Where to Pick Up Coffee in Phoenix Right Now | Eater Phoenix

"Off the main street in Glendale, A Shot of Java is a cute and quaint coffee shop in a row of antique stores. The gingerbread latte is a preferred customer choice, but mocha and Turkish coffee are greats options, too. The Wi-Fi is reliable and the patio is great for social distancing." - Rudri Patel

Google
Delicious and fast service! Plenty of parking and a warm local feel. I will definitely be back!

Steve

Google
Oldest coffee shop in town! Macy is the best barista, very nice and always remembers my order and name. She makes the best expressos. 😊 The coffee is really good not burnt and it’s very smooth! Its top 3 coffee shops in the valley. Great location. Good outside seating when its nice out. Great pastries and bagels. The staff is very professional and courteous.

Aprile Pennington

Google
Awesome place. Loved the live music. Tasty food and definitely my new coffee addiction mother ship. 😁☕️

Neska

Google
Got a matcha latte, appreciate I could have it unsweetened, but the surcharge for non-dairy milk was $1, which is a bit excessive for the cost differential. Matcha wasn't very strong, but the service was nice. Other customers however were pushy and rude

Madeleine Stone

Google
Great place. Come here all the time. The working baristas decide the music so the playlist may vary.

Google
Coffee here is good and its not usually crazy busy. Definitely a good place to go for a quick cup

Google
The perfect local shop. Espresso is very smooth and well sourced. I am not sure what their house blend is but I had a quad shot whole milk lavender latte and it was divine. I walked from a local hotel and they are open very early 5:30 am so great place to go before your meetings start. There is plenty of parking, handicap accessible. And the baristas are extremely friendly and welcoming. There is local art posted on the walls available for sale from local artists whichi just love!

Amanda

Google
My experience here was so great! It was my first time and the barista was so welcoming and helped answer my questions. Their espresso is delicious and I got the Thin Mint Latte. The flavors balance out so nicely for an afternoon pick me up. Cute spot in the Biltmore area. Note - Drink came full but I drank some to try it out.

Yelp
Hava Java was a treat! After a long hike, my pup and I went in search of some coffee and a pup cup. We found Hava Java on 32nd street and decided to try it out. I ordered an iced lavender americano with a splash of milk and a pup cup for my dog. I'm not sure if they are dog friendly so I left him in the car out front and could keep an eye on him through the big front windows. There is a spacious outdoor seating area and seating inside the shop, which is small but cozy. The barista was super friendly and we exchanged pictures of our dogs. I have 4 stars because the americano was a tad watery and the lavender was a little on the soapy side. I'll definitely go back whenever I visit the mountains in the area!

Yelp
Great coffee and smoothies. I've been here twice in the last couple of weeks and it's a good spot to study.

Yelp
Fast and friendly service! Casual setting, perfect for grab n go in the morning, if you're running late. They have coffee granitas, if you that's your thing (which it is, for my hubby), but it is VERY SWEET. So, good for dessert.

Hali J.

Yelp
Love the vibe! The iced Americano and breakfast burrito really was so delicious hit the spot!
google avatar

Yelp
One of my favorite coffee hangouts when in the neighborhood. Coffee is good and they can customize your order. They have inside or outside seating. Bakery goods are also available. Friendly service and good internet make this a happy place.
google avatar

Yelp
Best Coffee Shop in the valley hands down. Incredible customer service and the coffee is great too. I've been coming here weekly for years and never once have I been disappointed in the coffee or the employees (who always surprise me at how many customer orders they have memorized) keep it up!
google avatar

David N.

Yelp
Order the Mango smoothie, great taste and refreshing! I enjoyed the nice easy vibe inside, service was friendly. Would come back again.
google avatar

Bella G.

Yelp
Staff is friendly! Drinks are unfortunately not good. Matcha tea latte was almost pure milk. Didn't even look green at all and had no flavor. Chai tea latte tasted like tap water. Mocha latte was quite bitter. 2 drinks here cost just over 14$. Ended up tossing mine since it really was not good. Staff was nice however so I left a 3, but based on drinks a 2.

Yelp
Hava Java is the most popular coffee place in Arcadia. They know their product and they provide it at rapid pace, managing the long lines of thirsty and hungry customers.

