The 10 Best Hot Dogs in Dallas | Eater Dallas

"Served up in a brioche bun with fried onions and chili on top, this hot dog is about two meals worth of dog. It’s also something different from the rest of the pack, thanks to that buttery, toasty bun subbing in for the usual white bread hot dog bun." - Courtney E. Smith

The Best Takeout Restaurants and Food in Dallas - Eater Dallas

"Again, burgers are tough to do well as takeout and so we direct attention to yet another lowkey great takeout item from this spot: the hot dogs. They’re massive and come smothered in chili as an option. There are also loads of sandwiches and salads on the menu that travel great." - Courtney E. Smith

Haystack Burgers Is Growing: Three New Locations Are On the Way | Eater Dallas

"Situated at 6465 E. Mockingbird Lane in Hillside Village, this location—scheduled to open in late 2019—was selected and leased with assistance from CBRE and will feature the brand’s burger-and-beer concept with signature toppings like jalapeno-bacon cream gravy and chipotle mayonnaise." - Adele Chapin

Google
WARNING: The bbq sauce contains bacon. They need to disclose that on the menu. My friend doesn't eat pork and was a bit upset when he found out. The burgers here are thick and good. The El Tren burger is great with Haystack Onions. If you get the Half/Half keep in mind they are the Haystack Onions and not onion rings.

Google
The fried chicken tenders salad is an excellent choice. The ranch dressing tastes like the “ranch” I remember from my childhood. The Haystack onions are crispy and thin. If they didn’t come on the salad, I’d get them as a side. There is plenty of seating indoors and outside. We sat at the bar. The chairs were a bit heavy and the seat itself felt narrow. The service is friendly and prompt. We miss the location on Turtle Creek. Haystack is so good we make the drive over to Lakewood.

Boss lady and I ordered to-go. I ordered the goat cheese and fig burger... fabulous! (I don't use that word often) The meat was cooked medium, and the toppings made an amazing bight each time. She had the regular burger with bacon, really good! The 50/50 fries onion ring combo would have tasted better eaten in-house. The joint is like a fish bowl with two walls with windows everywhere. You would think they'd keep the place cleaner.

Google
A friend told me about Haystack Burgers and Barley. This place is really great. Burgers are always fresh and full of flavor as well as juicy as a burger can be. Ingredients are always fresh and crispy. The doping sauces are just amazing. A little bit spicy but just enough kick to make your taste buds go crazy. The fries. The fried pickles are amazing, crunchy, and well seasoned. You can have them with the dipping sauces or just plain they're so good. Staff is great, very helpful & friendly. Had a little trouble ordering but the cashier was amazing he reccomend a couple burgers. Which we did ended up getting! He did not disappoint with the recommendations. Had about 7-9 different kinds or beers all which were small batch and small business breweries around the metroplex. Great place to get your burger with the family. Definitely recommend this place.

Came here for Sunday lunch with a friend and we thoroughly enjoyed the food! The restaurant is located within a shopping center with plenty of parking. There’s a small bar situated in the center of the restaurant so we seated ourselves there. We both ordered mimosas and they were delicious! Later on, I ordered the Haymaker but it was a tad bit sweet for my taste. We started out with the chips and guacamole which came with salsa. This was your standard dip and nothing too fancy about it. For burgers, I ordered the Down on the Farm add mushrooms and my friend ordered the Double Bourbon Bacon Jam burger. We added a side of fries which was enough to share. The burgers were huge and delicious! It’s definitely enough for leftovers but no shame if you finish it all. I will definitely come back to this location to try out their other food items and drinks.

Google
Wow!!! If you are looking for a juicy fresh burger, this is the spot. Got the haystack burger and I am not disappointed. Fried pickles are not too salty like most places and the drink was generous. The place is a laid back uptown spot with outside patio space and they got sports on tv. The cashier was friendly and the food deliver guys were as well. I definitely will be coming back. ☺️ this burger exceeded my expectations.

Sharon K.

Google
Super accommodating!!! I wanted to work with a dog in a public place but obviously wasn’t going to go in to order food so I called them and placed my order and then I proceeded to the patio with the dog and they brought my food and water out in short order. I wanted something quick so got the club sandwich without the bread and it was fresh the bacon was perfectly cooked with some crunch but not over done. And my dog was amazing while I ate.

