"Serving New York-style and tavern-style bar pies since 2004, this pizzeria prides itself on being family friendly in each of its eight restaurants, but the Elizabeth neighborhood is home to the original location. For pre-gaming before a night on the town, a casual meal with friends, or a dinner with family, there is something for everyone including a gluten-sensitive menu featuring a cauliflower crust and alternative sauce options. If you dare, try the legendary Inducer, a Buffalo hot sauce-layered pizza with chicken and mozzarella cheese that boasts as being the famous last meal for hundreds of expectant mothers in the last days of their pregnancy." - Nikki Miller-Ka

I initially had an issue with my delivery and the lovely manager offered us a full refund, a free pizza, and a free cannoli. We went to eat right after HeroesCon, in full cosplay, and the wait staff was super kind and friendly with us despite our outfits. One of my friends has several severe food allergies and our server, Richard, was excellent about checking with the kitchen multiple times to ensure she would be able to eat the food. Overall, we had a great time and I’d definitely come back again!

I just wanted to express my sincere appreciation for the wonderful experience my boyfriend and I had at your restaurant. Everything, from the outstanding food quality to the exceptional customer service, was simply perfect. The waitress was incredibly attentive, and we were especially impressed by the owner's professionalism and dedication to customer respect. We also appreciated the owner's attentiveness to all the customers and how he supported his employees during busy times. It's clear that he values both his staff and his customers. Overall all Amazing!!! Thank you again for a memorable dining experience. We look forward to returning soon.

Google
Stopped by Hawthorne Pizza recently and overall had a good experience. The staff was really friendly and made us feel welcome right away. The food was solid, nothing mind-blowing but definitely satisfying, and the prices were fair for what you get. The only real downside was the ambiance. The place felt a bit cramped and outdated and everything was loud, not exactly a spot you'd want to hang out in for long. Still, if you're looking for decent pizza and good service without breaking the bank, it’s worth a visit.

Google
I always enjoy coming here...brought my son for his birthday for his first time and he enjoyed it. We got the Hawthorne Cajun Pasta.

Google
Great New York-style pizza. I usually don't actually make it home before eating some in the car. The garlic knots are really delicious as well. My daughter likes the Fettuccine Alfredo. The only downside is that there are limited parking spaces and sometimes I have struggled to find a spot. Otherwise, I would recommend highly.

Google
Amazing food. Closest thing to Italian authentic food I got since New York New Jersey Boston and St. Louis. Their food and pies are all from scratch ingredients. You can actually watch them work by hand in the kitchen. They have booths and a nice bar 🍸 They have an outside patio for outdoor eating. Desert variety and wine 🍷 and drinks. Pricey appetizers, but the servings are well worth the price you'll pay. I highly recommend Hawthorne's. 👌🏾 ☺️ I will update my post with some pictures next visit.

Google
Went here for dinner last night and sat outside. I got a Personal Pizza with Pepperoni. Took almost a hour to get our food. When it arrived it had sausage on it, not what i ordered. As soon as i bit into it it was super sweet. Turns out they put honey on it. Furthermore we got a single napkin. Worst pizza i have ever had in my entire life. You’re better off going to the store and getting frozen pizza.

Google
The food here is consistently phenomenal! The lasagna 10/10… the vodka sauce 10/10… the garlic knots 10/10… service depends on the day but the food is always great…always… big ups to the cooks … food taste fresh good portions and we can’t get enough. Definitely on my top 3 list of Charlotte casual dine in restaurants. This location!!! I’m sure they’re all great but we have a location closer to us in university and still drive down to this one❤️

Yelp
Everything was amazing. The food and service were superb. My server was new and you'd never have known. The manager visited my table and was very sincere.

Yelp
I had a pretty disappointing food experience here recently. I came in for dinner and we ordered the Sicilian pizza with sausage. The pizza came out very doughy, not crispy at all and lack of topping. There was hardly any cheese, sauce, or sausage. Some pieces did not even have sausage. It looked fine at first, but after having a few bites we realized these issues. Now for almost $30 it was truly upsetting that they would serve a pizza like this. Pizza is one of my favorite foods and so I know what to look for. The manager and staff were very nice and understanding. They listened to my concerns and they were very kind. I appreciate having a team who care about their customers. I would not recommend getting this style of pizza at this restaurant. They obviously do not specialize in it. I would much rather try something more simple here and go elsewhere for a specialty pizza.

