Hear Again Records

Happen to be in Gainesville, FL and wanted some new sounds for my sound holes. Hear Again Records is what I found and I was not disappointed. What a great little vinyl store. Seemed to cater to new pressings, but there was plenty of used records for my old heart to pick through at a reasonable price. Located in a cool little district filled with bars and restaurants. You should definitely have a couple drinks to lower you inhibitions, then go to Hear Again Records to make some questionable monetary decisions.

One of my favorite record stores ever. Whenever I’m in Gainesville I love coming here. The record selection is broad and the owner knows his stuff and is super helpful. When there isn’t a specific record in stock, he makes note of it and orders it. Located in a nice little district near some good restaurants. New Records vary from 20-45 dollars. Some are used and cheaper. Love this place and highly recommend.

Great place to be. Will definitely be back again. Was able to pick up an imagine dragons vinyl as well as when I was checking out they had a slipmat with their logo on it, which worked well for me because the one I got off of Amazon was curling up on the edges which was very annoying. They had a flip turn album in there that I might have to go back for too.

Nice record store. Very clean and organized. Great selection of new and used records (especially with punk and metal). Great location, as it is in walking distance to restaurants and music venues. If you're in the area make sure you stop in.

Great store and amazing owner, asked if they had a certain vinyl in and was offered to have it shipped to the store immediately with a follow up call when it came in. Store has excellent customer service and a great selection and will forever be a cornerstone of Gainesville's rich culture.

Okay selection but the cashier was unwelcoming. Carried on a conversation with their friend our entire transaction and pretty much ignored us when trying to ask about stock and waiting to check out. Not a great experience and overall disappointing. Will shop elsewhere

Walking into Hear Again feels like walking back in time, where you can be in a room full of college students who are so enthralled by the music selection that they barely even pull out their phones. Hear Again has both new and used records, as well as a killer cassette selection that includes a lot of recently released music, which is hard to find. Everything is priced extremely reasonably. The person behind the counter is always super kind and personable, and willing to help out and give great suggestions. This is a great place for a music lover to be on a hot day (or any day).

Music lovers, rejoice! If you're looking for a place where great music is key, look no further! When I first started my record collection, I asked my music-loving co-worker where to go and he immediately recommended Hear Again! Located in downtown Gainesville only a few cobblestoned steps from the legendary Hippodrome Theater, Hear Again has a fantastic location in the heart of the city. You'll usually know when the shop is open based on the standing sign that is propped up during business hours! Upon entrance into the store, you're surrounded by some of the greatest tunes to ever be pressed on their various mediums with more genres that you could even count. Hear Again is so wonderfully organized and arranged, there never seems to be a a CD or vinyl out of alphabetical or genre order - talk about arrangement! The wonderful store owner also keeps a running list online of available vinyls, also available on their Instagram page which is updated weekly with new arrivals or sales. My favorite portion of the store? The used records! I've scored vinyls in prime condition for $5 or even less! One of my favorite details about Hear Again? Their COVID practices! Upon entry, you get your temp checked, hands sprayed with alcohol/sanitizer and you are then provided with gloves. I love it!! So if you're planning to show some love to your music collection soon, Hear Again has all the greats your record player could want!

While I haven't had the pleasure of visiting this store in person yet, I recently received an online order from them and the service was so wonderful I wanted to leave them a review! They had a record in stock that I couldn't find at any of my local stores in TX and it arrived in perfect condition - I have never received a vinyl record packaged so carefully before and I really appreciated it (extra layers of cardboard for protection, etc)! I will definitely keep an eye on their online store/discogs page in the future and hope to pay them a visit in person the next time I'm in Florida! I highly recommend this store!

Sadly my girlfriend and I just had the worst record store experience of our lives. It was crazy. Fine, you don't have almost ANY used records and focus only on the new, overpriced stuff. I get it... for the college kids. But did you have to be SO rude when I told you we were from out of town and could you tell us about the other record stores in the area? Your response as you shoved food in your mouth "Why would I want to tell you about a record store I don't work at?" Insecure much?

I've been shopping at Hear Again for the past several years. I'm an old rocker and tossed much of my vinyl twenty years ago. I began collecting vinyl semi-seriously four years ago after my wife bought me a turntable. About 98 percent of my vinyl purchases have been used. So when I visit a shop, I head straight for the used section. Hear Again always has a good selection. And the prices are never outrageous. I don't visit all that frequently since it is a good distance from my house. But, when I do stop by, I never fail to find something worthwhile. The owner, Andrew, is a heck of a nice guy, too.

