underrated. It should be a 5! We will be back.
google avatar

Courtney D.

Yelp
I have been here plenty of time but this was my first time coming for lunch and now I need to come back more often! The ambiance is always amazing with its beautiful courtyard and trees. The service is always great, the staff is knowledgeable, funny, and kind. I tried the house salad with tuna salad on top with their homemade chips. I usually am a tuna sandwich kind of girl but the weather called for a salad. It was so much food!! It was fresh and there was tons of tuna salad. I was happy that it wasn't too mayoee (not a word) and not too fishy. I highly recommend. I hope to go back soon to try more of their affordable and amazing lunch specials!

Yelp
7 or so years later this place is still just as amazing! Great atmosphere amd great food!

V T.

Yelp
Came on a weekday morning and there was still ample seating inside and a few open tables outside. We order a pancake combo and side of toast to share between two people and the portion was enough for both of us. We also got the mocha and chai latte. I really enjoyed the buckwheat pancakes. The chai was a little mild in taste. It was about $45 including tip so a little pricy. The food and drinks took longer than expected to serve since it seems there was only one barista taking care of all the orders. However, everyone was really nice and helpful! Parking is confusing as I'm not sure who is actually allowed in the lot parking, you're better off finding with street parking. Overall would come again and try out their scrambles.
google avatar

Amanjot K.

Yelp
Love love the food it was soo good! It's a cute little spot to grab some brunch on the weekend. It is order and then sit style so do keep in mind it cane be quiet busy on the weekends especially if you're going with a larger group.
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
My family & I eat here once a week at least! We've been coming here for years, I can't believe I am only now reviewing. Every item on the menu is delicious, my favorites are the Bills breakfast and I love the salads especially the Julie & the Sofie. Prices have jumped a bit, but I feel like the portions have gotten a bit bigger so it's worth it. The other thing about here is, the atmosphere. You can sit outside among trees & greenery; a beautiful floral shop that also sells nice candles & other homewares. As well as many other adorable shops. You can really make a day of it!
google avatar

Ams B.

Yelp
OMG! Haute Cakes Cafe's renovations looks amazing! So much more seating outside with covered seating options too. Seasonal dishes were fantastically delicious - pumpkin pancakes w/ brown sugar butter and pecans as well as the brussels sprouts & bacon scramble were my favorites! Customer service was phenomenal - friendly and courteous people all around. Seating outside under the trees next to the Urban Garden with their aromatic cinnamon brooms was the perfect fall morning!
google avatar

Yelp
This restaurant is all about community!!! Incredible food, lovely hideaway ambiance, and an owner that can be found daily with a kind smile for all his guests. I've been eating there for 30 years!!!!

Yelp
Impeccable service. The bus boy went out of his way to fix MY MISTAKE ordering the wrong cakes. I always prefer blueberry and last time I was here I ordered the GF version, which I didn't want again and I just got confused because this time I had a mimosa. As soon as I remembered I stood there looking confused cuz big line and he immediately noticed me, helped me, and went out of his way to make sure it was delivered perfectly. AND IT WAS. I am a blueberry cake JUNKIE. Glad to know this area has another reason to visit for me (other than Nicks and Salt&Straw) !!! Great experience. Just cuz I like the service I'll drive an extra 10 minutes when normally I goto Champagnes! Furthermore the cakes are slightly superior in fluffiness and the blueberries were sweeter and held their shape. You rock.
google avatar

Colette N.

Yelp
I was excited to try this hot brunch spot, especially because there was a long line! I got the All American Scramble and if i'm being honest, I've had better breakfast scrambles so I'd pass on getting this again. My friend got the Chorizo scramble which I thought tasted more fun and flavorful! We also shared the Orange Ricotta Pancakes, which was a very unique flavor that I recommend people try! I love anything citrus flavored so this was right up my alley, although the pancake is pretty thick and dense (I prefer fluffier pancakes), it still tasted good. I'd only really come here for their pancakes and the vibes. We sat outside on a Saturday morning and had the right amount of shade covering us.
google avatar

Haley K.

