Man. Today just wasn't our day, and I literally hate it when I strike out on a place. But the series of events was a bit much.
Arriving around 5:30 on a Tuesday, the hubs and I decided to have dinner and a stroll through the Railway Heights Market, and set our sights on Heads & Tails. I was all prepared to try the fried catfish tacos, rolled up to order, and found the lights on and nobody home. We waited a few minutes, still no one. We tried pretty hard to support this local business-- double checked the hours of operation, called (no answer), and asked the neighboring business if they were open. They told us yes, "he's here" and to "look for a big, bald guy in a red shirt somewhere around here." (say what?!) But ok, maybe they're on a quick break with no help. Times are hard. We paused a bit longer and proceeded to move on.
Low and behold, about 6 stores down we spot the big guy in the red H & T shirt socializing and then stopping by to pay visits to employees at every business, but not visiting his own. We strolled on, settled on dinner at Mac & Twist (it was great), and then sat down to eat at the bar and had drinks at Puncheon.
Guess who was also sitting and buying drinks across the bar? You guessed it... the big guy in the red H&T shirt.
Was there a gas leak? System down or randomly closed for the day? Did he take the day off and decide to wear his uniform to the market to hang out, wander around, and drink for the hour and a half that we were there? I have no clue. There was no signage to say so and certainly no service.
I've never seen this in real time and at this level. I was speechless.
I wanted to check out Heads & Tails and have fried fish tacos today, neither happened. Instead, I had a tasty dinner elsewhere, and quite the underwhelming show.
Le sigh.