Almost everything I look for in a record store.... Somehow on my trips to Gainesville I've missed this place in the passed. Shame on me! I had the pleasure of meeting and briefly speaking with the owner of Hear Again during my visit. The store has been in existence since 1994 but back then focused on CD's and cassettes. The current owner took over in '06 and has developed a top notch record store carrying a wide variety of LP's. The vinyl feature wall to you right has an impressive selection including everything from Townes Van Zant to The Stone Roses. Clearly there is impeccable taste used in stock selection no matter what genre of music you're into... On the left upon entering are tons of "new arrivals" and several boxes of 7" to browse through. The store is very well lit and the music being played is at just the right volume; enough to get into but not so overwhelming that you'd rather just leave. The records on the shelves are organized in proper alphabetical order and by genre. Really there were tons of records here that I wanted to search through but my wife had on way to tight of a schedule.... Pros: * Tons of new vinyl * Feel of modern record store * Well lit and easy to shop * Friendly staff Cons: * No free beer or pizza ;o) To surmise; Go To This Record Store! You'll not be disappointed, everything from Flying Burrito Brothers to Fallout Boy....

So many records! And they're being exceptionally covid-cautious which I definitely appreciate. You must be wearing a mask to enter, they limit capacity to 15ppl, and they sanitize your hands when you walk in. Great service and a great selection!

How can you not love this awesome record store?! The owner? Manager? the guy who's always there, is so nice and very informative. We went for Record Store Day and sadly I'm not rich enough to buy all the albums I want. But I was able to get Y Kant Tori Read, so was very happy. I kind of wish they had more older stuff, but it makes my heart smile to see new works being released on vinyl. So I highly enjoy re-releases of the classics.

My favorite record store! I also love how cautious they are being during the pandemic, even have you wear gloves. Protecting you and the records, I dig it.

Yes, Hear Again has moved, and it's not the format of used record store it once was: that is, not an endless mess of used CDs and LPs in a dark warren of a space. At the old store, I found everything from a used live Laura Nyro album to The Young Gods to Mercury Rev. The new location has much less space, and thus a trimmed down selection, but it's a good selection nonetheless. Moreover, they carry new LPs and a good selection of these, things like The Love Language, The Morning Benders, and Belle and Sebastain's newest album--in fact, they've got a huge Belle and Sebastian poster too which I declined to inquire if it was for sale or not, knowing if it was I'd surely buy a mammoth poster I don't really need. The guy behind the counter seemed very friendly and in our short conversation proved he knows his music, too. There are so many good bands out right now: once you remove yourself from the standards of radio and club play and start hearing things like Tame Impala, Deerhunter, and Destroyer you'll see what I mean. This is a store, a proper college town record store, where you can walk in and hear such things, learn about music from the staff and fellow customers, and in general interact in a way you never will be able to via iTunes with good music. The store could be larger, but it's a mighty fine start. Ever since we lost Schoolkids' Records (used to be where 101 Cantina is now back in the day) we lost the core of what a college town record store should be, and now we're creeping slowly back to that, which I really like.

Excellent selection of CDs, DVDs, and vinyls. They have a little bit of each genre although they did not have the exact vinyl I was looking for. A small space but they made fairly good use of it. Drop in and take a look!

This place was mind blowing. It felt like it was ripped from another generation. They have a huge selection of vinyls and some nice CDs as well. I even saw cassettes. My dad loved all of their posters and I came home with a handful of great items. The staff was amazing too. Not only was the gentleman who helped very kind and knowledgeable but he was also so fair. Some CDs had a price of $4.99 and the ones I chose said $7.99 which he said was the old price so brought all of the CDs down that I bought to the $4.99 price. He truly went above and beyond and I can't wait to go back even though I just left. It also one store down from Starbucks so go grab a coffee and enjoy some great and rare music!!!!