Google
I really wanted to like Haystack more than I did. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot going for it. The bar is loaded with options, the tap list is strong, and the signature burgers are good. However, there are some obvious things that need to be addressed. My burger shouldn't bleed everywhere and pour out grease. I didn't order beef stew. The fries are good, but I don't need two potatoes worth of fries in a single basket. They should reduce the portion which would likely spare a lot of waste and save them money. If you're with a friend or more then one basket is probably fine. So it's a good spot to eat, but I know it could be better.

Yelp
Bleh. It wasn't outstanding like I had heard. I expected more from the food. Service was okay. Nice but they never checked on us. Ambiance was incredibly serene and cozy. Overall bleh,

Yelp
A friend recommended this place so I had to try it out. I love the vibe and it's in a great location. They offer several burger and sandwich options, but I ordered the Haystack Burger and added a fried egg white with a side of fries. Our food came out impressively fast during a somewhat busy night so kudos to the kitchen staff! I wanted to love everything about my burger, but something was throwing it off. I was getting a salty/tangy taste that I didn't enjoy and I think the bbq sauce was the culprit. Since bbq sauce was already smothered on the burger, it was hard to escape the taste. For the bites that I managed to scrape the bbq sauce off of, I could taste the potential. The fries were pretty good though. Next time, I'll have to hold the bbq sauce so I can get the full Haystack experience.

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoyed the burger and fries here. You get large portions here, and you can even split if you're moderately hungry. My mom and grandma split a burger, an order of fried pickles, and an order of fries. As for me, I devoured a whole turkey burger in my first visit, and I'm glad that I did. The meat was tender, and the bun was perfectly smashed down so you don't get a mouthful of bread in each bite. I'd visit this post again.

Yelp
Very good burger joint! On the pricey side if you add on to the burger, but worth it. I had the Farm Burger (regular cheese burger) and added avocado and bacon. The burger was cooked perfect with plenty of flavor. Side of fries were nothing special. You order at the counter and they deliver to your table. Busy place for a Sunday lunch, but they did turn the food out fairly fast for a cook-to-order place. It had a bistro style feeling inside. A little noisy, as expected. A ton of tables, window bar seating, and a standard bar in the middle. They had plenty of adult drinks on the menu as well with what looked like a somewhat extensive draft beer selection. Their salads also looked really good. Might have to try those next time. Parking is in a strip mall. So depending on how busy the other stores are will determine your parking difficulty. At least it is a large lot and not just street parking.

Yelp
Super expensive for an average burger! While I appreciate the packaging of packing separately the condiments, the burger, mustard and Mayo soaked through the bun and it was all soggy! Also - the amount of onions was pathetic. See pic. Got a whole bag full of fries...too many really. And they're very salty. Service was great.
google avatar

Yelp
First time and it will not be our last. Best burger and fries. Fries are to die for. We couldn't stop eating them, hand cut. The back cheese burger was perfectly cooked. They have provolone.
google avatar

Kolton L.

Yelp
Eh, it's a nice place. Quick service but outside of that the burgers aren't that tasty. They seemingly have unique ideas about them, but when played out it just isn't there. My guest also got 2 burgers and they had the same conclusion. It just seems to be poor execution of a good idea. The burgers were also very very well done which made the burgers tough. The fry's (we got 5 baskets total lol) were very similar. If I was to compare them, they are somewhere between Burger King quality and five guys. Not something I was amazed with. For over 12 dollars a burger there are soooo many better places. This was again, a good thought but poor execution.

Yelp
Delicious gourmet burgers for a good price! Haystack ranges from your classic burger to more innovative gourmet flavors. I got the Barn Burger and split fries with my boyfriend. Burger was huge. I was so full after, but it was yummy! Burgers were served pretty quickly. Staff is friendly. Restaurant was clean. Ample parking lot. Win win! Come here for a good burger!
google avatar

Yelp
Tried this based friend's recommendations. I was pleasantly surprised. The food was fresh and tasty. They have an extensive menu for a burger joint. The cashier wasn't the best to interact with, but that shouldn't deter you from trying this place .

