"A new spot for fried catfish, saucy seafood boils, and more Cajun dishes is headed to the soon-to-open Railway Heights food hall just north of Memorial Park. Heads & Tails Seafood, the first restaurant from entrepreneur Roy Burks, is scheduled to open in August at the long-awaited food hall, a project from the same group behind Downtown’s Bravery Chef Hall. While Railway Heights has been under construction, Burks has been honing his craft by hosting crawfish boils and other pop-ups at Houston-area bars." - Brittanie Shey

Quick review: I had the shrimp Po boy and hush puppies. The food tasted great. Worth going to for the hush puppies alone! Full Review: the restaurant is tucked in a corner of the building second floor. It has amazing locations with various seating options from swings in the yard out front to indoor and patio tables around the venue. So location currently is a bit of a pain to get to die to construction. Recommend for now getting there by going up Washington avenue. Staff were friendly and helpful. They will take your number and text you once the food is ready so you can walk around as well. Pricing is a bit higher than average but the food flavor is worth it. 10-20 range with Po boys around 14-16. Why 4/5 Stars? - pricing is a bit higher than average which is most likely due to the venue location. While my Po boy was really tasty the number of shrimp in it was 6 total for an 8-9 inch Po boy. While the shrimp were great the low number caused the ingredients to mute the shrimps spotlight. However they still earn 4 stars as all the dressings on the sandwich were very fresh and the hush puppies are as perfect as you can make. Plus the staff was fun and professional.

Why are you closed? I would like to taste your GUMBO! Update: I was honored the free Gumbo, although the employee seemed a little peeved about it, but it was worth the drive back down here. It's some of the best YaYa I've tried in the city. Thank you for the Gumbo, it is likely I'll come back for another bowl!

Great food, nice portions. Don’t think they were ready for a busy lunch crown this Sunday as they ran out of side dishes and had a hard time keeping up with the orders.

We enjoyed the delicious fried catfish and shrimp! The coleslaw was amazing as well. Will definitely be back!

Google
HILARIOUS. This is seafood that you can literally purchase from the frozen food isle at Walmart. What you are looking at is one of their crawfish from the Seafood Etouffee - its literally the size of a dime. If you care anything about your money, dont waste it here.

Great service. Fast and friendly. Perfectly seasoned fish and shrimp. And I can't forget the seasoned fries. Because I ordered boudain balls on Good Friday, I took them to-go. They are great. And I say this as I'm eating them for breakfast as I type this. Spice level is just right.

I waited 50 minutes at the railway heights location to get the fried shrimp tacos. I’m unsure how it takes that long to get fried shrimp out of the kitchen. Staff would barely acknowledge the long wait time and lied to customers after me with a wait time of 15/20 minutes. Absolutely unacceptable. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Take you money somewhere else.

Best Cajun food! You gotta try the gumbo, dirty rice and the fried catfish! Hubs said the shrimp was the best he’s ever had! I feel like I’m back in NOLA.

Yelp
Man. Today just wasn't our day, and I literally hate it when I strike out on a place. But the series of events was a bit much. Arriving around 5:30 on a Tuesday, the hubs and I decided to have dinner and a stroll through the Railway Heights Market, and set our sights on Heads & Tails. I was all prepared to try the fried catfish tacos, rolled up to order, and found the lights on and nobody home. We waited a few minutes, still no one. We tried pretty hard to support this local business-- double checked the hours of operation, called (no answer), and asked the neighboring business if they were open. They told us yes, "he's here" and to "look for a big, bald guy in a red shirt somewhere around here." (say what?!) But ok, maybe they're on a quick break with no help. Times are hard. We paused a bit longer and proceeded to move on. Low and behold, about 6 stores down we spot the big guy in the red H & T shirt socializing and then stopping by to pay visits to employees at every business, but not visiting his own. We strolled on, settled on dinner at Mac & Twist (it was great), and then sat down to eat at the bar and had drinks at Puncheon. Guess who was also sitting and buying drinks across the bar? You guessed it... the big guy in the red H&T shirt. Was there a gas leak? System down or randomly closed for the day? Did he take the day off and decide to wear his uniform to the market to hang out, wander around, and drink for the hour and a half that we were there? I have no clue. There was no signage to say so and certainly no service. I've never seen this in real time and at this level. I was speechless. I wanted to check out Heads & Tails and have fried fish tacos today, neither happened. Instead, I had a tasty dinner elsewhere, and quite the underwhelming show. Le sigh.

Yelp
The seafood is super fresh and flavors are ON POINT! I ordered: Seafood platter: comes with fried catfish, shrimp, hush puppies, fries, and cole slaw. This is one of the best fried seafood plates I have had in a long time. You can actually taste the freshness of the cat fish and not just the crispy batter. Boudin balls: I usually do not like boudin but man these were big and tasty (pun intended) Mardi Gras pasta: I am a sucka for creamy pasta and this hit the spot! Huge shrimps.

Yelp
WOW is an understatement. We had the seafood étouffée smothered fries, and dear lord was it good. Made to perfection, steaming hot, super flavorful and no skimpin on the portion size. A hearty meal for a fair price of $10. Service was friendly and helpful too. Would definitely recommend this great seafood restaurant.