Yelp
Orange ricotta pancakes were divine. Served w real maple syrup and warm berry compote. I hope to be back here.
google avatar

Julia J.

Yelp
Holiday simple decoration still cozy & warm inside. Service always nice in here. We enjoyed the food was delicious .
google avatar

Jacquelynn P.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Chorizo scramble and pancakes were all delicious. They don't have a kids meal but you can choose a la carte. The interior and exterior were really beautiful and patio seating was very nice. Coffee and OJ were also very good. Wasn't sure about this place due to the order of how you can get a seat but after going through it then it made sense. So in order to get a table to sit down you must first stand in line and order food. Once they give you your food table number then you can find a table to sit. So the line didn't move super quickly and it was a bit clunky of people needing to walk inside while the line wrapped outside BUT that is the only fault here.
google avatar

a.b. f.

Yelp
Loved the food and the vibe! Parking was horrendous (had to park at the furniture store parking lot and walked over with 3 kids under 5). It's kind of a hassle with 3 young kids because you can't sit at or save a table until you place an order and get a number. The line to order was out the door at 10:30 in the morning!
google avatar

Yelp
Found this spot on accident and happy that I did. I'm a big fan of buckwheat pancakes and haven't found anywhere in OC that makes them like a favorite spot of mines in LA. Until. Now. They melt in your mouth. The fruit compot was perfectly done. Honestly you don't need the little syrup on the side. My toddler got a pancake and we shared bacon. He devoured it. A man that works there maybe the owner. Was super swwet and took our son to see the kitchen. Made his morning. Busy breakfast spot. But worth the wait if you can't get a table right away. Staff is beyond patient and friendly. It's a perfect hometown breakfast spot. No frills. But everything you need. Limited seating inside. But seating outside. Definitely a new place on our breakfast rotation.

Taylor S.

Yelp
i came with my group of 7 on a sunday morning peak hours, the line was intimidating but still wanted to try it. We found a table and our food came out very quickly! The waiters were very attentive and nice and the owner came to check in on us and was had amazing hospitality. Would come again and definitely recommend!!!

Sue V.

Yelp
As a fellow small business owner, I understand the challenges of running a busy F&B spot - but the service here has consistently declined. On our recent visit, the staff was rude and dismissive. When we inquired about a missing side of ricotta pancakes (which we had already paid for), the girl at the counter smirked and insisted we pay again. The chef had to step in to resolve it, yet there was no apology or accountability - just a snarky attitude and blame with the roll of the eyes. I felt particularly bad because my friend is such an easy going guy that he agreed to pay again to avoid the attitude. It wasn't until she actually took the original receipt to the kitchen that it was clear she screwed up. This isn't an isolated incident; over the past two years, the experience here has gone steadily downhill. Disappointing, especially since I used to love this place. Plenty of better breakfast options now on 17th where they're just pleasant and happy.
google avatar

Teagan T.

Yelp
Haute cakes came highly recommended and the reviews and pictures speak wonders and wander one did. For so long.. months and months we've tried to come here but every time gave up halfway through the weekend breakfast lines. No matter what time during the weekend they're packed. The only time it makes sense to come and not wait for a ridiculous amount of time is during the weekday when you can really soak in the moment. Like playing hooky and going to the arcade with your friends or whatever kids do these days. The menu produces a great example for Sophie's choice.. but first timers it's the ricotta orange pancakes. It's almost the cross between Japanese soufflé pancakes and American flapjacks. Fluffy and mushy. The fruit compote was a great addition. The seasonal veggie scramble came with asparagus this March season and it was done pretty well. The potatoes were roasted fresh and jam and butter on the side. They think of everything!
google avatar

Kim W.

Yelp
Love this place! I prefer sitting outside where there is plenty of shade and seats. The food is excellent. It's mostly American style breakfast but the flavor and seasoning itself is great. The cook and texture of the potatoes are my absolute favorite. This is a go to spot for breakfast and the little plaza itself has a few cute shops to look around after eating. There's also Kean and Kitt coffee if you'd like to grab one after get breakfast or brunch with your friends or family. Great place to go!