Yelp
pulllll upppp best food and service beer is great the vibes are great too good tv placement

Yelp
LOVE Haystack!! I live that they have a veggie burger! They are always so good! We are inside and the place was clean. Our food came out super fast which was great because the kids were hungry. I didn't know how my nephews would respond to the kids cheeseburgers since they don't eat cheeseburgers often but the older one said it's the best he's ever had and the younger, pickier one ate more than expected. They wanted to go back the next day like I did my first time! Needless to say we'll be back!

Dawn H.

Yelp
The food and burgers were good. The ambiance was horrible. It's loud inside. It was raining and so there was no choice. The lack of ambiance leads to parents at one table leaving their rowdy baseball team at another set of tables. If you do not want to sit with the kids, I don't want to either. Service was ok but clearly not working for tips.

Yelp
Was craving a hamburger and after a 30 minute Yelp search I decided on this location. After reviewing the menu I ordered the haystack burger with a side of fries. The food came out quickly and was still steaming. The burger was very flavorful and satisfied my burger craving. The fries were tasty as well. This is a great dining establishment and I look forward to trying more menu options!

Yelp
Every time we come here it's always amazing. Everything from the apps to the treats after dinner are perfect. Customer service is always superb and friendly. The setting in the restaurant is nice and cozy with lots of natural light as well.

Yelp
No pictures of our food this time but I'm loving the new Haystack's location in Lakewood! Haystack burgers are top 3 in Dallas in my opinion. Everything is delicious! Don't get me started on the mozzarella sticks. Crispy perfection! This time I ordered the avocado ranch burger, with applewood smoked bacon, provolone cheese, over medium well. I could only finish half it was so big! Dangerous that they've opened a location closer to us. :)

Yelp
2nd time's the charm! Great food and service! This was my second time here after the first being a multiple level disaster of an experience that was significant enough to me where I had no desire to come back for months. My first trip was a few days after the opening so perhaps worth forgetting that trip. A Yelp friend, Stephen W, wrote a great review and that convinced me to give it another try. There is plenty of parking in this strip mall shopping center. It is easy to find and has a fantastic patio with a wonderful view of the parking lot and setting sun! Indoors is cozy with a modern feel, lots of TV screens and a small bar. The bar has some wonderful local beers including my favorite, Lakewood Brewery's Temptress! Plus, this place is 1/2 mile from my house! Ordering can be done on line or at the order counter. I ordered from the office to pick up on the way home. The order was very well packed taking into account hot stuff, cold stuff and ensuring vents open for items that would get soggy or wilt. They have many interesting burgers to include a couple of vegetarian options! There are some great salads and some fun items for kids! There might some specials for seniors, but I refuse to be old enough to consider that possibility. I ordered the Down on the Farm burger, chocolate milkshake, cup of chili and an order of their thin onion rings that obviously were not good for me so I was absolutely thrilled with my choices! OH, I also ordered a side salad to appease my medical support team with something they might approve. The food was fantastic! The bun was tasty and the patty was perfectly cooked as ordered. It was well caramelized and was moist but not greasy. The high quality toppings were full of flavor! Crispy lettuce and gorgeous tomato slices. The onion rings were decadent! Right amount of spice and absolutely amazingly habit forming! The shake was creamy and smooth. The salad had a great tasty mix of greens and large enough to be quite healthy. The chili was greasy and would make the perfect chili pie as corn chips would suck up that grease. By the way they have chili pie on the menu. I'm certain it must be fantastic! Service was friendly, focused on customers and driven to exceed customer expectations. Prices were quite reasonable for a gourmet buger restaurant. I'll be back many more times!

James M.

Yelp
Don't order online from Uber they cancell your order 30 minutes in . Not sure how the food is and will never know!!
google avatar

Lea N.

Yelp
They undercooked my burger . They claim they cook their burgers medium. When I got home from picking it up, both hamburgers were cooked extremely rare. I was really disappointed, and called to let them know that both my burgers were bloody. All I got in return was I'll let the cook know. I as hoping I would at least get a discount on my next visit after I spent over $10 on each burger. They didn't seem to care to keep my business. Their customer service is terrible.

