In town on business, but now it's the weekend and it's time to let my hair down! I Invited 110 of my close friends to come out tonight, but only 25 showed up. Lol. That's what I was expecting. We got here around 8:00pm and took over a table in the bar area. Then as other people who weren't a part of the party left, we just took over more and more tables. Eventually we had control of the whole bar area. I think it was cool that this was allowed to happen with minimal obstruction.
Appearance/Atmosphere: Nestled on the corner of Washington and 4th lies this place. HUGE logo written on the side of the building so you can't miss it. If you're familiar with the old Arena Bar & Grill, this stands in its place. Beautiful maize and blue coloring on the outside to represent the mighty University of Michigan! Inside you walk right into the bar area. The bar rail is off to the left with a few tables spread out off to the right with more space toward the back complete with a section for darts! Before reaching that area there's a doorway to the right which takes you to the dining room, which we didn't go into. The place was so alive. Granted, it was mostly my friends in the bar area, so of course we get it hype! Lol.
Service: Excellent. Naturally, I've forgotten the name of our server, but he took care of us. White dude with a long beard and wore a hat. He was LEGIT. Like I said, there were like, 25 of us, but he was running back & forth making sure we were all taken care of. Thank you you mysterious bearded gentleman.
Food: I should've eaten more because of how much I was drinking, but my girlfriend ordered for me to make sure I ate. Lol. Then boom, the jackfruit taco known as "You Don't Know Jack" and some crispy brussels sprouts land on the table in front of me. Of course I was skeptical about how good jackfruit was going to taste, especially when it was supposed to be disguised as pulled pork, but boy was I wrong. It tasted EXACTLY like BBQ pulled pork and I was blown away. I would legit give up pork (minus bacon) if I could master this jackfruit phenomenon. Lol. Oh, the brussels sprouts were good as well, crispy, hot and not so brussels sprout-y. I would like to come back here sometime to try a real menu item though, when I'm a lot more sober.
Value: It's Ann Arbor, so you know prices are a bit elevated. I think I was averaging $10.00-12.00 for each Long Island I had then maybe $7.00-8.00 per beer. So the tab can get big pretty quickly. Lol. My taco was $9.00 with an additional $3.00 to add the brussesls sprouts. Not too shabby, but I really needed more than just that one taco to feel some sort of hunger satisfaction.
Thank you Haymaker for allowing all of my friends to come and hang out with me. It was a pleasure coming to your establishment and I'll be sure to return!