Yelp
I recently ordered a crew pizza and paid extra ($3+ extra) for green peppers to be added. Pizza these days is expensive and this one came close to $30 for a large! My husband picked up the pizza and when he got home we found out there were no green peppers added. Ok.. fine we ate the pizza anyways and it was good but I was still bothered that I paid extra for something I did not receive. I contacted Hawthorne pizza through their website and have yet to get a response. Dissatisfied so far and will shop around at the many other pizza places in the neighborhood.

Yelp
I've been to Hawthorne's in Highland Creek several times. This was my first time at this location and it was utterly disappointing. We waited over 40 minutes after ordering to receive a personal pan pizza, baked ziti, and a Philly cheesesteak. Our waiter was training another waiter and spent most of their time focusing on training then actually checking in with us. Once our order finally came out the cheesesteak didn't even have cheese. The pan pizza was underwhelming. After talking with the manager about the mistake in our order she claimed that the order would come out soon. It did not. She never returned to check if everything was ok. We watched the cook not only eat while they were making pizza, but they were on their phone as well. The entire experience was frustrating and honestly seemed avoidable. It was quite disheartening.

Yelp
A home run! We've heard a lot about this place, since it is so close to our church. We shared the antipasto salad and a pepperoni and sausage Stromboli. Both were spectacular! And just perfect for sharing. Can't wait to come back. Their large, 18 inch pizzas look huge, and they would be awesome to share when we come here with our kids. Great ambience, excellent service, and spectacular food! Five out of five stars for sure!

Elaina M.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our food and drink experience here. We had pizza, wings and garlic knots. Restaurant itself is very spacious with plenty of seating inside and out and can accommodate large groups. They lost a star for service (and this is only based on this experience) but our waitress, who wasn't doing a bad job at all, kept apologizing to us when she'd come to the table. When I'm buying food I don't want to stop my conversation to motivate the server. Just my opinion. Otherwise, go for the food!!!

Dawn B.

Yelp
Stopped by here for a quick meal for myself. This location is uptown, right across from Sabor. I walked in and was told to order my to go meal from the bar. The bartender was welcoming and nice. I ordered a 9 inch pizza with mushrooms, chicken and pepperoni. It was pretty good. The only criticism would be for them not to chop up the mushrooms. I would have liked them more if they were simply sliced. Also the Saturday night i was there, they were out of Juicy Jay on draft and Jack Daniel's. The crust had a nice crew and with 3 toppings, my total came to around $15. I would come back when I have a craving for pizza.

H R.

Yelp
Server - Sandra Awful server. Very passive aggressive. I ordered water. No lemon. No straw. She brought a water with two lemons and was giving me a straw when I put my hand up and said no thank you. Then I took the two lemons and handed them to her. I ordered Hawthorne salad. All good there. I ordered an individual pizza with white onion and mushroom. A small cup of ranch on the side. It came without the ranch. She asked me later if I wanted anything else. Nope. She said she would get the bill. 10 minutes later I'm wondering where she is when I see her talking to the other waitresses behind the counter. I got up and went to the hostess stand. Waited for her to give me the bill. I tipped 15% and I won't go back to the restaurant. Will continue with carry out. Food is good. Service sucks.

Brittany S.

Yelp
We heard from a neighbor this place had really delish pizza so we had to give it a go. It was my son's 10th bday which was on a Tuesday and he wanted pizza. We came unknowingly kids eat free Tuesday- score for mommy! We ordered the Basil mozzarella pizza and it was amazing! Similar to a Margarita pizza but had drizzles of balsamic glaze which I never thought to put on pizza but was a perfect fit. The kids each ordered their own mini-pies and were excited to have their "own" pies. The staff was super friendly and we will be back! My kids are already bugging me about it!

Sheree F.

Yelp
Really really good New York style pie!!!! We got extra cheese lightly done and it was fabulous!! It was lightly done just like we asked. DoorDash did a great job getting it here hot. We are visiting and ended up getting three pies three separate times. Delicious!!!