Lisa R.

Yelp
We went there on a Saturday night, and they were not terribly busy. When we sat at our table, I noticed the surface was sticky. As we ate our dinner, I observed two different workers clearing tables, and they never wiped any of them down, not a single time. They just cleared off the dirty dishes and walked away. I'm pretty sure that's a health code violation. We will not be back.
google avatar

Stephen W.

Yelp
Wow, this place has excellent burgers! It's right up there with Hopdoddy and Stackhouse, maybe even better because it's closer and has ample parking. Lots of outside seating when the weather is nice. The restaurant is clean and modern. They have cloth napkins! And non-styrofoam plates. Metal knives and forks. Like an upscale restaurant, but it's burgers. About the burgers: excellent. Big, juicy, messy, stuff running down your arm good. My haystack was excellent and so filling. Very tasty. I would get that again in a heartbeat. The wife's Avocado burger was similarly big and tasty. The avocado was fresh and not spoiled. Impressive. The onion strings are excellent. The fries are crispy. Both were excellent. And they have beers! Not a huge selection but decent enough to find something to go with your burger. This place is a real find. It shoots to the top of my go-to burger joints.
google avatar

Amigo K.

Yelp
Very slow Tuesday 2:30 PM, 4 customers. I wanted to return here for the portobello mushroom burger! But, this time I switched to the meatless Portabello Sandwich, basically same as the hamburger without the beef patty. Did not work too well. This time the mushrooms were sliced much thinner, the inner ingredients: pickles, tomato were sliding around, got messy. Maybe switch to an artisan bread roll? Zucchini slices, instead of pickles? The Picnic Salad looked great! Then I sampled one of the "spiced pecans" and it was way too spicy, supposedly with black pepper, etc, etc. I grew up eating hot jalapeños, serranos, but this was different spicy. After removing the pecans, I put on the balsamic dressing, and it was a good salad. The dried cherries and shredded cheese were great flavors in this salad. Some red chili spicy croutons would do well in this. ***If you order this Picnic Salad, get the pecans on the side to begin with! Maybe it's me, and not you? I dunno, the 1st time was so good here, I should have known...

Yelp
The burgers are delicious. The staff is nice and accommodating. Place is clean and inviting.

Yelp
Really, good burgers. We enjoy our monthly cheese sticks and a great environments.

Shawn T.

Yelp
Great burgers salads and fries Drinks are good too. Good service and Convenient parking

S L.

Yelp
Haystack is known as a burger place, and rightly so -- their burgers are really good. But try their Cubby's (I think that's what it's called) chicken sandwich. For a long time, I thought Snuffer's had the best chicken sandwich in town ... and I was wrong. This one is fantastic.

The Burger Snob X.

Yelp
Oh Neptune. Got the haystack with an extra party for $4, solid 16oz of cow. They were able to answer the questions on the menu super quick. They have a cute outside area but I honestly came for the burger. I'll let the pics describe the quality. Will be back for sure. Fry's are a 10/10.
google avatar

Senhora K.

Yelp
I thought this would have been a great craft burger experience but I left disappointed. The meat was overcooked and the flavors of the escabeche burger didn't meld well enough for me to want to finish the sandwich.

Marty H.

Yelp
Service: No sign as to where to order. Many tables not cleaned off. After finding counter to place order I'm merely greeted with "Do you want to order?" I guess pleasantries are in short supply. Once our food was delivered we asked for catsup & silverware, and were curtly told "you need to go get it at the counter". (leaves me wondering why we left that generous tip upon paying?) The staff definitely needs training in customer service. Food: A good number of choices, but once received was (meh) burger with lots of salt. After eating I had to wonder why I spent $40 for 2 burgers, 1 fries and 2 beers. Drink: Decent selection but after ordering we realized the standard beers were in 12 oz glasses--not pints. For $5 each that's pricey. In a nutshell: Poor service, dirty tables, salty food, unfriendly staff, overpriced food and drink.

Magan K.