Yelp
This place is my favorite cafe in the neighborhood. It hits the mark on all their items and the service is always incredible. I love coming here for that afternoon pick me up or that easy Sunday experience. It's a chill, laid back, and cozy place to hang out, do work, or even catch up with friends. You cannot got wrong with anything you order. Pick something from their menu or if you know what you like, tell the barista and they'll make it for you. Recommendations - Iced S'more's Lattes with Oat Milk - Java freeze - Any Tea - Regular Latte - Green Chile breakfast burrito

Yelp
I came back after a couple of years since last time I visited and I wasn't impressed with my cappuccino, I ordered it with an additional shot and I still couldn't identify the coffee flavor at all. Maybe the young barista has not been properly trained. Or something else is happening here with the coffee blandness.
google avatar

Ali B.

Yelp
Cute place! Was surprised I hadn't heard of this place until recently. It wasn't busy at all when I went and my chai was ready fast! I got a hot chai latte with almond milk. I do think it could've used a little more of the chai, it tasted a bit too watery/milky for my liking but was otherwise good. Would probably try a mocha or something next time but glad I got to come here!
google avatar

Jasmine L.

Yelp
I ordered a SF latte and it was amazing! Cute cozy spot that reminded me of the coffee shop in Friends. Service was alright, he was kinda rude. The latte made up for it and I'll definitely be back

Chelle G.

Yelp
The coffee is avg and the woman taking orders doesn't seem to enjoy her job at all. They are busy, I'll give her that. But the lack of customer service is overwhelming. I wouldn't recommend if you want to see friendly faces behind the bar. They are just rude.

Yelp
Hadn't stopped into Hava Javae in ages! But had just gotten a blowout at Drybar just next door and had to walk away with a coffee. They have an extensive menu and they're happy to really adapt to make you anything you want. I was greeted by both individuals in there and was quite chipper about it. On the left side of the pictured menu (which I will take A pic of next time) there seemed to be some specialty drinks, and as I was on a Zoom celebrating Hispanic Heritage month, I opted for a Mexican Mocha (which she let me know they add chocolate, cinnamon, and milk of choice to) with oatmilk. I noticed the oat milk is $1 more as opposed to the .75 for almond, soy, coconut alternatives. She said "it's a hot commodity these days" - she wasn't lying. Nonetheless, I grabbed a medium and it was a large plastic cup. The large is extra large, and the small still looks pretty sizable compared to other well known coffee spots... I always ask for light ice because I don't like my cup to be filled with ice more than coffee, and she was glad to do that, and asked for a smaller pump of chocolate, so as to watch my sugars. She made it quickly, and it was definitely yum. Wasn't the best Mexican mocha I've had but the cinnamon was wonderful. I couldn't tell you what was missing, don't get me wrong, it was definitely delicious but I was ok. It was so delicious in fact that I ordered another with an extra shot and half sweet for my friend as a surprise and she LOVED it. She said it was perfect and was absolutely going to wake her up. The service and coffee were tasty. And I heard a woman rant about how it was one of the first coffee shops open in Phoenix! So there is a long standing history with the place. Come try a cup, and try the Mexican mocha and let me know what you think!

Yelp
Coffee was ok, new barista was very nice and professional. Great location with plenty of parking. Why 3 stars ? I asked for a flat white not a Latte. Yes sir I do know the difference.

Yelp
GREAT COFFEE SHOP The AC and fans in here are so cold and strong! This is a great spot to chill on a laptop or read a book. There are some tables outside that would be nice during cooler months of the year. There is good quality free wifi, password "thankyou" The employee helping me today was friendly! My drink came out delicious with my addition of oat milk. I'll be back!

Yelp
I' m kind of new in Phoenix having moved from gorgeous San Diego a few months ago; so I've been checking out the neighborhoods. This mall looked pretty standard except for this unique, quirky coffee shop "Hava Java". It was nice to see a place with some personality as the area has a very corporate, standardized vibe. The Barista was very friendly and served me a delicious Italian roast coffee in a very large cup(always a nice thing for coffee fiends). The place is smaller than I usually like but there is comfy seating and the crowd is nice. I also liked the original artwork on the walls. The unique, cool vibe reminded me of the better coffee shops I use to patronize in Boston and Baltimore. I just had a coffee but the smoothies, breakfast burrito and desserts looked great for a later visit. Highly recommended.

Mckenzie C.

Yelp
Love this coffee shop! The coffee taste delicious and never disappoints! Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Awesome tea and coffee, so much better than Starbucks. They have so many diff flavors of teas, and the coffee is fresh and has a wonderful flavor. I just wish they had more locations.

