Yelp
Havana Cafe earns it's stellar reputation with the quality of the food & generosity of the portion. A friend & I dropped in for mid-day lunch. Friend had their Media Noche sandwich, while I opted for their flagship Cubano sandwich. Drinks were an iced tea & a sofa.
Complimentary chips & salsa appeared hastily with the drinks shortly after we were seated. Salsa had decent flavor & adequate bite to pass muster. Chips were of the sturdy sort calling for a bit of caution and attention while eating to avoid damaging your mouth.
The Cubano was dense, moist, chewy & toothy, and decently presented given that it came in a plastic basket. Flavor was sumptuously rich & flavorful. Nicely complex mix of umami & tangy. It was probably the best Cubano sandwich I've had up to this point in my life. Really scrumptious. Bread was notable for being chewy without being tough, and very well suited to its duties of corraling the generous portion of fillings in the sandwich. While it didn't appear that large at first blush, the sandwich proved to be plenty enough and then some to fill me up.
Prices here run a bit to the high side. Two sandwiches and two drinks rang in at the $28.50 price point before tip, so at the top of my $10-$15 per person lunch pricing window. However, I think the price is justified by the volume and, especially, the quality of the food.
Staff was about 3.5 stars: a bit distant or distracted & not notably friendly, albeit proficient at their duties. Some tolerance is to be given though, considering that this is a popular eatery that operates steadily at full capacity so there is a *lot* of demand for their services.