Yelp
Really beautiful location in Lakewood. Very clean. Service was prompt and friendly. I recommend this place to people who like their food...unseasoned. The meat, which I'm sure is very fresh and responsibly sourced, does not appear to be enhanced with seasoning. This is a flavor by ingredient kind of place. They get 4 stars for really being a neat place and because I know plenty of people who prefer light seasoning or no seasoning at all. But for me, this burger was bland, and the patty was too thick. Really nice place for the right person though!

Eileen B.

Yelp
The food was great. I had the "Down on the Farm" burger and the haystack onions. My cousin had the Avocado Ranch burger and haystack onions. We were both quite satisfied.

Mary C.

Yelp
This was the worst food I've had in a while. My burger was burnt and dry. The French fries were burned. My husband's club sandwich was on toast which was cold & burned. The children's chicken fingers had a bone in it, which could have ended very differently had her mother not found it. This too was burned. I would totally avoid the place on Mockingbird.

Humming V.

Yelp
The service is fast, which is nice. The staff member I had was kind. I got the queso and chips, but when it came I had a nice surprise of receiving the salsa as well! Both were great, but the chips seemed a little stale. They were well salted and flavorful even without the queso or salsa. The burger I ordered was flavorful. I was able to get a taste of each element they put on it. The fries were seasoned well, but a bit crispy. The ketchup had a strange taste to it. The environment was friendly, well lit, and clean. It is expensive and isn't the best I've ever had, but I would be willing to try them again.
google avatar

Doug C.

Yelp
OooRah! They are open for dining in during hot summer months. Yea. 1st visit to this location as we have eaten at their Richardson and Frisco locations. We were in the neighborhood for another errand so we stopped by for weekday lunch. Well worth it. Great big burger, see photo. Next time one burger for the two of us would be just fine.
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
Third time here in the year of COVID, and another excellent experience dining on the deck and enjoying the cool spring weather, with fresh medium rare burgers (spicy escabeche) and so so haystack onions, which were barely lukewarm and not so crispy, like they were done at least five minutes before the burgers.

Felina H.

Yelp
I gave it a three star because when you dine there , you'd realize why the place is filthy and not well managed. It's sad because we love Haystack and was sad when the one closer to us on Oak Lawn shut because the burgers are five star. This one is badly managed or not managed at all. There's a bunch of staff, quite a few teenagers. No one cleans tables. They have enough staff to keep the place nice and spotless for customers but you find the staff grouping and chatting in the kitchen ( these aren't the kitchen staff I am talking about) and staff on the cellphones. The guy behind the bar, maybe the bartender or manager because he has a different colored shirt on ( grey instead of black) was on his cell the entire time we dined in. No one is out cleaning tables or checking things out in the restaurant. Tables outdoors aren't cleaned, staff just socializing and on their phones. I hope they don't shut down also. It's a turn off when you go to a badly managed place with staff who don't careless about their customers' experiences.

Bryan V.

Yelp
BEWARE Ordered a ToGo order Ordered Salad, DID NOT RECEIVE ANY SILVERWARE Ordered Fries, THEY DID NOT GIVE US KETCHUP Ordered a kids Grilled Cheese, IT CAME WITH ONLY ONE SLICE OF CHEESE Called and David answered the phone and said they caint do anything about it. Talk about grade A customer service there. Will never ever order from this place again.
google avatar

Justin L.

Yelp
We absolutely love this place. The negative reviews are from people who like to complain. Here's a positive one: The burgers are amazing. The onion rings are amazing. The fries are amazing. We have never been disappointed with our experience here. 10/10 highly recommend!
google avatar

Tom O.

Yelp
An employee was asked to clean off the table for a family. Employee said he would! Then the employee went to clean off other table. After talking to him, he would not apologize or anything! Employers need to train there employees. It reflects on the business in so many ways! We have been going to this Haystack seen it opened. We love the food. But some employees can derail a small business with poor customer service. It's not that hard to give great service.
google avatar

Kylie K.

Yelp
Great portions and wonderful service! Came here with a group of friends and we all will be back. One of the best burgers I've ever had!
google avatar

Carlos P.

Yelp
Love this location! Great pop in for a burger and beer or with the family. I've been a few times. Can't go wrong with anything.

Paul D.