Yelp
Hava Java is a well known little neighborhood coffee spot that is great for coffee meetings, all kinds of beverages, and some lighter continental style food/snacks as well... With friendly staff, solid wi-fi, and moderate prices, you can't go wrong popping in for a bit, as I did one evening last week. I had an iced green tea on my recent visit, which hit the spot, especially with the warm temps we've been having. I've also had all kinds of coffee drinks, both hot and cold, from HJ, and never been disappointed. Since HJ is not far from where I live, work, and play, I am sure I will be by again soon.

Yelp
We are from out of state and have been in the Phoenix area for just under a week now. We found this coffee shop first morning we were here and have been back almost every single day since we got here. The espresso is truly phenomenal and the service is as well. We have been getting iced caramel macchiatos and honestly nowhere I've ever been even comes close to comparing. Thank you for being such a great spot and so welcoming!!!! I'm really going to miss this place when we go back home. SUPPORT LOCAL PHOENIX!!!!

David A.

Yelp
Just a friendly local coffee shop. Good coffee and staff. Great vibe. I just feel at home there.
google avatar

Yelp
Outstanding service! I did not get her name but the lone employee did it all with enthusiasm and cheer. Nice selection of fresh pastries; get them before they sell out daily. I highly recommend this location.

Yelp
I've lived in AZ most of my loooong life, and had never been here before. Advertising as the oldest independent coffee shop in AZ, It is unique and I'm glad we stopped in. A quaint shop filled with local art, fresh baked goods and featuring a lovely patio, we were hooked! The barista assisted us with a custom brew and it was delightful! The cinnamon roll was also good, not overly sweet and big enough to share. We will be back!

Molly P.

Yelp
they made the kind of cappuccino that makes you so happy to be alive and even in arizona it feels like seattle but it's so good that that doesn't matter bc arizona has so many things to appreciate too and this cappuccino made me realize that

Ellie S.

Yelp
Ordered a SF oat milk latte and am obsessed! Such a cute place with friendly baristas. Definitely stop in if you need your small coffee shop fix and good coffee! Pastries looked delish as well
google avatar

Kathy H.

Yelp
Had a 12oz latte. Nothing fancy but the coffee was great. Nice outdoor seating. Friendly service too
google avatar

Yelp
Good coffee, really small but lots of beautiful natural lighting. Baristas were efficient and gave good service. I got a fresh bagel too. Will try again

Yelp
Little did I know when I wrote my review in March 2019 that I'd be moving to our forever home WALKING DISTANCE from here! I often drove through our new neighborhood when leaving Hava Java to manifest our future and well friends, it worked! Now HJ in a 1 minute drive/15 minute walk + my real go-to escape to get work done, especially because they have loads of outdoor seating during this time. I am obsessed with their hazelnut oat milk latte (iced or hot, both fab!) and their locally made bagels and cream cheese (yes, I get one every time). Today I learned that they are now offering breakfast burritos made by my FAVORITE vendor at the farmer's market! YAAAAS. They went up a notch (if that was even possible) today! Thank you for being the best neighborhood coffee spot/office away from my crazy 2 year old! :) The service is always so friendly and truly gets your day started on a happy note. #DrinkLocal

Chris G.

Yelp
Come here often and the service is always friendly, timely and consistent. Great place for a meeting or leisurely hang. Skip the line at Starbucks and support local for your morning coffee pickup on the go.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place! They have some exotic specialty drinks, customized to your liking if asked. Service was quick and great- they were nice and helpful. The place itself is a little small, so if it's a crowded day, working here may not be the best place, but it's a pretty comfortable spot. LOVE that they have free coffee out on the counter, if you opt for that or just want to try. I'd definitely recommend their specialty drinks though. Definitely worth it.

Sara P.

Yelp
AMAZING!!! The employees were so cool, so friendly snd helpful! This is the mocha Java. The best.

Taylor E.

Yelp
The red chile breakfast burrito was AMAZING. Seriously a must try! I would post a picture, but i devoured it too fast
google avatar

Chris H.

Yelp
Great vibe and great atmosphere. When you order the large nitro cold brew they are not messing around. I think they brought me a 32 ozer! LOL! Great morning on the patio with some new potential clients. I had never been here before. Found this spot by chance online.

Charlotte H.

Yelp
The coffee here is amazing and the service is fantastic. The barista was more than willing to help me figure out the coffee I wanted with it being the first time being there. If you are craving a fall themed drink, you have to try a Latte with maple and pumpkin syrup with oat milk. It was amazing!
google avatar

Kelly B.

