Best Downtown Restaurants in Houston | Eater Houston

"This Market Square-area gem is known for serving American comfort fare in its stylish digs. Weekday happy hour, held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., is a major draw, with $10 cocktails and $8 appetizers, such as deviled eggs with bacon jam and cheesesteak egg rolls. Lunch and dinner offer a robust menu of comforting dishes, such as Shiner Bock-braised short rib served with caramelized onion and bacon Brussels sprouts, as well as more inventive bites, like pistachio-crusted scallops. Weekend brunch, though, is a true treat, featuring steak and eggs served with chimichurri, a potato hash, and a crème brûlée French toast. Insider tip: If you’re attending an event at the Toyota Center, this is a short walk away and a perfect place to pregame before concerts." - Marcy de Luna

We made reservations for mothers day and everything was outstanding during our visit. The food was delicious and came out timely. Our server was attentive and friendly. We had the beef short rib plate and it was so tender. Just perfect. We also tried the scallops plate that was also perfect 👌 for dessert we had the bread pudding and it did not disappoint 😋 The manager Mr. William came to check on us to make sure all was well and it definitely added a nice touch to our dinner. We will definitely go back!

On a late Friday night, we stopped into Hearsay for a quick bite and a final drink. The staff was all very friendly and we received our food fast after ordering. It was very relaxed for a Friday, which was quite a nice change of pace from the other bars in the area. The atmosphere is always great at all Hearsay locations, I'd recommend stopping in for at least a drink!

The building was absolutely beautiful! There’s a bar on the inside, high ceilings, great lighting, and some of the seating has beautiful greenery on the walls (makes for great photos)! We initially sat inside then decided to eat outside as it was a nice day. Off of the beauty alone, I would highly recommend this place, but the food and service followed suit! Our server was absolutely amazing, super sweet, fun, and knowledgeable of the menu! She was the one who offered us to try their pineapple mimosas, which were delicious! We also tried the deviled eggs and the cheesesteak egg rolls with a sweet chili sauce, they were both great, but I loved the egg rolls! For my entree, I tried the hearsay fried chicken and waffles, and I can honestly say I’m not a big fried chicken person, but this was absolutely THE BEST fried chicken I’ve ever had! It was was cooked and seasoned to perfection, extremely flavorful, down to the bone. The waffle was cooked to the perfection and fluffy! I would go back just for the chicken, but everything was perfect! 10/10 highly recommend!!!!!!

Google
So glad we discovered this unique restaurant in one of the oldest buildings in Houston. Ate poblano soup for the first time. Delicious! But then so was all the food. The service was friendly and efficient. Great margarita too. Thanks for both go to Rogelio (in photo). Wish we didn't live so far away (in Scotland) so a return visit would.be possible!

Everyone was very friendly. The music wasn’t too loud. The food and drinks were delicious. Everything arrived in a decent amount of time. The decor is beautiful. The manager made sure we were happy with everything. We will definitely be back.

We ended up at Hearsay after hearing good things and wanting to indulge in something a little elevated. When we arrived, we were told a reservation was required to be seated on the weekends, even though the whole downstairs was empty. The hostess, in that same sentence, said she could still get us seated. Our server was very attentive, soft-spoken, respectful, knowledgeable about the menu, and overall, provided the expected type of service for the beautiful atmosphere. We ordered the Southwest Eggrolls, the Redfish with green beans, and their award-winning gumbo. Let’s start with the gumbo. My partner who’s a proud grandma’s boy and usually eats every bite, whether he likes it or not couldn’t finish his bowl. That told me all I needed to know, so I tried it myself. The roux was solid, but the flavor was overwhelmed by what tasted like liquid smoke. Not the soulful charred edge that makes gumbo sing, but a sharp, borderline burnt taste that felt more chemical than culinary. And the sausage and chicken were chopped so finely, I had to ask: Is it still gumbo if you need my bifocals to find the meat? The redfish was cooked well but needed salt. It didn’t have a wow factor. The green beans were fresh, but again, there was no standout moment. And the Southwest Eggrolls? Here’s where I’ll be honest: in a place requiring reservations and serving drinks in a chic, moody atmosphere, I shouldn’t be left wondering if my appetizer came from a deep freezer. Class was promised, and class should show up in every bite. These were okay, but they felt out of place. Now, I'm not writing this to slam the place. I’ve worked with chefs, I own(ed) restaurants, and managed kitchens. I know kitchen staff and recipes change, and not every dish is going to hit the spot every time. I just share what we experienced at that moment, and I try to always leave the door open to come back and be surprised, in the good way. I want them to win. And I’ll gladly update this review if things are better next time we visit that area. #HayiaSophia #HayiaSophiaFaves