Eric M.

Yelp
I went to Hawthornes and had a great experience. The Florentine pasta was fresh and delicious! They have great homemade bread and the mozzarella sticks were cooked perfectly. They had a nice wine special and the server was knowledgeable and vocal on their specials. The space is warm and inviting and the staff is always friendly.

Ken H.

Yelp
Fantastic pizza, great Stromboli, and top notch customer service. Parking lot is a little dicey at lunch time but the food is worth it. We got the thick Sicilian cheese. All kinds of melt in your mouth wonderful. Finally found a place in the south to get pizza!

Ashley F.

Yelp
Hawthorne's in Elizabeth is really one of my go to's for solid pizza and wings any day. I've never dined in until today though. There's not much to write home about inside this location, it's clean but super chill. Your typical neighborhood pizza joint. I had the garlic knots which were reeeeeally garlicky but GREAT! Also ordered a veggie personal pan and it hit the spot. Next time I'm gonna add some other toppings though because it was kinda bland. Parking is tight, we lucked up and got a spot right behind Hawthorne's though so it was a breeze this time. Overall, I'm a satisfied Yelper :)

Danielle L.

Yelp
I ordered DoorDash from here for the first time and I was super happy with my order! When I'm first trying pizza, I always go classic, pepperoni. I ordered an 18" pepperoni and a side of ranch (obviously). The pizza was great! It's not gourmet or fancy, but it's dang good neighborhood pizza and definitely New York-esque (from a Northeastern girl!) Will likely become a go to delivery spot for me!

Jenny C.

Yelp
Hawthorne's NY Pizza & Bar is amazing! I typically am not a fan of thin crust pizza but theirs is fantastic! Their garlic knots are delicious as well. I brought them home and put them in the air fryer and it tasted as great in the restaurant. Will definitely be coming back with friends and family!

Karen R.

Yelp
Me and Brad wanted to have a relaxing sunday watching 7 HOURS of commercial free football with Scott Hanson (my celebrity crush, he is so cute). Decided to order pizza and wings from this local place and I'll tell you what this was the best pizza I have ever had, even good as leftovers the next day. I think there is a correlation between the type of pizza the guy buys and how good they are in bed LOL. Because my ex husband Randy would only get dominoes and he was always a disappointment in bed (Chelsea, I hope you love shitty pizza and shitty sex because thats all you will get with my ex husband). XOXO Karen PS- do any tech wizards know how to change your password becasue Randy has been hacking all of my logins and I want him logged out of my yelp account

Ronnie H.

Yelp
I ordered the chicken parmesan dish from this restaurant. The food had little task, was a bit dry, and the chicken used as chicken parmesan was more like two chicken strips. It wasn't enjoyable. The chicken was hot but unusually hot as in microwave hot and was not good, and not fresh. This place may be fine for some, but I don't think it should be called a restaurant. This was a delivery order with doordash as the delivery service. The delivery person did not deliver as instructed but left my order on the ground in front of an office near my home. That, coupled with the quality of the food, really left me very disappointed. I would not recommend this restaurant as an excellent place to eat or spend your money.

Deb W.

Yelp
We've eaten here several times and this location is consistently good and the staff is friendly and welcoming. Kim is exceptional and always giving great service and making sure you have what you need and up front about specials. We had the Crew Pizza and have eaten there Elizabeths Pizza (my favorite). Good salads, Mozzarella sticks, Mussels, etc. Ive eaten at another Charlotte location-but this one is the best and always busy. Parking can be limited but plenty of room around back. Highly recommend for families as they allow the kids a small pizza and free dough balls for fun!

Roberta F.

Yelp
We went for chicken caesar and small pizza. Not NY style. Service fine, salad good. No drinks. Surprised they charged us. We gad to jump up from roaches under our table. Happens, but they didnt seem to care.

Lisa S.

Yelp
Authentic NY pizza! Our go to for carry-out during a busy work week. Also, love love love their meatballs. Salads are fresh, too. Staff is super nice! Good energy!

Raquel S.

Yelp
Came here for some pizza and sat outside on the patio. We ordered a caprese salad and a pizza. Both were good. The caprese salad needed salt. Service was good. I always appreciate when the server brings out clean plates before we have to ask for them. Parking is limited so try to get there early to get a spot.

