Clunky and slow service line, it was lunchtime. Ordered the pulled pork sandwich, pinto beans, and drink after a long wait in the cafeteria style line. The pulled pork was overdone, dry, with hard bits of meat, and not very flavorful. The only thing that saved it was the sauce. They have two kinds on the table and they were not labeled. I asked a customer about them. I was told one was Buffalo sauce and the other regular BBQ sauce, which is what I used to save the sandwich. Even with jalapeno and onion on it the sandwich was barely edible to me. The bun seemed as though it was in a warming drawer for too long. It was crumbly and fell apart. I also had their pinto beans. Now they were great! Perfectly cooked and seasoned, nice clear broth, and it had pieces of brisket in it. Plus sweet tea. Maybe the brisket is better. But based on my trip I don't think I'll be returning.

Great food!! We ordered our food to go at the main register. Where we were able to watch our food get sliced and weighed. The service was great. They had a super friendly staff. The brisket was tender and well smoked, turkey was moist, chicken was falling off the bone, sausage links were a good size, and the pork ribs were tender. Everything we ordered had a nice amount of smoke along with good taste and texture. The Mac & Cheese was super tasty, and so was the strawberry short cake and chocolate pudding. My only drawback was with the chicken. Even though it was falling off the bone and tender, I felt it lacked a little flavor and had too much cracked pepper. Otherwise, the chicken, along with all the other food, was delicious. If you're ever in Kyle, I recommend Hays County BBQ.

I had a $25 gift card to Hays Co. BBQ so why not? I’m hard to please on BBQ restaurants because we can do it pretty good at home. I have to say it was good all around and compared to some places the pork ribs here are damn good and I love a good pork chop. Honestly if it was dipped in butter it would have been killer! I would definitely come back for more if I am in San Marcos or I don’t feel like cooking or not able to. Highly recommend you give these guys and gals a shot if around San Marcos, TX.

Definitely worth a try, and im going back for the rest of the menu. Went on a weekeday for diner and plenty of tables to sit at. Cashier was helpful about the items. We liked the coleslaw because it wasn't a sour/vinegar overwhelming taste like others, this was a light but still flavorful slaw. Pork ribs fell off the bone and tender enough for my wife to eat when she has braces. Brisket was good as always. The sauces on the table has a small spicy kick but still good. Overall its a spot i'd go back to. Pound of Brisket, pork ribs, sausage link, mac and cheese, coleslaw, potato salad, green beans and 2 drink was about $80.

Stopped in this Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ Joint and was very pleased with everything! Do yourself a favor and get the pork chop. One of the best things I've eaten in awhile! Juicy, tender, seasoned all the way to the bone! I couldn't stop eating it! I also got some ribs which were peppery with a sweet and savory pull off the bone tender bite to them. Also pictured is a well made jalapeno cheddar sausage ring that actually brought a little spice to the party unlike some I've had at other establishments in the past. It paired well with the bbq sauce wrapped in a slice of white bread. As a side we opted for the twice baked potato casserole that was creamy and delicious! Great place, nice and clean, efficient counter service with plenty of tables inside and even more seating outside and a huge parking lot out front! If you're traveling through San Marcos stop here for some succulent Q! And don't sleep on that chop! It might just be the tastiest bite you've had in awhile!

This was one of the best & TASTIEST BBQ joints that I have EVER eaten at, although it's probably also one of the most EXPENSIVE ones, and they don't even offer a Military Discount like many of the places here in San Antonio do. That's a real shame, bcuz without people like my fellow Veterans and I, they likely would not even have the freedom to operate their restaurant. Plus, if they were to add one and the word got out about it, they would pretty much be guaranteed to get hundreds, or even thousands more Veteran customers which would definitely offset the money they might lose on the discount. I could definitely taste how they have won all of those awards that are up on the walls when you're waiting to order your food.

Outstanding pulled pork and brisket. We also enjoyed the potato salad and mac n cheese. We found the coleslaw was a bit too plain and the sausage skin was pretty tough. They do seem to nickel and dime you a bit (.29 for whole jalapeños plus no pickled ones) and are heavy on the cutting so if that bugs you watch for it. Definitely recommended and would return.

Good food, brisket was ok, just wish it had the bark on it. I have had better brisket at other places. Pros- overall good selection of Bar B Que. Cons- very expensive compared to other places I have been at, just for myself was $55, with a meat combo plate, with drink and desert.