Yelp
Please listen to the song I am parodying https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XYBj0J99i8 While you are reading my review. Why do birds beautifully appear Because we, want them near Vines and trees People friendly For these birds As I eat, I look to the sky With bacon, so divine So crispy And tenderly With no words

Yelp
I was an initially confused at the set up for ordering/sitting but overall a good first experience. You order first then food is brought to you based on ur ticket. You might have to get ur own drink from the counter though. The orange ricotta pancakes were delicious 10/10 and the berry compote was just right, not overly sweet. The lines moves quickly and although it seems busy, I didn't feel like I was yelling to speak to friends at my table.
google avatar

Brenda J.

Yelp
The cashier/barista was very welcoming and answered our questions about the menu with patience. The inside was clean and beautiful and the lighting was warm and cozy. I got a lavender latte and my mom got a matcha latte and we enjoyed both. The lavender was not too overpowering so it was a nice balance. We also ordered the breakfast sandwich with bacon and the buckwheat pancakes. The dishes were pretty big and filling. The pancakes were delicious and the jam was sweet enough but not overpoweringly sweet. Overall great experience, would come again so I can sit outside in the garden.
google avatar

Griselda M.

Yelp
Definitely the "Haute" spot of Newport. Came on a weekend and the line was long, but definitely worth the wait. Ricotta pancakes were my favorite! The service was nothing short of amazing.
google avatar

Yelp
Can't find another breakfast place like this. The food's incredible service is wonderful. Ambience is wonderful. Love this place.
google avatar

Yelp
Love love love. Always good, always quick, small menu but that's what makes it good. Love the patio area and the inside is always bustling with good energy. Food comes out quick and hot. Service is good!
google avatar

Yelp
Cute outdoor seating area and large indoor option as well. Good gluten free options which was nice.

Yelp
Visited with my friend and it was my first visit!! I must say it was the cutest little cafe with some amazing and delicious food. I chose the turkey chili. For $10 it was a great deal with a lot of chili. It had big chunks of turkey, very thick, lots of red beans and super tasty. I was full with 1/2 a bowl and took the other to go. It came with a thin piece of bread. My friend enjoyed her salmon salad which costs market price and ended up costing $25. However it looked very good and she said it was!! The store next to Haute is a gardening store which looked really cute but we didn't have time to look. The entire cafe was adorable down to the cement floors. The parking lot was small and quite full; however, we managed to find a parking spot. Hope we go again when I'm in her neck-of-the-woods for my facial.

Yelp
Always good to we eat here when in Orange county. We live the variety of healthy food

D. B.

Yelp
Have been coming here for years for the wonderful breakfasts. Recently visited after several months, and while the eggs were terrific, what happened to the avocado toast?? After eating the hard boiled eggs tossed on top (miss the poached ones from way back when) what was left was basically a barely discernible amount of avocado.

Eat More B.

Yelp
Love this neighborhood classic but the slow line and sometimes inconsistent service make this place not a four or five stars... but love it nonetheless.
google avatar

Lani N.

Yelp
Really great food, as can be testified by the huge number of people waiting in line. My friend and I shared the breakfast sandwich and gluten free berry pancakes. Be prepared to wait though. We got there at 9ish and waited 15minutes just to order. When we left people were in a line 4x as long.
google avatar

Celine S.

Yelp
Great food! I got the carnitas burrito and it was really tasty. The workers helped us get a table together for 12 of us, even though it was super busy. I really like the outdoor patio, it was very trendy and there was lots of greenery and shade. I really liked this place and the location, and would definitely come back.
google avatar

Cynthia K.

Yelp
Not impressed. The food and coffee were good. The outdoor ambiance was good. The hospitality put this place at 2 stars for me. Starting w the parking lot. Then onto the order window which was unfriendly. Then after the server drops your food we never see them again. You get your own condiments and water. You're own to go box if needed. Then a man came and asked us where to we parked because he didn't want us to be towed. Dumb. Unwelcoming. I'll skip this place again. So many warmer easier options in That area.
