I am VERY happy with my visit here; the store itself, the land, the surrounding area. A beautiful ecosystem.. being built and continued here. I spent the afternoon here on the land and closed my trip at the store itself. I purchased an abundance of goodies here at the store and brought some back for the family in the city. Each are VERY happy— between the eggs, the cherries, blueberries, dried mangoes, a beautiful local Artisal card! All is fresh and of quality. This is officially my new go-to! I had the honor to explore and connect with the land, as well; Heather being my guide. Very grateful. 🙏

Google
The Pros: Great country setting, courteous staff in the market. The Cons: Warm AND outdated yogurt in frig section. Had a spoonful and spit it out. Stale blueberry baked good (made in Hudson, NY); prices are insane ($12 for 16oz honey which is no more than $8-9 everywhere else). The salami and provolone premade sandwiches had wet, slimy bread when we opened the wrapping. Gross. We were SUPER disappointed. High expectations based on the setting but a total let down to have that many products all expired, sour and legally unsaleable. WOW!

Google
Great little supermarket with a little bit if everything: coffee, in-house bakery for bagels and pastries, veggies, craft beers, snacks and foods (fresh homemade as well as packaged), and a buffet to boot. Pleasant atmosphere and place to eat.

Google
Well worth the drive from wherever you are within a hundred miles of this beautiful farm there's a feeling when you walk in the store and you just feel healthy being there I spent an hour and a half there last weekend and it's such a blessing I can't wait to go back there's so much to see there you should go bring the family.

Google
No place like it! If you're passing through the area, you can stop through the Farm Store for a brief window into the Hawthorne Valley Association's community, which includes a 900 acre biodynamic farm and a Waldorf school.

Google
Incredible place producing high quality food. Great people and grocery store with everything you could need

Google
A horrifically overpriced, greenwashed charade; a carefully cultivated visage of what the ideal farm looks like to a lifelong Manhattan resident.

Google
Come here for the pesto. It’s the BEST pesto outside of Italy.

Yelp
Everything about this place is perfection. The breads are incredible. Great selection of products and friendly staff. Go here

Yelp
This store evidently has special customers that they give special privileges to which has upset many. For example they allow one customer to control the public bulletin board where the person favors her inner circle.

Yelp
Fresh items don't look fresh. Limited selection and some produce moldy. Not worth going out of your way... only if you're local or desperate.

Yelp
I have not actually patronized this store, but when I rolled up on a bike, 45 minutes before opening on Wednesday but having forgotten enough food for my ride, one of the employees handed me a granola bar (his own, not from inventory), so this review feels like the least I could do.

Yelp
30 acres of diversified vegs, a creamery (fresh milk), a school (FARM Beginnings program), 300-member CSA (mostly NYC and Riverdale), bakeries, event space... Farm store (with its separate 6-acre human-scale garden with 2 acres in vegetable production). Five farmers co-manage the enterprises here. Beautiful farm started in the 70s. Certified biodynamic.

Yelp
Treked up about 90 minutes to get here because they make their own fermented foods and raw milk. But what I found was SO much more - They have a natural foods market, with lots of organic produce, raw milk + cheeses, a bulk section, coffee, fresh bread and even healthy hot food station. My free-range chicken with herbs was moist and loaded with flavor. Cute picnic tables outside if you'd like to eat there. Prices aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for because it's fresh, organic healthy food. It can't be a regular stop for me, but if I'm anywhere close to area, I'll go out of my way to visit and stock up!

Yelp
I stopped by recently and loved this store. The store is a bit pricey but there are so many products from the farm and neighboring farms. If you have a few extra minutes I suggest taking a walk around the farm. During my visit we saw cows, horses, chicken, sheep, and piglets.

Yelp
I love this store. Fresh, High quality produce. Great products. Clean environment. The store is on the expensive side, to be expected in the organic food store category.

Yelp
Great place to stop by and get your organic, local meats, veggies and dairy products. You will occasionally score a real treasure, like just-picked,fresh baby greens or radishes. Their sauerkraut and pickles are very good. We have also had hot food here on occasion, it has always been delicious. They will occasionally have items on clearance at great prices.

Kathleen P.

Yelp
This is a great little store with lots of local items, and as a non-profit all the sales benefit the farm and school. The staff are so friendly and helpful, and for the quality of items the prices are reasonable. I highly recommend shopping here!

Yelp
This place is a good metaphor for what's wrong with society today. We live almost 2 hours away and only get here once or twice a year. They make cookies that we love because there isn't any sugar in them and they're made with organic ingredients. We knew we were passing by on the way home from Canada so we ordered 10 boxes of the cookies. We've done this before and they freeze well. We get there and no cookies. No record of the order. Nothing. Nobody knows anything about it. Not even curious as to why we ordered 10 boxes. Just a cursory apology and a shop full of people overly concerned with whether or not they're eating chicken that has been humanely raised... concerned with using recycled plates and cutlery, concerned with ingesting chemicals, etc. they don't give a s#*t about another person (silly as it may seem) that has been looking forward to these cookies for more than 10 months. They're masquerading as aware and sympathetic and respectful people via what they eat and how they treat the environment when in actuality they are Aging hippies living as hypocrites who have clearly forgotten what the hippy movement was all about. They are obsessed with putting only pure organic ingredients into their bodies which is great but extremely selfish because it ends there What a bunch of crap! Maybe those cookies were for a kids party, a donation to those less fortunate, a wish for someone sick. In keeping with the phoniness, the prices are absurd! I hope someone who owns this store reads this. Try to understand that before you can earn the right to care about how animals are treated and care about your impact on the environment, you need to care about the person standing next to you. I understand that's more difficult and it takes more effort outward rather than towards yourself. Otherwise, you are so obviously narrow whilst in your effort to appear exactly the opposite.