Yelp
I had dinner here about a week ago while visiting the food hall that the Heads & Tails food stall is located in. My choice was for the fried catfish dinner that came with fries and slaw for $14. It took about 10 minutes for the food to be ready. It consisted of one medium-large sized fried catfish fillet on top of the fries and the cole slaw was in a different container all put in a cardboard box. All in all the meal was good tasting with both the fish and fries being hot. The fries were the standard out of a bag frozen type. The slaw was ok too. I give a 3 overall for the meal being acceptable however I thought that either more fish should have been given or the price reduced. In other words the meal was overpriced for what I received. Another thing I noticed was their dressed shrimp po boy that you can get either fried or grilled costs $16 and that's just for the sandwich! Fries are another $5! That's getting pretty expensive for a food stall to charge. This restaurant is closed Mon and Tue. If I return to this food hall, I probably would eat with another vendor.

Yelp
We got the shrimp seafood basket and it was good-perfectly seasoned and wasn't overly salty. They changed their menu recently but wished they still had the pasta or nola bbq shrimp on their menu. Good place to try for a cajun fix.

Yelp
Flavor explosion is the perfect summary of Heads & Tails! We visited their Railway Heights location and it did not disappoint! Seafood Platter - fresh gulf seafood with the perfect crispy cornmeal batter. The star of the platter for me was the fried oysters! Firm with the perfectly seasoned breading was a home run. Their house made tarter sauce was an amazing accompaniment to the fried seafood medley. Gumbo - smokey with the perfect flavored roux. Huge chunks of chicken and sausage. One of the best gumbos I've ever had! Definitely get this dish! NOLA BBQ Shrimp - the perfect combination of smokey, spicy, and a hint of sweetness. So good! The shrimp were large, fresh, and so flavorful! Dipping the bread in the sauce was unbelievable! I should have know by the line wrapped around, that this is the place to be! You won't leave with an empty stomach.

Yelp
Oh em gee!!!! You want some bomb Cajun food?! Then I suggest you go ahead and visit Head & Tails! The food was pure amazing. Their food is not short on flavor, that's for sure. I was definitely iffy on trying the lobster n waffles but I think that might have been my favorite dish I tried. The crispy crunch paired with the fluffy waffle made my taste buds and tummy so happy! The waffle is bursting with so much flavor and the lobster was fried to perfection! Boudin balls were cooked perfect with the right amount of flavor and little kick of spice on the backend. If you want to go easy and not end up in a food coma, I'd say the boudin balls would be a great option. Now y'all! That NOLA BBQ shrimp though!!! It's a complete hit! The spice and the sweet note from the bbq sauce is a perfect combo. But then add that French bread in the mix...oh now we talking! I have no choice but to assume Heads & Tails entire menu is nothing but complete fire! This is a must try spot! Your won't regret it. Yelp
This is based off the one item I tried on their menu: seafood gumbo. I would have liked to try the chicken and sausage gumbo but they ran out. I'm a nola girl living in htown and have been looking for some good gumbo here, and this one really satisfied my craving! Probably one of the best gumbos I've had overall. The roux wasn't too light or too dark. It had a good viscosity and just the right amount of spice! The shrimp were also huge! Only thing missing was okra, but I know not everyone likes that in their gumbo and sometimes they gotta cater to the masses. I gotta come back and try the rest of their menu!

Amy T.

Yelp
What a delightful surprise! Stopped by for the seafood platter and was overwhelmed by the deliciously flavored seafood in every bite. Not to mention... a place with fresh seafood AND cheese grits (that are to-die-for) !? Move over, Pappadeaux! Can't wait to return and try the rest of the menu. I've got my eye on the gumbo

Yelp
This place is awesome! Best fried shrimp po boy I've ever had! Fresh bread and seafood. Gumbo is delicious too. Come see them!

Yelp
This spot is located right by the entrance upstairs. We ordered their gumbo and a side of dirty rice. I'm a huge fan of dirty rice but was a bit disappointed with the flavors here. It was still good but it reminded me more of eating ground beef and rice. Their gumbo was also good but was expecting a bit more spice or flavor. Luckily they are stocked with hot sauce by the bar for your tasting! I would come back and try their boudin balls and seafood. Their shrimp looked so big and yummy. Staff is very welcoming and I would love to give this place another try!

Yelp
Omg indescribably yummy! You have to try it yourself. So flavorful and definitely reminds me of Louisiana. Smoky and sweet taste of the fresh shrimp!

Yelp
First time at this newly opened location. I ordered BBQ shrimp and boudin balls. The boudin balls were good. Just the right size for an appetizer. Let me say, the BBQ SHRIMP were soooo good. The French bread was an added bonus to dip the juice. The BBQ shrimp was seasoned perfectly. I cannot express how much I enjoyed them. I have not had BBQ shrimp that good in years!!! I will return and get more BBQ shrimp and try the other items

Yelp
Found this place in the Railway Heights Food Market and definitely stumbled across a treasure. I had a bowl of chicken and sausage gumbo that was incredible. It was seasoned to perfection and had huge chunks of chicken and tons of sausage. I ordered it as an appetizer but definitely could have made it my meal without issue. For my meal I ordered fried catfish tacos. It came with 3 tacos each with a huge catfish filet, hand chopped onions and tomatoes, and some dressing and picketed veggies that were out of this world. I was finished eating before I realized I forgot to take a picture. This was easily the best food hall find I've made to date. I gave 5 stars because 6 wasn't an option...

Yelp
Had the blackened shrimp, blackened catfish, and sausage: ALL 3 were DELICIOUS! The gentleman running the spot was friendly and my food came out in a timely manner!

Chardunae J.

Yelp
Best food ever!! The catfish was excellent! I can't wait to try the gumbo on my next visit!

Yelp
First time there and the food was amazing. They were out of a few things but they substituted to make it happen. I was very satisfied with their service. Definitely a must try.
