Hawkers Asian Street Food wasn't my favorite. We tried the roast duck bao buns, soup dumplings, curry duck noodles, and Penang poutine.
The roast duck bao buns came out first - they were pretty dry. I asked for hoisin sauce, but they didn't have any. We still did receive three sauces, including chili oil and bird's eye sauce. which definitely helped. After adding the sauce, the bao buns tasted much better.
The curry duck noodles were just alright - nothing memorable. The soup dumplings didn't stand out either, and they lacked much soup, which was disappointing. My brother said that Trader Joe's soup dumplings were better which shocked me because he isn't huge on the their soup dumplings. The Penang poutine was okay, with solid fries and decent sauce. We completely forgot there were cheese curds until we hit the bottom.
Overall, the food wasn't that impressive and lacked a tad of cohesiveness, especially for the price. Portions felt small for the quality we got. I feel like Hawkers is more focused on drinks and small bites rather than standout meals.
That said, the vibe was fun. Our waitress was chill, and I liked the lively, energetic atmosphere - lots of groups around us drinking and having fun. If you're coming for drinks and late-night snacks with friends, it might hit the spot. But for the food alone, it felt pretty average.
