I've purchased many pieces from HD Buttercup - a large over sized couch, a wood dining table, a three seat couch, and a sofa bed. While help in the store is non-existent and things are overpriced, the pieces are beautiful and the quality is good. Delivery has always worked out without a hitch (within the quoted window) but at $179 to drive a piece of furniture across town and drop it off, I would expect no less (they do group multiple pieces into one flat delivery rate but alas, I ordered one piece at a time).
Where they drop a star is in how the customer service handled my most recent complaint with them. I ordered a sofabed that was advertised as sleeping 2 and didn't have dimensions listed on the website. It did not sleep 2, as it is the size of a twin size bed, but it is beautiful so I decided to keep it. One snag though - upon delivery the box was damaged and one of the arms was damaged in the corresponding spot. For a couch that retails for $2600 before tax and delivery, this was not acceptable. The delivery workers documented the incident, taking photos and telling me to contact HD Buttercup where they could arrange a discount or a swap. We had tried calling them while the delivery workers were still here but no one answered, so I agreed to accept the couch and keep trying to contact them.
I decided to email them since they weren't answering the phone, and got an immediate response from Barbara V who said that she would check the inventory and arrange for a swap. Awesome. Except that Barbara ghosted me. I followed up 8-10 times over the next few months, and nothing. Finally my bf tried calling and got ahold of Cynthia Soleto, who put him on hold for a long time and he eventually hung up. Cynthia was great and emailed me to follow up on the call and offer me a 15% discount since the couch was out of stock. I asked if a refund was possible instead and she came back a week later with an offer for 50% off. I once again asked for a refund, which was approved about a week later, but I had to pay the $179 each way delivery charge. So I'm out close to $400 on a couch that arrived damage and that took me months to return due to lack of response from customer service in the meantime. Not thrilled about any of this, but glad that they did take offer me a discount and that they did it back at all (despite charging me for delivery both ways). If they had waived the delivery at least one of the ways this would be a 4 star review and if both ways a 5 star review, but alas, here we sit with a 3 star.