For anyone who remembers the Hear Again days of yore (late 90s thru mid-00's), this is not that store. Back then, Hear Again was a wonderful disaster -- mountains upon mountains of CDs, mostly complete rubbish, but the dedicated digger could find true treasure - like a shining needle hiding amongst the haystack of overpriced crap. Those instances became fewer and farther between as the years dragged on. Fast forward to the last few years - a longtime employee purchased the business from the original owner, got rid of all the ridiculous CDs, consolidated inventory, moved into a fresh downtown space, and turned his focus on stocking a fantastic and ever-growing vinyl collection. Gainesville seems to experience routine pockets of emptiness with a gaping need for a consistently reliable retail outlet for good music and a source for vinyl. Since the early-mid 90s trifecta heyday of Schoolkids, Hyde and Zeke, and Shaft, this town has been lacking. Until now. (No disrespect to No Future, Wayward Council, Hyde & Zeke or Sharpe's - those past and present outlets each serve their own niche purposes, but none really hit that special something that Hear Again has going for it). Also of note, the shop still stocks CDs, with a focus on music that is actually good and not just "everything and anything that is on a shiny 5-inch disc". They also stock a decent amount of quality DVD titles - again, paring down the overcrowded selection to only the essentials. The owner is friendly and knowledgable, both of which are important qualities for an authentic and comfortable record shop experience.

Wow, no reviews?? I took my first trip to Gainesville this weekend, all the way from Boston, and I was looking for some good record shops. Hear Again was the best one I found, but I don't know if there are others I missed? This place is packed to the brim with all sorts of media. They have CDs from many different genres, including an entire section of Florida music. They have good deals too. Since everything is used, they won't necessarily have just what you're looking for, but chances are good that they will have something that will make you happy. And the service is great - the dudes behind the counter helped me search for the things on my list and offered suggestions to boot. A lovely independent shop to support!

If you're a digger, theres no better place in Gainesville. You'll always be able to find something, whether its what you're looking for or not. Helpful staff, neat environment, and a good location all make this a good place to visit to almost any trip to Gainesville, and a stop I make often. My only gripe, which is a small one is that certain sections tend to get unorganized and ignored, leading to a bit of frustration when going through them. If thats all I have to complain about? Ill take it!

Hear Again is located near the Hippodrome downtown, nestled between Starbucks and Dragonfly. It is in a decent space for downtown and has decent hours. Props for being open on a Sunday. I wast the only person shopping when I came. I came for the new Dum Dum Girls album, which I guess is not out yet. But I found the older Dum Dum Girls album and Grizzly Bear. Price was about $20 for each. Not bad, and I like having the record in my hand before buying it. Shopping online is so impersonal nowadays. They had a bunch of other records I considered, but wanted to listen to albums online before buying. They also had some album promo posters being sold, so I got 2 different Arcade Fire ones for about $3 each. Cool to keep with the vinyls. Please go here if you like indie/alternative/jazz music and appreciate the quality of vinyl. Also, like their facebook page to get updates of what comes in every week.

I used to frequent this place more often when it was next to The Laboratory. With their move downtown, they occupy a much brighter and more inviting space, although less of that space for sure. Record stores have always been my second home - but with the change in how music is delivered these days, they seem less vital than before - note the demise of soooo many chains. (Tower, RIP). The local record store used to be where you found out about new bands and got your show tickets - now that information and purchase is all online... Their strongest point for me as a customer these days is the used DVD bins. Still, I'm glad they persevere, and I shall continue to be a customer.

Cool record place, nice to peruse the music they have and all the album artwork. I think they have moved/reorganized because contrary to some of the things I've heard/read, their records are organized pretty well (alphabetically). The whole store is pretty small, but it's set up in a way that is pretty inviting to guests and you don't feel like you are being watched / hovered over. If you do have a question though, the staff is very inviting and friendly.

It's so hard these days to go to a store for music. Good music. Not the stuff you hear on the radio, but quality music that's timeless. Okay, so some of the stuff you could buy on Amazon...but then you'd have to wait and pay shipping. I don't want to wait. I want to listen now. And in the Florida heat, who knows what condition it'll arrive in? I stumbled upon Hear Again when I was downtown running errands, and it's a jewel Gainesville is lucky to have. There is so much good music in various formats. I know when I'm looking for something new to listen to, I can go to this store. I never leave disappointed.

On perpetual tour from Los Angeles, and while seeking good coffee at Maudes, it was nice to stumble into this gem located smack in Bo Diddley Plaza Downtown Gainesville. Avoid stupidity and visit this place! Why r u still reading this? (see above address).

A terrific music store for old vinyl and new releases. I visit as many of these record stores I can when I travel. This store was neat as s pin and the records were clearly labeled used, New, by genre, new arrivals etc. they had a relatively small s cation of used rock Records but had some good stuff. I was able to find two old vinyl Records- one was 3 dollars and one was 4 dollars. Then I looked thru their new arrivals used bins of which there was 3. Found two more for 7 dollars each. the Records were cleaned and were in excellent shape the young man working the store was helpful. I stopped back in to this store a few months after my first visit and met Andrew the owner. Once again a great store and the owner is a terrific guy. Check this place out.