Absolutely perfect location near Levy Park! The food was absolutely amazing. Everything we ordered from the redfish tacos to the chicken tenders for the kids was 10/10! When we are back in Houston we will come back such a must try place!

Yelp
Restaurant weeks! Calamari starter was excellent, egg roll was insubstantial. blackened redfish excellent, creme brule world class. Service excellent, small historic building, tight seating. Good overall feel, but noisy. 5 stars for the food. I gave 4 stars to a clearly inferior restaurant yesterday.
google avatar

Yelp
I hate to write a less than 5 star review but my experience at Heresay Market Square was disappointing. The egg roll appetizer came out 10 minutes before the drinks, so we sent it away. It was hot and tasty when it was returned to us, but it was an agonizing long wait after the drinks arrived. The filet was ordered medium rare and arrived medium well with cold mashed potatoes. The server never returned to check so we ate it. Nicely seasoned just cooked all wrong. Upon checking out we let the server know he might mention to the kitchen that the steak was over cooked. His complacency was a bit of a shock. He clearly couldn't have cared less. The restaurant was nearly empty, the floor was dirty, even the front door looks worn out. I can't speak to any other Heresay location but I've always loved this one, until now.

Yelp
Hearsay is one of my favorite places to eat. They have the best gumbo in the restaurant business. This location is one of my favorites. We were meeting a huge group of family and my uncle needs double knee surgery so I asked the manager if we could have the table down stairs. She took care of us, even though it was already taken. Thank you for that! Food: gumbo is top notch. Meatballs are great. Eggs rolls are good. So are he deviled eggs and buffalo shrimp. Everything is made fresh to order. We really enjoy the food here and will continue to try new things off their menu.

Yelp
Stopped in because they had bread pudding and my friend was really wanting some. We were seated very quickly as walk ins. Our waitress was really nice and accommodating. My friend had an allergy and she was very attentive to help her figure out the menu. My drinks were pretty refreshing and my shrimp was really good. Nice atmosphere and music.

Yelp
Visited this place for restaurants week. It's a hidden gem in downtime. There is a bar when you walkin to the right and the seating with booth options along the wall. I ordered calamari as my first dish, the snapper as my main course and bread pudding as my dessert. Everything was really good. The appetizer was kind of cold but tasted good none the less. The snapper was good and plated on top of brocollini. The service was kind of slow and our waitress was forgetful. We often had to flag some else down because we were waiting for her to come back. Any who I would try this place again maybe for brunch.

Yelp
We came here for restaurant week and had brunch. The dishes were meh. Only the soup and salad was worth remembering. They were really good and I enjoyed the cucumber noodle like texture on my salad. The main dishes ... could do better... but they can give you your fix of hash and Benedict's. Just... not something I'll come out here for. The decor of this place is really amazing. I just enjoyed looking around inside the restaurant. Also, clean table and chairs. Our waitress was really sweet and we enjoyed having her. We talked a bit about parking, and like her, we also had to pay for parking. Most of the staff here seem to do street parking but we parked at the theater district garage and walked about 8 mins to this place. We did an all day parking at the garage for $20. There's also a small parking lot on the same block but you have to pay for that too. The open lots near here pay by QR code. The garage can be by card or cash.

