First of all shout out to the wonderful staff who bought dinner for the homeless!!so,they get five stars for helping out..The fries was the best I had the homemade thousand island made the fries perfect I could just ordered a side of that. the burgers are amazing wonderful season to perfection fresh lettuce, and tomato. Fresh cut fries.

Most delicious satisfying burgers. Meal complete with great fries & spicy ketchup, and of course a nice cold beer. Husband and I have been here several times and food is always excellent. Enjoy!

Made a trip from L.A. to eat here this weekend after a positive recommendation on YouTube. "Hayes" is the real deal, the double cheeseburger and the loaded fries were outstanding. Definitely worth the trip. I will gladly make this a regular occurrence every time I'm in San Diego.

After hearing about Hayes Burger from multiple sources and seeing it on social media, it was on my list of places to try out for a while. Finally got a chance to try it with some friends! - PARKING - Street parking only it seems like, but plenty of spaces up and down the street! - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - The business itself is not very large, with only one table for 4 inside and some bar seating against the wall. There are a few seats outside, but not too many. Seems like most people take their food to-go. - FOOD - Hamburger: I usually order hamburgers so decided to go with the plain order for our first try. I definitely think it could've used more sauce, as I found myself wanting to dip the burger in their Spicy Ketchup (which was honestly the star of the show here). Decent flavor, but also found myself feeling peckish after. French Fries: Really tasty fresh cut fries. I love it when fries have the potato skin on them because you know they're fresher. Again, loved the Spicy Ketchup with these. - OVERALL - Personally it's not a top burger spot for me, but I can see why it's a neighborhood gem and beloved spot.

Reading the other reviews--gosh--y'all should just call it how it is! This place tastes like In-N-Out burger, but WAY BETTER! I have been telling my partner that I've actually been pretty disappointed with that chain restaurant's quality lately. I kind of doubt that it's the nostalgia that made this burger taste better than it actually was...things like toastiness of the bun and flavor are just lacking across their locations. Anyway, let's move on to the star of the show that is Hayes Burger!! So to start off, we were greeted by the cashier, who was extremely welcoming. He asked us if it was our first time here, which can be very important! He gave us the full run down...their menu is pretty simple in that there are burgers that are done in the usual ways including cheeseburger, hamburger, and double cheeseburger (or however much you want to make of that). Then you can add toppings on like chopped chiles, whole chiles, etc. Then you have your normal fries, or fries with toppings on there. Very equivalent menu overall to the chain restaurant mentioned above. Something to note is that they have the regular ketchup and spicy ketchup. Believe the cashier mentioned that if you order to-go then the spicy ketchup will be a bit extra cost, but if you dine in, it's free. Then they have a case of drinks which includes local bottled sodas with real cane sugar and stuff. Lastly, the cashier asked us if we wanted to cut our burger (which is an important detail because he could anticipate without us asking!), which we ended up doing. I almost wished I got a whole burger for myself, but based on us wanting to do a full food tour down here, we had to exercise some strong self control! Our order came out quickly and the burger was so delicious! The noticeable thing about this burger is that the patty is seasoned and salted perfectly. The bun is toasted on the grill (we definitely lifted up the bun to look underneath). Tomatoes and lettuce were fresh. There were grilled onions and chopped chiles. The fries are cut a bit thicker in comparison. Salted well, has a mix of soggy and crispy fries. We also ended up getting the local pomegranate soda (unique, but I thought it would be a bit more tart). Ambiance of the shop...kind of reminded me of a surf/beach type restaurant. They have an upstairs but it's not open for customers. There is limited seating indoors, as well as outdoors. There is street parking. It was interesting that people parked in the middle of the street in the center lane to run in and grab their orders. Overall, after leaving, I was already craving their burgers again. I would highly recommend Hayes Burger!

So came here for the first time I had heard about it and wanted to give it a shot very good burger I mean it was delicious very very much like in and out burger but in a way juicier and meteor but very comparable a little more expensive than in and out for the burger and fries it was $20 so a little pricey but a very good burger service was great would I go back absolutely if you're in the area definitely give it a try if you're in the mood for a burger you will not be disappointed

A good burger spot a couple steps away from Chicano park. I thought I was going to be blown away by this burger but it isn't anything out of the ordinary. The service was quick and the worker was very nice. There's only street parking as well as 1 table inside and a couple tables outside. This spot is basically in n out but smashed burger style lol just without the wait time and cheap prices. I ordered the double cheeseburger with raw onions and the spicy jimi fries. I'm usually not a huge fan of smash burgers because they tend to be too greasy for my liking but this burger wasn't so I was content, as for the spicy fries they were not spicy so if you're sensitive to spice you should be good. I even ordered the food to go instead of eating outside since the table inside was taken and it was pretty windy that day so I wasn't gonna sit outside; and to my surprise the bun was not soggy and the fries retained their crispiness thru my 8 minute drive. I would definitely come back if I was in the area but only if I was craving smashed patties. In all honesty I don't mind waiting for in n out burger.