Yelp
Quality has sadly declined. On last visit, double burger was over-cooked and fell apart after one bite, chicken in chicken sandwich was tough and inedible, empty black tea dispenser and looked like excessive number of employees were paying more attention to conversing with each other than attending to business. Looks like more effective management is needed.
google avatar

Tammara A.

Yelp
Maybe don't have Reuben on the menu if you don't know how to make a Reuben. Long drive for not-Reuben for my husband. Rye isn't hard to find. Don't wing it. Only complaint but that was the point of going there.
google avatar

Troy P.

Yelp
The fries are fluffy on the inside and crispy outside and seasoned properly. The menu does say Kennebec potatoes, but I don't think they were. The texture was closer to that of chipperbec potatoes. Which i do prefer. Their burgers are quite top notch when it comes to flavor. Perfectly seasoned and with just the right toppings. Only downside is that the meat was over cooked, and the queso on the Barn Burner was too thick. The kitchen was clean as well as the customer area.
google avatar

Bl C.

Yelp
We just happen to drive by this place because the majority of the other restaurants in our area are not open for a late lunch, yet. I was highly impressed with the fresh cut french fries and their seasoning as well as the onion strings with spicy ranch dressing. The spicy ranch dressing is legit! We had the cubby's chicken sandwich and avacado ranch burger, both were fresh and made to order. Everything has a fresh taste and the fries are cut in house. Cute, clean dining room with separate bar and available patio with AstroTurf. Kitchy!

Yelp
Went to the Mockingbird location today and it was my first time actually ordering in the restaurant and not online (2 times before) and ordering something other than their chicken sandwich. Short version: FOH ran by teenagers who need some customer service training. Bartender does not actively watch the bar for customers in need of a drink. Food was subpar, greasy, undercooked. Probably should ask how your customer likes their burger cooked especially for to go orders. They make homemade sweet potato chips but not fries, but sell regular fries. Why not mix the two and sell sweet potato fries (Saw the box full of sweet potatoes so clearly they are actually making the chips)? Will it sustain? Long version: Not super familiar with what they have to offer burger-wise so I quickly located their basic cheeseburger and sweet potato fries that I thought I saw on the menu (more on this to come). Not once did the teenage cashier correct me on them not serving sweet potato fries nor did she ask how I want my burger cooked. I enjoy a medium burger, but since I wasn't asked and I have never had their burger I assumed they were a thinner patty not requiring them to ask (check out the photos of what I got). After ordering and paying, I decided to grab a beer while I wait for my to go order. Literally standing at the first chair next to the bar entrance the bartender did not even acknowledge me for the 5+ minutes I stood there with my wallet at the ready to whip out my card to pay. Thinking she may be busy I gave her the benefit of the doubt, but after waiting on others she clearly must have just overlooked me as a customer just waiting at the bar. However just observing her while she wasn't serving me, not once did checked in on any other customers at the bar including another customer waiting like myself across the bar clearly wanting to purchase a drink. After not being helped at the bar I gave up and sat at a table to continue waiting. A few minutes later my food came out and on top was a bag of homemade chips. Asking the teenage/early 20's runner about my sweet potato fries, he quickly let me know they don't serve sweet potato fries but instead sweet potato chips. Clearly I misread the menu but while they swapped the chips out for regular fries I noticed a box of sweet potatoes. Clearly they have the product to make chips but actively decide against making fries I guess sweet potato fries just don't make the cut (pun intended). Got home to enjoy my food, open up the container to find my burger sitting in a pool of grease (so appealing and appetizing). It was so soggy from the grease I had to wipe my hands off after each bite. Speaking of the bite, I bit in and discovered a rare/medium rare patty. At this point after each bite from my burger I felt it was my duty to report my underwhelming experience. Now I can say my previous experiences have been better with the chicken sandwiches, but with all the other establishments in this area going in (Palmers Hot Chicken and Hudson House) or those who already have a good fan base (Dream Cafe, Taco Joint, The Original Chop Shop) I would be surprised if they can sustain.

Ordered a burger and fries to go. The burger did not include the onion, tomatoes, mustard, and so on. The fries seemed like they were the leftovers from lunch.