Yelp
What a cute spot! My friend invited me here for dinner and drinks on a Friday evening. I really love the ambiance inside of the restaurant dark, elegant, and industrial. We had reservations and got to sit on the second floor of the restaurant. We sat right by the stairs so unfortunately we didn't have much of a view. The service was great, we ordered two manhattans made the way she recommended and we loved the drink. I definitely appreciate a place that can make an authentic cocktail vs just a drink. Dinner was nice I wasn't blown away but it wasn't bad either. I had the braised short rib with mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts and my friend had the chicken. The food was good our fave was the shrimp and calamari. I would definitely come back for drinks at the bar but the food was nothing to write home about. I definitely liked the dark intimate vibe of the restaurant seems like a great after work drinks spot.

Yelp
Chicken and waffle for brunch! Excellent fried chicken (flavor and crispiness), and the waffle tasted great with the maple syrup. Very filling portion size (thick waffle and four pieces of fried chicken). Looking forward to getting it again!

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick meal before heading to a concert. The seating is limited and you'll most likely need a reservation for a busier night. I got the Tuscan chicken pasta. It was good but a bit bland. My friend got the crispy chicken sandwich with fries which was tasty and a good portion. It was enjoyable but I would probably not come back. I noticed one of the servers bare handed grabbing from the cocktail toppings after doing various tasks.

Yelp
Definitely get a reservation ahead of time or you will have a wait. Luckily, we did have one but saw the sad faces of those who didn't. Fantastic ambience though a bit cramped. We had the jalapeño bacon deviled eggs for a starter. Excellent. My wife was craving a cheeseburger. The bun was delicious, like a Hawaiian king roll. I had the bacon wrapped shrimp and grits. Very tasty though I think they should use larger shrimp. Service from Mason was excellent. Bread pudding and crème brûlée were both very good. Reasonably priced too which is surprising for downtown.

Yelp
This place was a pleasant surprise. I was in charge of picking the brunch spot. Well, my friends are picky eaters and they eat meat and I'm back to being Flexitarian (mostly vegetarian with occasional seafood here and there). Good Ole YELP came through. This place had low reviews here but the menu was just what we needed. Our waiter, Bailey was great. He checked on us and engaged in our shenanigans here and there while keeping it professional. There is both an upstairs and downstairs area. The way my life is setup, I have a strong dislike for stairs so I wasn't able to get a view of upstairs area. The set up downstairs is bar on one side, high tables in the middle and low tables on the other side. The tables are close when sitting as you will be able to stretch out and touch your neighbor, stranger or not. The noise level was fine. Cheers to free parking on Sundays! We only had appetizers and sides and we got full really quickly. Espresso Martini was my favorite. I got so excited to have it that I forgot to capture the look. We all said we would be returning to try the entrees. The Spinach, Jalapeño, and Artichoke Dip was a favorite, Buffalo Shrimp was the least favorite.
google avatar

Sean A.

Yelp
Upon a recommendation from the concierge, we visited hearsay. We ordered deviled eggs and meatballs to start. Absolutely phenomenal and recommend! Entres were great as well. I chose the scallops while others chose fish. Both were delicious. Our server was polite and provided great recommendations for us. The restaurant was busy and quiet enough you could hear others at the table which was nice. I'd definitely return.

Yelp
We had a nice dinner here for Valentine's Day. J. made a reservation for us and I was excited to check it out after hearing good things about Hearsay. We were promptly seated upon arriving and our servers were very kind and attentive. The restaurant has an interesting aesthetic with a beautiful chandelier giving a fine dining feel, but also with a more relaxed atmosphere from the bar and sports TV. We had a booth seat and were excited to look through the menu before deciding on the Valentine's Day special. We opted for the charcuterie platter as our appetizer, the pistachio crusted lamb chops and surf and turf for our entrees, and the love bomb for dessert. Our appetizer was a big hit, we loved the cheese and meats which went wonderfully with the warm, crispy pretzel. I haven't had a pretzel on a charcuterie board before but I'm a fan now! For our entrees, we were underwhelmed by the filet mignon, but the grilled shrimp, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and lamb chops were a big hit. The dessert was lovely and we enjoyed watching our server hit the shell to reveal the yummy ice cream underneath! This was a nice Valentine's Day special and experience at a romantic restaurant in downtown Houston. I liked that the special included a bottle of wine - we opted for the Cabernet which we thoroughly enjoyed. All things considered, we were a bit disappointed by how the filet mignon turned out but we loved the rest of our meal. I would consider coming back here, likely for a Houston Restaurant Weeks meal in the future!