Hear Again has become a regular hangout for me recently, and it's easily my favorite record store in Florida. It used to be mainly used stuff (CDs, DVDs, and vinyl), but now the focus has shifted to new vinyl. The selection is always great - very carefully selected albums (both new and reissues) from all genres. The stock is constantly increasing and rotating, too, so it's fun to go in and see what's changing. Plus, the list of the week's incoming LPs is always posted on the store's facebook page at the beginning of the week. Andrew, the owner, is also great - a really friendly guy who is always happy to help you find what your looking for. Everything I want in a good record store is here - a great selection, a fiercely independent attitude, and friendly folks. These days I hardly go in less than 2 times a week. Check it out.

This is an AWESOME record store! I'd never been to Gainesville, FL before and was stoked to find that this college town has a great place for students who love music. One of the reviewers mentioned that this place is used only- that isn't the case! They've got an amazing selection of brand new vinyl! You may be able to find over priced vinyl at places like Urban Outfitters but it has gotten a little difficult to find it at most stores. Luckily Gainesville has Hear Again Music and Movies! The owner has great taste and the employees there are great! This is the kind of place you can go and find out about bands you might like based on the bands you already like. I hate going to a place that makes me feel self conscious about my musical tastes- that is never a problem when I am at Hear Again! Everyone in Hear Again is willing to help you figure out what you are looking for and what you might want to check out, too!

From nostalgia, old favorites or new groups, if you want to hear them on vinyl, this store is for you! We stopped in here after dinner walking around downtown Gainesville and were "wow"ed with the selection and quantity in this fairly small store. We purchased a couple of albums, new and old, and the sound is great! Definitely worth a duck in if you will be in the area.

New records lining the walls everywhere you look - seriously. This place has more new records than shops I've seen twice its size. Current artists, classic re-issues, and a selection that made my wallet hurt in the best way possible. There are DVDs in the back (on sale 3 for price of 2) and a decent selection of CDs, but the vinyl selection is simply amazing.

This is what I call the "new" or current breed of record store, which stocks only new vinyl (current releases as well as resissues). It's not as fun to zoom through as say, a place with a killer selection of used stuff, but it's worth the trip nonetheless. Best things about the store was the huge wall of releases where the owner curated what is probably their favorite records. And the staff (owner?) was super-friendly, in a very sincere way (and not in the I'm-a-weirdo-who-works-in-a-record-store-kind-of-way.) Glad I dropped in.

I really enjoyed coming across this record store. It's located next door to Starbucks and a few steps from the Hampton Inn (where I stayed last weekend). The store is everything you might expect from an independent shop / small business; their hours are quirky, their inventory has all kinds of unexpected gems, and the friendly, helpful staff knows the stock very well. I will definitely visit again the next time I am in Gainesville.

Gainesville has a great history with the punk/ska scene, and those happen to be two of my favorite music genres. Naturally, I figured as an out-of-towner, it would be impossible to go wrong with ANY record store in this town. I assumed wrong. Unless you're looking for The Decemberists or Belle And Sebastian records, don't bother with this place. They have a few of the big name indie records and not much else (in terms of vinyl.) It literally blew my mind that they didn't have a single record by Hot Water Music of Less Than Jake seeing as how these types of bands put this city on the map. So disappointed. They had used cds and dvds too. But I have no use for those. In regards to their vinyl selection, it is seriously lacking.

Words can't describe my love of this place. The owner is one of the nicest dudes in the world, and he is never without an amazing recommendation. Just stop in and check it out. You'll be smitten.

I visit this record store regularly. They have a wide variety of CDs, LPs, and even DVDs. I think the shop has decided to focus more on their vinyl offerings, which are extensive. All of the old vinyl is in really good condition; you can tell they really take care of their merchandise. As far as new vinyl goes, they have a wide variety of genres from blues to post-punk. The new vinyl, too, is well taken care of. I'd much rather purchase a record here than order it online where the shipping process could damage a record. I love this place. I've only bought one record here, but had great conversations with the staff. Very friendly and not pretentious (like in High Fidelity). I'll definitely be back when I have a working record player again.

When I moved to Gainesville from Portland Oregon I was sure I would be missing out on a good local source of vinyl. My wife and I were excited to find Hear Again and they even have a great selection of Delta Blues. I picked up a used copy of Elmore James and it sounds great. The owner was really chill and answered all my questions and was really helpful.