Mateo M.

Yelp
Ordered online the Elizabeth Special full size(I think 18"?), and was able to pick it up in about 35 min. I can't truly speak to whether it is "Authentically New York", but the crust was thinner, and the slices were big enough to fold before gobbling them down, so I was sold. The pizza itself was pretty good. The toppings were flavorful, the crust was just the right amount of chewy and the cheese was, well, it was cheese. The first few bites seemed a bit salty, but after that my tongue either got used to it or it all evened out(and I didn't wake up the next day completely parched, so probably I just hot a salty spot). Would have rated 5 stars, but kinda expensive; total came to $28...which was decidedly un New Yorkish, where slices can be only a few dollars. So try it you like, but make sure you skip lunch so you can afford a full pie.

Maria M.

Yelp
Their pasta dishes are consistently good quality, made in a timely manner, hot, taste is good , and consistency goes a long way these days in the restaurant industry. I have never eaten in, we always take it to go. Their pasta menu includes gluten free options.

Stephen D.

Yelp
Just got a chicken calzone and though this is such a simple item it was very amateurish. Small and not even closed up. Fell open/apart as I was cutting it. Tasted ok but couldn't help to be disappointed on wasting the calories on something not great.

Trice B.

Yelp
I'd pass on the pizza if you fancy yourself a discerning pizza lover like myself. Many people are not, so they'll be satisfied almost anywhere. The staff was very accommodating and patient with any questions, which was nice. It may have been on me for ordering something I wasn't blown away by. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their food. Wings, salad, and garlic knots (these were really good). The wings were cooked well, had good flavor and were meaty. I begrudgingly looked at my table mate's chicken while munching on my less than satisfying chicken bacon ranch pizza, something I don't usually order. Serves me right.

Chad H.

Yelp
Save your money. Just paid $11 for the world's tiniest calzone. It literally looks and tastes like a toasted hot pocket, lol. I can see why it's limited to two toppings. It's a third of the size of a small 10" x 10" pizza box (see photo). Normally, I get calzones from Sal's or Portofino's where size absolutely matters, but I fell prey to a $10 off DoorDash coupon. I'm not even mad I'm laughing so hard. And don't get me started with the $12 overcooked dinner roll sprinkled with meat and onions (I think there was cheese?)... Maybe I ordered the only two bad things on the menu--I certainly hate dragging a place--unfortunately I won't make the same mistake to ever find out. Good luck!

Bou B.

Yelp
(they weren't busy (dead actually) for a late lunch on Friday. That being said...) Best garlic knots I've ever had! generous sized and tasty loaded with garlic & oil? crispy exterior with some soft interior chew My son had a child's cheese pizza. It arrived quickly and looked appetizing. He ate it and said it was good. note: he's a bit of a pizza snob, considering I make our own sourdough pizzas at home frequently. The Godfather sandwich was decently sized and served hot, but with cool tomatoes and onions. It's served on a delicious ciabatta style bun made fresh daily. I give it a 8 outta 10. Maybe a little hotter filling and thinner sliced onions would bump it up. As I've stated, they were very slow, but service was excellent. The server was knowledgeable about the menu and the GM was present and attentive. I'll be back for those garlic knots!

Alex H.

Yelp
Yes, I do pineapple on my pizza, and no, I'm not a serial killer they have a nice little twist to the Hawaiian by adding pulled pork. I'm giving it five stars because it appears to consistency of the crust on pizza across here in Charlotte it's more of a cracker rather than the doughy consistency this pizza connoisseur is used to.

Melissa S.

Yelp
Just know that if you order using DoorDash....even if you order a salad, chocolate cake and ice cream ... they only send utensils if you request them. Guess I'll be eating my meal with my fingers. Not! We spent almost $70 and this is the service we get.

Julia L.

Yelp
A delicious pepperoni pizza!!! Seriously very good. Will 100% order takeout from them again! One point...they tend to get super busy with takeout orders so order in advance and be prepared to wait a little!

