First, Kelly our server was amazing! Being the first time here, she recommended a few items. The deep fried egg rolls on there menu, Gordan Ramsey would give them a 10. Got the wings with spicy chilli sauce, amazing, we also got a cheese quesadilla, which was a cheese quesadilla. I got a chicken sandwich, which was very well breaded not too heavy not too light. Was not dry. Overall, my first time experience is a 10 out of 10. The staff is great and the food is phenomenal. It is very clean. The atmosphere is Great the clientele tell is very friendly. Kelly was amazing! Thank you

Good selection of food for a sports bar. Some items could use slight improvement to make this a 5 star, such as making sure fries are served crispy and fish tacos not overloaded with an abundance of chipotle mayo sauce.

It’s my first time in Chicago and I flew in late. There was one place open at 11pm near my hotel which was Hawkeyes. The waitress was nice but didn’t listen very well. The fries and tots were good, nothing special. The bacon and egg burger was recommended by my friend. I created my own burger and couldn’t believe how strong the charred taste was. My burger was hard on the outside as well. I picked at it and never sent it back because I didn’t want to be difficult. After receiving our food the waitress never came back to check on us so we waited at least 15 min to track her down just so we can get mayo and thousand island sauce which we had originally asked for when we placed the order. Lastly, I’m an east coast girl and I don’t know people in Chicago always do this, but it’s not preferred to use cold condiments on hot food. The thousand island sauce was freezing cold and I didn’t help hide the burnt taste of my burger.

My family and I came to eat dinner for the first time at Hawkeyes but left disappointed as the food looked very good but seriously lacked in flavor. From a burger, to wings, and shrimp, the meals left a lot to be desired. Our server was also very quick to take our order but was hard to find during our meal for refills and what not. It’s a place I would say is fine to come get a drink with a side of fries or tots but not a dinner spot. Overall, I don’t think we’ll be back as the price didn’t reflect anything worth coming back for.

The ONLY reason why I am giving the review I am giving because of Jimmy our service who help made our company post holiday party as amazing. Jimmy was great, he was flexible with everyone, and he didn’t miss a beat. Hawkeyes give him a RAISE. I do have a neg review on 1 guy. I honestly don’t remember his name. I think he is the made guy or manager short, facial hair, hair cut, but not too low of a haircut. Prior before having our company holiday party back in Dec I first came in look at the place, and introduce myself. He told me by being a healthcare working “we will give everyone 10% off the menu” now the day of the party he tells me “no I didn’t say that. I meant for drinks only” like WHAT. Now you starting off a business relationship deal off a lie. So instead of arguing with him. I just told him never mind we will not have our company here ever again. Instead of being man of his word he only told me sorry for the miscommunication. Like what? I just laughed. That was gone be our last. But Jimmy save the day. Jimmy will be the only reason why we come back. We will want Jimmy. So i am not going to let one spoil apple ruin the tree. That guy was the spoil apple. So Thank you Jimmy again for your service. Our company will be make to make this a traditional thing because of you!

Went by myself for a late lunch, early dinner on a Thursday. Waitress was super kind and helpful, super patient with me as I was cold and couldn't make a decision....It was pretty quiet at that time. Food was fresh and good and large portions too. I ordered a greek salad and waffle fries. I couldn't finish is, but it made the perfect leftovers.

It was a good space. Good menu and very tasty food. Wish it was hotter when it came but nevertheless still delicious. Service was wonderful and friendly. Definitely will come back.

I only come to Chicago once or twice a year, and I somehow always end up here. I love the relaxed atmosphere, the chill bartenders, and delicious wings. I had the wings for the first time today and WOW. Just WOW. The wings were huge, meaty, and the sauce was incredible. I had the mango habanero wings and they are SO MUCH BETTER than wingstop, bdubs, and pluckers combined.