Definitely a neighborhood spot. Simple menu. Genuine food. Off the beaten path. Nice break from the places around the convention center. Over sauced and over priced. Made a stop on the driving home from a meeting in San Diego. This was probably the best meal I had on this trip. Another new favorite and they aren't too far from me!! Yes, you'll hear the burgers resemble a popular chain, but that's where it ends. These burgers are seasoned well and cooked perfectly. The bun is a good size, soft, yet holds up to the job! The ingredients were fresh. Oh! And do not forget the fries. Hands down the best fries from a burger place. No lie! Try with the spicy ketchup, but I barely dipped as these babies were perfect as is!! If trying to avoid gluten get your burger lettuce wrapped. Can't wait to go back! (They carry swell soda too!!!)

Finally made it to the original! It was pretty hot outside so we just got food to go. I like the interior of this one better because it seems much more organic and down to earth. He: Double cheeseburger, yes? Dang, how did he know? I also had to have the Jimi fries. Burgers were so dang tasty! The workers were all pretty chill which is great! Simple menu so no reason to peruse. Just order a double cheeseburger! There's some small tables out in front, but lots of people today. There's also some great artwork in the lot next door. Definitely worth coming to! Cako Approves! (Even though we didn't eat there)

Was recommended to try this place & ordered it for delivery - wow! This was a well made burger & had great fries too. Since it was delivered, I was unsure how well it would hold up, but it actually did very nicely! I added on the "spicy ketchup" but it just tasted like regular ketchup to me... not sure if that was an accident or if it was too mild to notice My burger was a double cheeseburger + pickles + chopped chilis. The patty is thicker than In-N-Out, so it was a thick burger overall. I wanted to try the bun, since it was my 1st time (verdict: delicious), but I would be happy with protein style.

After hearing a lot of positive feedback about Hayes, we finally got to try it. It's located in Barrio Logan which at night, the surrounding area is actually pretty dark. Inside, their on-brand decor and cleanliness are both on point. What we got: Double cheeseburger - decent size, fresh-looking vegetables. The patties are pretty thick but are also smashed. Goes really well with their spicy ketchup! Jimi fries - delicious thick cut fries. The caramelized onions are delicious as well as that sauce. Safe to say Hayes is a lot similar to the popular burger chain but has a more homey / non fastfood quality. We loved it but we weren't mindblown. Also a little steep as everything was $22.

Came here on Sunday around 1:20pm. Street parking right next to the bridge highway. One bathroom inside. Service was friendly! Got the hamburger it was good amount of meat and everything tasted fresh. The fries were good in saltiness and had a crisp. They had regular ketchup and a spicy ketchup but to me it wasn't spicy. Seating right next to to wall with some art work. On a pricier side but taste was worth it. And if you looking to support smaller businesses this is a good spot to hit up!

Chale, these burgers are . For reals, these hamburguesas are smashed to perfection & the fries are fried just right. So good, I went back for a second burger . They have spicy ketchup that slaps and grilled guero chiles that add that extra putazo to your bite. Service was cool. The guy was nice & checked in on us & cleared our table of our plates (always nice). Ambiance was mid.5~ 5 stars is mainly based on food. Limited seating on little tables, but the burger made up for the ambiance. I mean, you could take your burgers to the park...? Sometimes you can catch some Aztec dancers and peep some Chicano art under the bridge.

Ok my nieces were visiting from Hemet ca they love anything Chicano ??? Well I took them to Barrió Logan and we are told for the best burger go to Hayes burgers ! It's across from Chicano Park. No huge menu just tasty burgers like mom used to make . Hand formed and shaped very simple with lettuce and tomato grilled onions put a slice of queso (cheese) for you gringos and bam The young manat the counter was very pleasant and helpful. The vibe was rustic but hay it's all the burger !!

Hayes Burger offers a solid burger experience. I tried the double with fries, and while the burger is reminiscent of In-N-Out, it's a tastier version with superior fries. The addition of spicy ketchup adds a nice kick. The limited seating space might be a downside, but it's manageable. Overall, a good spot for a satisfying burger fix.