Yelp
It's not that Hawthorn Valley doesn't have great products, because the do. Fabulous, local products. Cheese, milk, eggs, produce, meat, etc. Local. I love that. I'd heard so much of this place and I was so excited to visit on a recent tour of Columbia County. I'd even skipped my weekend visit to the farmer's market in anticipation. The problem is the prices. You expect a place like this to be more expensive than your average supermarket. That would be reasonable. But wow. I haven't seen prices this high since I first visited a Whole Foods supermarket. These prices are higher than that! I can't understand how people afford to shop there or how they stay in business because I think they must appeal to a very small, elite population. This working woman won't be back.

Yelp
This farm store has everything you could imagine in a small store. Everything from milk, to fruits, to ice cream, to a salad bar, to everything! The Hawthorne Valley Farm Store is absolutely amazing. A little pricey, but worth the great food!

Yelp
Have for years lived in area and finally stopped today.Walked in and first thought,"fresh seafood"from the smell. There is no seafood there. No one spoke as we looked at the overpriced foods, very unfriendly feel. Not sure what the deal was, very, very strange.Dont waste your time, unless you like feeling like an alien.

Yelp
Hands down best grocery store in the area. Excellent selection of local produce and meat as well as bulk foods and natural health/beauty department. Highly recommend!

Steven K.

Yelp
I increasingly do almost all my food and grocery shopping here, despite the prices for organic produce [I just buy less]. My real addiction is the hot food at the salad bar, especially the brisket on Thursdays and the flank steak whenever that is cooked. The kitchen is really skilled and the ingredients are top of the line. These vittles sell out fast, so beware! Plus the checkout line moves fast. Every staffer is courteous and knowledgeable. Just great vibes. Unlike Ilze E. below, I cannot think of one complaint!

Marge K.

Yelp
I shop at their booth by Columbia U every week. Their sauerkraut and juices are the best. Cheese and yogurt are also great. One day, I want to make the trip to the farm.

Michael R.

Yelp
I love their varieties of sauerkraut and kimchee. Carrot-Ginger, Turmeric and the two from South America. Great place to visit as it is a short drive from Hudson, NY

Yelp
I have mixed feelings about this place. It's the only place around to get raw milk and I appreciate that. The rest of the food though is significantly higher priced than the other coops I shop at. By about 35% (!) Also....If you have to pee...hold it. Super dirty nasty bathroom. Urine covering the seat and bowl full a poop. Ewwww.

Yelp
Hello organic food store of my dreams. My mom has been telling me about this place for months. She comes home with some of the coolest looking products I haven't seen anywhere else and then I'm like when she tells me the price. Not bad. Then she tells me she went there for lunch and describes something new and delicious-sounding every time. Well, I finally checked it out since I started working at a place nearby and boy it is glorious. First, it's across from an adorable school so children are hanging out. Secondly, there's a bulletin board for community events out front that made me feel right at home. The woman at the cash register was so kind and they had a sale on Epic bars!!!! They had my two favorite flavors and most places only have chicken sriracha! Yes!!!! So, I adore this place. I also picked up a guava popsicle with only about 4 ingredients in it - nothing weird. Loved the hot food bar... oh my god I will obviously be back.

Yelp
It's pretty much set up as a regular health food store, but with fresh breads and a good cheese and dairy case as well as local/grass-fed meat section. I don't eat bread, so can't speak to the quality although looks good, but like their selection of raw cheeses, raw milk and lacto-fermented sauerkraut. If I weren't following the Weston A Price diet, I'd probably rate it three stars -- although if I lived closer by, I'd be very happy.

Yelp
Great variety of baked items, cheeses and meat products. Try their sauerkraut products as well. Prices are on the high side, but so is the quality. Be sure to treat yourself to a self guided tour of the farm as well.

Skye A.

Yelp
Prices are super high, old fashioned friendliness is gone, milk is commercial now.. not true grass fed, the raw kraut is made in plastic bins, then packed in glass.. if you want authentic food find a real farm.

Yelp
I really love the Hawthorne Valley Store. It is the perfect example of community, healthy food, and an "old school" co-op atmosphere. They aren't very fancy, and they don't need to be. They have a great choice of foods, support community farmers and other residents, and keep it real. The store is as quaint as the rest of the area, and I have heard wonderful things about the school as well. Well worth a trip!

Yelp
Excellent quality and competitive prices especially when compared to locally available organic products including co-ops -- like the one in Great Barrington. But if you're comparing to Walmart or even Trader Joe's, then they, the 1%, win.

Louise R.

Yelp
Whenever I come into Columbia County I have to make a shop at the Farm Store. Not only can I find what I'm looking for in terms of organic/Bio-dynamic produce and grocery, not to mention a full line of in house bakery products. The prepared foods NEVER disappoint! Always clean, well organized and friendly staff. Wish we lived closer. Someday !

Yelp
What can I say... I love this place. The prepared food is amazing. The organic bakery is the only place I can find certified organic raw milk and bagels in possibly the entire country. We wish you could find a way to make organic gluten-free bread, keep on that. The organic selection is wonderful and many specialty items I can't find elsewhere. We go about every couple months. Most of the staff is friendly, it's a bit clicky so don't be surprised if you feel that.

Ilze E.

Yelp
Back to the land? Back to the ATM. Pricey. There is just something very aloof and disconnected about this place - yes the food is good but the overall atmosphere makes you feel like you are just not. Its unfortuate.

N.S. A.

Yelp
Adrenal Support, NatraBio product; and was $9 in the store; I got it online for half that price. I want to support local business, but do I need to pay ONE HUNDRED PERCENT more? Maybe 10 or 20 % more; that is one thing. I am not sure this store is able to be very competitive on pricing, which seems like a problem to me.