When I first moved back to Chicago, years ago,, we would hit this place for a few drinks after work. You could split a couple of buckets off beer for cheap and they had free parking. Win. Win. I hadn't been back in ages. A co-worker suggested we go because "they're supposed to have good burgers." That couldn't be furthest from the truth. Burger tasted like a frozen food service patty. The fries, which were also likely frozen, were under cooked. The wait staff was slow and not really attentive. Given the fact that it was late afternoon and the bar was empty, I don't know where they had going on that was more important. I might consider coming back for a beer, at most. I would never eat here again. I likely will never come back here again.

My lovely wife and I were in the area on a dreary Sunday afternoon and decided to have lunch and beers at Hawkeye's Bar & Grill. We were intrigued that they had a shuttle bus to the United Center for Blackhawks hockey games (more on that later). Since we were going to the game, we thought - why not? Currently you have to spend $30 in order to catch the free shuttle bus. Yup Hawkeye's is a sports bar, though my love insisted on calling it the Irish Bar on Taylor Street. Indeed there are lots of TV screens showing all sorts of sports action (I saw coverage of baseball, soccer, college softball and spring football during our visit). We sat at the central bar, and our friendly servers were all in all attentive to our needs whether it came to ordering food and having it served quickly, getting water refills, and getting tickets for the free shuttle bus. My reuben was served open-face style so it was sort of like getting two open-face sandwiches. You get a choice of tots or fries for free (I went with the tater tots) and my hearty reuben plate also was served with thick pickle slices, and small cups of thousand island dressing and cole slaw. My love enjoyed her Hawkeye burger, loaded with bacon, onion strings and onion, cheddar, lettuce and tomato, plus a side of fries. I do not know if they provide the free shuttle for all Blackhawks games, but they did so for the Sunday matinee yesterday. The school bus boards around 40 minutes before the start of the game. Since it was pouring outside, we appreciated the short ride to the UC. They will also take you back to Hawkeye's after the game if you wish, but we would not need the return leg.

Been a while since I've been here. They updated their bar liquor selection, food menu, and music selection. Great service. I had the chicken quesadilla and it was so good. Came with guac, salsa, pico, and sour cream. Hubs got the fish tacos and they were yummy! Definitely will be back!

We came here strictly for the Blackhawks shuttle and honestly it was such a great deal! They have a free parking lot on the block, and as long as you eat 20 bucks worth of food you get to ride the shuttle to the game! Food was surprisingly yummy for bar food. Big portion sizes too! I really liked my burger and tots. Cheese curds were a little garlic-y but still good. Wait staff was friendly and prompt. They made an announcement 10 minutes before boarding the shuttle so you have time to use the restroom. It's just a big school bus and you can take your drinks on board! And they pick you up after the game to bring you back to the bar. It was super efficient and well worth it! We will definitely come back. The atmosphere is fun and there's lots of TVs; truly and ideal sports bar.

Burgers are 30% off on Tuesday trivia night. They also have good happy hour drink deals and the tater tots are always perfectly crispy!

My friends and I would come here almost every week during the college semester! We always had so much fun! The drinks aren't too overpriced, and they're made well. On Wednesdays there is karaoke night, and it's great. Service can get really slow if it's a packed house like on Thursday nights. Just avoid this place on a Thursday at the end of a semester because it is horrible packed and hot. Can't move, can't dance, can barely order a drink. At that point, just go to PennyWhistle or Taylor Street Tap. The DJ on Thursdays kind of sucks and does not take requests, instead opting to make eardrums bleed by playing 'Baby' by Justin Bieber. The tater tots are awesome and most of the food is pretty solid. Drink specials are great and their monthly cocktails are very fun. Staff is overall very nice, they just get overwhelmed when there's a lot of people and things are busy. It's a 3.5star place. The main reason I come here is because my friends always want to come here, and they only come here because it has a dance floor and it's close to campus.

Very lively dive bar/restaurant. Very spacious with a lot of people but not overly crowded. We ordered honey bbq wings, nachos, and bang bang shrimp. I was nervous about ordering the wings at first bc they only offer skinless (not my preference) but I decided to go for it and WAS NOT disappointed 10/10. All of the food came out in a timely manner and was hot & fresh. The bang bang shrimp sauce wasn't everything I hoped for but the shrimp itself was good & it did not stop me from continuing to eat them. The nachos were great. No complaints were found there & the guacamole on top was flavorful & enjoyable too! We can't wait to come back to Hawkeye's!