Yelp
This was a great brunch. We did not have a reservation, but received quick, friendly service at the bar. I have not been to downtown Houston in a while, but this was a great "old school" atmosphere, combined with modern music, and a New American Vibe. We very much enjoyed the experience, and would recommend to our friends.
google avatar

Humairaa A.

Yelp
The food was really fresh and delicious. We tried the calamari and shrimp, wagyu melt, seared salmon , and Mac and cheese. The mocktails were a little more one note but still refreshing, I tried the strawberry lime one. Our waiter was kind and attentive. If you come at dinner time, you get a candle lit beside you. The entire ambience of the establishment screams romance with its dim lighting, crystal chandelier and accent walls throughout. There's parking across the street. I look forward to coming back and trying something new. perfect for a date night.

Yelp
What an elegant but super chic place in downtown Houston. They call it antique chic and the decor really brings that out. Just an amazing vibe there with lovely nooks and architecture. Food was very solid (beef short ribs) but it's really the drinks that make this place stand out. The old fashioned is one of the best I've had and you can see it slowly bring dripped into a fermentation process behind the bar. Very cool experience that I'd recommend if you're in downtown Houston.

Yelp
Came here for brunch on NYE! We started off with the Buffalo fried shrimp which provided a great kickstart to the meal. We also got the chicken & waffles which were a solid 8.5/10; chicken was well seasoned, crispy, and fresh out the pan & waffles were warm and fluffy. Lastly we got the short rib hash, which was also well-seasoned & tender in a rich salsa base. All of this was paired with some delicious coffee. The vibes here are always on point - hostess at the door was personable & nice, waiter was funny, they even have a DJ on special occasions. Can't wait to come back for another meal!
google avatar

Yelp
Highly recommended Location - steps away from nearby hotels and a short walk from the Theatre district Ambiance - handsome old brownstone with tall ceilings in shoebox proportions, hip but not trendy vibe, not stuffy or wanna be chic; not many tables or banquets, so make a reservation at busy times; not too loud either (a rarity in Houston) Service - friendly, unpretentious; a good mix of attentive but not bothersome without mandatory recitations of specials or other schtick; decent solo seating at the bar Food - excellent; cocktails are solid, not overpriced; deviled eggs were divine - a perfect starter for 2; braised rib was delicious and very tender with great sides on the plate; chicken milanese looked immense

Yelp
I placed a pick up order, so this review is solely based on the food. I ordered the cheesesteak eggrolls and the s'mores cake. Living pretty close to Philly I eat a lot of cheesesteaks and cheesesteak eggrolls. The idea to put bell peppers in any variation of cheesesteak is kind of weird to me. The peppers were overwhelming and the meat was a little dry. I would've preferred cherry peppers. The eggrolls were perfectly crispy though. The cake was also just OK. I loved the toasted marshmallows, but it could've used more chocolate. The graham crackers seemed like an afterthought. They didn't add much for taste, but they provided some texture. The creativity is there, but the execution was just average.

Jhordy M.

Yelp
Andres provided an excelente service, made me feel welcomed since the moment I walked in to my last cocktail, I just moved i. To downtown, so it's nice to find nice bar to get drink and meet friends with friendly bartenders!

Yelp
It's been years since I've eaten at Hearsay Market Square. My friend and I were on the hunt for dinner and realized we were close to Hearsay. One thing I remembered from previous visits was that the tables fill up fast. I wasn't sure what to expect on a Sunday, but we arrived around 5:30 pm and they only had bar seats available. Not long after we sat down, the bar seats were full. Make a reservation or get there early. Frances was our bartender/server and she was really sweet. She made us a gin cocktail that she created and is not on the menu. She doesn't have a name for it, but she was adamant that we would like it and she was right! I really enjoyed it! It had a citrus profile. For my second drink, I had the El Pepino. I subbed vodka in place of the tequila and it was quite good. As I browsed the menu, I realized that they no longer have the beer battered asparagus on the menu. That appetizer was so yummy, but I appreciate the fact that they update the menu. I spotted deviled eggs and immediately ordered them. Unfortunately, these fell a little flat for me. They weren't bad, but they didn't wow me. For my entrée, I ordered the beef short rib. It came with cheddar grits and bacon Brussels sprouts. This dish was fantastic! The beef was tender, and the sides were so flavorful! I loved it. The portion was a great size and I ate all of my food. Needless to say, I left full and satisfied.