Yelp
I stopped in here for some coffee while waiting for an appointment next door. This is a pretty standard looking coffee shop with a good tea and coffee selection and also kombucha and nitro cold brew on tap. I ordered a standard small cappuccino ($3.75), which was a solid cappuccino. The prices here are pretty standard for a coffee shop in the area. I don't know that I would particularly go out of my way to come here for coffee, but it was a nice place to try nonetheless.
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
Love their iced chai tea latte is so creamy and not too strong. Service is wonderful and it's a wonderful place to get a quick study or read a book.

Jackie S.

Yelp
Hidden gem! Amazing coffee! Have worked next door for years and I just found this place. Never going to Starbucks again. Mocha Java was amazing.
google avatar

Karlly k.

Yelp
Best breakfast burrito in town with the best coffee!! Great customer service. So happy that we found this place right in our hood! Awesome place!
google avatar

Amairani R.

Yelp
Coffee is okay, it could be better and it has been better. Actually great but it all depends on what mood the baristas are in. Stay away from the skinny girl with short hair. She'll get upset with you, if you ask her to remake a drink. And she'll throw change at you if you ask her to add an extra shot because you're not happy with your drink. I usually order a Carmel latte, this time I got nothing but milk and asked her to add a shot if she wasn't able to remake it, she rudely said only if you're paying for it? Of course I am. I paid for it and she threw the change at me. It's a great place to hangout and the coffee is usually great. But because of this experience I am never coming back. I love staying local, and supporting small businesses but I am never coming back!!! This experience was it for me.
google avatar

Yaejin R.

Yelp
Great coffee! I've been craving a dirty chai tea latte for the longest time and I finally got my fix! I ordered the blueberry muffin and it was rather dry. Delicious un flavor though! Very nice spot to drink coffee, catch up with friends, or get some work done!
google avatar

Yelp
I love a place that has a neighborhood vibe partnered with a friendly, happy staff. To boot, the coffee is much cheaper than some national chains and I would say it is better! The inside is quaint, clean and cozy. Logistically, it may not be set to the best and most efficient, but somehow it makes it feel more homey. They also have a nice patio area out front. Parking is not an issue (used to be on occasion when all the surrounding businesses were open). Support local business! I recommend giving them a try if you have not, as you won't be disappointed. This is what other coffee places want to be when they grow up. :) Enjoy y'all!
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
I hadn't had my coffee yet, so I was hardly together in my ordering but the barista was super gentle and patient with me, lol... sampled a few from their daily's and then when with a mocha latte - awesome. Very chill quiet vibes in there.
google avatar

Robin N.

Yelp
Hava Java will be my new forever study spot! I love that it is a no-nonsense spot with excellent coffee and a low-key vibe. The cafe au lait was delicious, and after studying for a while I was thankful that food (bagels, yogurt/ granola, etc) was also available! Don't expect any coffee shop pretense here. The baristas were very friendly and solicitous. Refills on the same visit are half price, or $.25 if you get a coffee, so it feels like they don't mind if you stick around for a while. There aren't a ton of tables, but there are plenty of outlets available and a nice patio in the front. Also, this place is spotless. When I arrived, the chairs were all cleaned off and pushed in, the tables were clean, and the floor was swept. The staff/ ownership obviously cares about making sure customers are comfortable. I will be back!

Grace H.

Yelp
Super friendly service & the drinks were great. We got a London Fog and a Mocha. We will definitely be returning
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Decided that we needed to try as many coffee houses as we could in our short trip to Phoenix. This was close to where we were staying so it was on our list of places to try. Parking is available but is in short supply most of the time. There is enough outside seating for a whole bunch of people. There are two patios, one in the front and one around the back. The one around the back is for smokers (yucch!). The inside is small but the baristas have enough room to make you a wonderful cup of coffee. There are outlets for your computer of smartphone inside. The baristas are very helpful and will serve you exactly what you ask for. Great local coffee house.

Yelp
One of my goals while in town was to try several locally owned coffee shops. This one was on the radar based on all the Yelp reviews with interesting comments and its location. I ordered an almond milk latte and was impressed to see the option of not only that but coconut milk as well. Not being a fan of coconut water, I decided to play it safe but might give it a try in the future. There is an additional charge for almond or coconut milk, but the barista pointed that out when I ordered, which was very nice of her. It also clearly stated it on the menu. There are both indoor seating and outdoor seating on both sides of the place. We tried both only because the side with the parking lot was a bit cold in the shade that morning. Warning: the street side outdoor seating appears to be the smoking side but was in the beautiful sunshine. No ceramic cups for the coffee, however, only to-go paper. Having this option creates a need to have a machine that cleans those cups to health standards, so maybe that isn't an option. Perhaps, there is a bring your own cup option that I don't know about. Overall, a pleasant experience.