Dude, I went to this burger place in San Diego that was supposed to be the best, but it was just okay. The burger was fine, but nothing to write home about. The prices were fair, but the seating was limited and the place was kinda dirty. If you're a neat freak, you might not like it. As for my favorite burger spots, I'd have to say: 1. Rocky's Crown Pub 2. Hodad's 3. Churchill's in San Marcos

As a self appointed burger aficionado I put this burger in the top 5 of burgers in San Diego. Located in Logan Heights right across the street from Chicano Park, the decor and artwork is awesome and keeps along with the street art theme. The service is good and a little slow but in the best way, they are in that sweet spot where you're not waiting too long but know that the food is just being cooked and coming out fresh. I ordered the double cheeseburger and it was great, you can see the perfect crust they've developed on the patties and the buns are perfection! Tip: GET THE JIMI FRIES!!! Fries perfectly crisp, onions perfectly caramelized, and that SAUCE is special.

Excuse me !? Hands down the best burger I have ever had ! I'm just starting to eat meat again so I didn't want to get my own burger. But I sure had more than a few bites of my husbands , good thing he got a double! I also tried the agua fresca cucumber lime and it was perfect, so refreshing! It's a pretty cool place with stickers and art all around. Street parking is your only option. Service was great. Menu is simple. I can't wait to go back !

The team that owns this place and works here are standup, genuine people and I appreciate the absolute hell out of having been able to smash a bunch of food and brew here over the last year. Hayes has one of the best burgers in San Diego, that's just a fact. The simplicity, the quality, and the consistency is all I'm looking for in a good burger shop. Gourmet burgers that run $20+ have a time and place, but for me that's not very often. When I just want a really good burger that won't break the bank, this is where I go. The burger is always PERFECTLY cooked. Absolutely mouthwatering. Thick cut tomato, grilled onions, and a house-made 1000 Island sauce...!!!! Both the burger and fries you can just tell how fresh each of the ingredients are. The service here is always super great. I love that their menu is small with just a few options. It helps them get food out quickly, and helps eliminate distractions on the menu of things I wouldn't get if I came to a burger spot. The atmosphere is very trendy and artistic. Very cool. 5/5

Hidden gem that's always shining I saw a video of a gentleman on how Hayes is one of his go-to spots in San Diego. I never heard of it and was intrigued to try it out. Especially if it's down the road from Barrio Dog which I am a fan of. I always look up burger spots and Hayes never came up, I'm glad that i went here because this is a hidden gem (to me) that I'm glad I uncovered Parking: I was able to find parking on the road fairly easily, this was on a Friday afternoon. Service: I enjoyed the aesthetic of the restaurant as I was greeted. I informed the server what I wanted, she then spoke to the kitchen and informed me it would be about ten minutes. I responded to her that it wouldn't an issue and I proceeded to step outside. She was professional which I always enjoy. Food: The menu is small which I feel is a good thing. Similar to how In-n-Out menu is to where it's not overwhelming to some people. I ordered the cheeseburger, fries, and a hand crafted soda which is local to the area. I was given a metal number an my food was then given to me. The first bite of my burger was delicious and so were the fries. The bun was toasted perfectly and so was the burger patty also. I chose the pineapple soda which was a great combo to go with the meal also. Everything was delicious about this meal and honestly I wouldn't change anything about it. Ambiance: There was seating outside in front and to the side of the restaurant since there doesn't seem to be any inside which isn't that big of a deal to me. Where I was seated I saw the artwork and murals that is a great sight to see. You do hear the cars from the highway, but it wasn't a deal breaker to me whenever it came to noise. With it being in the Barrio Logan area, you might get a treat and see some classic cars which I was able to see. Wasn't able to get a photo unfortunately. Overall: The service, food, and area was nice. It's a hidden gem that I was unaware of but I'm glad that I went! I'll be checking this place out again in the near by future. 5/5

10 out 10 100% recommended. This place is so good! The burgers are out of this world and the fries are the best there are. Ernesto was attentive and even brought out water for our dog. The outdoor seating is enough for the 3 of us to enjoy our meal. We will most definitely be coming back here! In n Out who!??

If you like a simple burger, made to perfection, this is the place for you. Burger, fries, and excellent service. Everything came out perfect and we devoured it all! The vibe was super cool, workers knowledgeable and friendly. 10/10 would come back next time we come to town.