Yelp
Came for Houston Restaurant Week (HRW 2023). It's Downtown so you already know how the parking situation is going to be. But once you get over the parking lol, the space is very cute. The hostess greeted us and took upstairs to be seated. Again, it's Downtown so the buildings are narrow and built up. So the tables are very close together so the servers has to squeeze in between tables. I wasn't a fan of the set up because it was very tight to sit. Overall, the server was good. Now the food? Very good!!! I got the egg rolls which was very yummy and hot. My sister for the calamari and shrimp, she said it was spicy for her but it was perfect For me (spicy is subjective). My mom enjoyed her salad. The shrimp and grits was great!!! Not enough grits in my opinion but enough to fill me up. My sister got the lamb chops, mom got the chicken. Everybody enjoyed their food! For drinks, we got the Whitney and Pink Delicious; I preferred the Whitney. But I'll definitely will be back.

Yelp
Came here with my best buddy after walking around trying to find something to eat, in the area. This was my first time here. Its not a large space. They do have some outdoor dinning. They informed us at the hostess stand that the dining area was already reserved for guests, but we could sit at the bar and order food there. So we did. We were hungry! Drinks- our bartender and server Frances was great. She created a yummy drink for us with gin and elderflower. It tasted like a French 75. She claimed it was better than the Pink Delicious. She was right! My first drink was so yummy. The Pink Delicious was fine. Food- we split the deviled eggs for appetizers. It was fine. For my entree, I ordered the Wagyu Patty melt. It's comes with Jalapeños on it, so fair warning. It was pretty tasty! The Parmeasan fries were good, too. Service- was really great. Frances took good care of us. Was helpful, and provided good service. The place has good reviews, I see why.

Yelp
Love the ambience and food was out of the world. Great taste. Dessert was heaven. Shrimp buffalo was yum. Chicken grilled entree was yummy too. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This is Houston's restaurant week and I went to visit on the oldest restaurants in the city of Houston, Texas. The service was very nice.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this restaurant!! The parking around is a little tricky and is expensive. The outside of the restaurant is cute and the ambiance inside is amazing. There are a few small tables outside but the real beauty is inside with its extravagant chandelier. The DJ upstairs was also a nice surprise. We loved his music and it totally added to our experience. The food was absolutely amazing!!!! My group loved everything we got. Seriously, no complaints. The drinks were good but I think their drink menu could be a bit bigger with more options. Our service was not amazing but nothing bad to say. I liked that the servers had hand held paying devices. My group was 5 people and they automatically added gratuity, so be prepared (they don't tell you). I can't wait to go back and get more of their food!!!

Yelp
Poblano soup: soo good! I would definitely recommend trying. It's got so much flavor! Red fish tacos: I got this with a side of corn delicious as well. Light and refreshing. They might look small but it's very filling Meatballs: my husband enjoyed this as well Kung pao chicken: for us it was good but heavily battered. Service: the server we had was very nice and attentive to everyone around us The interior is spacious and clean Will definitely be coming back here again. Great place for a chill brunch

Yelp
Sometimes it all works out how it's supposed to. Was biking downtown in Houston on a business trip and stopped at a park to take a break and started looking for a place to have lunch. Alas I was literary across the street from Hearsay! Scanned the menu over a cold local IPA and finally settled on the tuna tacos. Absolutely incredible choice. 4 wonderful crunchy shells that somehow kept their integrity, filled with fresh tuna and slaw, topped with avocado, in a word, yum!!! Side of warm corn with some sort of sauce on it paired well for some reason. Ate at the bar so tender was attentive and food came out quick. Awesome interior with winding staircase gave off a pleasant vibe. Highly recommend, can't wait to go back to try more of the menu.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Small restaurant, reservations definitely recommended. Luckily was able to walk in and sit at the bar for 2 of us. I was between the pasta primavera and the Kung Pao Salmon. I went with the salmon and it was delicious. Highly recommend it.
google avatar