Our server was great!!!!! The food is not good though. Easy to here for bigger crowds but that's it's best perk. Drinks are not very impressive. May be better to stick with beer here. Not my favorite place in area that's for sure.

The service was great and the atmosphere perfect. We expected regular bar fare but got so much more! The tarter sauce and cole slaw obviously homemade- those little touches- also great beer selection!

Back in the old neighborhood, my Mom was born a block away from here, 1921 this place is a great place to go before a Bulls game or Blackhawks game.the food is awesome.

Me and a friend went to Hawkeye's on Thursday, August 31st. The waitress was terrible. She had a fucky attitude and was very unprofessional. I don't know if it was because of my race or her lack of people skills. I will not be eating there again. Hawkeyes is no longer the restaurant it used to be. The service used to be excellent, and the food. Now the place, food, and service are just downright bad.

The food is great, never had any problem. Their sweet potato waffle fries are so good! And the Chili Ranch sauce they have for their cheese curds is so unique and tasty! The servers and bartenders are very friendly and attentive. Drinks are good and reasonably priced. Nice sports bar to watch sports. They have multiple tvs and are nice enough to change the channels when requested. Definitely check this place out!

Food and drinks were good. Came with a group of four and asked to split the bill by couple. When ringing us up we weren't allowed to review the bill and so I was accidentally charged for my friend's order. Not the biggest deal but shouldn't have happened.

I love their food. Customer service is good. The bang bang shrimp is one of my favorites items on the menu. Love that they have a free parking lot.

Generally, I love Hawkeyes and the ambiance... Especially during Blackhawks games. You can't beat it! But... I know prices have increased during the pandemic but $17.50 for a basic cheese burger? An $8 upcharge for chicken added to quesadillas? I expect an upcharge but 'ouch'. A side order of tots for $7 or $8 for waffle fries? Guys... They are still potatoes and they haven't gone up that much. That hits a bit too hard for me. What used to be an every week visit before the pandemic won't be able to continue in the future regretfully. Aside from price, the food was solid and the waitstaff prompt. The tunes were good and the Blackhawks were on TV. Absolutely no complaints around the experience overall although I still miss Ariel behind the bar! :-)

This place has completely fallen off. Went here looking for my usual good time, but no. Instead, I was served an already dead salad. How you may ask, listen and look at the corroded and shriveled items served to me on this sloppy salad. That was the first clue, looked like this was prepared from leftovers from other patrons. The spinach was completely withered, cucumbers were spoiled and extremely soggy, the onions had white stuff coming out the skin, you know that white think juicy substance when it's old, the red peppers were very wet and mushy. The server was inattentive, had to ask for the manager because she was too busy. Idk why at 9p on a Friday, there is only one bartender doing everything. People watch your food when you go out, we ordered a $5 flat bread, but the server wearing plain clothes, brought it out... had a full conversation over it, without saying a word sat it down between a ton of dirty dishes in front of other guests, then comes another server wearing a tank top reaching over it. After 10 mins we asked if that were ours and sure enough she said yes, I quickly said No. From that point on, we were on edge about everything, didn't feel comfortable drinking my beer, just paid for it and left. I don't recommend going here.

I went there to unwind took waitress 10 minutes to come and bring water after that she never came back and took my order I sat for over 30 minutes she never came back and it was not that busy so waited and waited no return so was very disappointed I left without even ordering anything .

Discovered this place through my daughter (The Heiress Apparent) who goes to school at UIC. This is out to go place for lunch when we drop her off after a weekend visit. If nothing else, the thing that keeps me and The Heiress Apparent coming back is our love of Ruebens and they do them three ways here: sandwich, egg rolls and a burger. All are great. the chili is pretty good and so is the meat loaf. I personally love the mac and cheese...very creamy. The sliders are a good choice if you are not too hungry, but want to nosh. A very chill vibe and the service is pretty good. They offer a ton of specials and you will definitely not leave there hungry.