My partner and I decided to try Hayes Burger after seeing it listed as one of San Diego's best cheeseburgers. Our previous favorite was the Dirty Flat Top Burger from The Friendly, and they're honestly pretty similar, but Hayes is somehow even better. My partner is picky, so the ability to modify the burger is huge! She likes Meat-Cheese-Bun burgers, & Hayes was happy to accommodate. Mine was served as advertised and was delicious! The bun is extra delicious, the grilled onions have just the right amount of crunch, and the patties were cooked perfectly. Don't forget to order fries, and order more fries than you think you'll need. Only non-positive is that the cashier was so busy we had to repeat our order 5 or 6 times before he got it right.

Hayes Burger is a solid choice for a classic smash burger and fries. The quality is high, and the taste is very similar to In-N-Out - just better. Everything tasted fresh and I really enjoyed it That being said, I'm not sure I'd choose Hayes over In-N-Out if I had the option. But, let's be real, sometimes In-N-Out is pain to get into with those long ass lines. That's where Hayes Burger shines - it's a reliable alternative that takes care of that craving! If you're in the area and craving a no-frills burger, Hayes is a great choice. Easier to get to then in and out and a better burger. It's a familiar flavor profile done well!

Pretty good double cheeseburger, and I do recommend a double because the patties are on the thinner side. Though, I would have liked for the fries to be thinner. It was obvious that everything was cooked to order. The location is adjacent to Chicano Park and might be worth a visit if you're in the neighborhood. However, it stung a bit to pay over $20 for burger, fries, and drink.

It hearts me to give this establishment a 4 star. The only reason for a 4 star is because if I was comparing their burger with In and Out, I would say they are slightly better. Now keep in mind In and Out are not my favorite burgers. They are number one for fast food and cheap burgers. But thousand island, iceberg lettuce and American cheese are not high standards for me when it comes to burger. For that reason I was not wowed by Hayes burger because there is no originality and nothing new that many other burger joints offer. If thousand island, iceberg lettuce and American cheese is your gig, then go for it. You will love these burgers.

Everything is good, the food is delicious, double burger and jimmy fries is my go to! Have a great style and a kickback feel. Awesome service with staff that love people! Only reason Im keeping this short is to gatekeep.

We had the double cheeseburgers and the spicy Jimi fries. It was a decent burger. We got everything on it that it came with, the onions were a little overwhelming for me but if you love onions then you might be okay with it. Not sure if you have to ask for it well done beforehand but one of my patties had a lot of pink in the center. The other was cooked perfectly. I ended up just pulling out the pink center. My spouse's was cooked throughly. Fries were tasty but I kind of wished the cheese had been layered since fries were dry at the bottom and the cheese isn't runny enough to reach the bottom. It was an okay meal. Love the neighborhood, the live mural painting across the street and the family bbq going on out back. That for me is what a family owned business should look like. I probably won't be back just cause prices were a little steep for what I got but I can see how other people may love it. * make sure your card has the tap feature... they don't take cash and trying to put my card number in automatically didn't work either. * kinda didn't want to put meal on a credit card but I had to.

Wow, this place is legit good, totally deserves all the recognition! I love how simple the menu is, i ordered a cheese burger with the chopped chilis and hubby got the double. The fries were amazing. Totally cooked perfectly and you could tell they are house made. The spicy ketchup was sooo good! This place is what you want a "burger" to be. Everything in it, all the ratios were perfection. I love the layout of this joint, the tables outside are nice to sit on and the ordering is super easy. Totally worth the price and will definitely be back soon.

Stopped by Hayes Burger last night and loved it. Hayes is a small business that deserves more attention in my opinion. A helpful young man helped us right as we walked in. They have a simple menu of cheeseburgers or grilled cheese and fries. The burgers are absolutely delicious and, as the menu says, smashed to perfection. Fries are crispy and delicious and you can have them with regular or spicy ketchup. Hayes has a few stools and countertop inside and several tables available outside to eat at. Parking is strictly on the street and can be somewhat difficult at times. I highly recommend trying them and am looking forward to going back soon.

Love the vibes and ambience here. They really know how to decorate. Friendly service and of course the burgers were really good too, not overly oily like some joints can be.

Burgers are really good and fries are okay. They have their own spicy ketchup and regular ketchup. Not many tables outside to dine. Inside they have a long bar table but it's so small inside. And more than likely the tables outside will be taken.

I stick by my claim that this is my favorite burger in SD. They're just delicious. It's a smashed burger, and they're still super juicy and fantastic. Keeping it simple, they have burgers and fries only! You can Jimi the fries w cheese and onions and get a chili guero. That's it, and that's all they need to have the best burger in town.