Yelp
Came for resturant week and I was impressed. We had reservations and were sat right away. We had had the three course meal and all of our food was great. The redfish was amazing!!! The calamari and shrimp were good too. The bacon wrapped shrimp and grits were good. I did not like the eggrolls but my mom did. The customer service was blahhh but the food made up for it.
google avatar

Yelp
I went here for a date night and the inside was romantic and cozy. Did lighting and candle lit tables really set the mood. The steak I ordered was cooked medium and it was full of flavor and juicy. The avocado salad was beautifully plated and eye catching. The burger was juicy and well put together. Our waitress was attentive and helped us choose drinks. We were seated as soon as we walked in with no wait time. My new date night spot

Yelp
Came in for happy hour with a few girlfriends. When we first arrived we requested a table, to which the hostess informed us there were no tables available until 7pm and had to sit at the bar. I found this odd as we left before 7 and there were tables open the duration of our visit. Our server was very nice and engaging, and was able to honor our request to substitute the spirit used in our cocktails at no additional charge. The food was good, it could have been warmer but was still flavorful. The short ribs tacos are always a hit. The cheesesteak eggrolls were satisfying, the sweet chili sauce they served with it I could literally drink! Drinks: The jalapeño marg was a great balance and my personal favorite. The pink delicious was VERY spirit forward, but if you want a strong drink it is a top pick. The Whitney was refreshing with the blackberry notes. I was a bit disappointed in this location presentation wise. One did not have a garnish. The sauce served with the tacos was also different from my previous experience. I still feel it is a good place to try out!

Ronny R.

Yelp
Celebrated a birthday and enjoyed the experience. Walking in, the vibes of the location was easy going and laid back, we were sat at the balcony and could overlook the entire restaurant (Beautiful). Waitress was attentive and managed the table well, she even brought out a dessert for the Birthday Girl. Food was GOOD althought some of the sides were cold. Menu on the smaller side and price attuned to that specific area. Overall, good food, great company!

Yelp
Se ve delicioso y sabe igual que textura de waffles y el pollo riquísimo vengan aquí a comer lo recomiendo ampliamente buen servicio y rapidez el dessert también está delicioso hearsay bread pudding con nieve encima y caramelo mmmm

Yelp
This place is amazing from atmosphere and ambiance to food. Staff is always very friendly. I've yet to have anything I have not liked in food however I know space is limited but my only complaint is tables are way to close together. You can't talk without people on both sides hearing your conversation. If your on your phone you can see whatever is on the phone you're that close

Yelp
Always love coming here. The food is always great & the service is too. Ambiance is nice too.

Yelp
This place has so much potential and the food was decent. It doesn't wow you but it wasn't bad I had the burger it was said to be Ragu but it was just very tasty decent shower on there fresh vegetables I had a tomato and lettuce and onions a nice roll but it just doesn't knock your socks off but it is very very well prepared and the presentation was nice. I'm not saying not to try this place but I don't want to overhyped it for you to get there and to be like this was an ordinary type of joint the bar is gorgeous. Staff was super friendly and it was a decent meal.

Yelp
Hearsay is one of those spots that I absolutely love the inside of. The exposed brick is beautiful. The stairs to upstairs are a tad steep when feeling the heels. But overall the feel of the restaurant being in an old building is my favorite part. Overall the food for me isn't anything that special. The drinks are more where they excel I feel. The happy hour specials aren't bad. The servers are typically friendly.