Hawkeyes, your typical sports bar. They have 50 cent wings and they're mad decent. I'd come here for a game or something to watch. Outside of that, probably not my usual spot.

Pretty typical of a sports bar. Nothing fancy but it's a place where you can go and get some solid late night grub and drinksor watch the game on game day with a group of friends. Service is predictable in a sense that you're not going to get some over the top 5 star service but it's friendly and inviting. There's 2 sides so There's plenty of space to accommodate people. I have to admit this was my first time eating sweet potato fries and actually enjoying them. Try the fries,thank me later.

We got just some appetizers here and they were not that great. I mean it's fried food, it should always be tasty, but nah. Over cooked. Cheese sticks were like solid blocks of cheese inside. Too many good places to choose from in Chicago that I'll take a hard pass on going back here.

Went to Hawkeyes tonight for a quick bite with friends. Bouncer at the door was INCREDIBLY rude. One of our friends is not 21 and when asked for ID, she explained that she was just there to eat. Multiple times we have been there to just eat while they have events going on and they are able to sit us. They did not advertise tonight at any specific time it was going to be 21+. Less than 30 minutes later, my friend and I are in the downstairs area that is not closed off to customers and are taking pictures by their decorations. Multiple employees saw us downstairs and did not say anything. This same bouncer came up to us while downstairs and said "absolutely not get out". He was very aggressive. I said "ok fine" and tried to enter the bathroom. He said "no out of the establishment". Not only was he aggressive to two young women, he did not politely tell us we couldn't be down there. He followed us out of Hawkeyes and was shooing us out of there with his hand. He yelled to the bouncer "do not let these two back in tonight". His aggressive personality should not be the first person we are greeted with and frankly should not be interacting with customers at all. Please see attached photo for their advertisement for tonight- no where does it mention 21+.

I go to Hawkeyes at least once a week. I was there ton around 800 pm and it was horrible. The waitress were were at the bar making drinks without a mask. They were talking to the bartender with drinks already make without their masks. The busy boy walked around with his mask under his chin the entire time I was there. They were allowing customers to walk in without a mask when the door stating that you must were a mask when entering the restaurant. Customers were allowed to walk around the restaurant without a mask. I will never come there on a Saturday and possibly ever again. very unhappy

The Buffalo chicken sandwich is huge and quite tasty. I came for a late lunch on a Friday. The dining room had a large party and a couple of other diners. The waitress was helpful, she brought crayons for my kid and made appropriate suggestions. I'll definitely return. They have a parking lot but it's a block away.

They have trivia on Tuesday which is awesome, the food deals they have weekly are always good like half price pizza or burgers. I love how they spice things up with a beer of the month as well as a shot of the month.

An awesomely chill bar near the West side of UIC and Little Italy! Friends and I gathered here after work one day to eat, chill, talk about life... you know the drill. Here at Hawkeye's, we were pleasantly surprised at how good the quality and experience was. The restaurant is spacious and seems to drag on forever, but for a warm summer night, outdoor seating was perfect. We started off with their Bang Bangs Shrimp- a basket of sweetened fried shrimp laid over some slaw. The shrimp was not bad; wished it was a bit crispier, but it was good nonetheless. We also got our start off to some beers on draft. For $4 a pint, it was hard to beat. For my main meal, I ordered the Taylor Street Po Boy with waffle fries. It was loaded with more fried shrimp, fried cod, and slaw drizzled all over the seafood as it was neatly placed over some sourdough bread. The po boy content itself was good, but the bread lacked any real flavor or depth. It had to be set aside to make room for the waffle fries which were golden crispy and delicious. Come and have yourself a good time. It's a chill environment to reconnect with friends if you're in the area.