Ashley B.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I have been on the hunt for the perfect alfredo pasta, because we can't just "settle" for Olive Garden. Who else can relate? Found Hawthorne's, and now I'm obsessed! They even have an app to order, and they make it so simple. I always give bonus points to Italian places that allow you to substitute and customize dishes because who likes to be basic? My perfect order from this place is the fettuccini alfredo with shrimp! Their side of bread is delicious and baked perfectly. My boyfriend prefers the bread to be more dough-y, but I like it when it's a bit more crispy. 9/10 perfect for the Italian food lovers who want to change it up sometimes

Jess H.

Yelp
The pizza is terrible. I paid $27 for an "extra cheese" pizza. They charged $3 for extra cheese and didn't even put it on. Not to mention I paid $.75 for a pizza sauce and ranch that were the smallest cups I've ever seen should be .25 cents at the most. The pizza arrived cold and with a puddle on grease on the top. Legit oil pool. The crust was tough, chewy and had absolutely NO FLAVOR. No salt nothing. Like a pieces of cardboard. I'll definitely never order from here again. Cheese Pizza

A L.

Yelp
The Long Island style wings are our favorite. The pizza and garlic knots are good. It's hard to get close to NY and NJ style pizza but this place is better than a lot of other options in charlotte

Jamie I.

Yelp
Omg garlic knots. The pizza was good but the garlic knots were soo good. Very friendly staff and the place has indoor and outdoor seating.

Kaylah D.

Yelp
We were in the area, my bf's old "stomping grounds." He had good memories of this place. Actually, said "they have the best pizza!" That's all l needed to hear. $10 for a 9". Very small! 18" is other option- $23.99!!! What! This pizza MUST be good! I ordered two 9" pizzas. NO! The pizza was terrible! Burned on the bottom, practically NO SAUCE or MEAT! I looked at other pics on YELP. Why does my pizza look NOTHING like that?! I hate to think this way, but did l just experience some type of racism?! I ordered the meat eater's, minus italian sausage, add green peppers. I tried to like it. They canNOT be serious with this! If l lived closer, l would have gone back. NEVER again!

Rhiana W.

Yelp
Honestly - I love pizza and am pretty easy to please. This pizza tasted like the pizza you get at an all inclusive in the Caribbean. It was bad. Like really bad. Raw uncooked veggies on my pizza with no seasonings or flavor. Go anywhere else for pizza!

Joe M.

Yelp
I was referred here by some folks in line at another place that sold out. This is a good pie! The folks were super nice then I went to grab my Togo order at the wrong door. The pizza was on point, hot and very big!

John H.

Yelp
I'm a fan of the "neighborhood pizza place" of which Hawthorne's fits the bill perfectly. I know they have several locations in the Charlotte area, but Charlotte also has a lot of neighborhoods to keep happy (and the neighborhoods keep growing it seems). All the construction on Hawthorne Ln with the bridge removal has probably made it super hard for this location, but they recently opened the street back up so it feels like there's a light at the end of the tunnel. They have more than just pizza here! Salads, pastas, and sandwiches... the food definitely shines here. Probably my favorite thing is watching little kids climb up the staircase so they can watch the pizza makers toss the dough and they even get some of their own to be interactive. TVs surround the walls so probably not a bad spot to watch a game or event. Though, I do have to note that it was a slow event day since one of the TVs had a professional corn hole tournament on it. The staff are always friendly, I can see the place getting super busy so you just have to be patient sometimes. A neighborhood pizza place is definitely to be enjoyed, not rushed! Relax with the beers on tap. I had a local brew from Legion just for the Elizabeth 8k to where Hawthorne's is one of the sponsors for the race.

Karen K.

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere! Service has been excellent every visit. You will love this place. Sitting outside is the best!

John L.

Yelp
Just picked up a sicillian for my wife who had just given birth and was in the hospital. Got a burnt to a crisp brick that was 100% inedible. Would rather have ate the hospital cafeteria food.

Julie P.