Yelp
EDIT FROM POST BELOW: The general manager called after reading the post I made yesterday, understood our situation and apologized for the bad experience we had. He assures us that our next visit will be enjoyable. That meant a lot to us and look forward to another visit. I am unable to write a review of the food because we were never served. My wife and I had reservations and we were seated next to a large 15+ party on the 2nd floor. There was not enough space in the 2nd floor area to accommodate anyone else except the larger party. The table they tried to squeeze us into was very uncomfortable. We pushed it as far as we could but my wife was pinned in and could barely move. Every time a waiter or a guest from the other party tried to squeeze between the back of my chair and the other guest's chairs, I would get bumped. I was pressed against the table as tightly as I could be. The people in the other party made no effort to relief the situation and the Hearsay staff made no effort to ask them to adjust. We asked to be moved but since all tables were reserved, they would not seat us. They offered us a place at the bar but it was too crowded. Appallingly unprofessional and terrible service by the staff. I was under the mistaken assumption that Hearsay was a classy joint.

Yelp
Good food. I like the ambiance of the small restaurant. Our server was as attentive as he could be. He was the only server. The manager helped here and there. She didn't seem to want to though.

Yelp
Good food. Good service. Good ambiance. Good espresso martini. Nothing about this place was exceptional, but it was good, and I'd come here again. Also, this is a good place for large groups where you need to split the bill separately because the server has a credit card reader that he or she walks around with after the meal is over, as opposed to giving one single receipt.

Yelp
The food was good! The steak wraps were super good. The service was pretty decent as well we had a nice waiter. The ambiance was on point for a first date! Definitely recommend. The ribeye was good too. A nice size!

Yelp
Service was great and the steak was delicious. Added mushroom sauce and switched the green beans for the brussel sprouts, definitely the right move.

Yelp
The food was bomb, I ate my steak all up. The flavor was great and it was cooked to perfection. The ambiance was just what we were looking for. It's dark inside which was the theme of the party. The service was pretty good, they were busy but kept our party well attended to. Overall the only problem was parking but that's anywhere in downtown.

Yelp
My wife and I were in town for the weekend and she recommended we drop in for a visit. She had great things to say about her previous visit several months ago. Well, this visit was just ok. We ordered the cheesesteak egg rolls, pancakes and bacon, and the chicken fried ribeye. The egg rolls were the highlight of the meal. They had a crispy exterior and beefy interior. They also paired well with the sweet chili sauce. The pancakes, however, tasted like they had been frozen. They weren't memorable. The bacon was cold and had to be sent back to be reheated. The crime was definitely the fried ribeye. I don't even know why I would order fried ribeye. I could smack myself. One, it wasn't a ribeye. At least I've never seen a ribeye look like this. I agree with another reviewer that it's fajita meat. It just wasn't good. The texture was mushy, it had a lot of fat/gristle, and the breading had an ingredient that was off putting. I think it was cumin or chili powder. Service was ok, nothing notable. Our server appeared to be new. When we asked for recommendations, she said everything on the menu was good. Red flag. She also wasn't very attentive. On a positive note, it was a Saturday morning and we were seated quickly. The ambiance was pleasant. I really liked the use of wood and brick, and the banquette seating. I'd be willing to give them another try.

Yelp
Date night or just going out on a Monday...there's always a great reason to explore H-town! This place is in the heart of downtown next to lots of things to do, eat and drink! I love this incredible building coupled with insanely nice decor! The bar is beautiful and friendly bartenders! Come check them out weekday or weekend! ChowChow Time!!

Yelp
Arrived in Houston in order to go to Galveston for a cruise and looked this place up and decided to try...I'm glad that I did. Fantastic service and food! Great vegan/plant-based options.

Yelp
This is a must try. Everyone from the manager to the waitstaff and bartenders were amazing. I ordered my dish based off a yelp photo and it was one of the best meals I ever had. Their signature house cocktails are amazing and watching the bartenders is a show in itself. Will definitely be back!!

Yelp
On Sat or Sun morning we regularly bike down to Hearsay. Sunday we had Madeline as our server and she was fabulous. The meal was also fantastic!! But most of all, we had an older uncle with us who had taken a bit of a tumble and was bloody from a head cut. Jennifer the manager who we also see regularly, opened the door about 10 minutes before their opening time to let our uncle into the restroom to clean up. She also came to check on us and specifically our uncle as we ate our meal and sat visiting. Every time we go, the service is so personable and efficient! We love The Hearsay!