Vince, the server, could benefit from additional training on checking out patrons. He lacks basic communication skills and human decency. On Wednesday, June 7th, my co-workers and I decided to stop at Hawkeyes to celebrate the end of the school year. I work at a school with over 100 employees-everyone isn't familiar with each other. Most people came with a group and there was about 25 people in total from my school. I arrived with a group of four and we bar hopped prior to arriving at Hawkeyes. Therefore, we didn't order any food or drinks we just came for the karaoke experience. After 2 hours of enjoying ourselves, we decided to leave. Vince barbarically approached the exit and screamed at the top of his lungs. He called the manager and another employee to the front. We were confused. Jenna, the manager, was also puzzled as to why Vince reacted that way. Vince told us that we needed to cover an unpaid tab. I noticed the tab had a guest count of 5 and was started at 8:47pm. We came at 9:50pm and again, we were a group of four. Vince, It's your job as a server to keep track of your table. We weren't approached at all throughout the night. Why were we approached about a tab we had NO KNOWLEDGE OF before leaving? Vince appeared tired and confused. I'm assuming this was his first day. However, basic communication skills are required in order to be a server. My co-worker ended up covering a $215 tab that wasn't hers to avoid an unnecessary escalation of events- which would've been precipitated by Vince. Do Better Vince!

When have returned after over 2 years with our son! Great place, great service. Our son seems to have enjoyed the pretzels! Thank you again for a great time! - Team McG

Very rude and horrible service! I walked in politely and waited to be seated. A few moments later, I requested to be seated outside on the patio. The host responded in a very rude and aggressive tone saying "okay, we will seat you when we're ready". I immediately left the restaurant! I did go eat at Vintage restaurant across the street. Vintage had excellent service and excellent food! Highly recommend, Vintage!

Taylor street is weird. It's been hailed as the "Little Italy" of Chicago. I'm not exactly sure how that works out. There were 4 or 5 Thai places, a couple of frozen yogurt shops and of course Starbucks. Hawkeye's was bigger and cleaner than I expected. Food was also great - better than bar food for sure. There is quite an extensive menu though, complete with salmon dishes. This always makes me a little apprehensive. Draft beer list was basic and minimal at best. The bottle and can list had more craft offerings. Service was not spectacular. We learned quickly to order 2 beers at once because it took our server quite a while to get them to us. Tuesday was Trivia night. Also, not super impressed. No theme to speak of and lots of time between each question. Also, whoever was playing DJ needs some lessons on how to make a Spotify playlist. All in all, it was a good experience and we will be back if in the neighborhood.

Server Isaiah T is amazing ! He was very attentive and gave great service. The bartender ( I didn't get his name ) was great as well! We will definitely be back because of them. Wings are great so was the burger!

Id give it 0 stars. OWNER THREATENED TO BREAK MY OTHER LEG (im handicapped already) as he was physically chasing/kicking me out for posting an honest review about how small they're monday chicken wings/chicken toes are and how they dont have an accessible handicap bathroom and have SUPER slow service. Unprofessional, overcrowded, over priced, and poorly managed/owned‍ sorry im not sorry. Im just honest.

I came in to Hawkeyes a few weeks ago with some friends for their college night. We got sat down in the far back room and our waitress didn't come for 10 minutes so my friend and I decided to go to the bar to order drinks so we wouldn't miss the special on the well drinks, because the happy hour was about to be over. We walk over to order our drinks and the manager (white male) approached us basically saying we have to go sit down at our table because the waitress was coming to us "soon". I told him that we were tired of waiting and wanted to order drinks before the special was over and he threw a fit basically got mad and walked away and proceed to talk about us with other employees. This next part is partly my fault but the way it was handled was so unprofessional. We were waiting for our drinks in front of the waitress station (which we did not know at the time) and on of the waitress gets her drinks, turns around and spills them all over us. Didn't even say sorry or offered napkins. The bartenders then told us that we were standing in the waitress station and that basically it was all our fault. After that we just got a new waitress I'm not sure why but they just gave us a new one. Things went okay and she was really nice but just a mess. We ordered drinks we never got and then got charged for them and when we told her she was supposed to change the receipt and then kept forgetting to do it. In the end we just asked her if she could bring us the drinks we never got and she did. It was a terrible experience though. No one even came and apologized, not that I expected the unprofessional manager to come and say something but still it's like they didn't even value us as customers. Which sucks because I work in the bar/restaurant industry and know how it's like. I understand things can get crazy but that's why there is managers so they can deal with situations like these but unfortunately ours didn't even care. Will probably return for the Wednesday's nights bingo but will never get food their again. Update: did return again and service was better but still keeping at one star due to the fact that we were treated like we were trash that one time.

