Hay Elotes Review - East Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"You can get all kinds of snacks and desserts at Hay Elotes, from fruit cups and chamoy apples to, well, elotes. Of course, there’s also a full selection of ice creams and sorbets. But our favorite dessert just might be the Mango Hill—a seemingly bottomless cup of mango sorbet studded with fresh strawberries and topped with strawberry syrup and chile limón powder. It’s refreshing enough to make you forget that you just sweat through your second shirt of the day. And if you’re in the mood for something a little more savory, they have a birria food truck in the parking lot with birria tacos, quesadillas, tortas, and even ." - Nicolai McCrary

Wanted a little sweet treat and stumbled upon this little business that offers Hispanic deserts. Also noticed they have a small store in there but it’s probably only open in the day time. Both the banana split and apple con chamoy were huge and delicious. Don’t expect fast service, but they make up for it in their low prices.

No prices on the sign, so we end buying a $35 Horrible tacos with Bad Cilantro, Horrible food

The family and I were craving tacos. We decided to finally try Hay Elotes and I'm so glad we did. It was exactly what I wanted. We ordered 2 of the family taco packs- one with pollo and the other with asada. My husband tried their burrito and strawberry smoothie, both were also good. The portion size for the price was worth it. We'll definitely be back.

Google
Definitely at the top of my list when it comes to banana splits 🤤❤️ I’ve also had the watermelon Fresca AMAZING the mangonada and smoothie all very very good ! 10/10 recommend

This is an iconic staple of Mexican culture in bastrop, I originally tried the Austin location but had to check out the bastrop location. I’m excited to know their quality and service is still amazing. It’s affordable, quick service and yummy!!!

Google
The pizza birria totally hit the spot! It was enough for two & packed full of meat & cheese. The consommé was rich & flavorful. Great service. Can't wait to return to try the other birria concoctions & the rest of the fun menu items!!

Google
The worst thing about the place was the elote. The place was clean and the ladies were nice - they let us try samples of the ice cream and told us they make it in house! We got the copa de fruta, mangonada, chicharrón, elote cup, and strawberry and blue coconut raspa. The fruit cup and lime ice cream were my favorite!

Yelp
We always love to buy our mangonada at this place. We love the service and tje people are very nice too. We got so excited when we saw that tjeh finally have tacos and so we decided tonlrder the birria pizza and chicken burrito. But the tacos really disappoint us. The birria pizza is too salty and more saltier when you dip it to the consomé in short we did not finished it and qaste it and the price is expensive too. For the burrito the chicken is too dry and salty as well needs some sauce or something to make it taste good. If I can separate the taco review and the mangonadas i can say 5 for mangonadas and 1 for tacos.

Yelp
The staff there a very rude to anyone who goes there. Whenever you ask questions or etc. I refrain from going there for this reason. Just not the place to go, taqueria 95 is better staff and food wise. Los empleados de este tienda le hablan en una manera muy fea. y también hacen unas caras feas cuando uno le hace una pregunta. le sale mejor la taqueria 95.

Yelp
Flavor explosion! The staff goes above and beyond with generously stuffed orders. I've been coming here for the past 3 years and always happy to see families inside enjoying a wide variety of snacks. It's the best of all baseball field snack bars kicked up a notch or 5. Much variety and a friendly service.

Yelp
I've been here several times and each time the food is so good. There are so many healthy options to choose from and it's very cheap for great fruit! They have a snack bowl called "Sour Hot Cheetos" and omg. It's hot Cheetos, with pickles, chamoy and other spices and omggggggg it's delicious. The place looks like you are in a greenhouse because of the beautiful plants everywhere. There is always so many families in here when we come and it looks like a huge hangout spot for a quick yummy snack or dessert.

Yelp
Generous portions, fast service, variety, and tons of patience. It takes a minute to decide what you want. Had a conchinada there diff between all the others white corn, the flavor is different My mnago hill is an elevated mangonada. I'm passing by but wish i had one in my town.

Yelp
I've visited the East 7th location for years before hay elotes came to Bastrop. I love the corn in a cup. It's actual fresh corn and not canned/frozen/sweet. Reasonably priced as well. The aguas frescas are also great. Great place to get a snack with great flavor

Yelp
Rude employees here, walked in at 8:53pm and there were a couple other people inside ordering and one employee shouted across the store in Spanish, we're closed. I said, sign on the door says 9:00pm and she turned and walked towards the other employee and told her not to serve me! Guess they are doing so much business that they can refuse a customer guess we don't need to for business here.

Yelp
One rude employee always gave a face and looked at it nasty, plus the food wasn't that good

Joanna S.

Yelp
We come here quite often because we like the fruit cups and the corn. Service is crap! The women get annoyed when you order more than one item. Never have I seen them smile unless it's with each other. Thank goodness another place like this opened in Bastrop because after today they have permanently lost our business. Para las mujeres que trabajan esta locación nada les cuesta sonreír y ablar le a la gente bien. No ay razón para la amargura.

Yelp
We love their strawberries with cream, elotes, and water based ice cream! they have a lot of different options for snacks, highly recommend!

Yelp
Really yummy I love this the most out of everything I've tried just because my preference is spicy rather than sweet, but the mangonada is soo good too! Also they have cheap prices for a large quantity of food. I recommend! Realmente delicioso. Me encanta esto, lo mejor de todo lo que he probado solo porque mi preferencia es picante en lugar de dulce, pero la mangonada también es muy buena. También tienen precios baratos para una gran cantidad de comida. ¡Yo recomiendo!

Yelp
Worse place to get a corn in a cup. I was craving one with "cheeto dust" I've tried before elsewhere well I asked for it here and got half a cup of Cheeto crumbs half corn, nothing else. First and last time waist of money.

Yelp
Food is as$ . Don't know how they can mess up a mangoanda . And their hot Cheetos and cheese more like hot Cheetos and $hit . All I gotta say if you like a dirty building and subpar Mexican treats than look no further than hay elotes , bastrop tx .

Adriana B.

Yelp
Every time I have visited this specific location, no matter what time of day, the ladies here are always sooooo rude. Rushing us to order, aggressive with their responses, careless when we ask for something and they don't have it (always out of crema for biónicos or fresas con crema), I go back because it's so close to our home and my family especially my little girl always has cravings for these things. But today my family went without me and my husband came home upset at how they were treated. I just don't understand why there isn't one person there that is welcoming and enjoys servicing people. Just disappointed. We're not confrontational and don't give any pushback, we just want our treats.

Adilene J.

Yelp
I've worked in customer service before and I honestly don't know how "Hay Elotes" staff gets away with the way they talk to customers. I have had a lot of different occasions where my husbands order and mine weren't what we ordered, and we wouldn't complaint because we didn't want to be that customer, today I tried to call in an order here just because "Taqueria 95" was closed and so the lady that was taking my order was being very rude and kept asking if I was actually going to make it to pick it up, just because they have had orders left behind. I will never be ordering from this place ever again, if you want Mexican snacks go to taqueria 95. If I could give ZERO stars I would.
