Fantastic tours lead by phenomenal tour guides with a wealth of energy and information. When my partner and I moved to Newark from Manhattan a few years ago, we were a bit unsure..clearly our new town had a great history but also sadly a lot of preconceived ideas. Our tour guides Emily and Antonio were the best possible ambassadors to our new town. We took at least three different tours with them over the first few months. They introduced our group not just to the history of Newark but to the wonderful small business and small business owners contributing to the renaissance of this great city! Definitely don't miss out on these tours!

Get to know the entrepreneurial spirit of Newark by being immersed into the downtown, walking into storefronts, and talking to business owners. I have been going on Emily's Have You Met Newark Tours since its inception and have continued to join because it is constantly evolving as Newark goes through its renaissance. Have You Met Newark's tours introduced me to: Newark where I moved and eventually bought a home with my husband; the places where I have lunch, coffee, and buy fun stuff like fabric or a cool hat. I have also been fortunate to join some of Emily's tours in other downtowns and continue to go back to those communities to eat and shop. Thank you Emily for breaking down barriers and introducing me to all of the great entrepreneurs in Newark and beyond!

A few years ago I took a walking tour of Downtown and had a great time learning about Newark with Emily. When our landlord, Capstone Elite, encouraged us to take a walking tour of the city with them, my roommates and I were a little skeptical. But Emily was AWESOME and the tour was so much fun. I had no idea Newark had so much to offer. We checked out historical places, some cool shops, and a few cool places to grab a bite. The places we were introduced to and the people we met on the tour totally changed the way we see Newark now. This was well worth the time and a great experience! Thank you Have You Met Newark Tours!

This was a great experience when I went to Newark NJ. Antonio explained everything thoroughly and well, didn’t think Newark had that much history to it. I would definitely come back to visit more spots!

The Have You Met Newark Tours are a great way to get to know the local stores and restaurants in Newark. My wife and I find ourselves returning to several of the shops we learned about on the various tours. Emily's tours of other downtown and commercial areas have also provided great us with new restaurants and store to choose from. Having lived through decades of homogenization of culture (same radio stations, same restaurants, same shops from one coast to another), these tours are a great way to highlight that which makes a community unique and interesting.

I went on my first tour with Have You Met Newark in 2013. While much of my youth was spent just 15 minutes west of Newark in suburban Union County, my familiarity of Newark was limited at the time. Going into multiple small businesses such as Hobby's Deli and Glass Roots and meeting the owners had such a positive impact on me and others on the tour as we were able to see the true economic lifeblood of the city. I moved to Newark a few months after my tour and spent two years in the Ironbound neighborhood, and this tour was definitely influential in my decision to live in the city.

Oh my goodness, where to start! I'm lucky enough to have been on two of Emily's tours, The Ironbound Tour and the Ironbound FOOD Tour! Emily and her team are so knowledgeable about Newark and its history. Perhaps the best part is Emily's commitment to the city and its business owners, though. You cannot walk down Ferry Street (or anywhere in Newark) without three or four people stopping to say hello. "Oh, that's Joe," she'll say, "He owns one of the stores we visit in the Downtown Tour," or something similar. Everybody in town knows Emily and they love her. It's this sense of community and humanity that she builds into her tours that really make them shine. She highlights Newark AND its people, and that's why her tours are awesome!

Have You Met Newark Tours are thoroughly enjoyable: a super fun way to get to know this city, that has so more to offer than meets the eye. And even long term residents like myself can always learn a thing or two from Emily, Antonio and crew. Never regretted spending an afternoon on a tour with you, and I am ready for another excursion!