So I was at RUSH hospital. Searched bars... found Hawkeyes. Attentive staff, boom water, boom drinks, boom order, boom delicious and plentiful. Boom many staff check ups... it was a pleasant lunch and worth the mention. After my mom's craneotomy surgery. I needed a positive event. Boom Hawkeyes produced! I will return to Hawkeyes again

During this difficult time, finding a location that is open, has great food and ambiance to accommodate the safety precautions are quite hard. On a recent visit to Hawkeye's this weekend, I was pleasantly surprised by the welcoming environment presented by the owners on their sidewalk patio and partial street closure. The new owners took over the bar in December after a long past affiliation as bartenders and patrons of the bar. Not much time to make major changes but the pandemic presented a unique opportunity to simply focus on the user experience for attentiveness and with great staff. I was appreciative that they have noticed the diversity in the patrons since the 20+ years of being affiliated with the bar. Food was delicious, waitresses served us well and were quite accommodating throughout our meal. Wish them the best as they take this place to the next steps in being a staple in the neighborhood.

Haven't heard of this place as I'm a suburbanite. Found it on the app TooGoodToGo and WOW! Great service/workers and I didn't think I would get much or as delicious stuff, even soup. Great atmosphere too!! Now I've tried and know they're ALL good, I'll definitely return anytime I'm in the area. QUESADILLAS, CHILI, CHEESE CURDS, even the MASHED POTATOES and more, it was all so good! Yes, I definitely recommend this place and again, i would for sure return.

I went for a quick happy hour drink and dang those prices are solid. $3 for well cocktails and 4 for the beer of the month on tap. Not too shabby. Chill environment. A lot of older people tho. Looks like a bunch of people are regulars and that's cool. They had some free beer swag by the door. You can never have too many beer bottle openers. Overall pretty chill. Place is more on the dimly lit side, but you can hide and chill by the bar or at a table. Staff nice!

I went here before a show at the UIC Pavilion. I've never really hung out around the UIC campus and heard this is one of the popular bars. We just ate here and grabbed a few drinks while watching the Bulls game. It wasn't too crowded and we got a table near the front. For appetizers we got the tater tots and the onion strings. Usually when I think of appetizers it's something on the smaller side that everyone shares just to get a couple bites. But when they brought out the onion strings, it was the size of a damn brick haha. I'm not one to complain about getting TOO MUCH food though haha. The tots also came in a huge basket. The first couple of bites of both appetizers were really good. But after a while you realize how greezy everything is and the oil just starts to build up in your stomach. I felt like I needed a shower to wash all the grease off my hands and face. Then I ordered the build your own burger. I liked how they had a lot of good sauce options like chipotle mayo and spicy ranch. The burger itself was pretty tasty and I definitely saved off some onion strings from that brick to put on top of the burger. Overall, it's a decent bar to catch and game and grab some good old fashioned greasy bar food if you're hungry.

Went on a Tuesday for trivia which starts at 8 pm and it was also 1/2 off burgers. Got the Deluxe Cheddar N' Bacon Burger. It is $14 but got it for $7. It's pretty basic. I wouldn't get it for that price but it was a good thing we went on 1/2 off price burgers night. I liked how they had some mean, thick bacon. You can actually taste it. I got it with tater tots. I love their tots. It was a bit crunchy which I love. Also had the California Jack burger. It is $14.50 and got it for $7.25. It has Jalapeño jack cheese, avocado, sliced jalapeños, and chipotle mayo. I thought it was okay. It was a really good size burger. The only flavor you can taste on this one is the jalapeño. If they put chipotle mayo on it, I would've never known--tasted like there was none. The service was okay. Our server was just there. She didn't smile or show any emotions. It was purely transactional. She came by often to check up on us which was good. I probably wouldn't come back here again. It wasn't the best sports bar I've been to.