Yelp
Came to Hawthorne's for one specific item, the inducer, but after our first visit, we know it won't be our last. We came in on a Sunday evening and it was relatively quiet inside and not too busy, but I think the Hawthorne St. construction effects it. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised to find this wasn't just a pizza joint, but a pizza and Italian restaurant spot similar to what we would find in the northeast. The smells as soon as we entered were intoxicating and I debated my pizza decision upon entering, but we we were on a mission. I ordered a side house salad with their house dressing to start and a 9" of their buffalo chicken (the inducer) pizza. My husband started with their mozerella sticks and a 9" of the Elizabeth pizza. He didn't want mushrooms on his pizza and they let him "swap" toppings without an additional fee or anything, which was awesome. The side salad was massive, and their house dressing was really good...just tangy enough. My husband enjoy his sticks (which is a hard thing to mess up). The pizzas came out and they were piping hot, but had that delicious crispy crust and melty cheese perfection that I look for in a good slice. The 9" was a perfect size to have for dinner and then have some leftovers for lunch the next day. Overall, I was impressed with Hawthorne's and even though the inducer didn't work for me (little lady is stubborn), we will be back after she's born to try some of their pasta dishes!

Madison D.

Yelp
The greatest pizza! You get a lot for the $, greatest pizza around. Perfect size for a party too!! Been here many times and the service is always amazing and quick. Nice people, good food. Just try it!

Nyal P.

Yelp
This place is horrible. Their service is the worst in all of Charlotte and the people making the food in the back take happiness in poisoning you with month old meat they dropped on the floor before serving you. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!

Brian M.

Yelp
It was extremely disappointing. There was little cheddar cheese & the dough was undercooked.

Jzhanece F.

Yelp
I ordered food from this location through DoorDash, and I received the wrong food. Upon calling the store to find out what happened, I was told that the driver mixed up my order and delivered the wrong food. Even though this was not Hawthornes fault the Manager Adam was beyond understanding and happy to fix the issue. He politely told me that they correctly made my food and the disconnect was with DoorDash but he'd be happy to help me nonetheless. He made a bad experience worth it and I will certainly be returning to this location

Betsy M.

Yelp
So this review is for delivery (Door Dash) so perhaps had I eaten in the restaurant my experience would have been more positive? I ordered the garlic knots, salad, margherita pizza and the creme brulee cheesecake. All in, 50 bucks worth of food (incl. tip/delivery charge) The garlic knots were hard and soaking in garlic and oil, after attempting to eat one of them I gave up. The salad was good (can't really screw up a salad too bad) with fresh ingredients so that was a real plus. I had the ranch, which they tout as homemade and it was really good. The pizza was cold, the crust very hard so that was another pass after a couple of bites. The concept of how they make their Margherita pizza though looked wonderful. The creme brulee cheesecake was okay. I think for me, the price point for what I got and likely the delivery made this an okay experience. The delivery gal literally took forever to get there, made me go outside to find her on a corner and handed me bags of food that were side ways.

Abby A.

Yelp
I'm so thankful that Hawthorne's has been able to storm both the trolley expansion AND the pandemic! I've been a customer here for 10+ years and it's incredible to see how the business has adjusted to the new environment. You can now place your orders online, as well as by calling in, and they have a nifty little to-go entrance where you can walk in and pick up your food. The restaurant is clean, the staff is friendly, and the food is delicious!

Mike S.

Yelp
Terrible pizza. The "pizza" cooks are the biggest jokes ever can't make a solid slice or pie. Slow as all hell. This is clearly the worst location. Crust is the width my hand looks like a delivery driver threw it out the car while it was moving and this was a pick up order.

Esteban V.

Yelp
Hawthorne's pizza is a very cool spot and great for the family. We have patronized this restaurant before and liked it so much we make it a regular stop. We first started with the crispy fired calamari with a spicy marinara (diavolo) sauce. The calamari was amazing and love ordering it here. Next we had a small luau pizza that had that had bacon, pulled pork, caramelized onions and pineapple. The combination of the toppings really made the pizza pop with flavour. We also got a chicken parmesan Stromboli also to share and that was really on point as well. Our server was very nice and took good care of use. I recommend this place to anyone who wants really tasty pizza!

MB J.

Yelp
Love how convenient this place is! You can easily do take out/pick up orders. If you want to dine in you can but they also have spacious patio seating. The food is very good and exactly what you want when you crave comfort Italian food. They have a lot of variety for everyone. I love this place!! Service is also awesome.
